Patch note confusion

The terror trait is a trait that makes fear deal damage. I get how you could read it the way you have implied, but logic states they just buffed the fear damage…. Consequently I have no idea why they would do this, as it is already the most powerful condition the game…. pre-buff.

Burn is still the most powerful duration-stacking condition in the game in terms of both base damage and after the {condition coefficient*condition damage} is added.

Base Damage @ 80:

  • Burn: 328
  • Fear: 120

Coefficient Damage @ 80:

  • Burn: .25 * Condition Damage stat
  • Fear: .15 * Condition Damage stat

I’ll do some testing in-game now to see if the 50% is applied pre or post coefficient calculation.

Either way it’s still going to tick less than a burn since burn’s base is 273% greater than fear @ 80 and Burn’s coefficient applies 66% more condition damage than Terror does to Fear, pre-patch. A 50% flat damage increase shouldn’t dethrone burn.

I know it’d be comparing apples to oranges, but Confusion damage in PvE/WvW is still the king of all conditions. Dealing over 8k dmg per tick on a 25-stack w/ 1350 condition damage.

That formula for terror that you got from the wiki isn’t correct. Its 30% malice + 364 base.

After testing, my fear build gained a fairly sizeable dmg increase from Terror.

I still don’t notice Gluttony, at all.

Re animator certainly lasts longer, but still doesn’t add much.

SotL is a nice buff that causes me to be able to swap to SW prior to the fights — therefore not starting most fights with this on cooldown.

CPC is confirmed to be awful, rather than speculation that the timers were just off. I love that I can weaken myself for twice as long as those I hit…

Disappointing, per usual. Though, I already felt Terror was nice — should be very interesting how that buff works.

Necro vs elite-thief in WvW. How?

  • Master of terror (2x fear duration, Reaper protection, damage on fear, was working on nightmare rune) -> average

I presume the “was working on Nightmare rune” as just a way of making it a little easier to get +100% fear condition duration, and you utilized a different rune set (Necromancer, etc) in the meantime — as you did say 2x fear duration.

I’ve found that double duration fears with Terror often allowed me to be the aggressor, and have been quite successful with this build.

Peoples in this thread seems to fight really bad thief.

Those thief are not a problem, since they mostly die in 3 hit.

I full mark rotation on a good thief, won’t kill them.

A condimancer vs a P/D Thief also won’t kill them, as when they are invis we can only rely on mark to hit them (auto attack with staff yeah sure? or scepter #2 and #5, if you are really lucky.

They can remove condition as fast as necromancer (they remove condition each 3 sec in stealth, remove bleed and poison on heal).

I fought a good P/D thief not long ago when I was condimancer specced. I’m not bad at all in pvp, as I rarely go down to anyone in a 1vs1. But I just couldn’t burst down this thief. He was kinda outhealing my conditions. Sure he didn’t hit hard ether, but he was having the best out of me.

I’m a condimancer with 3 conditions removal, I shouldn’t be afraid of cond thief, but he still got me.

Just curious what your spec was — I have mentioned it in other threads, but I have found much greater success vs. all specs of thieves once I went to a terror-condition build. That extra damage and CC (and a bit more LF/Prot) really is fairly significant.

Necro WvW Build Help

in Necromancer

alanis.6094

Oh, true.
But still, you can affect only 5 players with AoE. I can see why it’s nice to have in sPvP, but in WvW even if you fear 5, there are always 20 more.

As for you example, I prefer to have 3 seconds of Stability every 10 seconds with Foot in the Grave trait. Or just use plague form, 20 seconds of stability and zerg having problems targeting or even see me.

Well, one would hope you don’t get yourself into a situation where you have 20 people all attacking you. Even if you have a large group on the other side, getting 3-4 guys out of your face helps.

As for Stability, I never really cared much for that in WvW. It doesn’t protect against Immobilization, Chilled, or Crippled — three things that cause me much more trouble with staying alive if I get out of position or pulled. I’d personally rather have the condition removal on DS than Stability.

As for Plague form, it and RP are not mutually exclusive.

Reaper’s Protection is bad for survivability in my opinion. 1 sec of fear won’t save you from zerg, especially only once in 90 seconds.

RP is 2s with 0 condition duration. With my build, my RP is 4+ seconds and does 800-900 damage per second.

It certainly is better for smaller engagements, but is quite useful overall in WvW, as there will be times where you get charged at the front lines, or stunned/knocked down while trying to get back into a keep/tower.

Necro vs elite-thief in WvW. How?

@Alanis

2- I have all exotic thoughtness gear, and DD thief can still hit me for 8k + other hit from the combo. Thoughtness is overrated, damage scall better. And P/D thief don’t care about thougtness.

It certainly happens sometimes, but if you manage to let it happen outside of the opening attack that you didn’t see coming, then that is primarily user error. Again, being in WvW means you should have a decent amount of LF at all times.

P/d might not care about toughness, but they certainly aren’t fans of consume conditions and PM.

3- We might fight different thief, but mine usually never use any hard CC? My Reaper protection dooesn’t trigger from thief.

Steal>Fear is pretty common against thief’s I run across. I also have run into several sword thieves in recent weeks.

Escaping a thief is no easy task. Elite Thief, like the OP mentionned, won’t be trolled by Spectral Wall.

You won’t outspeed a thief, they have the second best mobility in the game.

As soon as they switch to shortbow, they can outrun any necro build in this game. “Elite” thief won’t let you escape alive. You better fight and hope for a mistake and kill them.

There are very few places in WvW where, if you get a full-duration SW-recall off, you won’t be able to get to a ‘safe’ location (keep, camp, allies).

Necro vs elite-thief in WvW. How?

2 questions:

1) How to kill a thief?

Thieves can pretty much invisible 24/7 and hit your for 4k-8k a hit. You are dead within 20 seconds, so you must kill the thief by then.

And assume the thief will run away at 25% health.

Combination of:

1- Just plain being better than him, usually evident in the timing of your dodges
2- Have better defensive stats — you shouldn’t take many 8k hits, if any
3- Reapers Protection is quite strong
4- In WvW, you should have the benefit of a good amount of LF to start the fight. Use it wisely.

2) How to escape from a thief?

Let’s say things are going very bad, and you are down to 50% health. You want to run away. How would you do it?

Use SW, or kite until SW comes up. Use SW wisely (utilizing LOS, mobs, height, etc) then teleport back and head the opposite direction.

I can say we are working on updating the UI for DS so that you can actually see your health bar, boons, conditions, etc. We think this is the first step for DS.

so, we’re getting some aestethic improvements in some time in the future, while rangers and even thiefs are getting buffs in damage this patch… sounds fair enough for me.

Nowhere in his post did he say that his comment regarding DS was all-inclusive of what was being worked on for this profession.

grats on missing the point. the discussion was about the meta and use of necro which has a lot to do with rez signet which they touch on in the q and a and basically say there are certain rez abilities that they feel are too strong and make them a must have. but hey thanks for playing and acting like you know what’s going on.

What’s difficult for you? If it was just about the res like you’ve been trying to say for fifteen posts, people would bring rangers instead. They have a better res.

Get off the forums and learn to play the damn game.

but they don’t. necros weren’t used on ant teams until they changed the rez timer and people realized how valuable rez signet was to the first fight. if you win the first fight you snowball and only lose if you screw up royally, or so I’ve been told, as I don’t have any actual experience whatsoever to speak of.

Unpossible!

Though, to be honest, I don’t think SoL should be on par with the ‘Adventurer’ profession signets — speed is supposed to be their niche, not ours.

Frankly, there are so many other “easy” issues (ie. I do not think minion AI isn’t an easy fix for them) that I’d prefer to see fixed — specifically that our ‘minor’ traits are by far the worst of any profession, both in terms of utility, enjoyment, and affect on playstyle. Aside from Last Gasp and Furious Demise, they are rather underwhelming (and the buff to Gluttony, whatever it is, probably will still leave this group underwhelming).

If it was just the res everyone would run 4 rangers and instarevive every 30s, or quickrevive if anyone managed to die in between. Stop blaming the class for your own failures.

And Xom, comments about over inflated egos from you are incredibly ironic.

Its simple Mes has game changing power that wins maps I wont go into theory crafting detail what the mes and other classes bring that wins games because i dont think any of you casuals care about the details in tpvp. I will again say there is a reason Necro is so underplayed in Tpvp and its a low percentage of top teams setup.

If only you hadn’t been quite so absurdly wrong about that, you could almost have looked like you knew what you were talking about. Thanks for not boring us casuals though.

listen to the q and a and otherwise stop posting, if you can’t see the difference between an aoe ranged rez vs a single target rez, well just lol.

Yes, that AoE rez for that vast multitude of times that two enemies die, within 180 range of each other, in a close enough time frame that one of them is not already stomped.

Just…no.

@KirinDave

Thanks for the tips! Been playing a Powermancer fort like 3-4 month, but I still very new to condimancer. I kick most people kitten but P/D are really a pain in the kitten

Will try those tips!

The PM tips, I might waste it too soon. And you use reaper mark right away? or you wai for them to stealth?

Or you keep them to stack DS fear and Reaper mark togheter so they can’t heal when they are getting low hp.

Sometimes I RM ontop of them near the onset, sometimes I just place it under myself. I don’t really have a rhyme or reason, just depends on how the fight is going. If I can get several stacks of bleeds on him, I’ll often try to double-fear him then, in hopes that it gives him less time to clear them.

cleverness?

Wild Bill build is pretty straight forward, and require you to have good movement and not missing your C&D.

I saw how he explained how it was not easy to accomplish, and I still fail to see how it’s more complex then any other build. I tried it for a while and it was actually really boring, tho it was effective.

This thief build is the perfect exemple of the attrition class. This is what a necromancer should do. We are supose to be the attrition classe.

I have condition clear, I’m a necro after all. And even with 3 condition cleaner, a good P/D thief will win most of the time vs me. I have to be timed and dodge their C&D (without any vigor source). But at the same time, I can’t build condition on them because they have so many condition cleaner on that build.

They usually outlast me. Even If I’m cond/vitality/thought heavy geared. I usually can’t stack condition as consistant as them.

P/D thief was a big issue for me for a while, but once I started using a fear/terror build, I destroyed several of them over the weekend. A few things that helped…

-I hope you are saving your PM, and not just blindly using it on-cooldown. I normally wait for 7-8 stacks of bleed prior to using this.

-Despite the condition transfer on dagger off-hand, I much prefer the focus. The life force generation is too good for me to pass up. With that, use FoC every cooldown.

-Don’t life blast at all, but use the fear judiciously. 2s of CC and the extra 1600-1800 damage is pretty nice.

-Reaper’s protection is very strong against a stolen fear.

Note: this is really only good for WvW, as you can’t get the duration needed in sPvP without a lot of compromises.

Condition-mancer vs Big Zergs

in Necromancer

Posted by: alanis.6094

alanis.6094

Any condition class is nearly worthless in large scale pvp. At this point arrow carts are nearly worthless in pvp, and your conditions are no where near as good as an arrow cart.

if they have just two guardians in their group, and those guardians are aoe-sharing their passive heal, they will out heal your damage in the long run, since you are only going to get a half dozen tic’s of damage before something cures it…

and then there’s all the other aoe healing classes do when they self heal.. engineer turrents.. just forget it, you don’t matter in zerg battles

also, just think of all the classes that a condition-mancer is a free kill for. elementalists, theifs, engineers, some warriors…

now think about it, any zerg is going to have lots of those classes….

Honestly, mark of blood spamming on the walls in order to pressure archers is all you are really going to be good for.

So get used to manning the trebuchets

A conditionmancer can put out AoE conditions faster than any profession can cure them.

So when those are both on cooldown, you basically just chillax and watch your teammates fight?

if they are both on cooldown it means you are running for your life back to a keep or tower or you overextended yourself and deserve to die.

So the only time you use your Well (I say singular, because you already cited that you used Epidemic, and Spectral Walk) is when SW is available.

What are you actually doing the rest of the time?

Uh no, was just saying that sometimes SW can be beneficial to get in very deep, not just “to the front” but beyond enemy lines to drop a critical well and staff marks then insta port back. Or jump down to the enemy, drop well/staff then port back up to safety.

900 range is plenty to not have to rely on stacking vit/tough or using SW to get off s/d aoes or wells.

Well, maybe 900 range is fine back on T2. I know you guys really didn’t get a chance to stick around T1 too long, but 900 range is laughable with low tough/vit versus the competition here. Pretty much every profession has countless ways to damage you from 900 — let alone the number of pulls and immobilizes that can, and do, happen.

I have 1600 toughness and 23000 HP, and 900 range can get a bit hairy for me.

I run with SW consistently, but I’d rather not wait for it to be available for me to get to 900 range. I’d be bored the other 48/60 seconds.

Okay, so much for perception being accurate.

Reaper’s protection and Fear of Death do NOT share a cooldown.

Just tested in the Mists against the mesmer NPC, both fears went off within 10 seconds of each other. I did not happen to notice if Reaper’s protection sets a 10 second cooldown to the downed state fear, but that would be very minor for me as hopefully I am not going down in 10 seconds of Reaper’s prot. proccing.

So false alarm here… Not sure why it seems like the downed state fear isn’t going off as often, possibly the range is just not far enough.

Thans for taking the time to confirm this.

I sort of question what downed state fear actually gets you. Does anyone have any ideas that don’t involve cliff ledges? With a condition damage build, how hard does damage-on-fear tick for?

It is 30% Malice and 362 base dmg per tick.

I’d still rather take the DS ability cooldown reduction over anything I’d get while downed.

The gw2 wiki says it’s 120 + 0.15c. I guess that’s wrong if you’re saying it’s 362 base. Do we have a formula?

@Rennoko

It would be horrible, as I’m also trying a Fear build for fun and I wanted as many fear source as possible.

But If Reaper Protection and Fear of death share the same CD, it’s useless. I wouldn’t want my Reaper protection to be on CD because my Fear of death was used 90 sec ago.

4 sec fear on CC wasted for a 2 sec fear on downed state.

Try it with your friend please, and come back with result! I will switch to 15% cd reduction on DS if it’s the case.

@Alanis

I don’t think so, tho 1-2 month ago I remember having my downed state fear on CD as soon as I got downed, before even using it. But it didn’t happen since I respected fear, 2 days ago.

Yah, but it is still, IMHO, worth keeping Reapers Protection. I think the shared-cooldown is the 10s cooldown from the downed ability.

FWIW- I use the CD reduction trait, which I think is superior anyway.

“It’s all playstyle though, if you are a small group roamer that just attacks dolyaks, supply camps, and looks for 1v1s all night i guess glass cannon works fine. If you want to be near the front lines and make a difference in some of the larger scale battles, go conditions.”

Is D/F better than D/D?

The major reason people look towards using D/D is aesthetics. They are the two most mismatched weapons you can come up with.

Can’t think of a logical reason that a 4-Well support build wouldn’t get the Well protection talent.

Spite line worth it for condition-mancers ?

in Necromancer

I have never really considered taking staff mastery before. My staff is only up long enough to drop marks, switch to DS for a drain, then swich back to scept. Then again I hate moving in any group larger than 5, and generally like engagements that are small group vs. small group, where I can actually use scept. 1 effectively.

Yah, its just different playstyles between the two of us. When I’m running in smaller groups, I still don’t use the scepter autoattack as much — I have half Carrion gear on my jewelry so my DS skills aren’t that bad so I’m switching between staff, DS, and scepter/offhand.

I just tested this briefly and had a very decisive 1v2 (thief, warrior) — the extra fear time/damage was very noticeable, even with no stacks of corruption. I actually caught the thief with stability/corrupt boon, and that melted him pretty well.

All-in-all, thanks for the knowledge.

Edit: Also, staff mastery gives 32 second Reapers Mark I also got Path of Midnight so that lowers Doom CD as well.

Remember that if you trait that way and you are prec/tough/condition damage, that dropping hemo could mean you lose that last damage tick from the barbed precision proc (1 seconds becomes 2 seconds at 100%). It happens all the time and you will lose out on that damage. Right now I am 0/30/20/0/20, with runes specifically chosen to get me at 100% bleed 100% fear.

Also im curious what you want that is 30 points into the minion tree and worth dropping lingering curses?

I have little interest in speccing to get an extra 125-150 damage from Barbed Precision on 2/3 of my crits — its a bad trait, IMHO. Even with Hemo, I’m not getting close to 100%, especially since I’d want to get the Necro Runes for the extra fear duration.

This is entirely WvW based, where scepter auto-attack frankly gets minimal use, at least for me. For non-scepter autoattack, 36% food buff already puts the gives the three main bleeds: MoB (10s), GD (9s), and EB (13s). I just don’t use the autoattack enough for Lingering Curses — my current build has 30 into Curses and I already skip that trait for Spectral Attunement.

For the death tree — there is zero chance I’m running around in WvW without Staff Mastery or Greater Marks. The last 10 would, obviously, be Reaper’s Protection.

Week of 11/30: SOS vs SBI vs JQ

in WvW

Was a fun match, despite the consistent outmanned buff. There should be legitimate concern that SBI might drop out of T1 after next week, given that DF:UW is coming out. I haven’t recognized any clans from SoS/JQ that played the original, but several from SBI.

What game is DF:UW?

Edit: Nevermind, I found it. It looks horrible. Graphics look like something that came out 6 years ago and the movements are stiff.

Like it or not, I’m just pointing out that a lot of PvP clans that played the original are going to flock back. Luckily, GW2 doesn’t have the sub fee’s so moving back and forth might not be as big of an issue.

Karka Chest Distribution [merged]

I have seen several posts on various sites with people claiming they got the chests and weren’t on. Google searches can be done to find them all. That’s not to say that all of the reports are accurate, I assume some are trolling. The main problem seems to exist for those of us who were trying to participate and couldn’t log in due to server error. We were not on and there is no way to prove why. It would be so easy to claim we tried and not have actually done so. In this situation we might be left in the cold.

Tell them to post here, then Anet would have their user ID to investigate.

But then, of course, they would likely be worried about the Devs investigating and calling them out for lying.

That is quite interesting, can’t wait to get home to check it out myself — gives me a reason to drop points into SR.

The big question that I’d have to decide would be: Hemophilia, Master of Corruption, or Reaper’s Protection. Actually leaning to dropping Hemophilia, as it often feels like overkill. That would give a 0/20/30/0/20 build.

Here you go (and i hope this changes everyones opinion of this trait, because it certainly did mine).

Condition damage with food and crystal and stacks = 1846
Damage from fear = 916 per tick

Condition damage with food and crystal and stacks and BIP up = 2196
Damage from fear = 1021 per tick

So the wiki is wrong, and its actually a stronger debuff damage wise than burning, so I have no idea what formula is used. It seems to get about 46% of your condition damage.

See attached

PS: A fond thanks to the huge sorrows furnace zerg that ran over me while I was happily getting stacks on drakes. I was a huge threat to your drake population by the river.

That is quite interesting, as I tested it quite a while back in Mists (obviously less CD) but it wasn’t near that high. I was either mistaken then, or they ninja-buffed it.

I presume you also get the damage for all enemies hit by our AoE fear?

Edit: I’m mostly interested in this question: This damage you list, that is ‘per-tick’, so if you get 100%+ condition duration, you’d get two ticks of 900-1000? Or is that the total damage you deal out for the entirety of the fear?

Condition-mancer vs Big Zergs

in Necromancer

Necro’s generally perform better with a larger number of enemies. While this means that these groups will have larger condition removal, you also have more allies that will also be placing conditions — which is great for epidemic. Also means you have more chances to find professions with several buffs (specifically Retaliation) for Corrupt Boon → Epidemic.

Don’t get discouraged if you get a stack of bleeds removed, just keep spreading poison and chill, which are very strong conditions despite the lack of numbers flying on your screen.

We have plenty of ranged options, and in WvW you shouldn’t have any issue with keeping a large amount and/or maxed life force, so your survivability will be a lot higher than most professions.

I just tested it in game. The math doesn’t work out right because the WIKI has the wrong scale for the damage. What is the scale? I guess I can figure that out really quick if you give me a second to go run the numbers.

Well, the wiki would indicate that you’d need almost 6000 condition damage to get 1K/tick, so…yah, that I why I was asking.
