Hey all,
Thought I’d get ask for some advice on Engineer elites. Been leveling a Charr Engi (now at 77) and been having some difficulty getting a good grasp on the elite skills. In general, there range seems to be all a bit too short for the offensive ones (mortar and barrage), and I’m not sure if I should really just use the supply crate, as I’m not specced to use turrets. Just thought I’d get some insights since the Engi has always been my least favorite of my 5 “main” classes.

And the “supposed-to-be-veteran” spider guarding skill point in Ural’s Delve still has a champion’s health and hit like champion,
Ah yes, I remember that spider. Only time I was crazy enough to down it solo was with my mesmer, right after getting the trait that generates illusions when you dodge. Probably took me half an hour of kiting. After that, I just used whatever means that were available to get the sp and gtfo.

While they aren’t BAD per-se, I do feel that there is some missing potential with the elites. As mentioned by others, abilities 3 of the abilities per tome are often unused. What I’m thinking is that Anet should probably just merge the tomes into one.
1 & 2 would be the respective 1’s of each tome.
3 could be a mass stun, as it is present in both books.
4 could be the mass quickness in tome of wrath
5 is the mass area heal.
That way we combine what (imo) are the good and used parts of the books, and than we have room for another elite skill.
Just my two cents, granted there might need to be some balancing rework, b/c I would feel like a god with this book.

Particularly with the addendum of creating events to further temporarily fortify defenses, we could truly see some epic large scale clashes. ( Granted we still do in the current state, but I’m ever an optimist )
No, to be honest to have champions assault a tower alone would make defending nearly impossible. Look at the current break out, the champion alone can probably take on 20 people and worth a flame ram in damage to the gate. If every time you capture orge/hylek/dredge one of these guys pop up, then its more of a battle for the npc than the towers.
There would be a reconstruction of priories, since holding a tower is no longer as effective if waves of champions just come bashing at you. Npc > tower + camp mentallity would happen. That’s not how it should work.
Keep > Tower > Camp > Npc is always how it should work.
You can continue the Keep/Tower priority in some sense if the NPCs were able considered fortifications for the Keep/Tower. I can see your points in some sense, however sometimes things get dull, particularly for those that are stationed to guard towers/keeps/ camps even. It doesn’t have to be so linear of an arrangement here:
“Keep > Tower > Camp > Npc is always how it should work.”
It can be intertwined where by getting NPC you support Keep/Tower/Camp.

So, this is probably going to get really heated but, let’s try to keep it civil.
Anyways, I’ve noticed there has been a lot of hate as well as support of the addition of the Breakout events. Here’s my (quick) take on it.
The main problem that I understand is that it is giving “free” help to a losing side, not letting the built in tier system do its job of auto balancing, as flawed as it might be due to server transfers etc.
Now my argument is not directly countering this statement; rather I’m saying that this is seen as a problem because the idea of events to help a player’s side hasn’t become the norm in WvW, sans the “free” part.
What I’m saying is that we should have MORE events to attempt to do to gain bonuses to help a server that need to have some effort involved to accomplish them. For those League of Legends players out there, think Baron. For example, in the Personal story, when you go to help the ogre’s you can tame some legendary rock dog to help you defend against the branded. We should be able to “Tame” some legendary force that could be used to assault a neighboring enemy held territory. This is already in the game to some extent with quaggans in the BL’s/ other forces in EB, however they never seem very significant.
With the break out events we start seeing larger effects of these events, and since it seems so “free” a lot of contention has been placed around them
This is just my 2 cents, and I can’t get too involved in this topic due to rl, but it had been nagging me since the morning.
Quick addendum: We should have events that we can do to further fortify a territory we own, since we already have some takeover events, and currently the value of holding areas as opposed to taking over more territories has not seen enough spotlight.

The range seems rather broad. Not sure if there are different averages for the different tiers, but I know when i coverted Mithril to Ori I got ~26 oris, but I had gotten 100+ on other conversions namely lower ones (namely copper through platinum)

Yes although as mentioned there exist caps on condition stacks so if you can’t get a stack/enough stacks due to other sources ( players ) also going condition builds, than your contribution will be restricted/ limited.
Still. pretty impressive that you got it up to 1500 condition damage, I think.

Seriously, quite a nuisance now that I need to swap characters to preview the armor of a different type. I imagine they removed it due to possible cs complaints that they accidentally bought the item b/c they thought they were able to wear it but really, just chock it up to user error. Don’t take away convenient features for the greater player base please.

It’s not really a time of day thing. That being said, Server Transfers (afaik) occur on a weekly basis, partially due to the limit being one (free? not sure if you can do a paid transfer in addition) transfer a week, and partially due to the fact that WvW ( World vs World ) has a weekly cycle as well. This causes people to “move to greener pastures” based on their preference ( winning vs. queues ).
You’ll probably need to choose one TC or DB, unless you are fine transitioning between the two like this.

Definitely a bug. Not sure what’s with the asura npcs lately ( Cough Citizens ). Best suggestion I can give is to turn off voices while in that area.

I don’t think the invulnerable thing is just rangers… I’ve gotten them on my guardian, pretty easily reproducible using sword skill 2 on certain mobs. Might be different (albeit related issues), since apparently the npcs will attempt to readjust their position after I teleport in.
Edit: ok just looked at ALL the screen shots… not even a vertical or boundary problem on that last one. that’s. pretty. bad. -_-

I already finished the mission, and unless ANet implements something to let you “replay” a mission, I probably won’t be able to reverify for a while, but I feel as though I did see some of those listed members. As indicated here: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immolation), while you are technically correct, and that the word is probably more appropriately associated with the concepts of sacrifice, the term has come to mean to “destroy by fire” and has come to be associated with fire (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/immolate). I could go on about how language changes meaning over time or what not, but I’d rather not. It’s an interesting TIL, but really, the term is used appropriately enough in this context given its modern day associations.

Ah, you know what? I didn’t see them either. I suppose having 15 different npcs together in a group might be a bit of a large gathering. I do recall in an Order of Whispers story quest, I saw the 5 order reps and thought that was pretty cool. Ah well, maybe they’ll add them in in the future, haha.

Playing through about five characters at a roughly 5:3 (5 hours on main, 3 hours each for other chars ), Each with almost as distinct a path as possible; I recognized most of the named npcs that were around. While some you don’t meet in just one iteration (unlike the npcs in that story ( forgot name and the gui window for me seems bugged in game, can’t scroll past estate of zhaitan, but anyways those npcs that you’ve personally recruited/encountered on that character), you meet others through the different stories. Felt like it brought it all together nicely.
There seems to be a lot of hate for Arena Net/ the personal story, and I thought I’d express my appreciation for the little things. Yes, the Zhaitan boss fight was a lil’ anti-climatic, yes there have been some bugs and difficulty issues ( those playing the game near the release date on a norn who had to regain the horn of their ancestor know what I mean by difficulty ) along the way, however despite it all, we’ve made it to the end, of this particular journey at least. So once again, thanks Arena Net, and looking forward to more from you in the future.
One thing: I WOULD like the option to be able to replay a personal story; doesn’t have to offer any rewards, I just want to be able to look back on some points in the story for things that I may have missed. Wouldn’t even mind if the loot drops were turned off ( not sure if there’d need to be a reason too ). Just throwing that in there for possible work for your dev team to consider.

I think it’d be great (particularly for the jump puzzles if we could not only zoom scroll the distance of the camera, but to “side-scroll” the position of the camera ( the feature in the standard ui ) without having to open the ui window. for example, if we held shift and moved the mouse wheel it’d change the camera position. I find it a bit anoying when I have to adjust each time to get the best camera view.

Partly to keep this thread going (because it brought up MANY valid issues), however, it occurred to me on another thread talking about the necessity of the random npc mobs, a suggestion on what (I think) could be added to allow for balancing would out the winning teams lead, would be that after gaining some X% control of total map completion, a periodic event would begin occurring where some epic monster would start laying siege to the leading worlds garrison’s (perhaps even limiting it to a monster/champion of some sort spawns for a homeworld’s border land to retake the garrison).
Although this might be considered a “knee-jerk”, addition I think it’d alleviate some of the snowballing effect that is currently in play where the winning team simply widens their lead.
Also… I just think watching some epic monster laying siege to a fortress would be awesome.
