Retaliation only kills glass cannon specs. A decent condition ranger will eat up a good ret guardian and laugh at him.

Mesmers the ultimate beat all class?

in PvP

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

My overall point is, if the Mesmer turns me into a MOA at all, it’s an automatic lose. It shouldn’t be 10 seconds of being a bird. That’s instant death. It should be turning me into a bird for 2-4 seconds with a 90 second cooldown to 2 min cooldown. 10 seconds is legit enough time for one person to completely kill another person. Think about it, go duel someone and stand still for 10 seconds, that is exactly what happens when you get turned into a MOA, you have 1 attack, “peck” deals almost no damage.

If that isn’t the best rofl stomp the devs ever came up with to troll anyone who doesn’t roll a mesmer, I don’t know what is…

Use the dodge button to run. Hide behind a line of sight object. If he chases you, make him follow. It’s pretty easy to burn that 10 seconds up, and even if you don’t, that’s 1 more mesmer that isn’t using the portal function, which is by FAR more useful to anyone with common sense. MoA is for pub stomping, perioud, and pub/pug play in GW2 is for glory only, not for winning. If that’s a problem or not is up to you, but I’m just saying no team in their right mind is speccing MoA mesmers in competitive tPvP play unless they just have a random extra mesmer to burn a useless move on.

No Common Sense in Class Balance

Except Guardians. But we’re still considered “OP”, except by the adept rangers, engineers, and mesmers who are laughing at the big ironic joke of calling us OP.

Knyx, there is no QQ/L2P “bandwagon”. Sadly, it is a necessity with the complaints on this board to stand up for the difference between “balance” and “easy to play” so that players who are casual PvPers or ex-WoW players don’t complain so much they vicariously nerf some classes into mediocrity based on their ill-conceived concepts of what needs to be done to fix the PvP structure. It’s not a bandwagon at this point, it’s a necessary counter in a desperate attempt to save something that is headed in the right direction.

Balance or Flavor of the Month?

Guardians. Zero skill. Enough said.

That doesn’t help the devs fix anything, you should elaborate with detail. Try to leave the hurt feelings out of it, it makes it easier to weed through those who are just whining and those who are trying to actually trying to make the game more balanced. So far, mind you, thieves, mesmers, guardians, and warriors are all getting lumped into the “no skill category”, with a growing number of engineers and rangers being added recently in posts, so before too long, your pointless banter will actually turn in on itself and you’ll vindicate the “if everything is OP, nothing is” reference.

I’ve so far heard every profession except elementalists and necros referred to as OP more than once. Your point is both invalid and of childish disposition, and I would assume you will continue to be a bad player for quite some time until you adjust your attitude.

I play every class, I suggest you try out the others, pro. OP makes you good, cry when they nerf. I’ll just switch class.

If you play every class less than a month in, you are not mastering any of them, and I promise you, you are pretty bad, unless you are a homebody with nothing to do but GW2, in which case, I can see why you’re burned out and jaded.

Very tired of double guardian/mesmer teams.....

They run it because they know almost everyone is running a PUG tournament build with no supportive skills, stuns, coordination, or focus to any one target, and guardians and mesmers that aren’t focused and build for survival will outlast you all until you get wise to it.

And be careful who you call below average, there are some really good Mesmers out there who will make you look silly because while I don’t think they are OP, they have a LOT of tools to affect the fight, and if you are the type to blast through all your offensive CDs they will laugh at you. Know this and realize you won’t burn a good mesmer or guardian down fast 1v1.

This would be a nice addition, to have whatever set you currently have on in the map you’re in show, but on the totem pole of things to fix and adjust right now, this is a low priority.

I play a guardian, both a bunker spec and a meditation/burn spec.

Thieves by themselves are usually a joke, because 90% of them paper-spec, the ones that don’t are the real problem in tPvP. In a group, if they coordinate, they will take down any one person, which in tournament play means, they will all go down right afterwards because I don’t have a braindead team.

As for mesmers, I can’t say. I’m still trying to figure out their class, but as a guardian, mesmers and rangers seem to have my number if they are good.

You will have a thief catch you off-guard or with your CDs burned on occasion and, being opportunists, they will have their way with you. But other than that, if you’re still getting burned down by thieves every time, you might want to reconsider your spec.

Veteran pvper's problems in GW2

in PvP

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

Truth is, it’s the veteran WoW players that are having a major problem with this game, and most of us have no problem if you go back to WoW

That’s not true, I have a problem with the sPvP mechanics and I’ve competed in many other games but WoW. I still do fine and always get top player, but the mechanics are just terrible and classes are just ridiculously imbalanced.

Games I’ve competed in for the record:

MvC2, EC, PJ, SF, KI, CoD, CS, Halo, LoL, DoTa, FFXI, GW, WoW

P.S. Not complaining about it, just stating the obvious facts about sPvP.

Um… you LISTED WoW as a game you’ve played, just because you played others doesn’t mean you’re not a former WoW player.

Stop stating opinions as facts and I’ll take you more seriously. The “fact” is, this game makes it MUCH easier to completely screw your spec up all to hell, which means a lot of people you’ve faced so far are not going to contribute to your view of “balance” less than a month after release.

Veteran pvper's problems in GW2

in PvP

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

I’ll start this post by saying I agree that there are some issues to fix with this game, but…

Truth is, it’s the veteran WoW players that are having a major problem with this game, and most of us have no problem if you go back to WoW. I left many years ago because the PvP was unbalanced, even after 8 years of time to make it so.

As a veteran WoW PvPer, god forbid Anet listens too much to you truly whiney people.

This game is already FAR more balanced than WoW was after 8 years of development of PvP less than a month after launch, and the reason why you can’t stand it is because you can no longer out-gear your opponent, the action is too fast for you, and you wonder why you suck. Deal with it, and stop poisoning these forums with pointless posts that do not offer up CONSTRUCTIVE and mature criticism. This game is not for you, move on. (I’m speaking in terms of 5v5 tournament play, I assume if you’re a serious PvPer you are not taking 8v8 seriously like the rest of us).

I think so far, after swimming through piles and piles and unbelievable PILES of garbage posts, almost everyone that is complaining is a WoW “vet”. Crippled by gear dependancy is my assumption, and I’ll leave it at that.

In WoW, you had no options. You grinded the gear, you used the “build”. You know, the only one viable in PvP, because you couldn’t create your own, the game wasn’t balanced enough to allow for it. And if you didn’t raid, god help you get the weapons you need to faceroll. Give people more freedom and balance and they complain, because they have to try, and because they can no longer faceroll.

I don’t make posts like this often, but I’ve never seen such whining. EVER. In anything, reguardless a game. And it’s just such vindication when almost all of you admit you’re comparing this to WoW, which in spite of it’s great polish, time in development and overall superiority to everything in the MMO market, has NEVER come close to balancing PvP.

Get over your need to faceroll. Stop being pretentious “WoW” pros. Just let it go, it’s over. Go back to WoW. Personally, I can’t wait.

Point system is broke

Ignoring the crybaby “PvP sucks Arenanet I can’t play!” posts, viable suggestions… since this is what the forums are for, not airing of grievances, especially nabbish ones that have no merit for people that actually know how to play.

Best ideas so far:

1) Faster capping the more people are standing on a node.

2) Reduction of points per kill

3) Standing on a node produces a slow ticker of glory (I would say something like 1 point every 10 seconds or so but I’d have to see it first) or better yet, a faster ticker for only when you are in combat defnding a taken node to try and avoid botting.

4) Option to hotjoin 5v5 sPvP that isn’t tournament

I think starting there would fix a few of the problems and produce a few more people willing to play a supportive role. I run a bunker spec in my tournament play because we play to win, but I have a much more offensive build for regular play because it’s easier to farm honor by killing more people.

I would love for someone to explain to me on these boards what actual skill is, because apparently anything involving playing a class and pressing a button is lame and easy.

We’ve gone from “Heartseeker is lame and OP” to complaining about stuns now? Really?

Fine I’ll join in, since we’re being silly. Condition damage is OP. I just sit there on fire and bleeding and poisoned and there’s nothing I can do about it. Discuss.

Mesmers & thieves too powerful?

The same things were being said during beta weekends about the Warrior’s frenzied bull-rush hundred blades, and now that people are learning to dodge back and watch them swing at nothing, it’s not so bad.

It all depends on your build, really, which is what’s so great about this game. YOU decide what kind of player you are, and that determines what you are strong/weak against.

That said… the Moa Morph lasts way too long.

Bulls charge, frenzy, hundred blades is MUCH easier and simpler to deal with than a thief with evades on their abilitys and a stealth built in.. You can’t even compare the two man.

Sure you can. Thieves have no armor, warriors do. Better armor = less evasion options. Better evasion = less armor. Apples to apples.

It’s a good dynamic at times, when you have teams that pay attention and actually protect you/rez you, but when you’re on your own, it’s just waiting to die most of the time, or stalling, neither of which are fun.

Getting up in the middle of a fight from the dead and wrecking face after a well timed rez, however, is very fun.

I can’t read that link, so I’ll just post this. If you have around 1800 toughness and 17k + life and a few traits into, say, retaliation, or one that burns enemies upon block, etc. you should never have trouble with a thief 1v1 again with their silly HS spam.

Just make sure you keep a stunbreak or two (I currently use 3) and pop your best defensive CDs right away, don’t wait with a thief.

It’s either that, or no more instant matches in pug 8v8. I prefer getting in there to play and test out builds rather than wait for even matches sides, and leaving when I want without penalty.

It’s really only there I think to build you up for tournament play, which is where the real strategy comes in, or for casuals to come in a no pressure environment to play and learn.

I was actually thinking they need to add a “bleed-out” option the other day, when a pretty elite team we were facing was deliberately keeping us in downed state. While obviously within the rules, it’s just not fun sitting on the ground throwing rocks for that long.

I am suprised this came from a guardian…

…but the truth is what’s already been said, you probably have a flimsy build, and you’re probably being targeted by players at least experienced enough to know if they burst you, you’ll go down.

Damage to me seems just about right on the whole. The people I see that are knocking me for a loop, usually end up dropping like a sack if I can hold out through their burst, and the guys that refuse to budge or take damage like the bunker guardians, can’t really kill anyone either.
