[REQUEST] toggle for kit backpacks!

They are definitely not strictly cosmetic.
Enemies have to see what “weapon” the engineer is carrying so in PvP and WvW the Kit-Backpacks are pretty important.

For PvE however its not that important.

Simply add a boon icon to the Engie, much like an Elementalist in their chosen attunement, and possibly color coordinate an aura while in each individual kit. But seriously, we swap so often, the boon icon would be the simplest and easiest fix.

Gear for SD/Rifle build?

in Engineer

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

Hi there

I’m new to engineer and wanted to go for rifle + SD, traiting deep into Tools; I picked up this build because of the potential burst it has got by enhancing the rifle.

I’ll be quick: I like big numbers. It doesn’t matter if in the long run my steady dps is inferior to a grenade build, I want to deliver high spikes of damage and kite, while using gadgets and other utilities to get away from enemies.

Yesterday I spent some time on the calculator and came up with this build

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlspyUX7SyF17IxoHkW0bG0j86X7+pAbB-jgxAYrgk8KiGbZrIasKGM9JRUt7oIa1BBMK-e

But I have some doubts on the traits and the gear.

*Traits: I noticed how noone picks up the 20% reduced CD on rifle; why is that so? Is it not worth it? Are rifle skills on a low CD anyways to want such trait? Does this trait give you 100% chance to trigger combo finishers with combo fields (like iDuellist)?

*Gear: I guess I should gear for high crit dmg but I don’t think it’s a good idea to run a GC build, since I don’t have the survivability of my mesmer; in that link I mixed up berserker gear with some cavalier and knight, but I would like to know the optimal stat spread; how much crit chance should I aim for? Is 35% crit chance too little (I’ll be using utility goggles with its belt counterpart to time burst)? What is the minimum vitality and toughness I should aim for? Is 16k hp enough? Is 2.5k armor too much? Should I consider condition damage at all (since I also put bleeds/burning on targets) or it’s not even worth it? I would be pleased if you could provide concrete numbers.

Thanks for your attention and let me know if I should move some points from some trait to another or if I should drop some utility for another.

Not sure how the build works for PvE, but for PvE and (generally speaking) WvW:

1) 35% crit is a little low but can work if you bring goggles and Medikit (Drop Stimulant)… I usually aim for around 44%.

2) Armor and toughness mean very little, the build needs avoidance to survive… if you’re concerned with staying alive that long. This is where Toolkit comes in (Gear Shield) and either taking the grandmaster trait Adrenal Implant for more endurance regen, or taking 10 points into Vitality to get Invigorating Speed. In this respect, the 20% CD reduction on rifle isn’t bad to take, because essentially Overcharged Shot buys you a few extra seconds towards your heal versus a single target and hits like a truck. It also sets up a Jump Shot which is very strong in this build.

3) Full Zerker in sPvP, not sure if there’s a better option but you’re essentially stacking power/crit/crit damage. Anything else starts to water down the build, and I’m of the opinion that SD builds watered down are lesser options over other more tanky power rifle builds.

The build you posted is a strong and pretty standard SD build, especially if you can net your target and get a jump shot in before unleashing the burst… the vulnerability stack from sitting duck, jump shot, and analyze is considerable. In sPvP you typically use either Runes of Divinity or Runes of the Scholar, so take that for what it’s worth. The extra vit/toughness won’t do you much good IMO.

Hope this helps.

Elixir R

in Engineer

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

I take back what I said about the Toss Elixir R. Giving the rest of the profession revives a hard look and really comparing pros and cons of each, the Engineer comes out near the top. I think the one thing I overlooked most was cast time. Other professions are in the range of 3-5s for a revive. We’re at a quick 3/4, ranged, and AOE (albeit a small one you likely won’t get more than one person).

Elixir R itself is still bad to me, but if you need people to stay alive I think it’s definitely worth taking if only for the Toss. I’m not sure what else they could do to Elixir R to make it better, removing the cast time might be enough but man that stun break was nice. I’m thinking Stability would be OP (no stun break so you can’t use it while stunned), though we have no other reliable method of obtaining stability (and this one wouldn’t be AOE) so a short 3s or so could be nice. What else do you think could or should be done for Elixir R itself? Is it fine how it is or would you adjust it somehow that I haven’t thought of?

Just get rid of the cast time on the endurance refill. That was unnecessary.

Rifle/SD seems to have been improved?

in Engineer

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

And out of curiosity, yes, 3.5k? Is this another one of these slight hyperboles common in forums, or a case of casually forgetting to mention 25 Might and 25 Vulnerability and 25 Bloodlust?

Because though I can see an increase in 500 damage from adding ruby orbs (more if Scholar) I can’t see a 1.5k increase from it. Perhaps with Bloodlust on top too. And Might.

Well, no answers to my question so I suppose there really was nothing to add to it. I’m enjoying the build. It’s simple, it feels fluid. The damage doesn’t seem bad even though SD ‘only’ crits for around 2k until I change my rune setup. It still means the above mentioned 2k , 4k and 8k (on a 7, 12 and 18 second CD) +2k SD each time (if everything crits).

To further along your point, though… SD builds were significantly buffed in the last patch, with good SD option for mobility and escape in Rocket Boots, and reduced CDs on Battering Ram, and increased damage on Rifle Turret. All around solid buffs to what was already a decent single target nuke build.

I still very much enjoy the game, the PvP, and the game engine. Have still yet to level a character past 56 and still enjoying the overall flow.

In have my own selection of issues with the game, some I’m more frustrated about than others, but even with this game’s PvP still lacking, it SLAUGHTERS anything WoW had to offer. I’m sorry but rotating 40 skills and watching your toolbar the entire time just isn’t fun to me.

Overall, I think their progression has been slow, but it doesn’t look like GW2 is going away any time soon, so I’m positive it still only gets better from here. If you already don’t like the game, you probably never will, that’s not wrong nor write, it’s just a matter of opinion.

And those of you touting “they said e-sports!” as your reason, just quit. They never once said “we will be major e-sports ready within 10 months!” they only ever stated on several occasions that their ultimate goal with tPvP was to become an e-sport. It’s been taken out of context more than the Darth Vader quote.

I’ve been doing pretty well 1v1 against most Necros and Rangers lately in my most recent build… it doesn’t really have a strong place in tPvP but for just general play, it stands well against any profession and is very tanky.

It’s basically a tanky CC power rifle build. I post builds here all the time to no fanfare, so I’ll just say if you’re interested just PM me and I’ll go over the details.

Surprise Shot remains superior for SD rifle

I think it’s all subjective to the way you want to apply the burst. There are many ways you can run SD now, including with no ToolKit considering how our mobility options have increased for escape.

There is always less viable options , that’ll never change.

It more depends on the team you run with, since SD builds are typically very poor solo roamers unless they just happen to catch someone off-guard.

Lol the best SD builds are hardly “poor roamers” , you have more than most zerker users would have. They’re usually running a zerker set-up in WvW roaming for a reason to top this off , only a true fool with lesser skills would run it solo if they desire to become a “bag”.

WTF are you talking about?

Good/Top Engineers Post Patch

in PvP

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

Engineers barely even NEED a stunbreak, stop being drama queens. We’ve got traits that make us stealth when we’re immobilized, 20% damage reduction when downed or stunned, Protection for 3-5 seconds when hit with a crit, Protection when CC’d… we have so many ways to avoid being locked down, it’s just that FOTM builds don’t like to change and adapt.

Don’t worry, there’s plenty of Engineers already working on the next top-end tPvP build while you complain here.

It’s happened. Every. Single. Patch.

Yet every patch “lolnerfedengiesucksnowlol” because someone took away your cookie. Just wait, you’ll have a build to copy and paste in a week or two.

If we can survive Kit Refinement being erased or even the nerf to Elixir S, the nerf to Elixir R is pathetically insignificant in comparison. And I heard the same complaints during those nerfs.

Elixir R

in Engineer

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

You know, I typed out this long response that detailed all the things Elixir R still does alongside the rez function, and all these possible scenarios, but I realize that truthfully, I’ve been around since release, and I’ve seen these responses on the forums time and time again, I’ve seen constant “Engie is useless now” comments and we always come right back towards the top of the meta, usually WITHIN the timeframe of the very patch that supposedly “breaks us”, just because of the people who don’t let a simple nerf dictate their disposition on the profession.

You should check my post history before you make assumptions and exaggerations. I’m on your side. I’ve never thought the Engineer was broken, and never considered quitting over any patch. The Engineer is very powerful and I have constantly told people on these forums we’re not broken. I’m only responding to this thread, and this particular skill which I don’t think is good anymore.

You can’t really be citing condition removal as a reason to slot this, can you? 1 condition every 2 minutes? It’s negligible at best. Putting that in the “pro” column but leaving out how the skill ticks in the “con” column? That’s not an honest argument.

First of all, yes, the condition removal is a notable thing, especially for bunkers who trait to get the Elixir R back again at 25% life and also run Automated Reponse (I would actually say that most people who ran with Elixir R traited for this anyway). There have been far more reputable Engineers than I who have posted builds as such on these boards, and some of them also noted the perk of having condition cleanse before 25% life and then being immune to conditions after that, long enough to turn the tide of the fight.

Secondly, how does this turn into debating the details of the rez effect itself on Elixir R now? I thought the reason it was useless was the lack of stunbreak? So if the rez on it was so bad… people were only running with Elixir R for the stunbreak?

In other words, if you already felt like the rez effect on Elixir R was subpar to begin with, there were far better options to take along for a stunbreak. If you thought the rez effect was the main part of the potion, then you truthfully won’t notice very much wrong with the Elixir rather than the fact that there’s a cast time on your endurance refill, which that part is a little annoying I’ll admit.

I’m not trying to convince anyone that Elixir R’s rez was the best in the game, I’m saying if you already took it for that (most people did) then it’s far from suddenly “useless”.

I can’t see a tPvP scenario where you would have Warriors, Necros, etc. using their rez skills when an Engie can carry Elixir R as an afterthought and barely affect their build in any negative way, as they still carry with it condition removal and endurance refill.

But what about PvE? When I run as support with my guild, I would PREFER to have Elixir R as my stun break, so I am not tied to the Elixir gun, which inhibits my DPS in fights were we need it.

I will still run it where we need it, but why would they make that elixir so pointless EXCEPT for the tool belt skill?

I mean, have it remove 1 condition max, or make it not a combo field, or SOMETHING that still synergizes with a support build and put the stun break back in.

I speak only from a PvP perspective.

But that said… given the info you gave there… why not just take a different stunbreak utility?

….On the flip side I have never been disappointed when I need a revive from a Warrior, Necro, Ele, or Guardian. If they use the skill, I’m getting revived. Period. None of this “well I hope I’m not actually being hit by anything” as is present with Elixir R. Which is ironic because for Elixir R to work you have to pretty much be in a state where you could just use Bandage to revive yourself eventually.

Exactly. Why bring an engineer with a chance of a revive, when you could bring a Warrior with an instant up… or 2.

Where the R toss shines is with either A. decent range, or B. self rez which we DESPERATELY need due the appalling downed state we current have to suffer through.

I don’t know what is worse, realizing that if I take elixir R as a utility that I will more likely die because of chain stuns, or knowing that if I toss it before I go down, it has a less than 50/50 chance of reviving me before I get stomped and there is nothing I can do about it.

But hey, I can do two more rolls…

You’re seriously saying bring a Warrior instead of an Engie with Elixir R into a tPvP team? Please… PLEASE… post this on the Warrior forums. I’ll go grab a bag of popcorn.

What other rez in the game can you execute from 1200 distance, rez more than one person if they are within 180 radius, and do all over again when your character reaches 25% life via trait, or choose to rez yourself while removing conditions?

Most people tend to only think of things are useful in terms of how they benefit on a personal level, which is why you see such hate about our downed state, since it’s obviously a team-oriented one, not a self oriented one, like a Ranger’s. It’s the most versatile rez ability in the game.

I have never had that much success with it. Since it’s a pulse and not an instant revive, most of the time for me it gets the targets close to reviving but doesn’t actually work. They are taking damage. That damage prevents them from reviving themselves even just a little bit, so they don’t actually get revived and I just blew a cooldown. Thus regardless of how many times it resets, how frequently I can use it, from how far away, or how many targets, it has rarely done more than disappoint me. The stun *R*emoval (how ironic) — and by extension the instant use — was the best part of the skill to me.

On the flip side I have never been disappointed when I need a revive from a Warrior, Necro, Ele, or Guardian. If they use the skill, I’m getting revived. Period. None of this “well I hope I’m not actually being hit by anything” as is present with Elixir R. You are more than entitled to your opinion, I just don’t see it at all. Unless a player is specifically designated as the “rez guy”, I can’t see a tPvP scenario where you would have Warriors, Necros, etc. using their rez skills when an Engie can carry Elixir R as an afterthought and barely affect their build in any negative way, as they still carry with it condition removal and endurance refill.

And I guess I’m also a little defiant against the boards when I see topics like this because suddenly there are so many drama queens the minute we get the slightest of nerfs, and they are usually pretty insignificant in the big picture. People are actually QUITTING ENGINEER over this nerf, and considering it’s not even as bad as the Elixir S nerf, it’s getting just plain silly around here.

This is why it was nerfed, it was so massively OP that it twisted the conception of an utility skill and set some extremely high expectation for one single skill.

Stun breaker, endurance refill, revive field, condition removal field. IN ONE SINGLE UTILITY. But since you guys got used to having such a massively OP skill now you find anything that doesnt bend time and space while making pancakes “useless”.

More thinking, less whining, act like real engineers.

Come on. We give up skill slots for our “weapon swaps” the things we DO slot need to be MORE USEFUL.

We deserve no special treatment just because we function differently from other professions. This kind of logic is poisonous, because it shows that no matter what changes are made to balance, you will always likely believe it’s unfair, since you are predisposed to believe we deserve some sort of special consideration.

People saying Elixir R is useless now… right, because the best quality of the Elixir was the stunbreak? It was just a perk, and one that fit into the most popular builds, which were Elixir builds, and so in that respect, some people would have their build be a little less powerful, even though honestly, in most of the builds that carried Elixir R, you hardly even needed a stunbreak, and most still had Elixir S in the mix as well (which was 10 times worse of a nerf than this one yet a lot less complaining).

It’s like saying my new Porsche is useless now because they took the CD player out of it. Get real, it’s the best rez assist item in the entire game, self-rez or teammate rez, it’s still incredibly viable and STILL the best Elixir overall. The cast time addition to the endurance refill was the only really dumb change to this, that one didn’t make any sense, as the entire point of needing an endurance refill is to be able to dodge again, and dodges are kind of something you need to do in a hurry.

Versus multiple opponents there is the same problem. Sure, you can stun them, but any action will cancel the shield anyway, and it lasts only for 2 seconds in any case.

Blocking all melee and ranged hits for 2 seconds, from multiple sources, is easily better than expending your entire block to stun the ranger pet, or mesmer clone. This is the worst case scenario, obviously. I’m just making a point that there will me many times where the current Shield 5 is superior.

It seems to be a 1v1 toning down and a 1vX improvement.

I’m very thankful that you also speak for the Engineer profession on a high-tier level rather than just Ostricheggs, who often seems to be like a child prodigy with no concept of what’s going on yet he still dominates.

listen here “kitten”, I don’t care what bunker build you run, you won’t stop a team of 1v5 long enough for them to even know you are a bunker.

also
Why would you say points don’t matter, then follow up with an advertisement for your r13theif (whoopie do btw) by saying “always number one in my team!”.

I don’t expect a valid argument from someone like yourself, but at least don’t make self-defeating statements and then claim someone else is stupid.

But he’s right… if you’re going by hotjoin (I’m assuming you are because no tPvP player would say the points indicate anything) then most of the time, the person with the most points is either the person who stayed with the zerg, or capped the most nodes. Of those two things, capping nodes is important, but most of the time in hotjoin, people will literally race all the way across an empty battlefield, leaving another nodes defenseless, just to cap a point with you, which is pointless.

Points from kills are subjective… I can’t tell you the number of games, so frustrating, to watch people duke it out over a single point while the enemy has 2 completely empty nodes on both sides that are defenseless. In this respect, I’ve seen teams with glory scores of 200+ to ours in the low 100s or less that we beat 500-200.

So basically, they are right, it doesn’t indicate anything except that you tagged someone that got killed, or you capped a point. It ‘could’ mean you played well, but it isn’t proof of anything.

Anet is asking too much for pvp arenas, but it’s not my point…my point is about anet asking for something pvp players can’t get without paying real money while pve farmers can, even if they never went pvp in their whole life…seriously can you get it or not? It’s like the third time i explain this…

New meta paid hotjoin. Let’s zergfest everyone!

Hotjoin is still free. You’re being incredibly shallow and childish, and overreacting… much like a child does.

Let’s debate price-point and features, fine… because Anet IS asking to much, I can agree. But your approach to debate and your arguments are just plain childish and annoying.

I do think the price is a little steep, and that glory should be able to be used to help negate Arena costs, rather than gold, since PvPers have no steady access to gold.

That said, many of you here are insane. You’re already complaining about having to pay for a feature that hasn’t even existed for ten months, now suddenly it’s a basic feature you’re entitled to… Spoiled. Rotten. Kids.

basic feature: choose who you play against
anet idea: add extra crap & sell for money

you should be able to play a standard game on a map of your choosing, against whomever you choose, and it should never cost you a single dime (or gem)

I really don’t give a rat’s kitten about all the other features, and I don’t care to have an “always-on” arena that anyone can join. To me, this feels like they just trying to get us to pay for hotjoin. hahahahaha They want us to fund RANDOM ARENAS xD

I’ve enjoyed months and months of GW2 PvP without having it, I can continue to do so.

New generation of SD rifle build?

SD build still sucks

Informative and enlightening.

But anyway, SD builds are stronger… there will still be a limited place in the meta tPvP for them because they are ultimately still a single target nuke, even with the static bouncing around, but they are arguably one of the more mobile burst builds around now if you take Rocket Boots, Speedy Kits, and Rifled Barrels, and now they can be run without a necessity of taking ToolKit.

ITT: I want a pony and I want it NOW, Daddy!

But truthfully, no, I don’t think the devs owe anyone anything, and I don’t know why it’s so important to anyone for the devs to explain their decisions, especially when the current internet disposition is that of just waiting for the explanation to simply continue the argument.

Forum Guy: Why did you nerf Elixir R?
Dev: We wanted to bring other potions up for consideration, since this potion currently stunbreak’d, self-rez’d, endurance refill’d, and condition cured.
Forum Guy: Thanks for your response… what are you guys, idiots? Why not make our other potions even better to bring them up?
Dev: In the current state of the game, that potion did more that most utility skills of any other profession.
Forum Guy: Do you even understand how Engies are played? That potion nerf has single handedly made our profession terrible, delete please, since you obviously never play Engie.

Some of you wouldn’t do this, most would. I wouldn’t answer you, either.

/Shrug, I don’t believe in trolling the developers who take the time to respond to forum posts, but I can see where you’re coming from. Perhaps I’m just spoiled in your eyes, but I’d like to see more developer/community interaction in the future.

This one is already better than most, and considering there’s no monthly fee, their support in general and communication is stellar.

Jump Shot bugged?

It looks a little shorter, but the damage radius is larger, so maybe that was figured into the math of the distance?

conditions, conditions everywhere!

What else is new?
——————-

I think the Deep Strike Warrior Trait (+ precision per unused signet) might be bugged. It’s not updating my precision or crit chance in my stats screen.

well i noticed that my warrior is dying a whole lot faster and more often now.
played 3 rounds of sPvP for the PvP Dailies.

extremely fast dying rate compared to pre patch.
before patch, i can play my warrior in sPvP (non tourny) a whole round without dying and scoring lots of kills. now, i die in seconds. to conditions.

cannot cleanse them fast enough.
rabid amulet, soldiers rune.
0/0/25/30/15

not sure about the deep strike thing though. but if you cannot see the changes in the numbers then it is probably bugged i guess.

perhaps it is time to put warrior to rest for a while and explore my necromancer conditions spamming options.

Keep in mind that lots of professions received buffs to their condition builds in some way, or for a few, new conditions to try out altogether, so if you’re in hotjoin, be ready for that, there are going to be a lot of condition builds around for a while again, trying out Torment and other little things professions have been tweaked with on condition damage.

This doesn’t mean conditions are suddenly rampant, it just means they will be popular again for a while.

Contrary to these boards, most of the experiences in game (from who I’ve chatted with) have been very positive so far, lots of new options to explore, and most seem counterable. Have not seen anything thusfar that felt OP, but it’s young days still.

Overall, the best patch so far for me since Launch.

Rumble?

in Engineer

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

I’m not sure why rumble has the 1s stability, since its instant cast, but Well of Power and Stomp got the same thing when they were changed to stunbreaks. the idea is that they can keep the cast animations but make you unable to be interrupted thanks to the stability.

I think the idea is because it’s a stunbreak without any real utility involved to allow for escape… such as, Elixir R refilling your endurance for a dodge, Elixir S shrinking you for 3 seconds, this one gives you enough time to break stun and at least heal without being interrupted.

It might also help if they gave us a bit more zoom back. I truthfully only prefer using an Asura character in PvP because I can see more of what’s going on around me, I can’t imagine trying to use a Norn with the terrible camera angles in the middle of a cluttered fight, especially fighting on the tight spaces on the nodes. That combined with particle density is a nightmare sometimes.

Skill/Trait Updates incoming for all!

in Engineer

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

It would be just mobility and nothing else, though. You wouldn’t even be able to actually use the toolkit, due to the KR. Nice gimmick, but i can’t see a real, practical use for a similar build.

We would become arguably the most mobile profession in the entire game… I see practical use for that. Bare in mind this works into several existing builds, it’s not like we’d just be running around doing nothing, this wouldn’t require a gimmick build, it already nestles pretty nicely into our SD build (maybe without Slick Shoes for Personal Battering Ram on it’s new insanely low CD).

MMMMMMM Rifle+Kit Refinement+Tool Kit+Slick Shoes+Rocket Boots = massive mobility… my body is ready indeed.

Yet another reason why this patch would be a massive buff to us and further evidence that the notes aren’t entirely accurate, but I sure hope so.

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

in Engineer

Posted by: aydenunited.5729

aydenunited.5729

The idea that hobosacks are needed to help the enemy know what kit you are in is the weakest argument Ive seen on these forums.

Hobosack visibility is greatly reduced with any sort of range especially when the engineer is looking toward you. This is quite apparent on Asura and Norn.

The Bomb kit and toolkit have the same sack.

You are more likely to recognize the kit they are in by the weapon they are carrying more then the sack on their backside. Even more likely by the distinct skill animations.

Easy fix. Make the backpacks BIGGER.

I made a suggestion to just add a boon icon based on what kit the engineer was currently in, sort of like the attunement icons that Ele’s have. This would solve that problem and no longer require a visual aid, if that is really the reason they don’t allow a toggle to show/hide the kits.
