The few seconds where they prevent you from leaving CAF after entering is probably the biggest issue I have.
Well, it’s already 15 seconds on Bandit’s Defense and it’s also a stunbreak there too…admittedly the block isn’t as long though.
I’m just tired of getting locked into the animation by multi-hit attacks that simultaneously allows the caster to evade.
Counterattack on greatsword is great and all, except the for part where you get locked into the knockdown animation. I was thinking it’d be interesting if it could be reworked into something similar to the daredevil’s Bandit’s Defense where you block an attack, and then you have a short frame of time where you can then choose if you want to activate the knockdown.
So a reworked version of Counterattack would have the block. If you choose to throw the greatsword for a cripple, you can. But once you get hit within melee range, your block goes away and you can then choose if you want to activate the knockback or not.
What do you guys think?
In my experience it’s the pet’s range, which is why sometimes it doesn’t go off if my pet is lagging behind on a ledge or something. I’ve just started swapping pets right before I start it just to make sure I have a pet in range if I need it in a hurry.
Does anyone know how long the Search And Rescue effect lasts for? I popped it to use on a teammate who went down, but he got stomped before I could get there. But like 5 or so seconds later, another teammate went down and just as I was cursing myself for wasting the shout, my pet instantly teleported him to my feet.
Has anyone else noticed this? Or was it just a fluke.
Just FYI, the fury you get from dodging doesn’t proc remorseless because the crippling strike uses it up. Unless that was your intention, in which case carry on.
Frankly, Anet did no more or less than exactly what they promised. They promised to look into changing shouts during the druid release and they did exactly just that. And only that.
The last official word we had from them regarding changes were “In the future, we’ll continue to explore ways to improve on the ranger’s ties to both their pets and nature. We’re still looking at the druid’s viability in group scenarios and will continue to monitor its overall effectiveness, making changes where necessary.”
I’m guessing they might look into tweaking something with pets and spirits then…probably no weapon rework for a while.
Shared Anguish
Incoming disables are transferred to your pet instead. Applies camouflage when you are disabled.
Or something that manages to merge the two.
Ancient seeds isn’t that useful if you don’t have the CC’s though. It’d be nice if lingering light was a decent/viable alternative in those cases.
I mean lingering light doesn’t have to go back down to the 4sec it was before, but 12 secs just doesn’t seem worth it. Especially with all the burst damage flying around now, blinds would be incredibly useful.
:/ it’d be nice if devs would just take another look at lingering light. Right now it’s useless in all gamemodes. Reducing the cooldown on it by just a little would be great…
Oh and some snarky line about making rapid fire remove 1 condi per hit ;-)
Well, if we could get a light field trap… :P
Something I thought would be interesting was if we could choose when to activate our traps without needing someone to stand in it, that way we could get access to fields on demand….
But then I don’t know how we’d manage the cooldowns. Would the CD start when you activate the trap like mesmer mantras…? That would be a significant drawback I suppose.
Or give traps secondary functions. I always thought that thief shadowtrap was very interesting in that you could either choose to destroy and teleport back, let someone activate it and choose to teleport, or let someone activate and ignore, but know that someone was in the area.
Gotta say, this is one of the few times when Anet hit a perfect balance for skills between PvP and PvE. Not only is this awesome for PvP, but I just finished running 70+ fractals with half the recommended AR spending the entire time spamming this off cooldown porting people away from fractal finishers.
I liked how the update attempted to address every part of the game, and understand that prepping core Tyria for gliding must’ve taken up a huge chunk of dev time. I also liked how the people responsible for rangers kept their promise from September to rework shouts. It’s really great that they followed up on their word. They promised a shouts rework and delivered. They didn’t promised shortbow or sword rework so I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything else.
That said, I was hoping there would be some sort of discussion with the playerbase regarding PvP balance like Colin promised us.
“shortly the balance team will start discussing with you the next big balance update for early 2016 with everyone to gather feedback”
Now, I wasn’t aware of any discussion that went on. I didn’t see it on the forums, on reddit, or on twitch. The only discussion I sort of saw was Grouch asking for amulet and sigil ideas. I did see players discussing among themselves what classes needed balance and how, but nothing from the balance team itself.
For now it’s probably too early to say anything definitive about the balance and meta, but I do know that if there was any discussion with the balance team involved, I wasn’t aware of it.
I hate this change so freaking much. There goes all the fun glides you could do around Kyhlo…
Can someone check if they stealth nerfed pet damage or anything?
Would blocking weapon swap in mid-air be the solution or would that make others’ tricks no longer effective?
Well, then people wouldn’t be able to cancel their greatsword swoop halfway to control the distance I guess. Probably applies to a lot of other jump skills too.
I’d much rather they throw in some invisible barriers or something else…
They might change staff so it will require correct pathing to trigger. Sort of like the change done to the blinking skills.
Oh please no. That will destroy so many evade tricks you do on staff…
can i have some of what your smoking?
Given its a stunbreak, has no tell, and a lower cd protect me is better because of how tanky bristle back and smoke scale are. Only drawback is point capture but you can cancel protect me so that shouldn’t be an issue. Of course this will all change on the 26th.
What’s going to change?
Protect Me – Now will break stun on nearby allies, giving you protection and cause the next foe that attack you to be taunted by your pet.
Not sure if they’re adding these onto the old Protect me, or if this is what the new Protect me will be from now on.
And I read /map chat in the Mist Lobby.
You just lost all credibility.
Thank you, everyone. I started eyeing the marauder set after bloodpyrope mentioned zerker. As for my bear, I’ve been wanting to get a smokescale, just haven’t made it to TD on my ranger…yet. Will do that over the next few days.
Just need to restock some mats to get the inscriptions made to regear. I want to see what, if anything, will happen to celestial gear before I dispose of it.
You don’t need smokescale, but a tanky pet that still does damage would be drakes.
If your in Ruby, he would have to be in at least sapphire to be matched with you.
What makes you say that? I’ve had sapphire players matched with me as a diamond before. Of course it was pretty late at night where there were less players, but it’s still possible. As far as I know, there’s nothing to prevent you from getting matched with/against players in lower league divisions.
Just check out all those screen shots from the catastrophic matchmaking threads.
I mean, if you want to be tanky and do damage to mobs, you might want to consider condi ranger. I had one that was geared out in full dire for wvw, but it works fine in HoT content. There’s enough toughness to let you facetank everything.
Is there any reason why you’re not running full zerk or a more damaging pet?
BTW there is an attribute called Ferocity
Druids are pretty common in raids. The only reason I can think of for why druid isn’t listed as a meta build is because people can’t decide which build is best.
My optimism has dropped slightly, but I probably have to wait 2 more years before I catch up to the level of despair everyone else is experiencing.
Excellent! Now I can say I’m choosing which amber I want to play with instead of relying on matchmaking to assign me a random amber?!
I don’t really consider longbow a damage weapon, more of a utility weapon now.
Stealth while tempest and scrappers are reflecting so you can decap a bit. PBS for more decap or interrupting the Tempest heal.
Is it intended that the heal glyph doesn’t heal our pets? That’d make it the only heal (outside of useless water spirit) that doesn’t also heal our pets…
Is it worth giving up the mid point over it though? He did that twice throughout the match. Since he channeled it twice we would get 11 points per kill, but is that worth more than getting 1 point every 2 seconds?
So, I’m not pro or anything so I just wanted to know if getting the ferocity buff at temple is part of some high level strategy I don’t understand.
I noticed in one game last night, a tempest on my team kept going for the side buffs multiple times. Even to the point of giving up our midpoint. And when the game ended, he turned out to be ruby ranked!
I always though ferocity buff was something of a waste of time/noob trap, but is there some legit benefit for getting it? I mean, we did end up barely winning the game, but I was surprised to see a Ruby ranked player getting it!
Yeah, there was a video posted back about some ranger trolling in WvW one shotting people with a drake’s tailswipe. I don’t remember the build, but it had Signer of the Wild, Rampage as one, and Sic em stacked on top of each other.
And how with We Heal As One where you can transfer boons to each other, it’s probably even easier to achieve now.
A wise man once told me:
The person with the highest score is a horrible selfish person.
Person in 2nd is an amazing player.
Person in 3rd is mediocre
Person in 4th is godawful and being carried
Person in 5th sacrificed the most.
I’m 90% certain Anet just reused the HotM Christmas map from 2013 and forgot to lock the gates.
Exploiting the poorly designed league system seems rather tame when you consider on EU there is a team/players that have cheated in other actual tournaments.
You mean guys, who got their car crashed, or you mean other exploits like stowing Lightning Whip for extra heals from Signet of Restoration before it was fixed?
Good god, how far are you going to go with calling exploits on everything that’s buggy? Was it an exploit that ranger taunts were going through blocks? Should every ranger who used taunt while it was bugged be punished? Or when smokescales were hitting at 200% power? Or when vamp runes were bugged for ele downstate?
Besides, how are you supposed to differentiate between a “bug” and a “feature” certainly Anet has never bothered do, so I don’t see why you care so much.
So If 4 of us Ruby/Sapphire Division people in the guild (because we play a lot more) and qued with our Amber/Emerald guildie (because they do not play often)
is that considered match manipulation?
If not, how is that different from the top tier people when they do it?
Exploit imho.
You always can invite random Amber to your guild and act like its your friend.Wtf. At this point I have to wonder if you’re trolling or not since apparently everything is an exploit to you. It takes like 1-2 weeks depending on your playtime to get to Sapphire+. If I queue with my buddy who’s been busy with finals or something and as a result is an amber, it’s not a godkitten exploit.
It takes 2-3 days max to get to Sapphire, at this point I don’t know if you’re trolling or not.
Uhh sure. You need what, 25 pips to progress a division? That’s 25 wins unless you get those rare 2 pip games. Assuming each game averages 15 minutes including q times, that’s still around 6 hours of play per division. That’s not including when you get to emerald and can start losing pips.
You might be unfamiliar with this term, but there’s something called “a life”. It consists of things like school. Or work. Or boyfriends. Or girlfriends. Or families. It does not always include sitting around for hours of time trying to grind pips.
So yes, it does take like 1-2 weeks depending on your playtime to get to Sapphire+

It’s must be lonely at the top.
Diamond rank is rank V. Rank V for virgin?
Has anyone found a solid build that doesn’t get completely shredded by Mallyx revs? The Crusader’s build is great fun, but it melts the second you meet a Mallyx rev, and now every team I meet is running at least two.
I feel like I’m still stuck on Sentinals druid, and occasionally run Soldiers if I feel like we need more damage.
Stealth breaks it, so you could try firing a LB3 at another enemy, or blast your smokescakes smokefield. Or you could staff 3 at max range since the whole thing is an evade frame.
Since the attacks are divided when it comes to multiple people, run towards the rest of your team, or hug your pet so you don’t eat all the hits.
Honestly I’d never pop SoS for that unless I’m super low and know I’m going to die from it…

this post has given me lots of aid..
some would say, it has given me the plural of aid.
if only there was a word for that….
I’ve always wondered how we managed to jump straight into AIDs and skip HIV…
This old thread helped me out a lot when it came to sword general usage:
But yeah, I had considered Refined Toxins, I just have to ask; is the threshold manageable?
Threshold might not always be manageable for yourself, but since it applies to pets, it’s guaranteed poison on pet swap basically.
You really don’t need to break the bank for raids
Going to have to strongly disagree with this one. Raiding is hard, and it’s not for everyone. It is difficult enough to warrant having separate full ascended gear and builds for that you wouldn’t normally use. Food for dps builds can also add up as the best foods in the game are expensive, especially when you are still progressing on the raid. Raids do require extreme flexibility in what each player can play, and players with more gold and multiple ascended geared characters have a big advantage over other players. Raiding is the one place in PvE to not be cheap and every little bit helps. If you are serious about raiding, you need to be willing to spend the gold, otherwise you will be struggling to kill bosses after Vale Guardian.
I was referring to his quote about breaking the bank specifically for zealots. You don’t need full ascended zealots for raids, zerk works fine and most people should have their rangers in zerk already. And compared to other classes, gearing up a druid is positively cheap. Just crafting the ascended armor is already cheaper than any light armor due to leather prices. Food in the forms of riceballs are pretty cheap. The tuning crystals are pricey because you need to level up artificer to 450, but luckily I already had one there. Even the runes you buy are ridiculously cheap compared to the 12G strength runes other classes need.
Since a heal druid is perfectly viable for all the later bosses, one really doesn’t need to break the bank to craft alternate sets of armor.
Maybe eventually when they release more raids, he might need an alternate set of gear for vipers/sinisters, but that’s later.
Proceed to bash now. I plan to push up the leagues with the warrior to prove a point that Eurantien made to me.
…brb reworking mercy runes into my build.
jkjk <3
People put up with me when I played ranger when it (and I) was considered trash tier. It’d be hypocritical to go around demanding people to switch their builds/classes to suit me. You’ll do fine!
It’s been that way forever. It’s to prevent people from buying minis, unlocking their skins, and then throwing them in the mystic forge to make more minis and skins.
Did you unlock it in your wardrobe? Because if you did it’s gone forever.
You really don’t need to break the bank for raids.
I’m running zerk armor and clerics trinkets with the exception of a zerk backpiece. Zerk longbow, Zealots staff. Drop the clerics trinkets for more zerk, or celestial if you’re interfering with your tank. Food is riceballs and furious tuning crystals.
Everything is ascended except for my gloves which I still need to work on. Works fine for raids, got VG on farm and still banging skulls against Gorseval.
It’s a fine budget build. Didn’t have to do anything except buy clerics trinkets and transmute a staff for zealots. I didn’t even swap out runes, I’m still using cheap ranger runes.
