I have only seen 1 post, in another thread, that mentions gambling as an addiction. Gambling does stuff the brain, blah blah blah. The majority of the complaints are not that we are being preyed up, just that we feel taken advantage of. Yes, it was our choice. Yes, we made that choice. Does that change the fact that we trusted Anet to ensure that we didn’t feel screwed over that choice? No. We put real money into a Game, expecting at least a reasonable return for it. We didn’t get that return. We didn’t get any return. Just a “Thanks for your cash!”
Most of us would have been happy if anything halloween related was in the chest, instead of the standard stuff. We saved keys, we saved chests, we bought keys, we bought chests. And most of us ended up with the exact same stuff you would have gotten from the chests anyway, which is useless to most players. We assumed (yes, i know what they say about assume) there would be more available to drop in the chests beyond the new skins. There’s plenty of stuff they could have added to at least make us think we’d saved/bought those keys/chests for a reason. Instead, we got nothing, and we feel like we just got put into a cell with Bubba, and it’s lights out.
I have no problem spending money on stuff i enjoy. I buy lotto tickets, scratch tickets, play poker, blackjack. I know what i’m getting into when i gamble. I know that in casino’s the odds are stacked, scratch tickets have a 1 in XXX chance of winning, etc. We didn’t realize that Anet was gonna bend us over without the courteousy of a reach around. It was a safe assumption to make that the majority of keys would have been purchased with real money, and therefore most of the chests would have been opened using real money. And they still screwed everybody over. It’s not the weapon skins, it’s the lack of anything to do with halloween.
The people who are complaining about this are the exact demographic targeted by Anet for their cash store.
Anet kitten those people off.
If you didn’t spend $$$, then you really don’t have a say in this topic. You’re butting in to someone else’s conversation simply to tell them they’re wrong. It’s rude. And what’s worse, is that you’re not even really getting why they’re mad.
They’re not mad cause they didn’t get their rare skin. They’re mad because they don’t fell they got their money’s worth out of the product. And as the consumer, they have a right to let the company know. It’s why companies used to have comment cards. Only now, the comment cards aren’t put in a box. They’re placed where everybody can see them. Imagine if you had a complaint about mcdonalds, and the minute you made that complaint, everybody in the mcdonalds started telling you how stupid you were. Would you feel good? Would you go back and spend more money there? Does it diminish how you feel, or diminish the validity behind your complaint? No. It doesn’t.
Anet made a bad business decision. Plain and simple. When your target demographic (that’s the people you go after with your product, cause they’re the ones with the most money) feels screwed, they will go chase another product. And when there’s nobody to spend money in the shop, the shop closes. And then the product isn’t available anymore.
Trying to belittle people’s feelings and complaints about the situation doesn’t help. It certainly doesn’t foster the community spirit that Anet was trying to foster. It only make you look ignorant for not truly seeing why people are upset. Are some people mad cause they didn’t get their chainsaw? Sure. Are more people upset because all we got was the same crap that you can get any time of year? Yes. The advertising for this event was misleading at best. People have a right to be upset. You don’t have the right to belittle them.
Rules<—— That way! Read it before you decide if it’s off topic.
awesome… this thread is gonna get closed right away, because it’s not even close to on topic anymore. This is not a thread for kittening about orbs. Go to the suggestion forums, or the support forums. We all know the problems that come up in WvW, but that is not what this thread is about. Please try to keep it on topic.
Big difference between WoW and GW2:
Wow has a subscription model. Pay $15/month, get access to all content. Grind most of the good stuff.
Gw2 is a b2p game, with a gem store to subsidize. Get access to all content. Grind most of the good stuff.
By alienating the people who spent real money at the gem store (obviously happened), they will stop spending their money there. And then, no gem store to subsidize. How much content are you gonna see when they have no money?
stop complaining about the Moderators in this thread. They are Moderators, not developers or programmers. They do not fix the bugs, they moderate the forums. And this is the thread for the matchup, please keep it on topic. We’ve already had 1 thread closed down.
Great matchup thus far. We here on IoJ have fallen behind, but not out of the fight. We’ll keep bringing it, even with all the Candy flying around. Might just take us a little bit to come off the sugar high. If we’re not in T1 at the end of the week, we’ll be back soon!
Special shout out to those on JQ who helped with the glitching/exploiting Thief. Always good to see the community work together, even when we’re trying to stab each other in the faces.
People spend 100’s of dollars on BL keys and turn around and say “the people who have no issue with this because they use their daddy’s credit card”. It doesn’t matter whose money gets spent, so long as it’s not theirs I guess.
How much have I spent on this event? Zero. How much will I spend? Zero. Because I’ve played more than one MMO, I know how these systems work.
But go ahead and complain about spending 200 bucks on keys to get a cosmetic skin, which itself should highlight a problem; assuming that skins were more obtainable, no one here sees an issue with that people are ready to spend that much money in the first place?
Anyway, I’m out. Obviously the majority of the people who post here are more inclined to think that they were cheated out of their mystical cosmetic RNG obtained skin, so whatever I’m saying will fall on deaf ears.
Thank god. You feel entitled to tell us that we’re stupid for spending our money on the game (Which is what Anet wants us to do, btw. They must be stupid too.) You have provided nothing to the conversation beyond “Haha, learned your lesson i hope. Haha, stupid people spent their money on the game and expected to get something”. Anything we have written has fallen on deaf ears, because you keep coming back with the same argument, without addressing any of the points brought up in the conversation.
People assumed it would be a better chance to drop because most of us spent real money on the keys, not in game gold. Therefore, we assumed the because anet wants us to continue putting real money into the game, that they would reward us accordingly. They did not.
I did a little bit of research to shed some light on this subject. Orginally, i believed that Anet had mislead the community. According to the Fair Trade Act, they did not. Though they were close.
For those of you saying that it’s Gambling, then i suggest Anet do more research into gambling laws. In Canada, you must have the odds visible to the consumer, so they can make an informed choice. I have not seen the odds of the skins dropping anywhere. Therefore, it surely isn’t gambling. After all, Anet wouldn’t break the law right?
Seriously though, if many within the community feel cheated, then we have the right to make our complaints heard. And we should be able to do so without other people telling us that we’re stupid for spending our money. Or that we should have know, etc. Do you go stand at the customer service counter at Walmart and mock the people making a complaint about something? No, because you would get tossed out of there. Instead, you’re a keyboard warrior who likes to make themselves feel big by putting others down. If you don’t have anything to actually contribute to this conversation, GTFO! Simple as that. Your 2 cents are not wanted here.
Please refrain from telling us that we’re complaining because we’re spoiled, we’re brats, we’re noobs, etc. We are consumers. We work for our money, and when we feel we didn’t get our money’s worth, it’s our RIGHT to complain. It’s how the world works. If we don’t let Anet know we’re kitten off, they’re gonna continue to screw the people who are putting money into the game. Then no money goes into the game, and it dies a slow slow death. Which is what nobody wants, Anet especially. Alienating your customers is a sure way to ensure they will never return. Customer Service in the world today is horrible. Companies assume that because they provide the service, we should simply be happy with what they give. And that is wrong!!
Last time I give Anet any money. Bought the game for $60, bought $50 worth of gems. Spent a few of those gems buying the keys to pen the chests. After the first 10 didn’t drop anything different, i bought another 10. I got cloth shoulders that i can’t even use.
Between ripping people off (sorry, but this whole event was a huge cash grab) and being unable to address any of the issues within WvW, I am probably done with the game. The expectations of players aren’t being met, not even close. GG Anet! You lost another customer!
Seriously though, fun times in WvW this week. Even if we are losing, it’s been a blast!

Let’s get off this topic, and back to the topic at hand. The awesome battle going on in T1. Even with the outmanned buff occasionally popping it’s ugly head, this has been and still is a great fight. Let’s keep it that way.
Eventually, we’ll meet up with BG. And we’ll see what’s what.
I’m on IoJ, and we’re currently in a great matchup in T1. I am trying to coordinate everybody on the JQ BL, and it’s been crazy. Redlake was sieged by SBI, Hills was being attacked by JQ. We lost Redlake, Lowlands, but held hills. Clawed back Redlake and the camp.
So we start escorting dolyaks. And a rogue kills the dolyak i’m standing beside before he even become visible. I got maybe 3 hits on him before the dolyak died, and only because i recognized the little black swirl. Isn’t it a bit ridiculous that a dolyak dies that fast to 1 person? I don’t care if you’re all in exotics with a glass cannon build, if we can’t kill you in the 3 seconds it takes to kill the dolyak, we’re screwed. We can’t get dolyaks into the keep and tower because the dolyaks die before our defenders can even react.
Totally an exploit. Abusing an in-game mechanic. I’m pretty sure Anet never figured that 40 people would stand on 1 spot to abuse it. I would expect it to change.
Supply exploiting
Every week i see people from other servers cross-realming to use up the supply of their opponent by building siege in completely useless locations just metres from the supply depot in SMC and other difficult-to-take keeps. IOJ did it to CD this week, and ET did it the week before.
Maybe drop the accusations from this. pointing fingers weakens your argument, even though i agree with most everything you’ve said. It’s this last part i don’t agree with, mainly because i’ve never seen it happen, and i’m on IoJ.
I have leveled my thief almost exclusively in WvW. I am currently level 38, and have 222 badges. I think the secret is to not zerg. I typically run in a group of 15-20, and i’ve noticed a much higher drop rate. When i am in a zerg, the drops taper off to almost nil. I believe this is their “anti-zerg” mechanic, but since it’s never been verified, it doesn’t work.
Dolyak escort rewards are temporarily turned off. Defense rewards for camps/towers/keeps are only given if you kill an attacker or repair, as far as i know.
IoJ was never “curbstomped”. Were we in last place? Yes, but certainly never out of the game. You’re being a little over-dramatic.
Yes, we had people/guilds transfer here. Yes, they are part of the reason we are winning. Et was weakened, and we were strengthened. But that doesn’t mean it was the sole reason.
IoJ has always had an active WvW community, with some gaps in coverage. We have consistently been a t2 server, and only lost during the matchups we were placed against the t1 servers. We were an obvious choice for guilds that wanted to do well to transfer to. Not that we asked them to. Our queues are clogged to kitten right now. Regardless, our WvW achievements shouldn’t be belittled because we beat your server. Man up a little. Take the loss with a shrug, keeping pushing forward and do your best. That’s how IoJ rolled before, and we’ll continue to do so afterwards
The score is not what makes people stop wuvwuving. It’s the difficulty in trying to claw your way back onto the map after one server has held it for a long time.
Full upgrades, keeps/towers full of supplies. Waypoints. Orb bonuses. And when you log on the next day, that’s what you have to try to take back. And because there’s less interest in WvW, you will generally only have 1 server pressing 1 server.
The idea is that as 2 servers start to push against the 1 server, things will fall easier, because their zerg is split. They have to send scout groups to towers or camps. Thus, making it easier for the other 2 servers to begin getting back on the map. Unfortunately this rarely happens.
Instead, what really happens is, Server A will control the map. Server B will come try to take stuff, while server C has already given up. Server A now only has to try to hem in the vast majority of the forces from Server B, and the matchup is basically done. Even if Server B or C take something, it will simply get trebbed from the next tower/keep. And because that tower/keep is upgraded, fully stocked and sieged up, server B is screwed.
Therefore, once your server loses map control for a significant period of time, WvW becomes a one-horse show.
Isle of Janthir has always been a tier 2 team. We have maintained that position quite consistently, and have faced ET and SBI. Did we lose? Yes, we did. But we never gave up, which is why we’re still here.
I have been on Isle of Janthir since BWE3. I have leveled the vast majority within WvW, although not very much in EB. And i have always seen us push back. We may not hold the ground we take all the time, but we’re pushing back, day in and day out.
Suddenly, because TA broke up, causing HoD to plummet, and then ET has a mass exodus, of which at least 2 guilds came to IoJ. And we become the new server to pick on? How the kitten kitten kitten kitten did that happen? Because we have never been a server to give up, we became a place some guilds decided might be their best option to have some competitive matches.
The guilds that came to IoJ certainly helped us, but they are by no means the only reason we are where we are. And we are beginning to suffer on our end, as the queues have gotten out of control. I have sat in queues for 3+ hrs over the weekend, which never happened before. I would rather stay in a mid-tier grouping than this
Barkey, I was part of the Extreme Team group that took Klovan’s. I actually have a video of the whole defense, with a pretty good view from the ballista. I’m working on editing it before i put it up. ET provided us with a lot of good battles throughout the week. Just wish i could have gotten videos of them all.
It was actually a fun week. Certainly more entertaining than our last bout with Eredon Terrace. They won’t be hitting close to 500K this week. We had some great guilds move over here to help us out, and their contributions have been greatly appreciated across the server. We’ve all begun to play better together, and react more quickitteno events that pop up. I’m really proud of us here on IoJ!
It’ll be interesting to see how the landscape of wvw changes now that TA is no more. Wherever their guilds have moved to will probably become another force to contend with, which could shuffle up the upper tier matchups. Either way, i’m sure IoJ will be right up there still. Maybe not t1 (yet), but we’re getting there.
Props i can think of giving out: BP, ET, Totn, SP, ZB, ND, KD, and probably others that i can’t think of right now.
For all the trash talk, for all the bitter rivalry that seems to seethe in this grouping, we here at IoJ want to thank you. It’s been a good week of battles, and we certainly fared better this time than last. Good luck up in the Tier 1 bracket this weekend, and we’ll see you soon.
Buzz KAPOW!!!
seriously, been fun.
That screenshot doesn’t show anything. Take a look at it again. Any place on the borderlands that is supposed to be red, is Green. Not blue. IoJ only took the stuff from CD in EB.
Hi there, you might remember me from such posts as… Sorry, i’ll get to the point.
I just hit level 80 with my engineer. I levelled almost solely in WvW, first as a condition build, then to grenadier build, then to a flamethrower build. The flamethrower build is one suggested to me, and it currently uses power/precision/crit.
I am looking for a build that can utilize the Karma gear sold in Orr. The stat combinations seem a little funky to me. I have no problem playing a support type of player. The thing is, i’m not sure what stats boost what weapons. What does the Elixir gun benefit most from? What about the flamethrower? I know it probably is supposed to be straight forward, but maybe some players out there can share their experience?
Thank you to the groups of ET that let us farm them yesterday. Once, in the morning, at the southwest supply, we put up our ballista/trebs/arrow carts. And then later at night, in Shadaran Hills. How did you zerg feel after getting roflstomped by a handful of players in the lords room?! Seriously though, it was good fighting. And lots of loot bags for us.
Ok, there is no way IoJ has any alliance with any other server. Last night in ET’s Borderland, my guild of ~15 took Shadaran Hills. Instead of pushing ET, CD had a small group come try to take it from us. Of course they were repelled from the side. Shortly after, CD showed up again at our south gate. While we were fighting them there, a large group of ET showed up to take us on as well. Rather than fight at 2 fronts, we retreated to the inner keep to setup our final stand. We held 3 pushes by ET, with a little help from another guild (Thank you, AoJ). After one of the pushes, we came out to clear the remaining ET. What did we see beside us? A big group of CD that had come in the same way. They ran. No fight from them at all.
You guys were inside our keep, right on the heels of ET. Don’t claim there’s some alliance going on. We push ET at every chance. ET has been our target since the matchup started. The amount of times we’ve raged on vent about how stupid CD is for attacking us instead of trying to push ET. We even started to simply jump around CD players, trying to get a point across. We’re not trying to fight you, but we will if you force us to.
This matchup has actually been really good. IoJ definitely lacks the people during the morning, which is where we lose our ground. But we have tried to push ET as hard as they’ve pushed us. ET would not have a such a huge lead if CD had any presence on the map, and i understand the frustration that comes when people give up. But don’t let that discourage you. Same thing happened to IoJ the last time we played ET. This time, i don’t see it happening though.
I have leveled my engineer basically from level 5 to level 71 (my current level) strictly in WvW. I don’t know where everybody is complaining about money. I drop siege, i upgrade stuff. I die, a lot. I have always had more than enough money. Level 40, needed 1 gold for my book? Had it, plus more. Dropped the more on Siege. Level 60, needed 2 gold? No problem. I still have lots. Even after upgrading my gear every 5-10 levels (depending on how fast my level is going up), dropping siege, repairs, books, upgrades, etc. I still have some 3 or 4 gold, and almost nothing left to buy until 80. And i’m hoping the 112K karma i’ve stocked up will help lower the costs at 80.
If you’re losing money in WvW, you’re doing something wrong.
I originally thought they were both coming for us at EH cause we had the orb. Now that ET has the orb, they’re still both on us. CD is scared to attack ET, and they know we’re softened up from being hit on both sides. IoJ will prevail!!
Yeah, this just happened again on our server matchup. CD pushed into the lords room, and broke the altar before any loaded up. As i said before, not a computer issue. The orb is now gonna reset, and it was done before any of us could even see them. This needs to be fixed, and quick.
Not all of IoJ is so confident. We’re doing well though, considering. Here’s a shot of us in EH, withstanding the assault of both opposing servers.
No animosity towards CD. If they want to attack us, that’s fine. We’re holding off ET and CD for now. It would just be in CD’s best interest to start putting pressure on ET.
can you read? how do you assume i’m from ET? I’m from IoJ and we’re the ones getting double teamed
hahahahaha. CD is now trebbing Etheron, while ET is trying to take all our stuff down south. Always feels good to get ganged up on, since that tells you that you must be awesome.
Actually, Iokittenaking progress this morning. CD is losing ground. ET is staying about the same.
edit: here’s the picture of updated scores. If you look at PPT, we’re clawing our way back.
(edited by buzzkapow.8465)
It’s definitely not hardware issues. I experienced it last night for the first time, when we tried to grab the orb. We got it about halfway back to the Hills when we got hit bye ET’s zerg. Nothing showed up until our entire group was dead. And i have a brand new computer. I have yet to come across anything that makes it slow down or have any problems. Even with the culling, nothing spikes on it.
Stop taking on IoJ. Start concentrating on ET. we’ve tried to ensure that this is happening on our side.
