There’s a chance the player leveled when he was down? It’s happened to me, you get credit for taking a keep you just left, or something like that, and bam! You level, full health and up. It’s great! Probably not so great for the guy you’re fighting.
Wow. I feel bad for you guys on SoS. I’m on IoJ, and when i read this post, my first thought was “Holy crap! They go inside hills?!” We had that place defended really well the last time i logged on!
SoS has been a great opponent, and it’s sad to see their guilds not working together like that. IoJ guilds all seem to be willing to put aside any differences (if there are any?!) for the greater good. The only thing that bugs me is the new guilds that hopped over yesterday, after we were winning.
GL to SoS. I hope crap like this gets sorted and we can have plenty more epic battles!
I have nothing against ET, they played a good game this week. I have problems with Ruin, and only with Ruin. That said, would i like to see HoD smack ET upside the head real bad? Yes, but only because ET spanked us (IoJ) this week, and every good turn deserves another. And Ruin is there. Smack em good. GL to the rest of ET though!
Instead, start simple. Something like “I’m going to protect this bush”. Then celebrate excessively when you succeed. Work your way up until you figure out what your server’s limits are, then work within those limits.

IoJ taking the fight to our enemies this week.
Ruin figured out how to get up to where SoS had their “exploiting” trebs up. Used the mesmer to teleport everybody up there, and proceeded to treb the spawn area.
While i’m sure there may be ways to get your mesmer portal up there legitimately, i’m not convinced. But really, either way they’ll get what’s coming to them. Whether that’s what other players would like or not, is up to Anet.

Actually, i have no idea what the population is like on my server, but i imagine we’re high/full. And there are many times, even in Prime Time, when not all the maps have queues.
I know precisely what i’m talking about. ArenaNet’s answer is the only answer players will accept. If you want something else done, they could always force population balances across all servers, so that queue times and such were the same across the board. But then, the players would be crying foul.
so in short, “And eat it too!”
The players put themselves into this position. Whether you intentionally went to a server with a large WvW community so you could “win”, or if you just happen to be there. ArenaNet has given you a way to get out. Don’t expect them to start giving you more maps or more people per map. Everybody would continue to flock to the top ranked servers and just play on the bigger/new maps.
Don’t like the solution Anet has given you? Don’t complain. That’s what the rest of us have been told when we give our 2 cents about trying to even things out
the issue isn’t “We want more players in our maps, or more maps” the problem is “I have queues, and don’t want them…. tear”
Anet has already said if you don’t want to be in a queue for WvWvW, transfer to a server without queue times!! Not Low Pop, Low Queue Times!!
And seriously, it’s QUEUES, not QUES. That will be all.
I was just stating that, Instead of having extra servers/maps for servers that have high queues, Anet has told you to move servers. I agree, Anet needs to stop the transfers to the servers that have high queues. Eventually, everybody who transferred to HoD/SBI/SQ/ET will get sick of waiting in queue for 2 hours and transfer off.
Instaqueues? yeah right. Tell yourself you what you need, we know you don’t have instaqueues over there. That’s just what happens when we can get the people together, and Ruin took all the baddies away for us.
Go look at my original post. It does not mention anything about any horribad guild on ET. Was just commenting on the sad state of the WvW on ET. When you’re so bored you camp a door nobody come out of….
The solution is right in front of you. There are servers without queues. Move to those one if you don’t like sitting in queue. Until every server has a queue full-tim, or close to, don’t expect Anet to change that.
Transferring to the enemy server to spy, prevent use of siege equipment, etc.

I thought this thread was supposed to die. Let it die, let Anet deal with it how they will. Don’t bother complaining anymore. ET is not Ruin. Ruin is not ET. They are riding the coattails of better guilds/alliances. Let them be the hanger-ons who are desperate to win.
As has been stated, the community of IoJ is coming together to work hard against ET. Great job so far tonite, on their Borderland too!
its all about DILIGENCE! We may have just had servers that did not know the week long matches were starting. They might have just screwed up and lost there footing but either way; its the way it goes.
If you dont make an effort you cant win and with the current standing on wvw buffs you either have guys on watch 24/7 or you have people asleep 24/7 cause its a steep slope; if you let it go to long the buffs will keep you beaten.
Next week will give us all a look into how things are going these poor servers that are winning in these blow out matches are taking in the bads from each other servers and its going to kill there ability to play.
On ET we are about to go back into the top bracked and over the past 3 days ques have been 2-3 hours from 30 min. Our server is in a bad state atm with the play style used by ruin that is recruiting from the losing servers we are geting a higher % of bads than we would normaly. The first thing they say when they enter the map is where is the zerg.

I feel sorry for you. Ruin is slowly recruiting a lot of the baddies on IoJ away. I know they took some of our good players, but the community is coming together more and more. I have to think that’s because it’s less diluted with the zerg mentality people now.
This will never mimic real war. As it stands, you are basically being punished for using the wall for siege equipment. In real medieval siege, being on a wall is of the utmost importance. You can shoot the guys standing at the base of the wall, your arrows will fly father, etc.
In GW2, you will get aoe’d. So, currently, the “best” defenses have become putting your siege inside your walls, aimed at chokepoint they have to come through. In order to shoot from the walls, at somebody at the bottom of the wall, you have to walk wayyyy out to the edge. And then get pulled down, or just straight up killed. The enemy sieging the towers/keeps currently have the upperhand, assuming all else is equal.
Ok, since threads have been locked down over in the other forums, where and how do we report players for match manipulation through server transfers? I’m pretty sure that at this point, Anet is already completely aware of the problem, since the forums are full of the posts. But there is no single place in game to report somebody and give an explanation. There is no place to choose “Match manipulation” when you report someone.
That have a queue during their “night-time”? or is it all pretty much queue free at night on the NA servers?
Everybody who seems to have a problem with nightcapping seems to think there are some servers with huge queues and then servers with none. Because we have no real information on queues, nobody can really complain. Maybe even HoD or VS have no queues at night?

Kracin, you cannot disprove anything. There are plenty of screenshots proving that Archaos is crossing a line that was not intended to be crossed. The antics of Ruin are well known and documented.
On that note, I was the one who started the other “Ruin, Stay on your own server” post yesterday. It is now gone, and i don’t think it’s worth it to start another one…. Thankfully somebody else did.
What Ruin does/did is despicable. It undermines the very “spirit” of the game. You want to remain competitive, yet in order to achieve that, you are more than willing to poach the players from the server you are currently up against. And no, he was not there to just recruit Oceanics. He was there to recruit anybody who wanted to go. Clearly, the exact opposite of what Anet wants done with the free transfers. Whether it’s against TOS or a Bannable offense, doesn’t matter. Your leader is trash, which unfortunately makes the rest of the sheep who follow him Trash.

I was there only to take the screenshot. I noticed the little swords icon on my minimap, so i thought i would go check.
We did group up and kill them, but really? Any time we do mount any sort of offense, we are met with a force at least twice our number to crush us. And you need to spawn camp us, even at this spot? Boredom is getting to you. Maybe, instead of wasting your time spawn camping, some of you could move servers and you could fight each other! That would solve 2 problems!
I love how he says that they are doing week long matchups to get more data, but the data is so skewed with all the free transfers.
I’m on IoJ atm. We don’t normally get crushed, but we’re up against ET this week.
Let’s say something of a support build. Elixir gun/elixir build, but what else do i use? P/S, P/P or Rifle? Utility skills to enhance the build?

We couldn’t even push through Dreadfall. Nobody is really listening. There’s far too many corporals who think they’re generals.
And the IoJ team seems to think that helping SoS defend Shadaran, by attacking ET from the back, is a bad idea. Sorry SoS. some of us are tying to help
we’re trying here on IoJ to help as much as we can. I just don’t think that between SoS and IoJ we have the numbers to compete against what ET. They always seem to outnumber us by a huge amount.
Hello Engineer Community!
I am looking at switching over to an Engineer main. I play mostly in WvW, albeit on a server that is getting crushed. Because we’re getting crushed, and because it’s what i like to do, I defend.
I was wondering if you wonderful people out there have any advice on specs or weapon/kit choices to help facilitate an easier defense? If there are some handy specs to help, do you happen to know a link to one?
I have googled the engineer in an attempt to find something, but couldn’t find much that explained how the builds work, pros and cons, etc.

We got our people on. Primetime! Yay! Isle of Janthir controls the south half of SoS, mostly letting SoS have the north. Yes we had a few dumb people attack SoS, but for the most part, we were leaving them alone.
We get rushed by a group of 30-40 ET members, who pushed us back to greenbriar. They all stood in 1 spot, practically on top of each other, so they could stack the retaliation buff and drop our defenses.
what the hell are we supposed to do about that? We don’t have the numbers to break a 40 person zerg. How the hell do they have a 40 person zerg when their remaining keep is also being attacked from the north?!
so don’t give us a handicap. Give us a proper population ratio cap, and let the skill/organization decide the battles. Not who has the most players on at night.
For all these Alliances and Large WvW guilds, if Anet made it so your guild perks all stayed when you transferred, would you? To keep things competitive amongst the servers, and keeping things fun for you every week instead of every other week? Or are you all happy that 1 of you is going to have a boring-as-hell week every other?
edit: Not talking to any specific server/alliance/guild. Just wondering what the general concensus is
If so many people on the winning servers are finding it boring, because there’s nothing do , why aren’t they transferring to the losing servers to have some fun?
If 70 percent of your guild is sitting in a queue you have no one to blame but yourselves. There are plenty of servers with no queue and server transfers are free. Instead of running with the zerg find a server that has little or no queue during the time period your guild is active and move there.

I think the fact that there has been no response from Anet thus far, with the situation as it is on so many servers, is what concerns people. Up until now, Anet has been topnotch when it comes to informing their players.
So sad. There is maybe 3 people from IoJ on this borderland, besides myself. we can’t leave our spawn without meeting a much larger zerg waiting for us at the exits. The snowball effect is terrible. Now that they control everything, they have an easy time upgrading the towers/keeps/camps. Now that the t/k/c are harder to take, less people come in. Less people coming in, less for the enemy to do. Less for the enemy to do, the more they camp our spawns. And yet they still refuse to acknowledge that there is a problem…
The situation on SoS/IoJ/ET is getting worse and worse. I’ve never seen a map this empty of allies, and so full of enemies. What the heck is ET doing with nobody to attack? It would explain why i just got zerged at our supply camp and stomped by 15+ guys.
we finally got the keep outside our spawn. We had people running supplies for the siege engines we were putting up. We got zerged immediately. They stood in the circle of fire for the arrow carts and used retaliation to bring them down. Our 10 defenders had nothing on the 20-30 people outside. When your anti-zerg siege equipment dies because you’re shooting the zerg, there’s a problem.
Give us Server specific Forums, where your character is locked to the forums of the server you were on when the reset happened!
This would allow us to have communication between members of our Server, without having spies from other servers coming in to figure out any communication.
Emnel, you don’t seem to grasp where people are having the issue. Many servers get coordinated, take stuff back, spend the day upgrading and defending them. They go to sleep, and every single thing they did is gone. The fact that there are 2hr queues on some servers that dominate, while others can barely field more than a handful of groups shows that Anet needs to have some type of balance check in place. This is a game. Not War. A game. Games have rules and such to ensure fair and equal play, thus making a game enjoyable. When the rules don’t cover fair and equal play, there is no fun, and it is no longer a game.
p.s. Perhaps if you worked on your english a little more, it would be easier to understand the points you’re trying to make. Not making fun of you, just making an observation.
People think WvW needs to be fixed, because the matches are broken. This was not intended to be a one-sided affair. If it was, they wouldn’t have 2 week matches. These were supposed to be battles of Epic Proportions!!!! And it’s not so much. I’m currently watching the IoJ zerg run out of our spawn, straight into the ET spawn campers, over and over. I’ve tried to tell them go around the side, dont’ give them a reason to camp our spawn. They do it over and over. Not because they don’t understand it’s stupid, but because what else are we supposed to do?
We go attack something, it gets reinforced by a group twice our size before we can do anything. This is because of 1 problem. Lack of numbers. This is because once people see that it’s almost hopeless to start pushing back, nobody queues. Those who do queue up, generally aren’t there to make a difference. They just want some XP and to kill stuff. So they run out the spawn.
WvWvW was marketed as a game for the “casual” gamer. Where you could hop in as a single person, or small group, and go do something in the map that makes a difference. That’s not what is happening. Population imbalances are starting to push people out of WvW. The desire for the casuals, or us “semi-casuals”, is dying. Not because we’re not good at it, we can’t do anything, etc. It’s because what we have done is undone so quickly, and there’s no way for us to reverse that. It’s an endless spiral down as the other server swallows territory, the losing servers lose people.
Eventually, it will be the top 3 servers who have any sort of WvW going on, because that’s where everybody wants to be. All the other servers will slowly give up on the game mode because the fun is being killed in it. I love the concept, but without a balance mechanism in there to help the losing server, it’s just going to die.
to OP, i really like the idea of donating towards and upgrade. That would prevent a single person from having to pump 3-4g into upgrading a keep by themselves.
Ok, so everybody knows there are some balance issues within the current ranking system that have given some servers huge advantages. That’s not really up for argument anymore.
The most pressing issue seems to be the “night capping”. It’s difficult to say how many match ups are currently experiencing this, but there are at least a few. The idea behind this is that some servers have a 24 hr presence on WvW, which greatly outnumbers at least 1 of the servers with which they’re matched. This often causes a huge swing in map control overnight, causing morale to drop drastically on the servers that lost everything.
The most obvious solution to this is to switch servers. It’s free, and you can do it as many times as you like. But this also compounds the issue, with people transferring to the “higher” ranked servers so they can be part of the “winning” team. Not really a solution.
The other solution is try to recruit more “off-peak” players. So for those of us on US servers, recruit EU/Aus players/guilds to fill your night-time with active players. Sounds simple, right? Not really… We have an Aussie presence here on IoJ. From what i understand, there is even an alliance between them to help with the WvW. I don’t know what goes on at night, as i’m sleeping, but our Aussie presence hasn’t really helped us much. Maybe we just don’t have enough? Not really sure. We’d need somebody who’s on at night to let us know. But, it’s hard to try to recruit players to a server that is constantly losing at night. Especially when you’re tying to recruit players to come in and get slaughtered at night.
Here’s the only solution I can see that will actually work. Population Caps. Hold on, stop slamming your fingers into keyboard, and continue reading before you tell me i’m wrong. I will try to highlight my points quickly and concisely if i can.
1. This is a game. In order for a game to work, there needs to be constant balance. Period. Otherwise it is not a game. Population balance is controlled in every game. Sports, board games, and yes.. video games. In order to achieve balance in gameplay, you need to ensure that all sides are on equal footing. By simply stating “You can recruit off-peak players too”, you show you have no concept of what a “game” is supposed to be. Show me one successful game that has no population control amongst its competitive side. Shooters have it (8-12 per side), RTS have it (200 max supply), sports games have it (5v5 for hockey/basketball).
2. This is not war. It is a War Simulation Game at best. You want to say it’s War? Go join the army. Learn to shoot a gun. Go to drill practice, PT, Tactics classes, etc. This is not war. It will use war-like tactics, but it is still a game. See point 1.
3. If Anet knew that WvW was going to be a 24hrs a day, why did they split servers up between NA and EU? The smart thing to do would have been to have no distinction between them.
4. Queues don’t deter people. Obviously, having 2hr+ queues hasn’t deterred anybody from waiting on the top servers. Once again, i’m not on at night, or on any of the top servers, so it’s difficult for me to say. But, i would think that if there are huge population imbalances at night, it’s because more people are getting into the maps on one side, while there are no enough to even have close to a balance on the others. Maybe if only part of the “night group” could get in, the larger “groups/Guilds” waiting to get all their people in will move to different servers so they can actually play together.
I’m not saying “Go make Population ratio Caps now!!!”. I’m trying to get a constructive
brainstorming session with those who want WvW to succeed. Please, don’t come on and say “We got 15 guild together and we’re not moving!” That’s not helping the situation. We’re really glad you are happy with the situation. You won’t be so happy in a month or two when WvW is a niche thing, where you’ll be fighting the same 2 servers week in and week out with 5+ hr queues at all times during the day.
As the player population, we are just as at fault over this issue as Anet is. It’s unfair to expect the large guilds or alliance to move servers, just because the coattail riders showed up on their server. But, it’s also up to us to help fix the problem.
I find this happens a lot. I’ve heard that in order to get the XP for the defense, you have to kill or repair. Yet i will pick up all kinds of bags from behind my siege, and never see any xp for the defense. I used to think it was because we hadn’t actually repelled them, since the assault was still ongoing. But then, sometimes it does give xp. Seems broken to me.
