Scanning memory and modifying the client. I’m guessing it’s very much ban worthy if you get caught using it.

Gaile has said they are not against modding as long as it doesn’t give the player an advantage. The question is whether or not ArenaNet considers this an advantage, which from current evidence would seem they do not since you can get the same effect by having a three-monitor setup.

End game is 20 minutes of spamming “2” in a turret Most exciting boss fight ever.

End game is what you make of it. If you want to spam “2”, great.

Sadly, it’s not. The final boss you literally have only one way to hit him and that’s to use a turret that only has three abilities: move left, fire, and move right. And the boss never moves so you only use fire. repeatedly. For 20 minutes.

Just want to say Thank you to Arenanet. By not giving us free excotics/epics/whatever, your making people work for their gear. By not having high quality items rain out of the sky for every crybaby thats playing gw2, your letting people that leveled crafting to 400 benefit from having done it.

Thank you, arenanet, for not babying me with free gear. I love you guys.

Doing the entire personal story is a hell of a lot more work than leveling a crafting profession to 400.

Considering the difficulty of some personal story quests, I’d agree. Crafting is just grinding, personal story quests will kill you several times, hell, it might kill you so much that you have to quit them to repair and come back later.

Not to mention finishing in a dungeon.

It’s not a silver platter.

It’s equivalent to the work required to get max stat greens at the end of GW1 campaigns at least.

If you’ve got a lot of gold, you can actually completely level a crafting profession in about 30 minutes without ever leaving the city.

Not challenging or difficult... Simply annoying.

Seems simple to me – they wouldn’t be able to put a cash shop on PTR. Time spent in-game is time building up the desire to purchase something on the cash shop to as they say, “enhance your gaming experience”.

Counterpoint: Time spent on PTR is time not spent on the production server. Time not spent on the production server causes you to fall behind. Falling behind makes you want to buy gold with gems.

Anti mesmer tactics?

Their downed skill is trivial to combat once you understand that the real mesmer always appears after the clone

That is, of course, assuming they both appear within your line of sight. The mesmer teleport can go around corners or over hills or sometimes even through walls. The one that shows up where you downed them will usually be a clone, but the real one can be somewhere you can’t even get to easily if you’re real unlucky.

ye this right here…. their down stealth can be up faster than ours and has a pretty big range (at least it looks like it does)

It does have a fairly large maximum range. While using it, my mesmer has teleported far enough that ranged attacks can’t hit from my original location. The distance and location are random, however, so you don’t know where you’re going to end up any more than the enemy does.

not sure where you guys are getting this information that condition damage is bad.. D/D stack conditions like crazy in pvp, and if they pop a condition removal.. guess what you you just stack them again, and stealth and watch the bleed out….

It’s not bad, it’s just not as good. Even with a condition-heavy build, +crit damage is a better stat than +condition damage.

Yes, they could have. And they really should have. If they had done that I wouldn’t even care about third party programs. But without a higher FoV, the game makes me dizzy if I don’t take frequent breaks, so it’s hard to get larger events done. You can actually get a whopping 180 FOV by hooking up two extra monitors, THIS is a feature built into the game. But I don’t have two extra monitors available, so I’m considering this software alternative, which would actually be not as useful as the three-monitor setup, but still better than nothing.

Interesting. Looks like there’s a bug here somewhere. Either a bug that it is working from those specific angles, or a bug that it doesn’t work from any other angle. They never mentioned the nerf when it happened and ignore any questions about it, so it could go either way.

costing 6 initiative is still by far the smallest cooldown in the game.

It can be, but keep in mind that that is taking out of a resource pool used by all of our weapon skills. It’s not an isolated cooldown like other classes have. This is something a lot of non-thieves keep forgetting.

There is a tool going around that lets the user adjust FOV in GW2. I know that the devs cannot vet and approve specific mods because of support and malware issues, but could we get an official comment on whether this type of modification would be considered a prohibited activity or not? For further information, it seems to scan memory for the address that deals with FoV and modifies that value in running memory. Sort of like a trainer, but all it does is change FoV, not provide any sort of advantage or automation.

It’s not a bug. Other classes have instant abilities that can be cast while channeling other skills too, such as the mesmer’s “Feedback” spell.

Anyway, your example with the 14k backstab: Your engineer buddy there was likely using his quickness spell, which can randomly cause one of three negative effects from other classes’ quickness spells. One of those is the warrior’s “take 50% more damage”. This is even more devastating on the engineer than on the warrior because of being in leather armor.

Yes you are correct I didn’t depend on pressing 1 and 2 all game. I actually require to use more then 2 skills to take on people.

Cool? That’s true of all classes, except against perma-bads.

As I was saying MESMERS can’t use attack skills on a person they can not target.

And other classes waste cooldowns or initiative when their target automatically switches to a clone, or, as you pointed out, kill themselves against mesmer glamour. It’s funny how things work out in a bigger picture. Aha, see what I did there? How I used your thread title? Brilliant.

That leaves me with what? Aoes? Which for one don’t do much but add a few boons on a character.

Yeah you’re right, it’s not like you have AoEs available that can cripple enemies, gain swiftness for allies, pushback enemies, do pretty decent damage, confuse enemies, cause random conditions, cause blinding and burning, even grant yourself and your allies stealth. And it’s not like you have abilities that teleport you wherever you want or block incoming attacks.

Yea, kinda fail because the bright and intelligent designers added a positional on a staple ability for a class with very limited stealth even when specced for it. So unless the target has their back to you when you steal+CnD, you still gotta move around them, and if they move at any time, or if they dodge, or if there are a ton of partical effects flying around so you cant tell front/back.. you are porked

I’m fine with all of this except for the particle effects. For kitten’s sake, let me turn those off.

As for any other classes, I’ve walked away from 3v1 battles simply playing cripple clone warfare.

There hasn’t been an Elementalist EVER that’s managed to not get killed by their own attacks from me. Difference from a thief and Elementalist is I can target an Elementalist at anytime. I just throw a Feedback on them and watch them kill themselves with their own skills. Only time I see Elementalist even useful is spamming fire on a tower that’s about the cap to their usefulness around me.

It sounds like what you’re really saying is that mesmer is OP against everything but thief so nerf thief.

Stealth: Attacking consistently while totally 100% stealth....?

in Thief

bwillb.2165

Eliteseraph,
I suggest you go and check your facts on that. In PvE – which you likely are more used to then sure, this issue is a non-factor. In WvW where the rendering of a player instantly is pretty much never happening – especially under high load the ability of a thief increases tenfold.
Thiefs are able to get off at least 3 skills before they become fully visible, even to tabbing (not just visually but to your client) this has all been tested and confirmed countless times from many people who understand a thief far better than you I am sure.
There is nothing an individual can do to counter/fix this issue due to the mechanical nature of it, so in essence it is the fault of stealth that this is occuring because it is mechanically broken within the system right now due to the culling/rendering problem the client/engine has.
Do some more research before you go berating people for not knowing what they are talking about when you show the same lack of knowledge.

And an entire zerg can roflstomp a defensive position before they’re visible, even without any sort of thief or mesmer to stealth them in the first place. It’s an issue that affects everything, and I think we can all agree that it needs to be fixed, no need to even argue about that one. Heck it’s even a pain in PvE. I logged on right outside Arah last night and the defend Arah event was happening but I couldn’t see any enemies or any friendly players. went down and got back up twice before everything loaded.

No, you can still infiltrator arrow up and down ledges that you can’t shadow step (and that mesmers can’t blink, and elementalists can’t Lightning Flash. Though Necromancers can Necrotic Transversal them last I checked.)

Show me a current video of this happening. It has not exhibited this behavior anywhere I’ve tried since BWE1. Even the clock tower in Battle For Khylo where this feature was first discovered doesn’t work. All it does is shadowstep you to the location on your current plane closest to your target.

It really should be a no-siege area. There’s already plenty of controllable traps down there that can instant-kill if you want to screw someone over. All you’re doing is wasting supply for your team that could go towards defending something that actually benefits the server.

Here’s the option in WoW: http://i.imgur.com/aU3Kfh.jpg

Now, here’s a situation I find myself in all too often as an Asura: I want to look up. So, I’m looking straight ahead… In GW2, when I start to look up, the camera would zoom in uncontrollably as soon as it clips with the ground. But with this option, the camera pivots at the point it touched the ground, without zooming. I can look straight up without having to worry about my zoom or viewpoint changing drastically. And look at that, I can see straight up with no half-rendered extremely-zoomed-in character in the way.

Ehh I’ve never been a huge fan of RFI with this type of build. It takes you out of melee range which is great if you want to get out of melee range, but not so great when you’ve got a cloud of smoke protecting you and you want to land a backstab. If you go 15 points into critical strikes, you shouldn’t have too much issue with initiative if you’re efficient about black powder usage. Really a lot of the times you can just keep black powder up and auto-attack things to death.

The main selling point of pistols in PvE is blind, but most dungeon bosses only suffer 10% effectiveness of blind. It’s great for just doing hearts and random crap though. I personally loved D/P for most of my leveling experience. You have the black powder blind, which can combo with heartseeker for a stealth, which can lead into a backstab. If you time your heartseeker right as black powder is about to fade you can have really good survival efficiency. For this type of play I would usually take hide in shadows, shadow refuge, signet of shadows, and either shadowstep or ambush depending on how far apart targets are. For traits I went a few into acrobatics for the extra dodge rolls, and heavy into critical strikes for initiative return and damage.

Stealth: Attacking consistently while totally 100% stealth....?

in Thief

Posted by: bwillb.2165

bwillb.2165

A devastating backstab is harder to set up properly than pretty much any other single skill on any class. It’s not “a simple keystroke”, it’s getting stealth, buffing up with signets and dodge-might, getting proper positioning behind the target, and hoping the target doesn’t move an inch or blind you when you go for the attack. One wrong move and you’re revealed and fairly defenseless for 3 seconds since you just wasted all of your utility skills, half your initiative, and have the 3 second reveled debuff, plus all of your traits are stacked towards that perfect backstab.

Now there may be an exploit going around where thieves can go into stealth again without the revealed buff, but I’ve never seen that and don’t know how it would be done. And if there is, that wouldn’t be a balance issue, it would be a bug to be fixed.

-Attacking a stealth player, should still display the damage in the area that the stealth player was hit in.

This I agree with, that would be perfectly fair.

How would this be fair? If you’re in stealth with Burning Poison or Bleeding on you (which are all extremely common), you might as well be visible.

There’s more to stealth than just being hidden. You’ve got stealth attacks that you’d still be able to use and traits that work in stealth, such as regenerating health. But perhaps make it only work on direct damage hits, not condition damage. Or maybe add a skill where we can create a fake bleeding target to hide our true position…

Why do we have such weak downed skills?

in Warrior

Posted by: bwillb.2165

bwillb.2165

I’m not sure why you think the thief one is so great… 1 skill is lower damage than warrior’s. The teleport is better than a single target knockdown, yes, but just barely. All you have to do is interrupt your finisher animation and go finish in the new location. Thief’s healthpool is low enough that you don’t even have to use a finisher, just keep attacking and they’re dead before the stealth is available.

You’re right about mesmer’s though. Theirs is awesome. about the same direct damage as anyone else but it adds confusion. their two skill is the thief’s 2 and 3 skills in one plus a free clone. and the 3 skill does significant damage.

A thief can delay a bit, but not much if you’re paying attention. A warrior can possibly take someone out, but it’s fatal to do so. A mesmer, they actually have a chance of a rally.

It should when they attack, and it does. However there is currently a player culling bug that delays visibility, and it is already known and being worked on.

-Stealth players should have a chance to lose stealth when taking damage while stealth.

No, they shouldn’t. Mesmers don’t lose their phantasms when taking damage. Engineers don’t lose their kit when taking damage. Warriors don’t lose their adrenaline when taking damage… shall I continue?
