It’s probably the best option for thief pvp, but that’s not saying much.

It’s really good for leveling and map completion, better than pretty much any other class, I guess that’s something.

I’ve been having some trouble with thieves on my alts lately. Mostly because I’ve been having kitten ping and lots of packet loss lately.

Thief is a bit of a tank role. They soak up all the nerf hits so other classes can be safe.

They’re pretty bad. No cleave, no pierce, you can’t even make bullets bounce anymore. And the single-target isn’t nearly strong enough to make up for that.

I can see why anet disabled loot from monster kills…i mean..otherwise there would be some vines that players would “lock” and harvest the endless waves of monsters that spawn.

Finding endless waves of mordrem to farm in the silverwastes isn’t exactly hard.

What I would have preferred for rewards is to have each individual event on the map give personal reward based on bronze-silver-gold participation. Then at the end of the 30 minutes give everyone on the map that’s participated a certain amount (say 10 points, with bronze offering 1 silver offering 3 and gold offering 5) a bonus based on how many events were completed in total map-wide.

I wouldn’t care that much about the reward if the event itself was more interesting. I thought for sure it would be something cool when I went on the website and saw the story about the Mordrem Guard. But then I get in game and it’s the exact same enemies we’ve been farming for months, with some very basic mechanics that we’ve seen elsewhere in the game. It’s not special, it’s just… there. Just an excuse to give rewards, but then you don’t really give those very well either.

I missed a lot of the event content in this game , but I think back to various holiday events in GW1 and early GW2, to the events at the end of the Beta Weekends a few years ago… Then I look at this. I don’t know where the event team took a turn, but good lord did they ever.

I’ve been getting this as well, going from 40-60fps down to about 10. When it happens it also seems to get stuck playing whatever sound was playing when it started, most new positional sounds don’t work. Also noticed that my GPU temp drops down to about 50c when it happens (about 80c under normal heavy game load)

Yes that would be so great! I don’t think it will happen but I wish it would. I also like to remake things.

I’ll probably end up remaking the character anyway, since the gifts haven’t been THAT huge of a deal, but then they’ll come out with something amazing next year and I’ll regret it :p

I tried a f2p account to see what it was like for new players, and I gotta say the trading post restriction is really confusing. First it says you need Heart of Thorns to sell certain things. Then below that it says your account has to be activated. Then after that it says the feature will unlock in 4 days. Does this mean that the other requirements are removed in 4 days?

edit: Also the things you can and can’t sell seem really arbitrary. I was able to sell an unidentified dye but not a common identified dye.

Yeah it’s kind of a sad state of affairs. Especially the whole “a bunch of effects means you can’t see kitten” problem. I’ve asked about it and complained about it in many forms but nothing’s changed.

I think it would be ridiculous to claim otherwise. Before the game launched, back in beta, there was almost a consensus that thieves were an underpowered class. It’s received almost nothing but nerfs since. It still offers a pretty brutal punishment against new or unskilled players. But outside of that situation, the thief is a weak class. Hell, the one time a dev was seen playing a thief they died instantly XD

If you want to earn as much gold as the rest of the players that you see, then pick up your lazy kitten and work for it!

If work is required, then it isn’t a game. It’s just another job.

If work is not required, then there would no such thing as gold or gems or loot and everybody would just be handed out the same stuff from ArenaNet.

There are plenty of activities in the game that could be more rewarding but are not because omg ppl shud werk fur gaem lut!!! The dichotomy you’re drawing of the only options being slave labor grinding for upgrades or everything given for free when you start is a false one.

Yes, some of the maps were changed to accommodate Living Story events. That area in Lornar’s Pass hosted a multi-path tower defense battle.

I’ve only had one interaction with TTS. They filled up the instance I was in for the wurm, and then all ported out at the last minute to get with a couple of their friends, leaving my instance almost empty right as the wurm was about to start.

Hmm I think that the explosion will create a mystic black hole that will suck in every single piece of equipment and crafting material still left in the world. Even the ones we have in ours banks and the ones we are wearing. After that it will spit out one Major Rune of Rage and disappear.

Then maybe they’ll scrap the whole system and return to Guild Wars 1 roots for itemization.

If we look back at GW1, the build diversity is based on the number of available skills.

Actually it’s based on the number of viable and synergistic skills. There are a lot of skills that pretty much never showed up in a successful build. There are also a lot of skills which were identical to others, and so the build was no different no matter which one you took.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have more weapons available on thief (particularly offhand sword, a sniper rifle, and a viable unarmed or fist weapon option). However, I don’t think it’s a balance issue…. rather, it’s a content issue.

If they think that there is favoritism towards thieves, the one class that has been nerfed by community request nearly every single patch, which has had nearly no buffs to offset these nerfs… They are clearly not pro or reasonable. The pros are the ones who continue rocking thief despite hundreds of nerfs.

If you re-read what you wrote again, you might just end up agreeing with more Thief nerfs. :P

Wait, what? Warriors are the most mobile class there is… Between multiple leaps and charges and a low cooldown snare removal and swiftness buff on the warhorn, they’re more mobile than thieves. And with a sword they can root their targets better than thieves.

two of the most ‘famous’ pro players (highly regarded as civilized, open minded and reasonable man) quit their mesmer class in a rather ‘ragey’ way over their channels and rerolled to thieves due to the amount of unbalances and apparent favoritisim towards certain classes such as warriors and thieves. They are now rolling thieves themselves.

I’m with you there. I’ve got Duelist shoulders, but the rest is pirate. All dyed nice shades of pimping purple and gold, running dual pistol and sword pistol.

Sounds cool to me. I just started my thief last week, and I’m rocking dual pistols, just because it’s too cool to be able to do so, and it’s teaching me how to kite… the hard way.

Oh yea dual pistols are pretty great for kiting melee mobs. I’ve been practicing a good bit on soloing champion trolls and kitten like that.

If the giant drill thingy is coming down on LA i am not against it.. as long as they keep the ruins mostly unaffected.

I do not care much about the new stuff, since it is some patchwork design and destruction could lead to a much more interesting design that way, but if they destroy the fond memories of the old LA then i will be seriously sad

If they don’t fix this glitch… I am going back to D/P thief. Mesmer is the only reason D/P wasn’t the best class in gw2. All I do is stealth and hit a giant backstab. Then… you ded son. Everyone roll thief to send the message.

Better yet, roll a warrior. You don’t have to worry about managing stealth and initiative, do even more damage, and get a ton of free vitality and toughness equivalence.

Thief. Not nerf or buff, just fix annoyances like the Last Refuge trait which provides a nice handy Revealed debuff right when you don’t want it and is a minor so you can’t go into Shadow without taking it…

Also rangers… do something with Longbow. Anything.

Also, I wouldn’t mind seeing more group utility, like an AoE revive skill. Most classes have an AoE instant or quick revive that they can bring, but best thief can do is AoE stealth while doing the generic long revive.

I would have to say that there IS a problem with thieves causing other classes to not have viable GC specs.

You can’t really run a glass cannon mesmer, ele, ranger, warrior, necro against a thief and expect to win. Of course, the tankier specs these classes have do just fine against thieves.

exact! and teleport is one of the mainproblems why.

teleports (shadowsteps) are extremely easy to shut down if you know the terrain. Things which do not stop a rush or leap attack can stop a shadowstep.

Clearly playing favorites. Funny thing is the devs hardly ever even play thieves in their presentations, and when they do, they die instantly.

The even introduced a cheap purchasable WvW item that completely disables stealth in an area, but yeah, definitely favoring thieves.

I honestly don’t see how a lot of the “story” content can’t be accessed through a Historian-Type NPC like they had for a short while outside the Tower of Nightmares. Some of the group stuff (like the Marionette, for example) I can see being bothersome, though.

Ah marionette would be easy, have you defend a portal against small waves of enemies with a couple veterans, then do weakened versions of the 5 wardens in order, then enter scarlet’s secret lair.

For fitting all of this into the game, an Asuran virtual reality simulation device would be amazing.

I’m getting really sick of thieves, their mechanics are so overpowered – not in the sense that they can kill easily, but nobody should be able to go that invisible, evade that many times and regen their health like it’s nobodies business.

Oh god more whining about thieves… They’ve already nerfed nearly every skill the thief has (even though thieves were never considered OP in beta and received no buffs after that) and put a WvW item to completely disable stealth, what more do you want?

omg did u even read that there is bug? its not whining about thief its a gamebreaking bug for the mesmer. illusions stay up as long as enemy is in reach regardless of stealth. now it goes poof every time someone stealthes. can u guys top assuming we are complaining about your class? mes vs mes is the same problem atm.

Ah the irony of asking if someone “even read”. But yeah, this isn’t a case of thieves being op, its a stealth bug. Clones aren’t retaining their targets anymore of the stealth so they die, thinking the target has “left”. It IS a problem. And no it’s not totally irrelevant to the Mm bug. It’s the same exact concept,’I’m hoping to get some Mesmer sympathy for once. Mesmers love abusing moa on MMs, now you get to see how frustrating it is.

I like it. Most classes can have their signature abilities made useless temporarily by one or more class. No reason for Mesmer to be any different. Not like its impossible to keep someone from stealthing (including, like I mentioned before, a purchasable item to do so in WvW maps)

i dont even use moa. its a stupid skill and its more for trolling so i dislike it. im all for replacing this elite!
but this bug is not a counter its a gamebreaking bug. mesmers have only 1 autoattack that doesnt require a target which is mh sword. so vs a thief we can now only autoattack as we have only ai that could attack a thief when he pops out of stealth. i really could care less about the moa skill. this is a way different problem. as an mm necro u still got attacks next to your minions. so if u wanna discuss about moa elite i am all for moa being replaced. but this thread is about a bug.

I’ve been hit by a wide variety of mesmer skills while stealthed, not even counting illusions and phantasms… I think you may be doing something wrong.

You’re only ‘dragged’ or ‘forced’ into content if you are chasing achievement points – which should not be how you play GW2.

Or if you’re crafting a legendary weapon, or following the living story…

So, has anyone been able to actually do any of the PvE storyline that is set in this new map yet? It sounds, from dev comments, like there are completely separate instances of this map for PvE questing and for the new overflow WvW system. If that’s how it is going to work, then this entire thread is a non-issue.

There are three forks to this week’s story. One is in Tyria (mostly dialog), one is in the PvP map (grab an item deep within the map, pain in the kitten when people are camping it from the other factions), and one I haven’t done yet which sounds like it is in a new instance related to EOTM.

edit: I was wrong on that last one. No instance. Just a small event in the world similar to a single probe with aetherblades.
