Honestly I’d do whatever is possible to bring the progression closer to what Guild Wars 1 originally had. It was nice being max level with max gear halfway through the story and the only vertical progression being your knowledge and skill as a player.

Imagine GW2 if after you do Arah story/main story, the Cursed Shore changed and you could start permanently clearing out the undead. What a nice thought.
Then what would you grind for the thousands of rare crafting materials you have to farm to get anything good?
I think I’d like it a lot more if I could turn off the godkitten ed spell effect visuals.
What’s the point of even having character models and red circles on the ground if it’s all covered by an orange and blue fireworks show?
(edited by bwillb.2165)
They’re not that hard to figure out… I just wish that:
1. there was a bit fewer adds (they don’t kill me, just block the kitten screen!)
2. there was more time to attack the wurm when he’s vulnerable (First try I was out at a color station when he turned vulnerable and he had his shield back up by the time I got back to him)
3. he was a bit more friendly to melee… this ties into #2 as well. One AoE around the worm to dodge and your time fighting him is pretty much over.
4. the targeting worked a bit better… even when his shield was down I could not target the worm, it kept trying to target larvae.
5. that you could attempt it more than once every 2 kitten ed hours! I run an escort mission successfully, and the kitten ed mission is starting back up again as soon as I finish. I fail to kill a worm, and the worm disappears for 2 freakin hours? How many hours a day are you expecting people to play to be able to down the marionette before that event is over?
Engineer is pretty easy once you get kits, like the flamethrower.
is it possible? How?
I was trying to do the new living world bosses and I can’t even see the mobs through the orange and blue fireworks show that is 20+ people and 50 mobs all casting spells.
Remember how the events in this game were gonna automatically scaled based on the players involved? Gotta love bait and switch.
Yeah I also remember how there wasn’t going to be grinding or a gear treadmill. Die instantly when wearing lv 80 exotics? OK. “get gear nub”
Either instance, or a build up event chain so that we’re at least not sitting around doing nothing for 2 hours.
It should have been instanced and started when 125 people were in the queue
YES this please! 2 hours doing random kitten while I wait, then get plopped into an empty overflow…
There, even used Zerk + Scholar just for you.
I noticed that your thief seems to be more mobile than my little guy during or immediately around a pistol whip. Is that just my imagination, or are Asura pistol whip animations kittened?
(edited by bwillb.2165)
Do they still work in other games? Have you checked your keybindings?
What I think would be neat is different animations based on your stats. Power, Precision, Toughness, etc… Each could give you different animations when they are your highest stat.
Very comparible to WoW’s “undead” class though.
That was intentional… Person I was replying to described the Draenei.
An shamanistic race of purple and blue goat-people that have travelled from an alternate dimension on a godly-entity’s craft to gather Kralkatorrik’s jewels to use as a source of power and to adorn their belly-dancers with.
How about a race of undead, newly released from Zhaitan’s grasp?
I have a different proposal. If your toughness value goes above 1,5k- 1,75k- 2k- 2,25k- 2,5k-… you get an option to replace skills on your weapon with more tank-related ones.
They could be simple variations, adding protection, regeneration or a block on them, or they coul be totally new skills. The same should apply for power values above 1,75k- 2k- 2,25k- … and healing power.
Healing power and toughness would need a serious buff first though, because the max healing power one can get is 1,5k-1,7k, where toughness can reach 2k if you stack a lot of it, but power easily goes 2,5k-3k (especially with might & bloodlust).
I kind of like the idea of weapon skills changing to match your stats… Someone who has beefed up their muscles would handle a sword differently than someone who has mastered their accuracy on vital organs.
The trinity was supposed to have been replaced by multiple varieties of builds, what we got is mass zerg therefore I can only conclude that the trinity was not only far superior but also gave me much more memorable and satisfying encounters.
I can remember amazing encounters in dungeons and raids from trinity games going back 10 years including GW1, but alas GW2 will be completely forgettable as it just does not provoke that sense of fear, danger and achievement.
That’s less a problem relating to the trinity and more a problem of the Guild Wars 2 team being a bit less than great when it comes to balancing offense vs defense. I don’t think they’d do much better with a trinity, except then you’d be pigeonholed into a role and have to reroll to switch.
You’d probably be further ahead overclocking that core2duo until you can afford a newer generation of CPU and motherboard.
So theres no way around this I guess?
You could switch to an intel CPU which has slightly better single-core performance, but other than that, not that I know of.
It’s because Guild Wars 2’s engine was built for a single core, so you’re likely to max out one core while the others sit around doing nothing.
Best bet for GW2’s kitty engine is just higher resolution, unfortunately.
Yeah, it would be easier to just remove Ascended gear, or more properly, vertical progression, entirely, from the game. It’s simply not in the GW DNA and it simply fails here. BTW, I think your name, Fistful of Bacon, is perhaps the best account name I have seen to date. Cheers. Sadder even than the fact that they added VP is the fact that I didn’t think of Fistful of Bacon.
I fully support removing vertical progression. Fancy rare gear can look cool, it can have the best stats possible guaranteed, but it shouldn’t have stats unattainable on normal gear.
How about… a buff on defensive abilities instead?
What if the Star Elder Dragon is actually a fabulous Space Butterfly?
Balancing would be easier, so some nerfs wouldn’t be necessary.
I’d think balancing tanks vs dps vs healers would be harder than balancing dps with support skills vs dps with support skills. WoW’s “hybrid tax” comes to mind.
When is the last time you had the case opened up look like an overheating issues open up the case and blow out all the dust. If its a laptop check the air flow path use canned air blow it out. Check the temps of your system, there are several free app for this, CPUz is one also if it’s a PC you might try reseating the card remove the card from the slot on the motherboard and put it back in. Also make sure all your drivers are up to date including the commonly over look motherboard drivers.
I just built this PC in late November, and had it open in late December to install a wireless card. The case has a fine mesh in front of the intake fans, so no noticeable dust yet. Temps on CPU and GPU aren’t going above 50C when this happens, and System temp isn’t going above 40C. Graphics card is seated perfectly and works fine in every other game I’ve tried, including a Skyrim install that has 4K-sized textures and an ENB mod. For drivers I’ve tried both the latest WHQL and the latest Beta that’s offered up by Nvidia Experience.
I haven’t tried reinstalling, but it only happens occasionally and is cleared by restarting the client so I’d have a hard time believing that it’s a bad texture file… Seems more like an engine bug or shading glitch, especially with how it shimmers.
(edited by bwillb.2165)
Nothing, eh? Have I stumped the gurus?
This shows up occasionally after entering an area. It kind of shimmers when I move the camera. The only way to get rid of it is to close the client and reopen it.
All of my drivers are up to date, nothing is overclocked, nothing is overheating, and no artifacts show up in any other games.
Intel i5 4670K (@ 3.6 Ghz)
1×8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 1600Mhz DDR3
EVGA Geforce GTX 760 2GB
Windows 8.1 Pro, all current updates
this is what you get for putting all your eggs in one basket.
nobody told you to, you just followed a trend like a lemming.
nerf-lol.
You mean to tell me that I should have had:
Knight’s helmet
Valkyrie Shoulder
Hunter Coat
Assassin’s Leggings
Carrion Gloves
Apothecary Boots ???
Yeah but make sure you have the same runes on all of them because they don’t want people to mix and match set bonuses.
tl;dr: You have to play exactly the way they want you to.
I’ve wondered that about a lot of Arena net’s decisions. From the grind for items, to the baseless nerfs to satisfy whiners, to not allowing adjustable FOV (and outright attacking people who dared ask for it), to the location they chose to put the camera, to running solely on DX9, to the lack of endgame reward for finishing the personal story… They make a lot of weird choices. The only choice of theirs which I can really say I am glad they made was the business model of buy once and play forever.
What’s really strange about the whole thing is that the graphics options have little to no effect on the frame rate, other than resolution. I had a core2duo and GTX 550ti, and framerate was exactly the same no matter what options I set. Okay, cpu bound, that makes sense, right? Well, now I’ve got an i5 4670K and a GTX 760, and it’s the same story. FPS is higher than it was with my old machine, still not great but now playable, but no graphics option other than resolution has even the tiniest bit of effect on the frame rate.
Oh, and if i set ANY graphics options in my nvidia driver, I get flickering texture issues in GW2 and only in GW2.
Fix your dang engine, ArenaNet!
OMG. They finally did it!!! Looks like anet is taking a lot of good steps in the right direction right now
- First the GvG arena: Hooray!
- Account-bound fractal level: Hooray!
- Then they delete the cultural armour from gem store: Hooray!
- Then they decide to make WXP accountbound? Hooray!
The only thing we need now is account-bound ascended gear (swappable between light, med and heavy? :o).
Thank you arenanet! I have faith in you again.
How about account-shared character levels? New alts that are not limited on what zones they can play in? Full trait spec from the get go? The leveling system is already pretty pathetic and feels like an afterthought…

Two boxers enter the ring. One can turn invisible. The other creates a fireball the size of the ring every time be punches. Yeah, totally bet on the invisible one, THAT sounds like a smart bet.
This is so true, it’s not even funny. And so many warrs complain about thieves.
Playing both a warrior and thief, I must say, the thief is a lot more powerful. A warrior, when fully geared towards bursting damage, has one trick up their sleeves every minute or so. That trick is easy to dodge, or when caught, you just need a single stun breaker (remember to keep one against a warrior). The thief, on the other hand, can just recover using stealth and try his one-shot-kill move again.. and again.. and again. Until you succeed, or give up and walk away (in case of bunker Guardians and Elementalists).
whats this magical one shot kill move you speak of?
Cause Im Traited for 30 pts in the power tree, 30 pts in precision, 10 in trickery, and have nearly FULL berserker +crit dmg gear on (about +100% crit dmg)
And my backstabs hit for about 6.5k on people in WvW. If you have Less than 7 thousand health in WvW, something is terribly terribly wrong.
It’s possible to burst about 10k when conditions are perfect, but that gets increasingly rare as player skill goes up, and can only be done every 45 seconds or so…
Stealth does not prevent all damage. In fact, it doesn’t prevent any damage. It prevents direct targeting. There is a very big difference between the two.
what dmg get thief in stealth ?
Not 100% what you mean, but if a thief stealths and doesn’t move, and you keep swinging, the thief will take all that damage. All stealth does is prevent you from seeing/targeting the thief for a few seconds. We’ve said it before, and will continue saying it, stealth =/= invulnerable. You do know you can use most abilities without having a target right??
my ranger cant see thief then I dont do dmg only my RF go in space and 0 dmg
I make barrage on myselfe and thief in stealth do dmg on me and he dont get any dmg
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
Before long, that won’t be possible. Even their reparations for nerfs are more nerfs. “Oh yeah we’re nerfing backstab burst but we’ll make up for it… with a 50% damage nerf to dancing dagger.”
The thief is only stealthed for at most about 50% of the time, not 80%, so my first suggestion would be to open your eyes and pay attention in battle.
50% damage nerf on Headshot. I’m calling it now.
Good? e-sports just bring out certain whining idiots that want to nerf anything they don’t play. Look at WoW and its arena e-sports… A certain class got nerfed so much that they have to drastically buff it now, several years later, just so it stands a chance in cooperative play.
stupid people make the thief OP.
Warrior, obviously. They were already much stronger than thieves and, look at that, nothing but Buffs today. And they’re STILL over there in the warrior forum complaining that they didn’t get buffed enough.
(edited by bwillb.2165)
the things that pass for logic on this forum are always amazing.
do you honestly think the thief class would be so popular if it wasn’t so powerful?
personally i hope the patch moves the class towards a more balanced position. low risk + high reward is obviously broken which is why the class is so popular.
edit – also comparisons to warriors are always so genuine because warriors can turn invisible to avoid retaliation and teleport across the map when things are not going their way.
In TF2, you’ll see a large number of spies, and snipers on a 12 man team when you go into random pubs. Usually 3 or more of each.
In reality, a well put together team of 12 players would have one sniper in most situations, and have one spy who goes on and off.
People rarely care about what’s really effective. They play what they feel is “cool”, or “leet”.
in competitive games people always gravitate towards the most powerful classes available.
its really just simple logic. people want to win. the powerful class increases their odds.
this is not rocket science.
Riddle me this: Why do you see no or almost no backstab burst thieves in tPvP?
Completely bad idea. They’ve repeatedly thrown out everything they did well in Guild Wars 1, and everything they promised in the manifesto. it’s just getting worse.
It’s going to hit hard. They have a vendetta against thieves now. They’re even banning people from the forum just for defending thieves against all of the QQ. Got a temp ban for accumulation of points yesterday, haven’t received a single point in almost two weeks. Expect thieves to be completely useless by the time they’re done. Get out while you can, preferably out of the game completely.
Wow, that looks pretty interesting… For a class that can outlast most others, that’s some pretty wicked burst. I think you may have just convinced me to convert some gold into gems for a char slot and try a necro….
If it convinced you, good thing. But be ready to be disappointed.
Why? It’s got the staying power of the necro while being able to pull out some pretty massive burst in a pinch… And even when someone seemed to avoid most of the burst he was still able to whittle them down without being taken down. What’s to be disappointed about?
If thief gets nerfed then MOA shape change from mesmer should get nerfed. 10s is way too long to be running around as a bird with no attack or defense.
Yeah I’m not sure who thought a 10 second CC would be a good idea, when most other CCs only last like 1-2 seconds…
post
Oh good, someone who knows the truth and is a bit better at the art of debating

I haven’t noticed anything new, but it’s quite possible the rendering issues could be happening in reverse (lag / prioritization issues when telling other clients you shouldn’t be visible).
My ele has 2400 armor and gets hit for 10k+(im not even glass spec, if I was would of been 1 shot for sure.), throw up lighting shield hes stunned in stealth still, but still gets off his other attacks to kill me all in stealth.
Attacking breaks stealth. You’re running into the rendering issues which everyone agrees need to be fixed.
