Never heard off or encountered this, can you elaborate? I’d see it for myself and get back to you if I haven’t done it already. I have yet to encounter the mystical loot drop DR myself, even in Orr.The town between craven blight and compass plaza. There is an NPC event just outside the outpost (literally). I forget the name of the event but your goal is to fight the waves of mobs with the NPC. Some of them spawn just out of aggro range so you have to drag them to the npc. most of the waves will spawn right on top of you.
It’s a 30 minute event, but I’m pretty sure it could be longer than that. All you do is wipe out waves of mob until the event completes. It’s completely stationery.
I don’t know the spawn time of this event but the last 4 or 5 times I was there, this event was up. It’s a Norn female NPC.
I know the event you’re talking about. That event actually succeeds when the Norn NPC gets down to 0 health. The description needs to be clarified I think. All you have to do is drag the undead to her and then drop aggro, normally would only take a few minutes, but people farm the kills because they don’t know how to end it. There are, however, other events in Orr that can easily get you at the DR limit, such as ones where you have to escort a squad, take over an outpost, and then defend that outpost.
I have never played an MMO where it was as easy to be completely outfitted in max gear as GW2 as it was in GW2 ht last few weeks..
The devs had to do something because its no good if everyone has all the best stuff 8 weeks into the game. Too many people would feel like they had “won” the game and move on.
So you haven’t played Guild Wars 1. It was far easier to get max gear in GW1, and yet people kept playing. Why? Because the content was interesting and people could play how they want.
I think the challenge is in actually landing the backstab, which isn’t exactly the IWIN Button some people make it out to be. CnD has a cast time and has to land in kissing distance, Powder-Seeker-Stealth is a big Initiative chunk, and in other cases you’d be burning the heal or utility – some Thieves have the confidence for that.
And Backstabbing back to back still throws a 3 second CD in between opportunities to do it, not actual stabbing.
As mentioned, there’s also the server fighting against you, which I agree needs to be fixed, because I don’t want to be cheap as much as you don’t want me to.
Don’t forget that it does half damage if you aren’t behind the target when it hits. if the target turns much at all, bam, useless thief.
Thank you, ArenaNet, for forcing me into a 65 FoV. And thank you, ArenaNet, for forcing camera smoothing and mouse acceleration upon me. And thank you, ArenaNet, for implementing several features that encourage grinding and then adding diminishing returns to everything. I shall forever be in your debt. Am I doing this right?
You know you play too much GW2 when your night-long dream ends in you finding a rich orichalcum node.
Nothing, really. However, They’ve put a bunch of things together into a well-fitting package, much like WoW did back in its time, to create a new standard platform to build upon.
I’m not sure how well a Halloween achievement would work out. Halloween is on the 31st, and half of the 31st in America will actually count towards November in achievements.
Speaking of training, you know whats really funny? Starting a skill challenge fight in a town full of AFKs and then stealthing after the fight starts. Skill challenge NPC will proceed to kill all of the AFKs.
I have personally seen this so many times, especially in world versus world because I spend most of my time there.
Well that’s interesting since enemies can’t see your name in WvW. They are called “<servername> invader/defender” in WvW I think, which is indeed the same as they’d see in place of your name.
I dunno, but I won’t be able to see much of it if they don’t fix the camera and fov issues by then.
Okay but I’ve got less defense and my health is low enough that a 13.8k backstab would instantly kill me, but that’s never happened…
A lot of the improvement you saw is probably due to drivers. Drivers were in a bad state for GW2 until after release.
Ok that build calculator isn’t including any worn armor at all. So you have 200 above what your armor gives you, which is over 1000,
That doesn’t seem possible either unless you were running around naked. With a full set of leather armor my glass cannon spec thief has 1064 defense.
Did some more testing, managed to get around 4200 a couple times, but no more than that. And the heavy targets only take about 1k less damage than light ones. Also if you detonate the bomb right before it hits the ground it does the same amount of damage, just spread over multiple hits.
100-200 toughness? is that even possible? my thief has almost 1000 toughness in a pure glass-cannon spec, NAKED.
oh.
Ok, I just did it without detonating and have attached a screenshot (Note: terribly unlucky with crits). My damage still doesn’t reach the numbers that you speak of.
I agree that the damage is good (when it crits), but I’m not sure if it warrants debuffing based on the results I’m getting. Although, making it cost 4 init at start wouldn’t particularly bother me (since I’ve usually denotated them).
The main reason I say this is because it looks like the Engineer can achieve a similar effect with grenades (Note: consider the chance for 2 sec. burn effect on crits with Engi traits too). See video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEKcnaF_PY8 .
Yeah that’s the kind of results I see with the skill as well. full glass cannon spec and gear, get about 2-3k average on crits with non-detonated shots.
Are you like, level 2 and playing in WvW?
They really didn’t. Some configurations work great but others get way lower than they should or are just completely inconsistent. For instance I’ll have 60fps one second and 20fps the next with absolutely nothing changing on screen.
Also, try WvW.
The bow is really a strange one. It was obviously designed for mesmers, but mesmers can’t use bows.
No, I like having all of my trait points available to play around with…
The time is fine, it just needs to give you longer before starting. Back in GW1 it just spammed you telling you a new build was available, and if you were busy it would just spam you all night until you were ready.
I could’ve sworn I remember reading about how if you found a tactical spot to fire from the game wouldn’t punish you for it, along time ago.
It doesn’t in GW1, does it? I never understood that mechanic. If you’re going to put that kind of restriction in place just don’t even bother having ranged attacks.
If it’s just transmuting items that are normally available in game, then I don’t see it as being an issue.
The obvious solution is for ArenaNet to continue to do nothing.
ANet already has our money, and now the trouble-making complainers will go back to WoW (where the camera won’t make them ill).
Problem “solved”.
Yeah that’s all well and good until they want to sell expansion content and gems… Despite not having a monthly fee, they still have reason to want to keep people interested.
You only get sickness if you sit to close to your screen. Sit further away, problem solved.
I sit about as far away as I can while still being able to comfortably read text. still get dizzy and have to take frequent breaks with the default FoV.
Appreciate the backup but this bwillb guy is already so set in his point of view he wont accept any other arguments so I kinda wrote him off as a kitten and carried on.
In fact if you read his posts you’ll find that his initial argument was that he was in full exotics and only did 2k, now he’s talking about tPvP all of a sudden. It’s a classic case of backpedaling desperately, trying to salvage some form of superiority in the discussion even when clearly in the wrong.
Yeah, full exotics without crazy WvW buffs does about the same damage as in tPvP with exotic pvp gear. IMAGINE THAT? Forgive me if I don’t give easily, every kittening day there’s a new kittened thread kittening about a different thief ability with severely inflated numbers. Don’t even kittening bother posting WvW “proof”, test in a controlled environment or gtfo.
Yeah but as soon as you stealth they start running back to their spawn location which can make positioning a backstab a pain in the kitten :p It’s even worse when i stealth and the mob starts going after some other person who then runs outside of the leash range… bleh.
Oh so a… karmabanner.. a minor orb and some food buffs made clusterbombs hit for 7k+ instead of 2k? Well, that’s cleared up then, carry on.
Hey, get the same damage in tPvP and I’ll eat my hat for you. And my hat doesn’t taste very good, I pulled it out of a slimy undead maggot.
How cute, you conveniently ignored all the damage done on the others. Fully buffed? Only buff I see on myself as I shoot that shot is swiftness, rofl. Also I hit people harder when they’re downed? wat?
Oh well didn’t expect you to admit fault anyways. kitten clusterbomb so weak, please buff thieves, gief 1200 range and sniper rifles.
Really? The only buff you see is swiftness? You don’t see the banner, the food, the potion, and the orb bonus? And we don’t really have any info about the target other than that they were level 80… could be in level 1 gear for all we know. Get some data from a controlled environment such as tPvP and we’ll talk about whether it’s OP or not. You can’t tell kitten from WvW.
Okay, you got me. When you’re fully buffed and hit someone who is downed state without any buffs you can do 7k. Most of your other cluster bomb crits did about 2k, but we’ll just ignore those. And I mean, it’s not like every other ability would get the same boost when you’re buffed against a prone target…
Nothing at the moment. Playing Minecraft more than GW2 recently. Just waiting for the plethora of issues to be patched. At least the kittened camera issues…
You people hitting for 2k w/ clusterbomb with full exotics must either have awful specs or you stack kitten stats, just saying.
6-9k sounds about accurate on clothies.
okay gimme a spec and I’ll go get some screenshots of it definitely not doing 9k per hit against anything other than a lowbie in WvW.
It’s really bad for thieves… As soon as you stealth, mobs start to reset.
midnight tonight.
Nice try… I’m in full exotic power/crit/crit damage gear and my cluster blombs only crit for 2k per target. I might be able to nudge that up a bit with a slightly better bow, but certainly not over 3k.
Can’t edit post… Forgot to mention the most important thing, a cripple!
So what exactly does D/D have over this? (in pvp)
If the Bp>Hs stealth works like that I would at least put it on par with C&D and since 3 and 4 are not used in D/D anyway how is D/P just not straight up better?
auto attack?
cheaper stealth, two AoE options, and better ranged damage.
kitten (plural kittens)
(informal) Grime or mud.
I’m sure it’ll change to kittens meaning grime or mud
Have you played any 8v8 match recently? It’s rather easy to notice there are twice as many thieves as all the other classes combined.
That’s not even close to true… It is a fairly popular class, but I see far more rangers and mesmers and warriors in 8v8 than I do thieves. I’d say thief is about tied with Engineer from my experiences.
All I got out of this is that necros are op. Nerf necros!
Yeah that’s unfortunately true. Also you can get stealthed earlier than you want to if someone uses a blast finisher, as that gives AoE stealth. get that in the middle of your heartseeker animation and you just wasted a stealth.
Commando was an April Fools joke. Some of its components were given to the Engineer class, though.
Is the update coming sunday night / monday morning or is it not until monday night?
I was going to correct your usage of the word casual and explain how casual just means they play less and don’t take it as seriously, but it’s hard to argue with an angry asura on a big red couch.
Searched ‘Loreclaw’ with no results. Found cool secret jumping puzzle but my Thief seems very weak (as in dies instantly) if red circles are not avoided and likewise doesn’t do well with open flame.
What is the minimum prep for this I might be missing since this is the first time these damages have been introduced to the PC?
I’ve watched several YouTube’s on this puzzle and it appears the PCs do the jumping solo and are able to move much faster. One PC had his pants burned off but otherwise still survived.
Also…at the chest(s) there were other players to help out with the fighting… Did they all go through the red circle traps and the fire unscathed?
Does this then require a group and does the first person through to the chests wait maybe a considerable time before her ‘krewe’ (other PCs) manage somehow to arrive?
I actually tried res’ing another PC who happened on the scene but was killed on one of the red circle traps (is there a better name). There wasn’t enough time between the red circle reappearing and killing the res progress.
I need some relatively simple solution or I may give up on this neat one… Too much dying is bad for my nervous system with no clues how to survive or do things differently—if you know what I mean.
Thanks.
You can skip most of the traps by taking a different path. As soon as you enter the cave, jump down into the water. Swim around to the back of the spike trap towers and there’s a jumping bit to get back up that takes you up behind the traps. Then once you’re up there go kill the spiders and climb up the rocks behind them and you can skip the flame traps. Only trap you’ll run into is the falling rocks on the stairs. For that one you can just run past most of them and then dodge forward when you’re near the top.
The chest room can be a little problematic because there are two different bosses that can spawn there. The shadow skelk is an easy enough battle if you use your skills wisely, but sometimes you’ll get a champion ghost mob with his own pocket healer, that one can 3-shot a warrior.

And a good chunk of that 300 hours would have been boring grind.
Since when? cause last time I checked, I’m 200+ hours in and haven’t done a single minute of grinding. I don’t expect that to change.
Since you decided to collect the dungeon armor sets, craft legendary weapons, and spend some time in Orr hacking away at nameless zombies to finish an event that resets 2 minutes later, of course.
If you’re a bad player, playing a thief won’t hide that against anything but people who are at least as bad as you. As for if it’ll be nerfed or not? Well, that depends on if they listen to the bad players who don’t pay any attention to what’s going on other than “omg a thief killed me” or if they actually go by facts.
Yeah it’s pretty awesome. I used that set for most of my leveling experience. Only really mixed it up at 80 because I was running into a lot of dredge which are immune to blind, so I grabbed a second dagger.
