Unfounded Allegation: Mursaat origins

in Lore

My problem with it is this (as you pointed out) – If you are basing it primarily because of similar appearances, then I would think you have to factor the Norn / Jotun in as well. Norn are just bigger humans and jotun are just slightly deformed big humans going by appearance. It actually bugs me a bit how similar humans and norn are, considering they aren’t really connected in any way. If they make a connection based on similar appearance then a lot of the current races would have to have had a common ancestor race.

Or they could have a common creator.

Now, throughout the lore that I know, there’s no evidence of the creation of life by deities (even with the humans and the human gods, they kinda just appeared one day through the mists to my knowledge), which would be another general point of contention for my post (considering the theory states both the mursaat and humans were creations when there’s no evidence of such a thing happening to any race. Even elder dragon minions are merely ‘things being corrupted’ instead of brand new creations).

Unfounded Allegation: Mursaat origins

Well your theory is 100% debunked by one piece of lore: the mursaat predate any time of the Six Gods’ time on or even known knowledge of Tyria. They were around for the previous dragonrise (supposedly 10,000 BE), while the Six Gods arrived much later, after the Elder Dragons went back to sleep (earliest known mention being 1769 BE)

Plus, while mursaat are humanoid, they have some distinguishing features marking them notably not human, their three toes being a big one, as well as their “wings”.

Other notes:

  • Dhuum was against resurrection and undead because he was an unfair god. It’s said that he had hunted down anyone who “escaped death” (exact meaning unknown, but could easily mean anyone who received healing magic for a fatal wound and survived just as well as meaning those resurrected/turned undead).
  • The gods did not worry about granting magic, but rather the conflict came when they wanted to take back magic – the five gods saw it as a mistake, while Abaddon did not see it as such (reason unknown). But Abaddon releasing magic was entirely agreed upon by the other gods (whether just by majority or unanimously is unknown though, we don’t know how the gods decided things).

To be fair, the mursaat predate the human gods coming to tyria to our knowledge, it is, very technically speaking, possible for the human gods to have come to tyria before the earliest written records of history. Not that it’s likely anything the devs have planned (even i’d be shocked if anything i mentioned has any merit to it), but it’s still technically possible just because the lore hasn’t covered it.

Though, of course, the flaw of that argument is that anything could be changed according to the devs wishes, which i acknowledge. I also acknowledge that fan backlash would be pretty harsh if they changed the lore that drastically too.

Just to get that point out of the way.

For the Dhuum thing, that is a fair point, although i guess the question arises why the human gods would stand for such behaviour (seeing as they both accepted Grenth replacing Dhuum and fought against Abaddon when they tried to take away magic while he tried to let the mortals have it)

Didn’t know that the Gods were for giving mortals magic (whether, as you said, unanimously or by majority vote), so that’s another point to consider.

EDIT: I addressed the other points, I may as well address the biology thing too. Basically I agree with your assessment (as mentioned in the first post, just because something looks human-like, doesn’t mean that it has human origins), though a point of contention could be that the number of toes doesn’t really matter, I wouldn’t call the number of toes a big factor, but the seemingly elongated clawed nature of the toes a bigger factor. And the wings are a big difference too.

Alright, so the title is intentional, just so everyone knows. With that out of the way, lets dive into what I have a theory about the origin of the mursaat.

Based ONLY on the evidence of their appearance, I have a theory that the mursaat are some sort of precursor to humans. The theory is that the mursaat were a first test run for the human gods ability to create life, forming them mostly in their image, but granting them vast magical powers and perhaps a connection to the mists themselves.

At some point the human gods abandon their creation (let’s say that the human gods, after creating the mursaat, were able to see how they would eventually be inclined towards evil deeds) and the mursaat are left to fend for themselves. Later, they either use their inborn connection to the mists to escape from the elder dragons, keeping their magic for themselves or, if they weren’t created with a natural connection to the mists, imitated the human gods ability to step into the mists with their enhanced aptitude for magic, failing to completely step into the mists and conveniently finding a safe zone away from both he horrors of the mists and the horrors of the elder dragons.

Eventually, the human gods return with their newest creation, the humans, and give priority to them while ignoring their previous creation. These new humans are now not as long lived as their older brethren, since for some reason the method that the human gods used to create life tends to lean towards evil if they are long lived enough (possible evidence for this could be Palawa Joko, i’d mention Vizier Khilbron but he had a minion of Abbadon whispering in his ear before he ever became a lich, so he doesn’t really count for the theory), which can also give a reason for why Dhuum was so against reincarnation and the undead, as they gave means for an individual to live beyond what would be considered normal and make them beyond the reach of the judgement of the gods. However the rest of the gods may view the humans as ‘perfected’ versions of their original creations, and as such could be lenient (which would be why they allowed Grenth to overthrow dhuum). Also, the human gods may have been wary of Abbadon giving magic to the humans, and when it backfired, fought against him to prevent the humans from turning down the path of evil like their previous creations, the mursaat.

Now none of this has any evidence whatsoever and I could even shoot a few holes in my own theory (such as, if one of the five ancient races were to be connected to the human gods, it would most likely be the forgotten, what with their connection to divine magic and, as seen in Guild Wars i think, their worship of the human gods), but it was really just a fun thought experiment that i decided to share and see if there’s stuff in lore that further provides evidence against (or, oddly, for) the theory at hand.

(Also, I know, just because something LOOKS human doesn’t make it human or mean it’s related to humans, for example, the norn, dwarves, elves, gnomes and probably a list long enough to rival human history)

(Also, as far as I know, nobody knows what the mursaat look like under their armour, so their unarmoured appearance could either make them look like humans or like predators from the movies of the same name)

My favourite 2 are revenant and mesmer. Mesmer because of how powerful in game mesmers can be (i’m looking at you Xera) and revenants because of their potential (My thoughts are forgotten, seer, mursaat and ghost king adelbern stances that i always imagine my character having access too. Pretending i have spectral agony is fun too) and the demon and dragon magic.

After that it’s guardian and necromancer because i love the history of guardian, being a monk/paragon/partial dervish hybrid and necromancer because of it’s dark powers.

Then it’s thief and ranger. Thief because of daredevil martial arts fighting style combined with thief skills and the ranger for it’s druidic and nature powers.

Engineer comes next because they’re just awesome.

elementalist and warriors are last, but definitely not least.

Alright thank you everyone for your feedback. I guess i have to start the grind from now but i’m up for it if it’ll make my gameplay feel much better. And yes it is for PVE and i’m a casual player too.

Even though i have 4 human characters out of my 9 slots, i still think it’s a good idea that this game has a variety of races. I actually want MORE races, to get more lore from those races that we could play.

First, it really sucks that you can’t buy celestial gear, but that’s not what this post is about. Is celestial gear viable for all classes? I main a revenant and a mesmer and i’d like to see more weapon variety usage from both of them without feeling like i’m missing out because of ‘wrong’ stats. While i tend to go for more supportive or tanky roles, i like the flexibility that celestial gear offers (i have yet to craft celestial gear but i want to). Is it worth the effort of levelling up a craft to max level to make celestial gear or should i stick with something like cleric?

But DSD is absolutely the biggest secret in GW2.

DSD?

Deep Sea Dragon, also known as the sixth elder dragon of (presumably) water. the reason why quaggan, krait, largos and karkas (probably one more race i can’t think of) are in the shallower ends of the water, near coastlines and in rivers and lakes instead of the deeper ends of the ocean where we would never see them is because of DSD, also known by fans as Bubbles.

I LOVE the idea of having a seer, a mursaat, and a forgotten legend for three different elite specs. that way we get some insight and possible lore into these three races.

(i also really want to use spectral agony).

Draxynic, what about Xera’s reality warping mesmer magic and if I recall correctly Reiko’s ability to not only create clones of herself but also clones of her enemies in Guild Wars (I reckon the large caveat with Reiko would be the number of ministry of purity guard’s she had to her own defence, but her ability was powerful enough to fool everyone except the assassin in your party). Is it not possible for a mesmer to create magic of a more army-like manner like a necromancer or engineer?

I apologise if this has been brought up before. I tried to search ‘revenant’ in the search bar and with a revenant topic on the first page the search found nothing. So i figured i’d ask this question.

Why don’t fractals give revenant like powers to those who traverse them? They’re part of the mists right? and the same thing for WvW players as well. If someone got lost on one of those maps, would they be able to gain revenant like magic?

Now that the dust has settled.... Masteries

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: castlemanic.3198

castlemanic.3198

The xp requirement to unlock masteries is too much. It seems to have been in place to prevent everyone from accessing content so quickly. it’s the same deal that happened with the number of hero poitns requires for elite specs. it’s simply too much. the progression doesn’t feel FUN. in a game where fun is supposed to be the point, the massive jumps in xp requirements between tiers isn’t fun. plus the fact that tomes of knowledge etc. don’t contribute to mastery gains and we can’t even use little xp scrolls to gain experience for masteries either is again something that prevents fun from being had. i’ve actively been avoiding HoT content because it’s become really grindy. the story progression has slowed to a crawl because i keep on facing barriers to gameplay that have only one solution. this is way too much to preparing to have fun.

i didn’t buy HoT to prepare to have fun. I bought HoT to HAVE fun. and the massive leaps in xp gains for masteries aren’t fun. Using masteries in smart ways to get to other mastery points is a great idea and what i had expected them to be. not grind grind grind. i havent even been able to access any of the adventures, which i was really looking forward to, to even get xp that way. Again this is a lot of preparing to have fun.

people seem to think that the fact that you can buy the insignia means that you have control over which character acquires the soulbound mistward armour. I’d like to call bullkitten on that. the fact that you can buy the insignia does not mean that the mistward boots can’t be account bound on acquire and soulbound on use like countless armours and weapons.

I’m not sure where i can find the crash log, is it automaically saved somewhere or do i have to copy it from the actual error box?

also how do i know if i’m running the 32 bit client?

Karka queen crash bug

castlemanic.3198

I’m currently extremely annoyed. Twice today i had the game client crash when facing the karka queen today. The second event i got a gold medal and the client crashed before i could get the chest. relogged into a different map where the karka queen was on the way, beat the event and no chest appeared. got gold in participation again.

i got the bonus chest from the first karka queen defeat but i havent gotten the chest with the mistward boot lining. I just want the mistward boot lining if nothing else for the trouble i’ve gone through.

Who would be the new playable race?

Drax, can i just say that you and konig are my favourite sources of info and lore on the forums?

on topic, either largos or tengu, i’m leaning towards largos just because i’m a huge fan of underwater races and the largos wings.

Do you regret pre-purchasing HoT?

Yes, only because the price was dropped and most prepurchase bonuses were are now worth half of what they were. other than that, loving the expansion and dont mind the money i spent on it.

Did they not also say if an interview and game conflict, in game lore takes precedence? I will freely admit to misremembering the context though and am happy to be proved wrong.

Yeah, because Angel McCoy made a dozen mistakes in her interviews that were caught by we lore community, and ended up retconning Ree Soesbee with the claim of “it wasn’t documented on either internal or community wiki” (it was on the latter).

Before Angel took role as continuity designer, the game and interviews actually had continuity between them. So anything added before Jeff and Ree went MIA, IMO, remains cannon when not contradicted with retconning stuff like the Secondborn birth dates.

Ah, okay, thanks for this clarification and the previous one too.

It’s been confirmed that interspecies romance doesn’t even exist, let alone such interactions between different races. Olaf Olafson only speculates that a norn-human hybrid is possible, but arenanet have put their foot down and said it doesn’t matter.

Also the reason we won’t get charr sylvari or charr asura is because the pale trees (plural as shown in one of the level 20 sylvari stories) have just molded them that way. before they were confirmed as dragon minions, it was said that the pale tree made sylvari out of the shape of ronan and was also able to create female sylvari too. Also, sylvari cannot mate or produce children, they all come from the pale tree.

I did it solo, without the mastry, using nothing but shadow refuge and the heal in stealth trait.

It’s not arbitrary. It’s an interesting challenge that you can get a mastry to trivialize if you can’t figure it out within the confines of your class/build. It’s far better than “channel this thing”

no traits or abilities worked for me, i had to get a secondary party to cast alacrity because i couldn’t do it on my own. thats broken and arbitrary, and i’m glad it was fixed. Just because you, as a thief, could manage it with a specific skill/trait combo doesn’t mean every other class could. Guardians couldn’t heal with their virtues. Mesmers couldn’t heal with their traits. Even regen through the revenant ventari tablet couldn’t heal themselves, atleast before the change. That is completely arbitrary, to utterly remove almost every avenue of self regeneration except for shadow refuge/heal in stealth combo or mangoe pie.

none of the hero challenges should be gated by masteries either, which some are and it’s annoying as hell. The principle and design were faulty from their inception and the changes are a thankful breath of air.

Or, y’know, you can use the half dozen or so adrenal mushrooms around the area to refresh your heal skill, like it was meant to be done.

The adrenal mushrooms at the very end of the itzel lore tree that requires nearly 20 mastery points alone and an amount of xp i literally don’t know of because i havent reached that far despite playing every day?

That same adrenal mushroom talent that the vast majority of people havent acquired?

Atleast the bacon thing was changed drastically, so it seems like some things are getting through to them. However the difficulty needs to be toned down. They havent changed the difficulty in the slightest, they’ve increased the timer as another compromise thinking it will satisfy us. it STILL doesn’t solve the problem. the hero challenges need to be soloable. they are not soloable.

All of my human male characters keep randomly saying “lyssa confound you” with no prompt at all. It’s starting to get really annoying and it’s even happened on my revenant who doesn’t have the human racial abilities.

Any word on this would be great.

No, it’s a challenge that requires having a chronomancer with aoe alacrity to help you pass the test. also you need mango pie or some other type of food that grants health regen that isn’t stopped by the bacon. it’s arbitrary, horrible and needs to be replaced because it does nothing good by requiring a specific elite spec with a specific trait to pass. you also can’t cast any of your own skills, so you need another person to do it for you (which i’ve personally done by standing near the location to help players.)

Thanks for your understanding, I’m not saying I’m not in some way elitist, I just feel like anet should recognise that there are people who enjoyed the game as they intended it and show that in some way, instead of simply caving and tossing it aside with a blog post saying “you go you”.

no problem. I definitely understand the need to feel rewarded for effort, as long as that reward doesn’t impede others in any significant way, and a title is definitely one of the best routes to go to reward players who got the 400 hero points before the change.

The change was needed. desperately so. ANet wronged the playerbase by putting such ridiculous requirements for all characters to get their elite specialisation fully unlocked. Having the need to be superior to other people, as you yourself have outlined in your post, does make you an elitist.

all that said, a title would be a great idea, and this is coming from someone who won’t ever get all the hero points. “Mordrem basher” or something along those lines. There should be recognition for those who do complete all the hero points for now, and have the ability to obtain them removed like several other titels from previous living world segments.

I see nothing wrong with this suggestion.

There would have been a backlash had it been mentioned that it was 400 hero points and that each hero point would require a group. It’s a mistake, period, and it got resolved (while a few other issues related to it got sidelined, such as impossible, gimmicky hero challenges that require chronomancers with wells giving alacrity, hero challenges with one shotting champions and just all around all hero points aren’t soloable) because of the outcry, which would have happened in either scenario. There was a serious issue with the very base design and players quickly picked up on that.

now some expectations are too high, such as having elites being given automatically (which, not gonna lie, would be nice, but would remove a certain aspect of character development imho), but most people agreed that the design alone was flawed, and eerything that sprouted from that design was poor as well. it caused problems, frustration and made what would otherwise be a fun game unenjoyable.

players catching on those things isn’t us having too high expectations, it’s us realising when something is messed up and pointing it out until our voices are heard.

The Hero Point requirement adjustment is a welcome and commendable step (big thanks to Colin and the gang!), but doesn’t address the other issues, such as locking Hero Challenges behind one-shot group-only content and high-level masteries.

That’s understandable, though, because changing them would/will require more time and testing than a blanket adjustment to the cost of elite specializations.

ArenaNet has a lot to do on all fronts, so I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for these other changes to be considered. I do hope, however, that the need for them won’t be forgotten, because these issues have a major effect on the player progression experience, and bear directly on the enjoyability of the game.

Definitely. I feel we should still bring up those issues because they ARE important.

Like for example, the bacon thing in auric basin. It REQUIRES a specific class with their elite specialisation progressed to a point where a specific trait is available to grant alacrity to nearby allies.

That’s kittening bullkitten. It truly is. That should NOT be the case AT ALL. Gimmicks, one shot hero challenges and the like need to be reworked. all hero challenges should be made soloable and the rest of the content left as is (with perhaps tweaks to masteries).

All it does is set a much more reasonable expectation for players to be able to get elite specialisations on their alts. This is a good thing, a very good thing, because player choice matters now, there are OPTIONS for obtaining the elite specialisations, and now more people will be able to play more classes more esily. I certainly feel a lot more comfortable knowing that i can level all 9 characters and get access to their elites within a reasonable time frame. I’ll be able to ENJOY the jungle, instead of immediately rushing out and searching for hero points on the horizon.

This isn’t going to be a slippery slope until, and i quote someone here, “Anet hands out legendaries on logins.” These straw mans need to stop. The ability for players to more easily access content and enjoy the game doesn’t mean the game will turn into a ‘press one to aoe instakill everything within vision". The game will not turn into a faceroll. The game will not suddenly turn into toys-r-us. The game will still have CHALLENGE. It’s just now getting the elite specialisations won’t be FRUSTRATING and ANNOYING. there’s a reasonable pace to get it now, the game overall will do better because of this change, and arenanet should be praised for making this decision so quickly. All of you hardcore folk who think the game will suffer from more player enjoyability, isn’t this game an mmo? Where you can enjoy the game with more people?

250 hero points is a major improvement and i’d like to throw my hat in the ring with a thanks for the change. 250 on all characters is a lot more manageable. It’s still work but the goal is much more achievable.

That STILL doesn’t resolve the issue of how hero points aren’t soloable. Or the gimmicky hero points. Or the timers on some hero points.

But, this is a very good start. one that i am content with and hope to see more improvements based on it too.

Why elite spec reqs DON'T need to be changed

castlemanic.3198

I don’t understand why most of you guys feel like you deserve to get your elite spec right away? I feel rewarded for going out in the game and finally unlock those traits and I believe that making them easier to get would ruin the experience.

Yes I understand that for your alts it’s a tedious task. I understand that you may not like the other content like wvw or pvp and don’t want to have to go there in order to get you specializations. But it doesn’t mean that it should be easier to get because YOU do not like having to work your way to it.

Hero challenges are a PAIN. they have issues that need to be resolved, their difficulty needs to be lowered in order for character progression to feel more rewarding. There are a ton of solutions that have been provided by me and others that still grant that feeling of progression without handing it on a silver platter, yet you just blindly ignore all of them and brush a giant stroke saying we all wanted handed to us with an ice cream sandwich and cake.

Some people are asking for that, true, and honestly i wouldn’t object. The elite specs are FUN to play. The workload GETTING to the elite specs makes them entirely not worth it. easier options hurts NO ONE. Granting different difficulties for certain aspects of a game hurts NO ONE. Making character progression soloable hurts NO ONE.

elite spec requirements need to be changed because the current system is so chock full of problems that nobody is enjoying getting their elite specialisations. it’s not exciting. it’s not FUN. this is a video game, it’s meant to be FUN. This arbitrary, useless grindfest that requires atleast 5 other players and a couple of chronomancers to complete all the hero challenges is utterly ridiculous. All hero points need to be soloable, the amount of hero points needed to FULLY unlock the elite specialisation needs to be dropped drastically, needlessly gimmicky hero challenges need to be entirely removed and replaced, not redesigned. anyone who has all the hero points from tyria should be able to unlock the elite spec no problem. there’s SO much that needs to change because the system as it is does not work. it’s not fun. it needs changing.

No one wants all the content given to them to start. No one is asking for full Mastery to start. No one is asking for High PvP or WvW ranks. No one has a problem with the way Strongholds are working or that you have to work towards Raids or Guild Halls.

But the Elite Spec issue is the only one that stands out as a mistake. And if you want to know why I think this happened? It’s because this was one of the few features not tested by the community. It probably seemed good on paper and internal testing. But not everyone plays the game the same.

just taking this part before i reply to the whole thing.

There ARE people who find the raids to be an issue. I havent heard of an update but last time i checked, there were no levels of difficulty for the raids system so that people can enjoy the story without needing full ascended and the free time that amounts to a full time job to play this game. there SHOULD be a way for players to enjoy raids witout needing to break their back of exclude the vast vast majority of players from enjoying that content. having tiered raids is a perfectly fine solution that grants difficulty for those who want it and gives access to players less skilled oor with less time.

On to the rest.

I’m fine with Anet waiting before jumping to make a decision. At least they are aware people are seeing this.

That said, I’m in the group that thinks the Elite Specs and Hero Point system didn’t work. You can list a bunch of reasons why: the Unlocking method of Elite Specs was never Beta tested, Elite Specs are already unlocked in PvP but nowhere else, the current method of unlocking Elite specs is tedious and cumbersome for ONE character, let alone a group… etc. But the truth is that it didn’t work.

Mastery progression was done WONDERFULLY. Progress in PvP was done right. The HoT story was done mostly well (and what wasn’t is being fixed by Anet). Raids and making content harder was done right. All of those are great examples of horizontal progression.

But the unlocking of Hero Points and Elite specs are not. When you’re ignoring most of the story and exploration to unlock your spec SO that you can enjoy the story and exploration… I think the plan has failed. I like gliding. I love bouncing off mushrooms. Alas, I can’t enjoy any of that because I have to hunt down every Hero Point I find. And while some people are fine with the way things are… I don’t think that’s how Anet wanted us to play.

Oh and let’s not forget that some Hero Points are gated. :p Hero points were never a group thing before. They were a reward for exploration. That’s not the case now. Unless you can solo a Champion or have all of your mastery points first.

The only thing worse then the current situation with the Elite specs is the folks who don’t exactly agree that the current system is flawed and just belittle the entire conversation without seeing the other side of the argument. It’s holding back any constructive feedback that can be given.

No one wants all the content given to them to start. No one is asking for full Mastery to start. No one is asking for High PvP or WvW ranks. No one has a problem with the way Strongholds are working or that you have to work towards Raids or Guild Halls.

I don’t blame Anet for this. It’s just one of those things they probably just didn’t see coming. Alas, it is now here. And I hope we get a fix once they realize this isn’t a Weekend Launch issue or Fist Week Launch issue and just an unfortunate (and understandable) miscalculation on their end.

Apart from the above, i 100% agree with this. The lack of BWE testing of maguuma hero points was a BIG mistake, one that lead to this scenario and all the justified outcry (including my voice). The hero points NEED ot be adjusted to be soloable while providing some challenge. I did a hero challenge today that REQUIRED chronomancers. specifically chronomancers for their alacrity and a mango pie for health regen. without chronomancers, the hero point would literally be unattainable. it’;s a flawed design from start to finish when you NEED a specific elite specialisation to have reached far enough to grant aoe alacrity to allies in order to beat a specific hero point challenge.
Champions need to be WAY toned down, gimmicks like the above that REQUIRE certain elite specs to beat need to be thrown outright and redesigned from the bottom up. ALL hero challenges need to be reworked and ON TOP of that, the number of hero points needed to fully unlock an elite spec needs to go WAY down. it needs to be manageable to obtain for multiple characters. i’ve had to stop playing mltiple times because of how draining it was to look for hero points to play the way i want. Yes, SOME challege and some hero poitn gathering is necessary, that ultimate progression is needed and healthy for the game, but this double combo of group hero points, arbitrary gimmicks and the INSANE number of hero points points to a large need to redesign the system as it currently stands.

Tl;dr : Redesign the hero point/elite specialisation unlock system. Number of hero points MUST go down. Difficulty of hero challenges MUST go down. Gimmicks like the boar hero challenge which require chronomancers with aoe alacrity MUST be completely removed and replaced with something else. All hero points must be attainable solo. If nothing else on that list happens, all hero points must be soloable, even the uselessly arbitrary gimmicky ones.

Anet, do you realise what you've done?

We need an official response, group hero point challenges is going too far. this is something that should have been tested in the beta weekends, but of course w never got the chance to try it out. Character progression like this should not be gated by group content. Masteries can be accomplished solo, albeit at a much slower pace than dealing with group content, so hero points should be the same.

Instead not only do these hero challenges require groups to beat, but they also have a timer on them. this needs to change ASAP and we need a developer response about the situation as well. Loving the expansion, but this tiring grind fest to get access to new character progression is way too much.

This is unplayable as solo.

Hero points and masteries, key components of character progression, should not be behind any sort of gate. they should be soloable. Group events, leave them as be, there are solo events elsewhere, group HERO CHALLENGES, KEY to character progression? No. hero challenges should not be gated behind some useless ‘bring 5 people’ wall that just further bars progress. character development should be soloable, just as it has been for the rest of this game.

This is, essentially, my basis for ruling that, from what we can observe, necromancers appear to have the potential for the greatest impact – because they’ve had the greatest impact. We could theorise until the proverbial cows come home, but at the bottom line, necromancers have a demonstrated capability to be movers and shakers without needing to have a society supporting them beyond that which they’ve created through necromancy. The capabilities of others to do so remains purely hypothetical.

There is a mesmer who’s been able to create an army on the fly (or atleast a sizeable squad). Reiko. With mirror echo and mirror of darkness, she could not only create several copies of herself, but she could also create copies of the player and their party on the fly. However she did need her own ministry of purity guards to protect her even with the army of illusions. She also had the ministry of purity at her own hand, though whether that was diplomacy or mesmery trickery seems to be up to debate from what i’ve read in the wiki, so i could be wrong here.

Another example of extreme mesmerism is from the books. Queen jenna was able to not only create an illusion of kralkatorrik (who’s the biggest elder dragon by a large margin iirc) that then ‘converted’ another army into branded, or cast an illusion ON the branded army to see those events, who have a hive mind connection with kralkatorrik, but ALSO was able to stun another army and prevent the illusion from breaking as well. She did have lots of perparation time with an army protecting her.

Koro sagewind also made an illusion the size of the eye of the north with the ether backlash blinding her. And then she created a convincing feint that delayed the charr army heading to ebonhawk-to-be for days while tapping into her life force and subsequently dying, giving the human defenders enough time after her return to wall up and prepare for the next charr attack.

Now i’m kind of doing a double take on the big mesmer achievements. it seems there’s a lot of conditions on their achievements that reduce the effectiveness that they can create. I would have added kasmeer but as you’ve mentioned, mesmers are most potent at dealing with magic and not creating powerful magic of their own.

However i do agree that, atleast presentation wise, necromancers appear to have the greatest feats magic-wise.

Least to Favorite - Rate The Wells!

Well of action: my least favourite as it doesn’t feel so creative. Slow is a great tool and all, but it doesn’t have the same epic feel as the other wells and will most likely be my least used well.

Well of precognition: this took a hit in favouritism because of the removal of unblockable. that simply made this skill so much more interesting and now it’s lost a lot of that flair. Still LOVE the aoe blur on this one.

Well of recall: The aoe chill is great, the alacrity at the end of this is even better. the damage is a wonderful bonus.

Well of calamity: DAMAGE DAMAGE DAMAGE

Well of eternity: As a person who loves building support, this is wonderful. While the delayed heal might cause problems, the condition cleansing is definitely welcome and just the whole skill is great. I can finally retire my mantra support build for something else if i ever feel the mood to change.

Well of gravity: This skill was similar to a black hole in the previous beta, however the reveal version was MUCH more my flavour, having the float at the end of the triple pull. This skill however gained more creativity in this version of the skill while retaining some element of gravity manipulation. Everything about this skill is a wonderful and welcome sight even in its current rendition. Also the mesmer finally got a form of damage elite.
