Gw2 is fine. Forums are negative. People complain about their classes.

I laugh at the people complaining about necromancers, for example. I am a killing machine with my necro.

I laugh at the people complaining about the thief. I am a killing machine with my thief.

I laugh at the people that are complaining about the DR change…I like that it works for dungeons, i dislike that it bugged its way into the world. It will be fixed. Relax everyone.

I think some of the personal story bosses and dungeon bosses have decent mechanics. World bosses/DEs do not. The reason for that, Id imagine, is how would 30 people coordinate efforts? It needs to be toned down so that 30 people dont insta die all the time.

Right, I was about to say that is for dungeons..and I agree with them on that. Finding the easiest dungeon and quickest dungeon to blow through 20 times a day for loot/xp/gold/tokens is bad.

Look at it this way, in a game like WoW, they limit you to badges awarded for one 7 runs per week ONLY. Still, you get the gold/xp/loot as you would, but the gold/xp/loot from farming dungeons in that game is mediocre at best. Definately not the best way to level.

My point is, putting a limit on the rewards for dungeon farming is a good thing. Helps the game by not fluffing everything, and prevents burnout from players.

If this made its way into DE’s, Id be worried. Honestly, I havent noticed any of this other than the ocassional bug where I dont get any reward at all. Then the next DE I do, I get reward. Its random.

Do we have clarification from Anet saying this made its way into DEs?

Hey there. How is the leveling like other MMOs?

Take the “top” 5 MMOs out there:
WoW
Rift
SWTOR
Tera
GW2

WoW: WoW’s leveling has been made so easy, they have reduced the amount of XP required so much. It is very linear. Quest hubs..grab 10 quests, go kill x grab y escort Z in a very “in your face fashion”.

Rift: Rift has one of the best leveling content I’ve seen. It has your traditional quest hubs as above, but the also rifts and invasions if you dont want to quest. The invasions can kill the quest NPCs(this happened to me a lot), so you have to stop them..and this happens a lot. They also allow you to queue for instant adventures which is non stop content, as well as downleveling recently. GW2 has basically all of this.

SWTOR: Terrible. Not even getting into it other than a dead, open world where you cannot venture off the road or risk pulling lots of mobs. Traditional questing, nothing to it.

Tera: the ultimate quest grind. Does not deviate from the kill X gather Y. The combat is the only thing that kept me going here.

Then you have GW2. Compare it to above. I think for a non-sub game, it exceeds all of these games.

How valuable is weapon damage vs stats on the weapon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

As the title reads, which is more valuable? The ‘653-727’ weapon damage on a weapon, or the the stats on it? Also how does equipping it, and keeping a weapon sewap set, effect your overall attack power?

Each game is different. In diablo 3 the weapon damage was EVERYTHING. In WoW, it hardly mattered at all. Just curious where the value should be placed here.

Example:

Weapon A:
100-200 damage
10 power

Weapon B:
75-125 damage
25 power
10 precision

Which is better?

Also, do my stats increase if I have a weapon swap equipped? i.e. will stats increase if I have a second set equipped?

@TheBigCheese: I will admit whole heartedly that they could have chosen their words better with MANY things.
- Things that I was caught off guard, misunderstood, whatever:
In BWE1 I thought I could travel to any zone at any level and be bumped up in level. Not the case. But this was a plan for the game at some point, theres videos of Anet saying so, and a post by Anet on a German gaming site saying why they took it out of the game.
-Traveling back to older zones…30% reward and XP. Meh, kind of disappointed with this one.
-I thought the personal stories would be tailored to your class a bit as well. Very wrong here.
-Gear grind. Poor choice of words saying theres no grind or gear treadmill. But really, there is. At 80 you grind out, if you want, the max stat gear of your choice. Then you’re set! You can transmog other sets for aesthetics, but ultimately you just grinded the top tier gear. Now, when expansions come out will be the test of this issue. Will they give more gear that has greater stats, or simply cosmetic upgrades? If the gear has better stats than the exotic sets, then this game has a gear treadmill like any othe game and I garuntee people will leave in droves because of it. This is a cornerstone of the game and Im really anxious to see how they handle an expansion.

With that said, I dont think they flat out lied about things. It is still a good game, and honestly…I look at something like Orr as my “endgame”. Realistically in level 75-79 greens or blues, while at level 80, Orr is a pain. Its a pain to move through the zones, its a pain to get some of the points(unless you are with the zerg). I look at Orr as the challange at end game.

In my opinion: this game is simply not addictive

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

Everything is just about great but there’s one big problem… it’s simply not addictive. As I’m leveling up, I don’t feel stronger at all and I don’t feel rewarded. Even the skills that I unlock are really boring compared to gw1. A bunch of generic shouts/signets that give damage/crit/etc. I find myself asking myself why I should even load the game, what can I do that is fun.

Gw2 has failed to be “revolutionary”.

I felt it does leveling better than any MMO in the market, including Rift which allows you to queue for instant adventures, has downleveling as well, and a “dynamic world” of sorts.

While the combat isn’t as great as Tera, it is a very very close second.

The graphics are top knotch. The sounds are top knotch.

The stories are decent.

For a no-sub game, I think we got what we paid for. If you aren’t addicted, thats fine..again, youre not paying a sub. Sign off for a few days or week, and then come back.

Suggestion: Heartstone / Home teleport needed

Agreed. Infact, just free travel to main cities would be beneficial. We have to go back there every few levels or so to empty bags, reset traits, buy trait book, craft, story quests…its a huge money sink and one of the main reasons I cannot keep my money. I have no problem with using waypoints for travel from zone to zone or within the zone I am in, or just running. But if I am two or three zones away from a main city, it is a huge deterrent to return to the city.

My friend who also plays walks from two zones away, gripingly and curses the game everytime he does it. I tell him to just use the waypoints, he says its too expensive…not that I blame him.

I am not asking for mounts of any kind, but I do think a hearthstone of sorts would be very nice. With the constant traveling back and forth between your story and the main cities, you burn a lot of money..

And the argument of “just walk” is poor if you are in blood tide coast or some southern-ish area, and must travel to divinities reach.

Suggestion: Lock Target option

in Suggestions

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

Please give us the ability to check on and off an option that locks our target until the target is dead regardless of where we click our mouse.

This might be the third time I am suggesting this but it is one of the most annoying things in the game for me. When playing I like to click into the screen and pan around, to see whats going on. I like to get different angles. It is just the way I play. However, when I do so, I ALWAYS lose my target.

The ability should do:
Lock onto our target so that mouseclicks on the screen does not lose our target
Tab will change target
Escape (once or twice) will deselect the target
Target is deselected when dead.

Please!! This change alone would make me very happy.

Regarding your answer to #2: Does the AI actually get confused or is it a result of their attack animation resetting when a new “object” is within range of melee?

Also regarding your answer to #2: when sword/sword abilities are on CD, and I switched to Greatsword, I would feel like I am not doing the damage that I can if I stayed at max range and whatnot. If I am in melee range, just finished getting off a frenzy, all things are on CD, I could switch to greatsword but wont the damage be pretty meager?

Ok so I have to come back to my thread here for some additional chit-chat

I ran around with sword/sword, staff, and greatsword last night. Here is what I noticed(at level 10).

1. illusions die way too quickly, so this makes me believe that I should shatter them almost immediately. Thoughts?
2. With sw/sw: After I spawn a close with illusionary leap, and then trade places, I burn blurred frenzy. Im left with spawning my phantasm and blocking, but after that Im left auto attacking for a few seconds. I feel vulnerable. Am I doing something wrong?
3. I took into consideration everything people have been saying about the Staff, even Mr. Prometheous(or whatever his name is) who was touting the Staff as the best weapon for a mesmer. Honestly, this early on I felt it kind of lackluster. Autoattack forever while the conditions pile up and clones spawn. Theres no need to drop static field or chaos armor unless the situation calls for it (i.e. mobs are closing in or are attacking you). Why waste a cooldown if you do not need it for the defensive purposes? I just found the staff a bit lackluster and at times disjointed/unsmooth.
4. Greatsword: I really liked this. It felt very smooth from one mob to the next. I liked opening with Mirror blade + mind stab, then either spawn the phantasm or just auto attack until dead. My only gripe is, is Mind Stab worth standing still to cast, and worth the time to cast? Or is auto attacking simply better? If mindstab applied cripple or a small bleed, it would be great.

Overall: I can see myself running with the Greatsword/Sword+sword, but I do not want to miss out on what people rave about regarding the staff.

Any insight would be appreciated.

One other note: I did try out sword/focus using the wall to pull in mobs, then pop the phantasm to aoe along with blurred frenzy. 9/10 times the phantasm was dead in seconds.

Hello,
I am new to the mesmer class(just reached 10 last night). While I am generally enjoying the class, I began to realize that clones/phantasms die within seconds of appearing most times. Does this get any better later on? Im sure there are traits to reduce incoming damage to these guys, but they are getting destroyed it seams. They appear, and then 3 or 4 seconds later they are dead and I have no illusions up.

Any input on this would be appreciated…

Good to hear about stacking power. It seems most viable/best specs for classes stack conditions. I want to try to break the mold. My thief is 80 and stacked with condition, my necro is 20 and stacking conditions. I want to try to avoid that stat this time around just to try something new.

So, if I stacked power, that would obviously effect my sword/swod pretty nicely. How would it benefit my staff? With myself and my illusions putting up loads of conditions, how would stacking power benefit me in this scenario?

I dislike using minions for two reasons, both kind of go hand in hand…
I agree with the OP that it is frustrating that sometimes you leave a fight with your minions HP depleted…when they go down, oops have to wait 30 seconds to recast.

Now, a bigger gripe that I have is that they have minds of their own and begin to attack anything when you are out of combat. Too many times yesterday I was done clearing an area of bandits and I wanted to move on… My minions, on the other hand, had other plans. They decided to stick around the bandit camp beating on turrets. Really? There were some respawns, and by the time I could save my minions from certain death, they had about 3% hp left. Rediculous.

Hello,
I am new to the mesmer class (played one in BWE2 to about 9) and I was wondering what everyone thought of Greatsword & sword/sword as weapon sets…

1. Would they work well together with traiting and stat stacking?
2. Are they “dynamic” weapon sets, in that there is more to do and “synergize” with than mashing the 5 buttons?
3. Are they semi PVE viable? Right now my focus is only on PVE. I dont want to struggle in later levels. I’ve read that early levels are difficult for a Mesmer and people get turned off, however, I was having a blast last night with my Mesmer(up to 6).
4. I assume they have fixed the shattering issues? Illusions and Phantasms deal damage when shattered/Mind Wreck?
5, Regarding illusions and phantasms, is it better to shatter them right away, rather than risk them disappearing or dying? Keep in mind I’ll be solo most of the time.
6. What stats would I stack as a Mesmer?(going Greatsword & sword/sword if it is PVE viable).
7. Are there currently any issues with illusions or phantasms? What is the purpose of them in PVE? Do mobs actually get “distracted” by them? Do they deal much damage? Ive only seen the Duelist deal decent damage, so I am questioning the significance of keeping these illusions out.

Any other comments or tips on the class would be appreciated! I was surprisingly engaged when playing my Mesmer last night…I have an 80 Thief which is pretty engaging, and I have a 20 Necro that I began to like, but fell off a bit toward 20…Looking for that second solid alt.

Dagger/Focus and staff in 2nd weapon slot.
Skill 1 – Necrotic Slash and the 2/3 swing steals life.
Skill 2 – Life Siphon – steals life and does nice damage
Skill 3 – Dark Pact – nice root and low damage (wish we got a better one)

Focus
skill 1 – Reaper’s Touch – bounces off up to 3 targets and heals caster
skill 2 – Enfeebling Blood – Inflict weakness and bleeding on target

Slot 6 – Well of blood – Heal overtime and heals allies
Slot 7 – Well of Suffering – great for the times when you are swarmed with mobs
Slot 8 – Signet of Spite – Great for bosses and hard targets
Slot 9 – Signet of Undeath (this one changes depending on what I am doing)
Slot 10 – Lich Form – SO POWERFUL its not even funny.

So as you can see, I am heavy into life stealing and I run Power and Vitality as my main stats, with toughness my secondary focus.

Hello,
I am semi-new to the necromancer and I have been trying to find builds that suit my playstyle. I want to use Staff and some other weapon set(really have no preference I guess). All that I ask is that the playstyle be semi-involving and dynamic…abilities synergizing with each other, utilizing my own combo fields or conditions, etc. The stat choice does not matter to me, however currently I am stacking conditions utilizing a build/utility choice that puts conditions onto myself, transfers them to the mob via swarm and then using epidemic. I find that, while soloing packs of mobs is good with this, in dynamic events things die too quickly and it really isn’t fun. Its a pain to get off the rotation in time only to see the mob die before I can.

So if you guys could suggest some weapon sets/builds/stat to stack and how to utilize the abilities to synergize with eachother, that would be appreciated!

As stated, currently I am running with scepter/dagger & staff, stacking conditions, transferring conditions and spreading them.

Thanks for the help!

Good evening,
I rolled a warrior and have been playing him on and off for a few days. He just got to level 10, but I am having doubts about the class. I currently stack power and precision, going with Greatsword and axe/axe…trying to go for pure damage. When I fight a move equal or 1 lvl less, I kill the mob with about 1/4 health gone…on the three other toons Ive been playing this isnt necessarily the case against one PVE mob. I have a thief to 80, never had this problem. I have a guardian at 9, and he hardly takes dmg.

Is it my crappy playing or stat stacking or is the warrior just prone to damage?

My issue/question is that all this time I thought the game was not about grinding out the best possible gear. Yet, we will probably be grinding out kharma for cultural vendor tier 3 gear, and grinding out dungeons for dungeon gear. Once we get a max stat set, then what? Wait until the next content patch or expansion? Will they then increase the level cap and give us more goodies to grind for?

As ill-informed as I may be, this seems no different than the traditional MMO, without the raiding to test your skill and the meddle of your gear.

Could somebody help clarify why this is looking to be a gear grind at max level, without the purpose of a raid or some challange to test yourself?

Please put aside notions of explorable mode dungeons(I know how hard they are), exploration etc. Im merely concerned with the fact that Ive read dozens of threads saying this game wont be gear grind, yet here we are grinding.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.
