So I need to frequent these gaming sites to stay informed?

Im sure there are tons of people, like myself, that do not want to read wikis or anything like that to experience content in the game they paid for. You shouldn’t have to rely on a website to provide you information on what is going to happen in the MMO. All of that information should be clearly laid out in the game, in this case it wasnt. I received only one mail, after phase 2 had started, the little event thingy in the upper right hand corner, in no exact words, just told me to help the lionguard invade the karka at southshorn cove…no idea how to get there. By boat, but where?
Since I did not check GW2 website over the weekend, I had no clue when exactly phase 3 was starting until it did. And since we/I have a life outside of the video game, I couldn’t participate in it. Even if I could, I think the lag and 8 FPS would have resulted in me just standing there, smashing the #1 key, hoping to get “gold” for the event.

This one WAS the greatest until this weekend. Now it is like any other MMO…

The hardcore elitists make up a large part of the forum-base. Developers listen to this feedback because its their mains rouce of feedback. These players cry for endgame verticle progression. Developer’s take the first step toward a gear grind, and create player-gated content where the PLAYER discriminates who can get into their 5-MAN DUNGEON GROUP! <— Not even a raid!

Now, those two elements make up most other MMOs, which is the reason most of us walked the road toward GW2…to get away from it. Now that this storm is here, we do not know where to go.

Dont like it dont play you say? If all of the negative-feedback posters on this forum adhered to this, the game might be pretty vacant.

Tyria is good. Combat is good. Graphics are good. Story is good. Dungeons are good. Crafting is good. (Notice all things you can do leveling 1-80).

Gear grinding is not good.
LFG fractal levels is not good.

The above two items are weighing down the “good” thats in this game. I haven’t touched my alt in a week because theres no point. I need to keep up with everyone in FoTM levels.

There are lots of people that disagree with you, and apparently have had a very different experience than you. I am glad you were able to have fun and enjoy everything, lag free and all. But there are those of us that just didn’t see this weekend through rose-colored glasses. I guess these thousands of people play the game wrong.

-I didnt say everyone is 100 gold richer, although there are certainly people that got handed out free candy, and those that did not.
-I received ONE in game mail while I was in the middle of FoTM. There were people in my guild that received dozens of in game mail, some that only received a few, some that received none. The mail system, IMO, was glitched this weekend. Understandable since a lot of the event was.
-I logged on in the middle of phase 2 with everyone in my guild already participating and too busy to point me in a better direction…since you know, that in game mail hadn’t been received yet! “Find a better guild”—eh? A fanboy’s response to every gripe. Well, I’ve already left that guild if youre wondering. “Find a better guild” is a lazy way out to responding to one’s gripes.

Hey, just take a look at the hundreds of threads, and thousands of posts more or less condeming this patch and event in every single aspect. We cant all be wrong can we? we cant all be whiney little kids, as you probably assume, can we? The number of upset/frustrated people far probably far outweigh the fanboys(and their brady bunch guilds who are “oh so helpful, and help all the low level fractal runners, and point people in the right direction, and run dungeons with them and—” desperately rushing to the defense of Arenanet.

In no exact wording, all I read was go talk to some NPC at some location in LA. I looked on the map, didnt see this location. I had no idea how to get find this NPC and how to get to Southern Cove.

And You are incorrect, I’ve seen several people complaining about the lack of information for this event. Im not sure what forums you are reading.

I checked my FPS when I was able to get to Southern Cove, a nice 8 FPS is bareable…right? No.

Q6600, Nvidia GTX 460, 8 gigs DDR2ram. 8 FPS. Sounds like server side lag…whatever the case is, 8 fps is not playable in any game. Period.

I’m hoping that ANET will fix the issues that adding in ascended gear, fractal levels without the ability to skip levels, and progression tied to RNG caused. The patch just released, there’s still room for ANET to change it a bit. Thus why I’m on the forums.

If its not changed, or there isn’t any hit of it being changed, in a week or two. I’ll leave GW2 forever.

This sums up all of my frustration succintly. Thank you. I agree 110%. I am still logging in each night for an hour or two, trying desperately to get into a low level FoTM. Then I log out and go to WoW, which I resubbed to on Thursday when I realized the lack of response from Anet concerning ascended gear. I am now a hair away from 89, I will be 90 by tomorrow night and I want to see what new things await me endgame there(scenarios, challenge modes, etc).

The future of my MMO gaming depends on two things:
-Arenanet’s response to our overwhelmingly unified stance against ascended gear,fractal levels not resetting, prescursor halloween this weekend
-If WoW’s new-found endgame has enough to keep me satisfied for a few hours a night.

In one-two weeks I will know. I really hope that I end up choosing GW2 because I absolutely love Tyria, combat, story, and I love the dungeons. Its everything about this most recent patch that derailed it to almost a point of no return for me.

I cant play the game for fun anymore. I love FoTM too much not to just sit in LA and run it. I run it because I love the dungeon, but the main reason that FoTM is the only thing I do is because I don’t want to log in 3 months from now with everyone “LFG, FoTM lvl 50, 3-piece ascended only pst”, when Im still low level and no ascended gear.

Dont wanna be left behind, get in FoTM today!

If the player logged into LA or Southern Cove at participated in the event to some degree, place a few consortium chests in their mail today.

In response to both of you:

-The event information said “hey, the lionguard(or whoever) is counter attacking the karka land, go help”. Ok, how do I get there? Had it not been for a guild I would have ran around LA for 20 minutes, spamming map chat and eventually getting map chat surpressed by their stupid system. Where the hell is this phase taking place? I had no idea where.

-There are many people like me that didnt participate because of extreme lag/disconnects and bugs. I would venture that I COULDNT participate even if I wanted to because of these issues. Just because I cannot afford the uber PCs as some people, makes me ineligible to experience the final event and thus the “food stamp chest” at the end?

I am grinding FoTM for the sake of keeping up with everyone elses’s level progression, so that I have people to run the dungeon with and have fun. While I completely and whole-heartedly disagree with ascended gear at the moment, I don’t care about it. Until I hit that wall where I need it, I am running this to keep up.

Just checked in, with a slight hope that there would have been a response of some sort about all of this from some of the high ranking staff……this does really not bode well. Too, a lot of talk has spread out to the forums on other gaming sites and blogs, about Anet having dropped the ball, turned their back on the manifesto and so on. All the while asking for clearification on what the new stand means for the game, and what the future plans are for the game as a whole.

And yet….all is silent from Anet HQ.

I guess they think that ascended gear is not a big deal and thta the 10300+ posts in this thread is a very small minority of the population. Probably true, but if you asked the non-forum goer in mapchat what he/she thinks, they would probably feel the same. When I’ve mentioned this to someone in game that hasnt read the forum or patch notes, he was pretty shocked and called it lame.

They just think they know better than us, which is true in most cases but when you have this big of a response from your playerbase, I think they deserve some explanation or better response. They’ve had a week to write up a response, so this wouldn’t be a knee-jerk reaction at this point.

After all these years of supporting GW1 in all its glory and the endless waiting for the release of guild wars 2 i feel kicked in the balls.

After getting close to my first legendary I felt that everything was good. As the leader of one of the big guilds on the Far Shiverpeaks server, I had no complaints. Untill last sunday. I had to miss out on the final chapter. But as seeing the first 2 chapters werent very rewarding, I thought it wouldnt matter anyway. Boy. Was I wrong.

We had players on the trial in our guild for the weekend, and guess what, 1 of those players got 2 precursors dropped from the chest. Other people in my guild had 2 drops aswell. Precursors were about luck and money, now its just unfair buisness. the fact that the trial players even can obtain a precursor is already ridiculious, but 2? really?

I agree OP. I didnt attend because the other events werent rewarding and due to lag/bugs. I didnt think I’d miss out on much. I was so wrong. I feel like an idiot for not attending. This patch has ‘complete lack of communication’ written all over it…from where to go and how to participate in the event, to responses of player concerns regarding the BIG changes to the game.

Well, I just posted a thread about being uninformed as to where to go, how to contribute, and what types of rewards I could receive… I had no idea people had such a high chance at receiving exotics and legendary precursors. I didnt attend the final event because of the lag and bugs of the previous phases, but I would have made more of an effort if I knew I had a chance at those precursors…so I feel very uninformed and left out.

However, the issues with this patch go far beyond just the event itself. They also should respond to player concerns over fractal levels, ascended gear, and some classes feeling left out of changes. There has been a big uproar about fractal levels and ascended gear that they need to address. Any negligance would be a fatal mistake on their part.

They need to address everything, not just one large bit of it. Everything.

So concerning the entire event… I feel/felt very uninformed about the entire thing. From where to start, where to go, what to do, and ultimately the rewards at the end. Had I known that legendary precursors could come from the chest that spawned after the final event, I would have made more of an effort to attend. However, due to lag and confusion I didnt even think twice.

I had no idea that people were receiving some really awsome rewards, probably racking in several hundred gold in rewards. Precursors, several exotics, etc. I had no idea. I had no idea where to even begin or contribute to the event. The only contribution was when we invaded Southern Cove and killed some spiders, which I thought was halfway decent. Still, I had to ask in guild chat where to go. They said “find the icon of a ship..” Were they referring to the drawing of a ship in LA or maybe an actual little icon? I had no idea!

In short, I had no idea how or where to participate without soliciting help from my guild and I had no idea what rewards I could have received if I participated in the final event. Im sitting here on the forums after the fact reading that even though people got disconnected, theres a chance they have or will receive loot soon. Trials got loot, precursors even, etc. I had no idea that this stuff was available. I would have made more of an effort.

So now people have a few hundred more gold than I. And again, I am feeling somewhat slighted and behind everyone else both monetary and in terms of fractal levels. Since the dungeon became availble I’ve been feeling the NEED to log in every day to run at least one fractal a night to just keep up with the coat tails of the people 3,4,5 levels higher. I havent been to Orr, haven’t run any other dungeons, havent played an alt. Nothing. All of my availble time spent in GW2 now is to try to keep up with everyone in fractal levels in fear that I will be left behind… I don’t want to miss my chance at keeping up with everyone and this is just wrong when this is a game that I used to play at my own pace. Dont do the new dungeon you say? I find the dungeon awsome! I love it! Every bit of it! I WANT to experience it. I just want to do it on my own time, at my own pace without fear of missing out and being left behind.

This entire patch and event just created a fear of being left behind by the masses both interms of gold and fractal levels. I am so disappointed. I am trying to think of ways to stay afloat and continue playing the game but sadly my motivation is diminishing.

Fractal progression account wide would be so bad its not even funny. Its terrible that the levels do not reset as it is.

Just curious to see how many people are back into their routine of whatever it is they did, now that FoTM/Ascended Gear grinding/Fractal level grinding(to keep up with everyone) has been released?

Have you been running your normal dungeons, out in the open world doing DEs, doing PVP, leveling alts?

If FotM was set to the highest completed person in the group, then it would completely defeat the purpose of the entire thing. The whole POINT of it is that you have to work your way up. It is a pure progression thing for PvE players with nothing better to do, or that just want something “hardcore” to work on with the higher levels.

There is no reason for the amount of negativity thrown at FotM here. What you people complaining want is a completely different type of dungeon. Don’t try to take away something that plenty of people are enjoying just because it doesn’t suit your taste. Not every single thing in the game is catered to every single player.

I swear, every time I see posts like the ones here bashing FotM it boils down to “I can’t have my way so I’m gonna throw a tantrum.” You could use the same “Well I can’t participate how I want so this needs to change” attitude and claim that all content should be solo-able. If you don’t want to take the MASSIVE EFFORT to guild up for this like other people have mentioned, then it looks like you’re stuck spamming LFG for PUGS and it’s your own fault.

The way the current fotm scaling is set up makes gates the community into hardcore and “casual”. There are threads and threads containing links of interviews with arenanet devs saying there will be no grind, its all fun, no treadmill, all relevant, all accessible.

1) Join a guild
2) Make a guild group
3) Go to LA
4) Enter FotM
5) Profit

Note: if you cant get a guild group, you need to join a better guild. Its called Guild Wars for a reason and you can even join multiple guilds.

Sorry, but that is the way the dungeon is build up. Helping low level fractal runner may take up to one hour. That is one hour that you can’t use for leveling up by yourself.

I agree. A waste of time if you go to a lower lvl. The group should be able to determine the level they want based on the max level a member has finished. Or, a weekly reset. It is definately needed.

Weekly reset on Sunday nights at 7:30EST. After that, people run the dungeon, and try to get as high as they can throughout the week…maybe getting to 15-20(who knows how far people will go). On the following sunday, levels are reset, and everyone is on equal footing to play. Id imagine by sometime wednesday or Thursday night there will be very few low lvl fractals running, but thats far better than what we have going now.

I think most people will agree that the new dungeon is one of the best they’ve seen. I think its a fantastic creation, and I give the development team all the credit in the world for it.

The problem people have is the ascended gear treadmill that will ensue, and the fractal level player-gated mechanism. Eventually, low lvl fractal players wont be able to experience it. It is not because they are casual, it is because they do not have 10+ hours a day to devote to the game. If time spent = hardcore level, then most of us would be hardcore because we’ve already sunk hundreds of hours into GW2.

Casual <> noob. The casuals have every right to experience the dungeon just as the hardcores.

I agree. I don’;t understand why Arenanet went along with this. It makes no sense. Maybe the lead designers were gone for the weekend and are coming into the office this morning to realize the reality of their error. Hopefully people like Colin Johansen see a thread like this, and the 50 like it, and address it. We the community deserve an explanation for the half truths and errors in their decision making. This whole weekend was a disaster.

That makes no sense. Especially since I saw people forming groups for Story mode for at least a month after launch. I still see people asking for it but not as much.

The fact you cannot get a group quickly for lvl 1 Fractals implies there is an issue with the design. Either many people are skipping the content or the design is discouraging helping others out. And was this not the game that built its core design to encourage cooperation, inclusion, etc.

Just think logically. Player-gated content, where the individual sets the gate for the group’s content. If everyone passes you in level, who will be there to run with you at the low levels? IT might not be a huge problem today, although I think it already is, but in a few weeks or months, definately. There is no reset.

And it won’t get better in any way, since there is no reset. So you have 2 choises: Jump on the gear grind treatmill right now, or beeing left out forever and from all future content. Easy as that.

true, once you are left out, you are left out forever, this dungeon is not for the casual players,

maybe if i will not play for another 3 weeks, and try out this dungeon, every one else will be at least at level 10

I Whole heartedly disagree with your first sentence. I am a casual player, just because of real life and time constraints. Do not mistake casual with noob. I know what Im doing and can hold my own just like you or anyone else. Just because I dont have 5 sets of exotics and I dont have 10 hours to play each day doesnt make me(or anyone like me) a noob. Since when did casual become synonymous with “noob”?

All my friends that played the game have left to WoW. I left the guild I was in because I could not play most of Saturday, however before I did they all progressed past level 5.).

Being in a guild should not be the only way to experience dungeons. This is, at the core, a dungeon just like AC or COF. One shouldn’t need to be in a guild to experience this. It isnt a raid.

Hey maybe read the entire post? I understand its not peak hours, which is why I’ll continue doing this throughout the day. Before this past week it took less than 5 minutes to get a group for any dungeon I wanted. Im going to do this every few hours for FotM, level 3, to see if I can get a group all the way through the evening hours. We’ll see what happens but I have an idea.

I am “attuned” (wait a second, this could segway into gear treadmill, right?) to FoTM level 3. I am performing an experiment to see how easy it is to get a group for FoTM lvl 3.

I understand it is not peak hours right now, however let me point out that I’ve been able to get groups at this hour for TA or COF without a problem.

So, around 7am I asked in Map chat for a FoTM lvl 3 group. Waited 10 minutes, no response, not even one person looking for level 3. Many people are looking for 6+.

It is now 8:50am, Im spending another 10 minutes asking for the same thing with no such luck. I’ll report back in an hour or two with similar results Id imagine. Im going to log in every 1-2 hours to see if I can get a group, only sticking around for 10 minutes or so to see if there is a soul in sight to run lvl 3 with me. Chances are, since most people are much further, I wont have any such luck.

Edit: I will probably continue this throughout the day and evening where I can…since I do have a life and cant be logged in 24×7. I will update this original post each time. Whether I find a group or not I’ll update the thread. Just curious to see how difficult it is to find a group throughout the day.

7:00am – No group
8:50am – No group
10:23am – Found a group for lvl 3(25 minutes).
11:52am – No group

This made me laugh, but he is right. Even though the event was the least of my concerns, this patch could quite possibly be Guild Wars 2 downfall. I am just baffled by the lack of response from arenanet around ALL of the concerns that THEIR gaming community as.

-Ascended gear and the gear treadmill (Evety thread that breathes this gets moved into one(stupid idea…) making a 10k post thread. One response from the devs)
-Fractals and leveling system promoting a game where you must play all the time to keep up with the crowd of people. In a few months, if you don’t play this way, you’ll be left behind. A fact.
-Laggy event throughout
-Disconnections without loot
-Confusing event. I logged in on Saturday morning and had NO idea where to go to participate

I wouldn’t get hung up on the title of the game. It is called guild wars, but do you really war with other guilds? No. So don’t get hung up on it, its just a title probably tied to lore some how.

This is a problem.

Everyone is already fractal lvl 5+ and wont accept me into their group. Im still lvl 2 and trying to catch up. The other groups dont want me in their group because Im too low of a fractal level. I thought this game was supposed to enable me to play all content, but I can hardly experience the new dungeon. Sorry, I didnt have hours to play this game this weekend. But now I do, and I cant

I am not in a guild, and choose not to be. I would like to play the game on my own and find dungeon groups as if I was looking for an AC group. But I guess I missed out on Fractals….

So I was sitting in map chat, asking for a group for Lvl 2 fractals.. I posted “LF3m, Level 2 fractal”, maybe twice. The third time I got locked out of map chat for reasons of excessive messaging. The group member I was with eventually did too. We had to disband the group because we couldnt get anyone in.

Thumbs up to Arenanet.

WoW’s gear grind/treadmill is a lot better than Guild War’s gear treadmill. It wont take 300 runs of a dungeon for one piece of top tier gear(ascended).

I can gear myself up quickly enough to raid if I wanted to.

The new dungeons are pretty good, I tried them the other night.

Challenge modes look really neat.

Guild Wars 2 has gone straight downhill in a few days for me, its so sad. Such high hopes, but yet heres another developer on their high horse thinking they know whats better than a 10,000 post thread telling them they dont like the new changes in this weekend’s patch. I am insulted that we only received one response to it.

Then the patch hits, fractals are amazing, I like the new zone…but its buggy as hell. And the fractal level system is just going to promote elitism, and eventually low lvl fractal groups will be hard to find. I dont have the time to grind out fractals to keep up with the rest of the crowd.

I so want to log in tonight and give fractals another try but I feel they will still be bugged and disconnect-y…and I really dont want to read map chat looking for group of fractal +5…and this will just keep getting worse with no fractal level reset.

Pushing me to other MMOs, namely WoW, hell I might even look at SWTOR since its free 2 play now…finish up my stories there. Thats how bad this game has gone in the last 7 days.

Well I dont see how this will work if they don’t reset. Everyone will keep progressing in levels. If you take a month or two off, or a new player hits 80, there wont be anyone for a lvl 1 group.

If the ascended gear isnt a dealbreaker for me, which it still may be, this will be. I wont dare allow my self to feel the NEED to log in and keep up with fractals just so I can keep up with the crowd.

This disconnect stuff is complete crap. Test your friggin stuff first.

Jeesus, I am one step out of the door with this game. The game itself is great, the people behind it…not so much anymore.

And for the love of god please stop merging threads. Every single thread anyone ever creates is merged. Its ridiculous. You guys are on a power trip with a full gearset of ascended gear, while we still only have exotics.

As the title states, do fractal levels reset weekly? If so, please post a link, not heresay.

I love how my group and I progress through the fractal to the last boss, the game disconnects me, and I cannot get back into the Fractal, and it seems to have messed up the progress for everyone else.

Were..disconnects just overlooked when coding this?
