While I can understand this would be frustrating to you, the rest of the game is coded so that you can pick out colors and avoid. Red circles are bed. White circles are OK. The game is just like this, catering to the, theoretical and probably 99% of the playerbase that is not color blind.

With that said, I dont even see the colors during the music event. I just align the circles coming down the ramps with what #1 my fingers are on.

This is why you provide the update BEFORE HAND, so people can download it throughout the week. Then flick a switch and make it live… Another game does this and it is successful.

If they had the update beforehand, do you think they would wait until now to push it? Obviously there were some issues

If they provided the files in advance, Im sure they have the technology to enable said files serverside…limiting the amount of people downloading at once. This is a result of a few million people world wide trying to download the patch all at once. It was going SO slow, then stopped.

My god I hope they don’t screw this one up. Im actually looking forward to this one as opposed to the last one. I can only imagine the backlash they will receive if they cannot launch this off the ground successfully.

This community is pretty good, but since fractals I’m finding way more rude and obnoxious people.
I think the fractal gear grinding caters to the worst audience in the game. Also, grinding is stressing, so people get mad quite easily.
My ignore list was empty before fractals (and I pugged the other dungeons a lot). Now it’s quite long.

The best community I’ve ever seen is the LotRO one, tho. Very polite and mature.

There is a community in this game? Ok, true I am not a veteran with a huge experience of all aspects of this game, havent even reached 80 yet!

Getting close though, so far, the only evidence I seen of a “community” are rare posts on any map chat (mostly its dead though), 2 completely random guild invites and 1 group invite for a map event. Other then that this feels like a single player game…

Sigh… maybe I picked the wrong server or something,

I see people posting about this a lot, that maps are dead. Yes, the mid level 30-60 maps are lacking but they are far from dead. On my server, I would still see a few players every other minute or so. Theres always someone around, always. Even if they are not spamming map chat like Barrens chat from WoW. They are there. Ive asked in map chat “anyone home”. silence. Im doing a DE event on my own, and here come two players to help me out. Not everyone is a forum poster, not everyone likes to map chat. But that doesn’t mean the community is bad. Stormbluff isle is constantly populated, Jade quarry and janthr are too.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I wouldn’t even really put it in the RPG category. It’s more of a Diablo-style action RPG if anything.

The term RPG is being used far too liberally lately.

Do you even know what you’re saying? GW2 not an RPG, its more like diablo ? what the hell?

Story mode: you are playing the part of a hero in Tyria, helping people around your home land and venturing off to join an ancient society to defeat an elder dragon tha thas “risen” the Risen of a long lost nation. Whats not RPG about that?

Is WoW more of an RPG? That game, while rich in lore, has 0 story and 0 role playing. None. Zip. Is Rift more of an RPG? Is Tera?

I hope we dont see an expansion until AT LEAST the summer. Give us monthly events like they have been(and please QA these damn things), maybe small content patch here or there. But I do not want another expansion where I’ll be upping my level, and regearing. No. I want time to enjoy the game at max level, rather than doing it all over again.

I also can live without seeing another ascended piece for a few more months, since it is literally the worst grind Ive ever seen in an MMO to obtain one right now. WAY WAY worse than grinding in a game even like diablo 3 where the whole point of the game is to grind.

While I agree, calling him a noob is pretty negative and I would be a bit taken back as well, the guy should know what he is doing by now. Lvl 80, doing fractals and arah..it sounds like he was dying a lot. At that point, you should know your class a bit, and how to stay alive. And you should know that if you are traited glass cannon, you will die.

So while noone DESERVES to be put down verbally, this person SHOULD be in a position to avoid it. 80 levels of questing, dungeons, WvW…constant danger, you need to know when and how to get out of bad floor, how to build yourself to survive. Come on.

I have a thick skin when it comes to this. But if I see a player just sitting in front of the boss getting two shotted, not moving.. It is frustrating for the group because its becoming a waste of time and time is a premium for most people.

I disagree with posts saying that our backstab crit builds need to be nerfed. Any player that runs a glass cannon build is going to drop a target real quickly. Yes, that person will pump out 15k+ in a matter of seconds. But that person can also be taken down fairly quickly as well. Me, I am running a backstab crit build, but not as glass cannon as most. I chose traits to increase vitality, when I could have increased dmg. I chose traits to make sure that I never run out of initiative, instead of choosing more up front damage.

Its all how you build your character. Me, I chose the path that will leave me with less grief in the end(a bit more survivability, and never ending initiative…unless Im seekerspamming at the end).

Also, I like steal, but it feels very underwhelming compared to some classes class-specific abilities. Not sure what can be done to fix this, but compared to an eviscerate, or deathshroud(yes I went there, if traited…aoe heal, a few seconds of no HP loss, decent damage especially traited…its fine), its underwhelming.

Suggestion: Fix dancing dagger. I think that its damage is pretty good, but the initiative cost should be reduced. The tradeoff: Reduce the range on it slightly. I love the idea of whipping daggers into a pack of pve mobs. But its kind of useless when I can switch to shortbow and dish out more damage. Makes dagger aoe pitiful. However, I understand its application is to cripple. I’ve just always disliked the idea of throwing a dagger at someone to cripple them. It was like this in WoW…sick of it.

backstab build question...

Interesting. Just wanted to see if I am dishing out around the same as others with my build. I am a little under, rocking 6000-8000 and Ive gone as high as 9k.

Ive thought about going other weapon sets but Id have to farm out a pistol then.

The problem I find with a D/P build is that it is an initiative hog. Ive done tests of D/D vs D/P, both kill roughly the same, maybe D/Dis a split second faster, but with D/P I was left with 3 initiative vs 9 with D/D. Traits wouldn’t matter in this case because its essentially the same rotation other than the fact that you need to Heartseeker in the smoke field to put yourself into stealth if running D/P.

I offer utility via utilities. Signet of agility, and shadow refuge.

IMO, D/D is doing more damage pve than D/P.
bigger burst, uses less initiative.

Hi,
I am looking for a small active guild on Stormbluff Isle. By small, I mean 20-50 members…a close knit group. My ideal guild would traverse all aspects of the game.

I currently have 4 80s, with a Thief and I an guessing my Necro to be my mains so far. The other two are a Guardian and Warrior. I plan on leveling every class to 80, picking two or three to focus on.

Anyways, the close knit small active group is the part I am most interested in. If I would be a good fit, please IM me! Prefer stormbluff isle guilds, but might consider elsewhere.

Concerning banners: Even traited to reduce CD, I think their cooldowns are rediculously long. Going from mob to mob, fighting a new pack of mobs every 30 seconds or minute…some of the CDs on those banners are crazy long.

How is six seconds a long cool down?

Arent they something like 180 seconds? I could swear that is what I see when I hover over the banners.

Edit: Ive never used a single banner because i saw the cooldown timer as something like 180 seconds…so if picking it up generates only a 6 second cooldown, then I wouldn’t know ;p. I would need to carry it from location to location?

Ship of the line...how to complete?

in Personal Story

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

Hi,
So a few nights ago I was completing Ship of the Line on my warrior. I am not sure if there was some gimmick way to kill the insane amount of mobs, or maybe I just didn’t read through some dialogue, but this was the hardest quest by far, for me…and this is my 4th character to 80.

The actual ship part was easy. When I got to shore and I needed to destroy the trebuchets, thats when it got rediculous. I kind of noticed, after dying three times, that I could throw those signals flares very fary. But still, each pack of mobs had like 15+, even though they were low level, and they steam rolled the NPCs and then me. Each time. By the time I got to the sharpshooter guy, my gear was all broken.

A mixture of rez zerging/suicides and luck, I completed this in about 45 minutes. Gear completely broken. Cussing at the computer screen.

How was I supposed to clear all of these mobs? If I used the flares on them, it simply knocked them down and did no damage. They got right back up to pound on my skull.

Worst story quest in the game.

So, I read the posts…

Longbow is pretty good for AoE? To be honest, I leveled the warrior to 80 without any ranged weapon. Haven’t needed it. If you say its AoE is pretty good, I’ll give it a try.

I am interested in the shout heals, and I have thought about that, but i tend to pop my shouts like FGJ right as I enter combat to get some burst DPS going. If i traited for heal, used the shout in the beginning, it is useless because I am at full HP. How would you play like this?

Concerning banners: Even traited to reduce CD, I think their cooldowns are rediculously long. Going from mob to mob, fighting a new pack of mobs every 30 seconds or minute…some of the CDs on those banners are crazy long.

And I agree that warriors CAN have great AoE…but in my experience it has only been via greatsword and if they are in front of you. While the # of mobs you can hit may be limited, I don’t think axes are any better. They hit like wet noodles compared to greatsword.

Thoughts?

Hey there,
I didn’t expect a positive reaction from you guys! Thanks for that.

So… I have geared my warrior for power/precision/crit.

I leveled via axe/axe and greatsword, although when I got to Orr I began running axe/mace and greatsword.

I hit cursed shore and it is very frustrating. I was able to get through straits and malchor’s without a lot of trouble, but now I just feel way more frustrated. The constant pulls backs, the constant knock downs, the constant cripples and immobilize…

I am open to suggestions to up my survivability a bit, get rid of these CCs, and increase damage a bit. Open to new weapon sets too. I haven’t read a lot of your responses in this thread, so I’ll do that now, but keep them coming. Right now the warrior is at the bottom of the list in terms of the “fun” factor for me. Looking to re invigorate that but not getting my kitten handed to me all the time.

This game IS dying

cesmode.4257

Hi all,

First i want to say i have played for over a solid month and have 3 lvl 80’s in exotics and the game has really became stale now. I have played the new Fractals got up-to level 6, even tho i really am not interested in it at all along with the new grindy gear, which seems such a pointless update.

I have to admit Anet really failed on this part, why did you have to be try hard and go on the gear grind wagon? Why not fix your already broken game like bugs and poor performance instead.

I find myself just doing dungeons for tokens to transmute my gear for aesthetics and now it just seems pointless because im just standing around in LA doing nothing looking at chat “LFG Fractals lvl ~” I mean the only thing im looking forward to is Wintersday and judging from the other “epic” events maybe its not really something ill regret missing.

Yes ive done WvW and SPvP and they are not all great and get very boring fast (for me). Even i was a pvp junkie in WoW ive seemed to lean for PvE in this game. Yes this is my opinion so don’t flame me this is just how i am feeling, lost any motivation to do much in this game. Grinding for legendary seems pointless and just pure e-peen and looking at the state of prices for anything, its become a ridiculous grind (guess that’s what keeps some people playing?) not for me i guess.

So basically, the game isnt fun for you.

Not fun for you = Dying.

The gear treadmill that was mentioned doesn’t exist.

Edited for brevity.

You are wrong.

Take the following into consideration:
1. According to anet, they have always planned to introduce Ascended gear.
2. According to anet, people reached legendary weapons and exotic weapons far faster than anticipated.
3. To offset #2, they introduce Ascended gear, which kind of contradicts #1. They also say that ascended is meant to bridge the gap between exotic and legendary. Exotic = Legendary. No bridge to gap. They have said this in many video interviews. Look them up. A fact. They went against their word here.
4. Assuming I dont care about the above three items, every so often..maybe 6+ months, they will introduce more ascended gear. Replacing your exotic gear. A step on the treadmill?
5. They say that they might increase the level cap for big expansions in the future. Along with that comes new gear with new stats and “ilvl”. Treadmill. A different form of treadmill, in that it is accompanied by new level, but treadmill nonetheless.

My point: It is a treadmill. They are going to increase the stats of items and upgrades in the future without increasing the stats of the gear itself. Still a treadmill, dont be naive.

With that said, still a great game even though I dont trust this developer at all to make good on their word.

OP:
No, the game is very much alive and well, with a lot of people playing…I’d guess second in the MMO market, in terms of concurrent playerbase compared to WoW. Rift would probably be third…a distant third.

In the beginning I was one of the most avid defenders of the game. After the November 15 patch, like 90% of this forum, I was livid with anger. I still am but I am making my peace with it. The game, at its core, is the best out there. None compare in graphics, world immersion(sp), MMO gameplay, combat(although TERA takes the cake hands down on this one), dungeons, etc. Im really liking the holiday events this game has to offer too.

It has its flaws, big big big big flaws. But its still better, in my opinion, than anything else out there. Maybe not as much as WoW because the developers didnt turn on their core playerbase.. But its close.

In any case, Warrior WAS #2 on my list, but now its down at the bottom near the guardian. I put the guardian at the bottom because, to me, theres no synergistic builds for it. At least the guardian has Shout healing builds, hp regen builds, control/damage builds…still squishy as kitten

First, my warrior is the 4th 80 for me…Thief, Guardian, Necromancer, Warrior…in that order.

My warrior is like the red-headed kitten child of Arenanet.

I re-trait a few times to add more survivability, but end up dying a little slower. It is so wierd, I have the same HP on my necromancer in Orr and I am able to take on 5+ mobs without much problem. On my warrior, if I am not running with a greatsword and if they are not all in front of me, forget it. I feel squishier than my necromancer and thief.

Finished the story on my warrior, might finish the cursed shore map completion, and then I am done. I loved the warrior up until about lvl 70.

The game was not designed with designated healers or tanks. There are no roles. At its core, you are responsible for your own survival.

Sadly, had you done your researched or even looked at the game in the slightest you would have recognized this before purchasing.

The game, in my opinion, is leaps and bounds better than any game with healers or tanks because you can trait yourself to whatever extreme you want and still should be semi viable in dps.

On necros being "broken"

in Necromancer

Posted by: cesmode.4257

cesmode.4257

I have no main “class” although my thief is the most geared via dungeon sets and I have played him more than any other class. However, I am leveling each class to 80. About a month or two ago I got the Necro to 80, and gave up because Orr was killing him…conditionmancer and condi spreading.

Tried it again yesterday, vampire build via wells and I am loving it, I can take on 4 or 5 Risen in Orr without much problem… its fun.

I specced to be somewhat tanky or very self sufficient, however, I am not one of those kitten in this game that believe I am a tank, that I can hold aggro and soak up hits. However if I can stay in melee range a little longer and maybe have the boss focus on me a few extra seconds, then thats my role. But I will be dodging out and letting someone else take a few hits as well.

With that said, I tend not to fret over the nitty grittyness of a spec or ability unless it just doesn’t work. It all will be balanced in the end.

So from a player that really has no main class, I think Necros are fine. Conditionmancer was fun and OP to level up. Running d/d and d/wh now in Orr and I am just as OP. I will try my hand at a few dungeons, Im sure we’ll complete with minimal effort like usual. The point is, you have no idea how much damage an equal geared <insert other class> does compared to your necromancer. There is no damage meter. Relax. Just enjoy the friggin game. Your damage will never stay the same and your abilities will never stay the same, because the developers will buff and nerf it accordingly. So why bother worrying about something you cannot control?

Dont fret guys..

Oh wait, I forgot. Im not a pro-sPvP player like some of those guys in that interview a week or two ago. I dont know 100% of the ins and outs of every class and ability. My opinion and word mean nothing.

Hi, so about 1-2 months ago I got my necromancer to 80, and stopped progressing in the story because my necro was getting pounded in orr by two mobs at any time. I was a conditionmancer, focusing on spreading condis to mobs and switching to DS to steal life force. Worked beautifully while leveling but once I hit Orr I had so many problems. I was getting creamed when i would take on more than one mob. I eventually and literally said “kitten it”.

Then came “the patch”. I took two weeks off, came back and leveled a warrior, who just hit 80 last night. I figured I would try to finish the Necro’s story..

Respeccted to a vampire build, focusing on life siphons via crits and life siphons via wells. The nature of the build, where I put my traits, gave me a lot of power/toughness/vitality so I can take a few punches. Weapon set, intially, was D/D but tried D/Wh. Both are equal in my opinion.

I took on 6 or 7 lvl 80 risens without much issue. I soloed a veteran risen giant to about 50% without the Flesh Golem(he was on CD).

I see a lot of people here thinking that life siphons and vampire builds are weak, I disagree. It stored a LITTLE faith in the necromancer class for me. I am liking this build because it allows me to be semi-tank. When I have time, maybe I’ll post the build.

Whats a job? Just sounds silly to refer to anything in an MMO as a job.

I think you mean Profession, or traditionally “class”.

It would sound silly to you, the average GW2 white knight with no experience of any other game.

In most online games, there is variation. A monks job is to heal. A mage’s job is to dps. A warriors job is to tank, there is also support, running etc.

In GW2 your job is to auto attack. And they can’t even manage to balance that.

1. Ive played about a half dozen MMOs, sir. Not new.
2. You clearly didnt research this game. Its meant not to have roles. Sorry to disappoint.

Not even worth replying to his threads. Just read his previous posts. He’s obviously butthurt over something they did and does nothing but spread lies about the game. Not sure why he hasn’t been banned yet.

To whom are you referring?

Condition thieves, an easy fix for Anet

OP: Thats kind of the point? Thats the purpose of the build and it is not OP. To be honest I think that build does pitiful DPS. Compared to a condi d/d thief that blossoms everything while dropping caltrops..watching the world bleed..p/d condi thieves do not compare.

This is not an OP build, neither is a condi d/d build. Thief is very well balanced. Even if you are a glass cannon backstab build. If anyone gets a hold of you there, youre dead.
