Is this related to once in a while jumping to the side? I had so much “fun” at Flame citadel path 3 when I used my rocket boots nad rolled right off the narrow path. Everyone laughed…was funny I give you that expect I had to run the whole way again =/
Here’s my take on a hammer engi :
- is an attack chain applying burn on the last hit for 1s
- is a blast finisher similar to the guardian hammer #2, but more utility (cripple? weakness? blind?) and less burst dmg.
- I could see a rocket powered gap closer on the hammer. The hammer tries to get away from the engi, maybe makes a loop-de-loop, and drags you to your target. No additional effects besides just dmg so a lower c/d can be justified.
- i’d put the pull here on this one. I really like that magnetic idea.
- has the engi ducking under the hammer while it “detonates” dazing AoE targets for X seconds, don’t know what balance would be.
Just my take.
REALLY like this one. Got everything one would wish on a hammer for the engineer. At least it is not a shape shifting one :P (I’m sorry but I still can’t get over that).
I’ll try out that static discharge build you’re using looks interesting and I am working on my second gear set to be power based.
Good video, nice choice of music usually don’t like those PVP video music.
Thanks all for your normal feedback, so almost none of you think engi’s lack overall compared to other profs?
If we lack one thing that is a REAL ranged weapon aside from granades.
Sure I can increase the range of the rifle but does that help the overall damage capability of the rifle? Not that much as most of the rifle is more shotgun oriented and more CC.
What has the warrior? The rifle with 1200 range on most skills. The ranger? Well bows?!
Even the guardian’s got quite some range with their dinky scepter but the way to deal good damage with the engineer is to go up close and personal or use granades(which can get annoying after a while).
Pistole might be fine but still doesn’t have that much range and people could kite you(which is unlikely as a good engineer will get to you easily…but it could still happen).
Maybe we’ll be getting a real ranged weapon that isn’t granades but as of now that I’d say is our main weakness aside from our not so perfect invention tree. Damage is alright, if you wanted you could go hybrid and survivability is up the roof. I played a necro before creating my engineer and my things to survive were DS(which is strong don’t get me wrong) and 2 dodges.
As an engineer I got seemingly endless vigor, TONS of cc, mobility to get away and some nice condition removal on top of good survival traits in most cookie cutter builds.
Also the engineer is the only class that can stack burning damage that high..other can stack some but not as much..so much about condition damage. Vs. multiple targets? Ok the necro’s got that one. Direct damage? Ever seen a rifle engineer with SD? I’ve done quite some damage myself in sPvP with that combo. While I’m at the rifle: rifle+net turret+bomb kit+ram is just ridiculous! All that CC which is only challenged by the warrior.
Toughness is not everything.
Ow boi league of legends…
Anyways I think the hammer that is bound to happen will feature rocket power but not that type of rocket power.
We need a melee weapon to name our own and I’d prefer a real melee weapon over any transform weapon..how would you exactly do that? Not only technical but model wise a herculean task. I can already see the guardians crying because we’d look much cooler then them especially with Juggernaut which would be a cannon too then.
They’d basicly have to give every hammer a second skin to use this idea and…let’s all be honest they won’t bother.
I’d rather have plain old hammers engineer style with instead of a leap skill a rocket powered leap and all that nice stuff. Maybe some CC and something with a twist other hammer classes don’t have currently but not a shape shifting hammer which would on top of being hard to do be a kitten to balance(g).
Get used to the fact that you simply can’t beat everything no matter what build or class you run.
On top of having something unexpected. An engineer never stops to amaze someone. One could have a bomb kit and easily get away from you or the other could have granade your shadow refuge(on top of having magnetic inversion which is awesome to deny thiefs one huge stealth source).
Best hint really is expect the unexpected. Not all engineers can be beaten by you and not all engineers can beat you.
I especially love the bomb kit in wvw paired with rocket boots or shield offhand and I can stealth too. Your shadow refuge? I’ll jut a fire bomb in there with a glue bomb and you’re stuck no matter if you have condition removal every something seconds in stealth you’ll still get burned. And that barrage of shots with the mainhand pistol in stealth? If you’ve got not many condition skills we can get rid of it with many of our skills.
I think the main reason you’re having issues is engineers getting rid of your conditions..maybe a condition build against and engineer isn’t the way to go as not many engineers run without condition removal(I don’t know about you other guys but I’m rather scared of necromancers loading me with conditions).
And then we mention automated response which might be more annoying to play against say a HGH user who usually uses the nifty power to remove conditions by drinking elixirs. Just saying but I love automated response against condition builds. From suddenly tons of damage to no damage as long as I’m under 25% health.
Best way to kill an engineer is really to expect everything and use everything you’ve got. Don’t focus on 1 condition and don’t forget to back off if you can’t win.
If only I had a batarang…
Well, believe it or not but the greatsword isn’t the only means of high damage output…people do use two axes or even an axe/mace set-up. Heck, even axe/sword. Sheesh, even hammers are fine and anybody who nit-picks about using anything other than a greatsword is just some elitist snob to begin with who gets off on splitting hairs. The longbow is also a pretty handy thing to have around because of the crowd control capabilities and AoE attacks but as it has already been said, if you don’t truly need to use it, then get in there and do some toe-to-toe damage with your melee weapon(s). But if you do have to fall back for legitimate reasons, then I really don’t see why using a ranged weapon would be an issue as opposed to not doing anything at all or even exiting out of the instance completely.
I think I should’ve eleborated on “something cookie cutter” meaning axes. I’m fine with axes but I’d still prefer a totally ranged option(or one that mainly uses ranged combat but has a fallback like a shield or something =) ).
I’m aware that you can play something different than the GS but some people look at you funny(yes those elitists). I’d just like to have the ranged build option to play my warrior again other then that I can play my other classes and “can” my warrior for the time being(pun intended). Maybe some patch will give the bow new traits to look into.
They never said giving all weapons to all professions, they ONLY said adding new skills and traits for each professions.
Honestly, of all the available weapon types there, only Hammer somewhat fits with Engineer’s theme, using anything else like Focus or Sword is just weird.
If anything, while other classes get more weapon types unlocked or simply getting new weapons, we will probably get more unique kits imo.
I’m hoping they’d add a kit that’s leaning more toward long range combat, with an attack speed faster than that of Grenade Kit’s flying speed…

http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/07/18/guild-wars-2s-colin-johanson-outlines-big-plans-and-course-cor/
Although Johanson couldn’t commit to a timeframe, new weapon types and expansion of current types to more classes is absolutely in the works.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/473/feature/7597
What’s more is that the team is also working very kitten finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon and their own weapon skills for those previously locked weapons. Engineer plus Hammer? Check. Again, there’s no specific timeline for this, but a new progression system is coming
You’re welcome.
Hammer, sword, bows…just no.
I like the tech edge to Engineer. I would prefer to see new skills that can be swapped out with existing weapon skills. I would like to see more control options for Rifle, like the Warrior’s knockback. I would like to see an animation similar to the thieves Unload, perhaps with less damage but something like Cripple. I can see more net options, more bola options, etc.
Lets keep the Engi on the Tech side. More steampunk clockwork please.
I can understand sword but why not bow/hammer? Also changing weapon skills on existing weapons will just be a dream I’m afraid..I’d love to do so myself but won’t be happening anytime soon.
Also the hammer is the tool of crafty professions like carpenters, blacksmiths and all that jazz…why not give it to engineers, who certainly used a hammer to craft their gadgets(or is there a Q who builds them? I want to meet him, throw a bomb in his face and steal his hammer for myself =) ).
And the bow is not technical true but what about the arrows? Arrows with gadgets on them like explosives could be possible. They could make it a long range weapon for us which we really need(I don’t like granades to be the only long range weapon we’ve got that is really long range).
So I’ve found a fun build for WvW without using elixirs yay me.
Now I’d love to do the same with PvE except I don’t care about elixirs there so I’d rather use them then granades…anyone could help me with a non granade pve build that is for condition damage?
I’ve done some thinking on myself but can’t think on a fitting build to help my team out at all or rather I haven’t really tried my whole potential with all builds I could come up.
The most recent thing I’ve been thinking about was something like this : http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcQQJAqalspSXnvy3F17IBoH5lv4V0jHD5J/pAbB-jQyAIsASLAJCA5wioxWNLiGreBTbKkqgjsDRIFA-e
Will I be dealing enough damage with this? I know I know it won’t be as good as granades but maybe someone can give me advice on this one or recommand me on something different that doesn’t use granades(I’m getting the “claw” when I do more then 1 dungeon run).
Thank you for taking your time.
Hello warriors!
I’ve had my warrior for a long while and haven’t really played her ever since I got her to 80 reason being I HAVE to use GS to do good damage or use something else cookie cutter which made me play other classes.
I’ve always loved the longbow but when I joined groups and only used my LB or my axe/shield people got mad at me and booted me out of groups.
How viable would a longbow build be nowadays? I played my warrior like 3-4 months ago and have only briefly played not following the patch notes of the warrior that much.
IF it is viable what gear/weapons would one pick?
Thanks in advance.
Until just recently when I just randomly thought hey I got some slots to fill and made an Asura engineer I’ve never touched the engineer class outside of sPvP(where I made a character randomly for that reason only). I LOVE it. Quickly leveled my cutesy wootsy little Asura to 80 and I still love it.
I got almost all classes but the engineer’s the best by far.
The ONLY think I want is a hammer other then that I’m totally happy with all the things and the high skill required unlike other classes.
What about going the completely opposite way but still sticking to an Elixir Gun build?
Full Elixirs, 4 of them in fact + Elixir Gun, 30 Alchemy to get HGH to maximize Might stacks on party/self or alternatively pick up +20% elixir duration, whichever fits the situation better?Gets -20% Elixir CD, HGH / 20% Elixir Duration, -CD, Dmg and Range for Elixir Gun, 20 points to spare. Elixir Layouts are always H&X, with the 2 utility slots varying. Say B&U for solo, B&R for some dungeons, C&R for others, U for projectile shielding in WvW, and so on.
Been doing something similar for sPvP exclusivly 3-4 months ago when I didn’t play my engineer mainly and just tried out PvP builds with all sorts of classes. Pretty fun actually but don’t know the viability nowadays.
I totally agree to this. Elixir H is usually used to protect isn’t it? So why is it that I get a 66% chance of giving me something to survive and a 33% chance of swiftness which I can get easily from other sources already…unlikely to change(as I don’t think A-Net reads these….they favor them thiefs and guardians) but one can hope.
Torch and hammer are good. I see no reason for a bow or sword, though.
Why not? A bow with technic on them could fit. LIke explosion shots that burn and maybe some backward rocket jump where your character jumps and shoots an arrow on the ground to jump backward that way…anything like that would be fun to watch and try.
I’ d still love hammer..torch would be ok. Sword I don’t like as every’s got swords and swords are boring on top of totally not fitting with the engineer. Nice technic in a hammer or LB? I can understand but a sword? Not so much unless you’re going all (was it dead rising or dead island? ) on it with electro blade.
Naturally we get a new weaponkit.
Weaponkits are our “secondary” weaponslot. If they just added mainhand weapons we’d just have Hammer or Rifle and Grenadekit. Pistol or Sword and Grenade kit. etcetc
Not adding any new weaponkits would be very unfitting of the Engineer theme, aswell as unfair because it meant we’d get far less potential new combinations.
For example, a Thief could combine two new weapons thanks to weaponswapping, but we’d just be able to pick one new weapon, along with the same weaponkits we’ve been using for over a year now.
Who says we won’t be getting a real, new weapon type as well as new kits?
Are you a dev? Unless a dev gives us evidence we’re all just speculating.
I don’t see why we can’t get a real hammer(WTB Juggernaut then btw =) …unless we get a mace which would be unfortunet).
I also don’t see why an Elementalist won’t be getting a new weapon and that would basicly be the same issue now wouldn’t it?
Think outside the box: giving us something new like – let’s be wild – swords(very unlikely) why shouldn’t this be a totally new way to play? It’s not only new weapons, skills but also traits IF it comes down to it.
Doesn’t matter if one breaks a theme if it fits the class they’ll add a new weapon type and not just a kit(there was one article that specificly mentioned engineers with hammer for example…can’t seem to find that article anymore unfortunetly..some mmo site).
But back on track sorry for derailing the topic.
- Pistol is used because static shot is amazing , you can use shield and double sigils
- People dislike rifle’s hipshot animation
if anet were to add a decent 1 handed weapon, people might stop using pistol anymore
There’re more positives about the pistol then just static shot. Poison dart is also amazing on power and condition build.
BUT I think it could use more CC especially when I look at other classes having more CC on their weapons or a tini tiny but more speed on 1 would help me love the pistol even more.
And I don’t think people will switch if they add a new 1 hanced weapon. I will still play pistole unleass I get 2 handed hammer which is a totally different thing…you might’ve noticed but I like hammers =).
More weapons inc soon:-)
do you have any evidence to support this?
Although Johanson couldn’t commit to a timeframe, new weapon types and expansion of current types to more classes is absolutely in the works.
also this : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upcoming_changes_and_features
I WANT HAMMER!!!!!111eleven
Seriously there’s no reason the tool of a carpenter, blacksmith or other crafty profession can’t be our tool.
(edited by cloudysan.4397)
TBH I don’t care about other people anymore and them saying a class is bad or a class is good. I’ve not had such a blast with the other classes then leveling my engineer in all seriousness.
Thief? Too easy, too spam heavy.
Warrior? Overplayed and my longbow build isn’t as effective(and gets me booted out of dungeon groups).
Guardian? Yeah right…
Elementalist? The only shining light. Tons of fun to play with D/D because of the combo potential.
Ranger? Why do I want a broken AI? Wish pets worked better so I could be a beastmaster.
Necro? Also ok. But no MM build I usually liked in GW1 as the AI is baaaad.
Mesmer? Challenging…but not really fun for me.
Not saying engineer’s got no problems..we’ve got tons of em one being not having much variety in our weapon sets aside from kits.
I’m also not trying to downplay the other professions but I don’t really like all of them and trying to be deviant in some of them is very hard(see warrior trying to main longbow).
It does change later on in WvW once you’ve got more skill points IMHO. In zergs using granades with 30 points in explosives increases your damage potential by 33%(well it is one more granade, right? =) ) and if you’re a roamer you’ll have more possibilities for survival and all that jazz. At 68 it should open up a little more but the final finishing points should help even more. I’m also just 75 atm but I noticed a difference once I had more points to spend.
More weapons inc soon:-)
Soon™
I like the pistols more because it makes me feel like a duelist. Overall I like condition damage more then anything but that could be just me. In other games I usually favor the DoT classes and here it is condition damage.
Warrior’s long bow is an actual weapon, FT is an utility skill…
but yea, Blast finisher on #2 makes too much sense, it needs to happen
Wait a kit is not a weapon in your opinion? Then why do we only have 3 weapon options and only 1 at a time?
Not really that logical. They should change the FT anyway and I agree with 2 being a blast finisher. Anything else doesn’t make sense tbh.
Greetings fellow engineers!
I’m kind of new to engineers but I’d love to know if any of you could help me with running a gadget oriented build for small scale WvW(me and a couple of friends..no big zerging or maybe sometimes all alone when I’m bored).
I’ve looked at tons of HGH builds and I’d say it is quiet easy to get it to work but one with gadgets?I don’t really like to only use elixiers and wel…I dunno really. I fell in love with the rocket boots and I’d love to support that love. Ontop of that I prefer P/P over nades and all that jazz except for the toolkit which is a nice, handy tool to use.
Oh mighty engineer pros help me out! =)
…while I am at it what gear should one get going for P/P condition? There’re tons of options. I read about Rabid, Rampagers, Carrion. I’d love to survive but also kill so would a mix help? My warrior which I no longer play as it got boring uses half berserker and half knights…something like that possible with the engineer?
Hope you can help the confused me.
Thanks!
I named mine Cait Lycori as Lycoris Radianta is my favorite plant, my necro is a sylvari AND that plant can be poisonous.
Nemesis may I ask something? I’ve been searching your channel for something like that for Condition but could not find anything(maybe I overlooked)…did you actually do one especially for condition with the recent changes?
Check this sub-forum for the patch notes. Every thread named “Game update” is one of them.
Oh thank you. Totally forgot to check there lol.
classes have changed too much to list to be honest change wise so best to look that up in the notes.
If I could find it =) I’ve been looking everywhere but I can’t get a nice list that lets me choose what patchnote I can look at. I just get the most recent patch note when I google for it so…yeah.
..what were the big changes? Last time I went on was when the living story thing started. I didn’t play due to some personal problems and due to GW2 annoying me as I couldn’t play what I initially planed to play(Necromancer). How much has changed? Can I finally inflict horror into the hearts of my enemy?
And any other changes regarding classes, the general group meta and all that stuff? New skills, or new places to explore?
I’ve finally come to the point where I can choose what to put in my armor which is quiet exciting!
But I’m wondering what to do with my stats. I’m full Valkyrie armor with Berserker d/d and berserker Accessories(still need to finish up backslot and rings but the rest is exotic).
I’m currently running 15/30/25 which is quiet unorthodox I think(haven’t seen it anywhere at least) to farm some dungeons for gear and stuff. But for WvW I’d want a 0/30/30/10/0 build.
My current overall stats are around 41(with Sigil 46) critchance, 85 critdamage, ~1200 vit and toughness and almost 2k power and 1700 precision.
Now my question is: will my toughness and vitality be enough for fractals(been avoiding them because of my “bad gear” not having all exotics yet as I said rings and well one dagger is still off)? And will it be enough to survive at least some blows in WvW?
And what would you recommand for runes? Should I even go for runes? I’ve been thinking about getting Orbs to improve my critchance/damage.
This is the first time I even got so far with a character in GW2 and the thief is quiet fun but I’m a lil confused and I’d love some expert thiefs to help me.
Help is much appreciated!
fact is fact
thief is easy clas for wvw
try an clas without an safe escape mechanism and you will understand players reaction
Class*
And OP is playing ele….HE SHALL NOT COMPLAIN!
Other classes like Engineer and Rangers have harder time getting away but that was not argued and is common knowledge.
Overall I think thief has a different playstyle. It is by no means easy in WvW but if people like you run around with full Zerker armor and get killed by GC thiefs it is not our problem and you shouldn’t complain.
What I mean by having a different playstyle is that he is not IN the zerg but outside and waits for weak people getting away to finish them off or he runs alone and looks for small prey. Thiefs play the way they’re supposed to play: in the shadows grabbing people who are unaware.
(edited by cloudysan.4397)
Cuz it doesn’t need to be uber fast to fit a thief. Plus points for the awesome scene it is from(that probably noone knows =D ).
Well, Mesmers and Thieves LORE wise use the same type of magic, thieves are just more shadow magic, while mesmers are mind magic.
But this is why Mesmers can stealth and teleport, they have denial magic, but shadow magic is also denial magic.
So, a thief can create clones using denial magic, but they wouldn’t be as good as mesmer clones, as mesmer stealth isn’t as good as thieves stealth.
All that plus where does the thief get the thiefs guild henchmen? He pulls them right our of his…you know?
Won’t they cound as some kind of clones too? =)
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Stealthing-a-detriment-to-your-group-in-PVE/first#post1406236
Just a couple threads below yours.
Basicly the same thing.
“Tons of numbers” is probably a bad case of reflecting tons of projectiles.
Not seeing tons of numbers is your opponents getting wiser at last and not attacking you with projectiles while you are doing Dagger Storm
Gotta agree with this. People are starting to get clever and not attack thiefs with ranged attacks.
In PvE I noticed I hit the same amount as I usually do so I don’t think anything was ninja nerfed.
Why are you using Venoms?
This
I’m kind of wondering why you’re using venoms, too.
Poisons are not all that great. If you want to go condition damage I’d recommand using caltrops, SR(Shadow Refuge) and something depending on the situation. Bleeding is sooo much better. The venom share is quiet debateable tbh. Some people like venom. I’m not one of them because they’re too gimmicky.
But IF you want to go venom build get some more venoms!
Signet of Shadows in dungeons is generally bad IMHO! Put something different like the vulnerability venom.
Epic fail if all stand this close to you for last refuge to trigger IMHO.
It is just a l2p issue if you ask me. No need to p off your group when you stealth them all in a boss fight. Also you usually use shadow refuge to go and rezz someone..if all run in and rezz there’s a need for more communication.
I’d love for some P/P love. They’re fine and all but still got no purpose which is kind of sad and I really love that set(been running it in dungeons lately).
Did P/P SB today AC all ways. Fun thing and no wipes whatsoever. Great team and I think I did fine too.
Just a matter of playstyle and other people as well.
I really don’t get why the fanaticism on the hoods.
Maybe it is because it is (arguably) the only good looking hood and some people hate to run around with a mask.
Hello everyone!
I’ve been wanting to do some Guild Wars 2 Videos on Youtube.
But I do wonder about the legal issues I could come across. Is it allowed to use the Guild Wars 2 and/or Guild Wars 1 music in a GW2 video? Either being the real background music or use it from my CD/digital track from iTunes?
Help is much appreciated!
/edit
Forgot to mention for a non commercial use only. I don’t want to earn money with these videos I want to make.
(edited by cloudysan.4397)
Looking at the other races the Sylvari have better hair and I at least like more hairstyles then from the other races.
But indeed they could’ve done some more with all races and their hairstyles.
I’d say if you’re just playing a Sylvari because of a sound bug…well my friend we’re all happy you moved on.
Hopefully that sound means the screaming I always hated about my Sylvari. It is my favorite race but I do not like that sound.
Hopefully thiefs will get more PvE power! They can be helpful at dungeons especially if you need to take care of special things like CoF path 2 the player that takes care of the assassins that try to kill Magg. Did good with my warrior…better with a thief. But back when you did the whole one guy run in and try to hold them off of Magg I imploded within 10secs without stealth.
In WvW there are certain places where you can inf arrow up. SB is def. useful for this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHkisuqfhbo
Was posted recently here on the forum. Will help =) and make many many people break their keyboards.
Lovely! I generally love D/P but prefer D/D myself. Good to see some D/P people!
I’d say if you’re running d/d get some condition damage and press 3 for the win. The bleeding is just madness. Also caltrops on your utility bar helps greatly. You can easily take on 3-5 enemies and even more if you trait for thievery and get the trait that drops caltrops when you dodge.
That should help you with your soloing problems.
I think we indeed should get a good source or fury…but not many.
Eles and warriors and guardians have all them boons easily and I kind of miss that on the thief..We only get fury if we trait for it…sadface…but then again don’t let the Necros see this post: they get NO vigor which I found to be the worst thing(I love the vigor boon).
EDIT: cloudysan you should check out my build then and see if it works for you. utilities are sos shadref and shad step with dagger strom. armor is valkyrie jewels are zerker runes you can use wurm or scholer i think but i think wurm is better
Much appreciated!
(btw my thief is Sylvari, too =) )
Now I only need to get Valk armor (had something like that in mind anyway after seeing one certain video just a moment ago and he uses the same armor).
What if you wanted to go direct damage but not going full glass cannon?
I dunno but I usually like to have a safety net just in case.
One word: warrior with one-hand sword! I used to love it in sPvP with shield and longbow offhand. I rolled over thiefs with f1 on sword because they can’t get away…at least some won’t. but in general yes stuns are the best thing to drop a thief. Had one warrior stomp me(the skill, not the move to finish someone off) right after I stealthed on him with CnD…and had no stun breakers. Basicly had to restealth after I got back up but that is just one example…or fear with necro CAN be helpful when he stealthes right infront of you.
Sometimes the issue with stuns is that you have to HIT the thief with your stun and not all are AoE/on very high cooldown.
