When A-net adds more elite specializations yes. I am just hoping A-net add a conjure/glyph based elite spec. Those utilities need more love.

Thinking about glyphs: Maybe name it the Loremaster, give ele focus in mainhand(I totally wanna rock a book as a main weapon) and make the elite buff existing glyphs as well as add new or even allow for combinations as a special mechanic. Say glyph of storm combined with elemental→elemental has a constant, moving aoe.
Conjuration is obvious: the Conjuror. Weapon I’d suggest sword mainhand and access to more conjurations as well as allow existing ones to last longer/have more charges and as a mechanic allow for some kind of different skills when in fire,air,water,earth.

That’s what I could come up with on the fly. Not suggesting those should be it but I’d so love to see some love for existing utilities.

Worth dusting off my engineer for scrapper?

Welp. Dusted of my engineer, been trying her out for a while and kinda love the scrapper. Not fully unlocked( I still need the last 2 skills) but having a blast running around whacking enemies over the head with my hammer. Even the function gyro got some use in events where people went down and I helped them back up.
Do see the flaws in the utility gyros though. Will probably still rock nades as my main kit but the 5 and 3 combined on anything with a breakbar is great!

I’ve been trying all sorts of elite specs the past couple of days and I’ve finally returned to the engineer and was wondering with all the negativity going on here if scrapper is actually worth trying out in pve and pvp.
Anyone can tell me the general state the elite spec is currently at?

DH needs to have some of its damage toned down. Main offenders are longbow #2, #4 and #5. The weapon offers way too much damage compared to the amount of CC the same build has.

The traps are not fun to fight against. Visual cues are missing especially in the heat of the battle. In WvWvW things are even worse. One can mesmer can stealth several DH guardians which lay a lot of traps. Instant death to anybody who isn’t running a tanky build.

At least someone brings up specific conclusions to why DH is so rewarding with less effort, and more forgiving if you do eff up (tons of dmg dealt)

Considering the #2 is auto-target and not skillshot makes it a nukehouse. The #4 is okay, because it’s not autotarget but a skillshot you have to aim yourself. The projectile is not that fast, so it’s dodgeable. #5 on the other hand can cover a whole node alone, because the radius and range of that skill is so huge. Basically you’re forced out of it, while they DH will run into it – place traps and just wait.

I cant believe some people actually think DH doesn’t need a tweak here and there in their kit. Are they that delusional and afraid of losing DH as their new main? That seems to be the question, cause the amount of players crying over DH (like me apparently, psh) than players asking for a buff on berserker is close to zero.

And killshot isn’t strong, right? I can get it ready pretty fast on a warrior but people learn to dodge it. MAYBE increase the CD on LB2 but that’s about it.
I agree with berserker buff but disagree with DH nerf aside from some minor tweaks here and there. Heavy light for example needs to be specific so people can actually dodge it and it isn’t random anymore. MAYBE 2 needs more cd(like 6secs instead of 4) aside from that: flank them! I’ve met many people flanking me, have flanked many people playing DH and they were lb autoshot afk not switching to anything dying because of that. Else: Keep them at a distance and burst them down together. It’s a TEAM BASED pvp mode for a reason. 1on1 will always have some being better, duh. I can’t kill mesmers that well 1on1 for example because I’m not used to their skills and same with all people complaining about DH.

Learn to play against their weaknesses. Same with ANY other class/spec. I run away from necros so they can’t do anything, I stay away from revenant because their ranged play is horrible and I stay closed to ranged classes s they have issues fighting me more.

Oh and one more thing: DH running traps only waste potential. Close to no condition cleanse, no renewed focus, no utility. I love the QQ from enemy players saying I only use trap(which is false as I only have 2). People complain because it’s something new.

A trait specified to a single weapon skill is not a healthy change.

Instead, something like “when you blind an enemy while wielding a longbow, also apply a knockback. 10 sec ICD”

This way, not only the effect is still tied to the longbow, you also have a little bit more access to it with F1 or combo fields.

This feels like the best way to do it. But what about Purification blinding the enemy?

Ele is literally easiest class to play in PvP, and Mesmer players are thinking like they doing something, outplaying players etc. while all they do is leaving their decoys and watching people die in suffer. YOU should go out from your kitten*ng box dude.

Warrior’s ONLY GS/Hammer build is harder than whole ele profession.

Then I must be best player ever as warrior(ANYTHING WARRIOR) is stupidly easy and anyone saying it’s hard needs to l2p.
Ele used to be hard as kitten when I played ele..haven’t played ele for +1 year so I dunno but I asume you still need to switch atunements like mad.

I’m having issues with the auto attack on hammer tbh. The weapon is a nice controll weapon but that’s about it. In PvE I almost never see any guardian running hammer and it’s kinda sad.

its hard to dodge a trap if the drop the elite trap first which stuns you…… like you cant dodge it if they put it down its instant.

Get stability. Also thief is in a very bad spot against guardian in general from my persepective. Not every class is equaly good against every class. I eat thief as breakfast even without DH and I generally have issues as a thief against guardians(non dh as well).
With stability you can just waltz right out of the elite trap.
In general I don’t get why people run 5 traps. I run 2, the heal(which is my new favorite heal) and one utility which I change often. Renewed Focus is just way too good on any build.
Get in my face and pressure me and I die. It’s simple as that and it’s same with any DH. Occasionally played rev and all I had to do was flank them, they’re too slow against impossible odds(see what I did there? ) and get beaten anyways. Especially those that camp in LB. I often change to GS if someone tries this with me and you can see the bad DH not change at all trying to get away getting killed. People just don’t see that the spec is counterable. Unlike Chrono…

Is that so hard? If I trait for traps it dazes you BEFORE the trap snaps. In low play people get owned by this but in high play people are probably a lil more smarter and it’s a none issue.
stop ruining it for everyone. I could rant on about how mesmer/chrono is op but then the entire mesmer community would try to drown me in clones. I could rant on about how d/d ele is STILL too strong but again: people only see what is new and might need a counter play(dodge).

Anet will nerf DH and Necro because they are too much OP.
After that they will nerf Daredevil and balance warrior because actually wars aren’t viable at all.
And finally we will have a viable pvp for the next season.

You’re delusional. DH is a l2p against issue, reaper/necro op? I’d like to know what you’re smoking and get some as well. And nerf Daredevil? I haven’t gotten any issues with them. Warrior doesn’t need balancing, Berserker does.
I love how people forget that other playstyles without elites are still viable. D/D ele is still king whenever I see one, guardian bunker is still strong and so are the “old” meta builds, mesmer is still horrible to play against. I love how people think everything needs to be “balanced”. Why don’t we play throw rock simulator where everyone has the exact same rock and call it balanced till the day one guy finds a way to throw the rock better which needs to be nerfed and then we throw cotton balls instead of rocks.

Say what you want about DH, it is def one of the lower skillfloor specs in the game at present.

And why is that bad? Easy to play, hard to master I guess is more fitting.
Revenant is much easier to play IMO and I don’t see complains.

Okay this isn’t something HoT related but a general issue I’ve been having since day 1 and it hasn’t changed.
I keep having long load screens, I keep having fps issues in lions arch and can only play the game on low-semimedium.
My specs are:
geforce gtx 650
amd phenom II x6 1075T
4gb ram.
I NEVER get why the game is so slow and only playable on low. Is my PC way too weak or what else could be it? Maybe it’s because I got a hexa core?

The thing with DS and RS is: RS is melee. DS is ranged. DS DOES need some kind of buff but RS isn’t as all mighty if you know how to play against it.
Ele’s will still rule the world even without having a damaging elite spec, warriors and guardians will still be used more even if their elite specs are not conform to the current meta…the whole thing is that people still have the old meta in their brains. It’s gonna wither and die off and a new one will rise up maybe using some of the new elite specs…warrior and guardian are still stronger in team support in pve and eles are still stronger in pvp. Necro’s gonna have a nice new spot as some kind of a bruiser…this hasn’t changed.
Learn to counter RS and stop complaining is what I’m trying to say. The thing with this being considered an “upgrade” is because necro doesn’t have many playstyles in general. If there were some improvements to some of our other skills we’d not consider it an “upgrade” but a sidegrade.

Irenio said during TwitchCon that he mains a Ranger. Not sure if it’s by choice or because he was given/selected to balance Rangers (and Engineers). Either way, he’s the only developer Rangers have on the balance team.

He really did? At least ONE guy…and then other devs come over and pluck in his garden. If he’s the dedicated dev to one class he should be the one that at least decides with the other devs.

Don’t really use we heal as one for quickness upkeep (as I can’t for some reason in a real fight and not in some environment where we don’t even know the whole picture) and I still think this is stupid. Could it be because none of the devs play ranger? yeah that’s probably it.

As much as I would love to see a unique weapon. It simply wont happen unless all the other classes got one as well.

Sure add it to Elementalist and Necro as well.
Warrior+Guardian+Ranger+Thief should get crossbow imho. Engineer would be happy to get ANY new weapon be it hammer or mace or anything like that…maybe a crossbow fits too..dunno but there are enough possibilities for future weapons.
Maybe one day we’ll be getting something new..Just saying I’d love the idea not that it should happen right now.

Not counting the usualy stuff…yesterday CoF p.3 where you’ve got to get past the exploding ball thingies….first try on top of that I had issues with my engineer last time I did p.3 and probably did it 3-4 times(but way less then any of the warriors in our group back then).
I was the hero of our group.

I COULD see dagger as a possibility…I mean why not? Dagger doesn’t fit the duelist theme but it fits more then axe or mace and as mesmer are kind of sneaky themselves…well I would like the look of Incinerator =).
Maybe for ranged an entirely new weapon. Ever seen the game Kingdoms of Amalur? The chakrams from this game are just awesome and the only way I played the game(for everyone who has not seen them http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVOhs4uSy0A )…I mean why not? =)

Not sure I agree. Fun, maybe. But it’s also fun to have balanced weapons which are actually all useful to an equal degree, and ideally useful without having to specifically trait for them.

In other words, the dev time used to pseudo-balance the new weapon’s abilities I’d rather see invested into balancing the current weapons.

Not that I wouldn’t enjoy a Mainhand Pistol (although this makes me wonder, we already got a 900 range MH weapon) or a Chakra or something like that, but meh… we got plenty weapons already.

I dunno more variety would be great. Sure fix what’s not balanced yet but give more variety would also be helpful.
There’re just so much builds one can have with so much weapon combos. Cranking the number of possible combos up and it will be much more interesting to face someone.
Like in GW1 where you didn’t know the enemies skills and had to learn by looking what they use.
Maybe not add weapons NOW but later down the line with new traits and new utilities to give more build variety which has always been my main con for GW2..I like the whole build wars thing.

If you’re playing ele for lighting hammer only you’re doing it all wrong imho.
Ok back to topic:

For dungeons, IIRC it’s the strongest DPS in the entire game.

Still not the only way to play the Elementalist. I actually hated the hammer build as it felt like a temporary thing. I’d use the hammer up and the group of enemies is still not dead.
Maybe they changed the whole damage of it but I wasn’t impressed in solo PvE. Less so in dungeons as it actually makes me go toe on toe with the enemy and the Ele is squishy enough. One big swoop later and I’m dead.
If it wasn’t so up close and had less cooldown/more charges I could see it being great.

And I got to agree with Clockwork. If you like the whole class mechanic you’re much better off. I for example hate the warrior’s class mechanic and thus don’t play my warrior anymore. Or I didn’t even attempt to level a ranger past level 15 as my pet always dying and being a bother all the time didn’t help me like the class.
Elementalist or Mesmer on the other hand have much more complexity and if you’re the type of person you’ll like those.

To sum my opinion all up: I’d never level an Elemenatlist again. Once you’re 80 you’re done with leveling. The class is great but annoying to level due to being squishy no matter what you try and not dealing good damage due to always dying(not saying I can’t play the class..far from it but I always struggled with harder enemies). Some people might disagree and it might’ve changed (haven’t played Ele for half a year) but my experience wasn’t all too pleasent.

All the conditions would be too big of a pool, and I doubt 1s of bleeding and poison would be “too strong for a grandmaster” not to mention, we’re mesmers, this illusionists, and fear is a fairly big part of illusions so I fail to see how it “doesn’t fit us.”

@OP I think it’d make a good Grandmaster trait, because face it, there’s no way we’d be able to do -too- much damage from it because at best we could get 1s of 19 bleed (highest confusion burst I threw on someone)

A missunderstanding on your part or mine I dunno but the way I meant it was this: 1 stack of confusion=1 stack of whatever the enemy would get so basicly 3 clones=3stacks of confusion=3 stacks of 1sec bleed+3sec poison.
If it was that way imagine how high the potential damage could get. Maybe he meant every time you get confusion no matter how high the stacks(like scepter’s #3 → 1 proc of the trait)…but one could time it and abuse Illusionary Retribution with tons of clones.
Both ways it would actually be quiete strong but then again other classes can keep poison up on their own. With my engineer pistol #2 alone I can stack tons of poison…although I think the way I thought it to be would kind of be OP. Mr OP care to eleborete how you meant it? Or is it maybe all skills that cause confusion trigger this? I’m confused(no pun intended).

I actually like the idea of more then just those two random conditions but I got to agree why not include fear? Warrior’s got fear…and they’re not very fearsome =)
Maybe 1sec fear, 3sec poison, 3stacks 1sec bleeding, 1sec burning, 3sec blind, 5stacks 4-5sec vuln. 1-2sec chilled/crippled…something like that.
I’d actually trait it but I still would prefer if they changed the way confusion works in pve to make condition mesmer more useful with all the confusion potential.

The question would be how strong this one is.
If one confusion stack gives both it would be really strong maybe even too strong for a grandmaster trait. Maybe make it random like sometimes bleeding sometimes poison as I think poison is really really really strong in PvP/WvW solely because of the healing reduction.

Other then that I think they should change the whole behaviour how confusion works in PvE. That would help condition mesmers more imo.

The whole beam change won’t be happening and only because of one thing: the other classes. They will whine all day for not getting anything fancy out of their weapon (although their swinging animations are fancy they still will).
Not saying I wouldn’t want to see animations changed. I’m just guessing because we all know how people are especially if it is guardians or warrior. They want to be the center of attention and if they can’t because twily/sunrie look better on mesmer.
If they do this they most likely will change effects on other classes as well maybe guardian’s fire being yellow/dark and warrior’s…yeah warrior what? Maybe ranger’s pet although that would be silly.

Mesmer is more viable in pug dungeon runs, lightning hammer eles however are used by high-end organised groups, so if you’re more interested in high-end groups then run an ele.

Ok back to topic:
I don’t know how hard it is to level ele currently but when I started some months ago it was super hard…but also fun with d/d comboing all the way finishing off vets…that being said it was disheartening to see any warrior as their playstyle is:“herpa kitten imma go kill smth k? press 2…dead.”.
And I was like an artist performing tons of skills and switching attunements all the time. It felt better but I had to give at least 90% all the time. Nowadays we had a balance patch and I haven’t touched my ele ever since as I grew tired of humans at some point way before that.

I just recently reached level 70 with my Mesmer but tried one before(to level 30~) but it was human so…yeah :P .
Here I don’t always have to give at least 90% but I still feel like an artist as my killing looks glamerous. I kill vets, I kill groups, I kill champions/do group events solo…actually I wonder why I haven’t played a Mesmer before. The start is truely a little bit slow but once you’re got like level 30-40 you should have played enough to know the ropes and at for got 20 points in one trait line(I can’t imagine playing my mesmer without Deceptive Evasion).

For group/dungeon play I’d say they’re both equal. Mesmer’s got the support and good damage(although not aoe) and ele’s got good damage and also a little bit support(both actually depending on your build).
I’d say play the one you like the looks of the skills. You’ll be looking at them for a while so better familiarize yourself with their skills. If you’re into WvW both have potention so that’s not an issue.
Also no class is trash unless you count the warrior…I don’t like them as mentioned. Not trash as in no damage, useless but rather the most boring class in the entire game =)

Bomb healing is not worth it

I agree with that. Bomb healing is only good when you’re bunkering in sPvP and even then it is debatable.

My current build I’m experimenting with. 10 points extra in alchemy is optional and I only use the flamethrower for the fire field and the toolbelt skill(although 2 isn’t half bad either).
This is mind you for PvE. Dunno about PvP but could be possible. Nowhere near as perfect that build but hey: it uses bombs =)

I was forced to choose my guild or my engineer. Patch a few months ago screwed my engie’s build irreparably so i probably made the wrong choice.

What kind of elitists guild is this?
I’d always say play what you like and if people are being idiots well…can’t be helped.

I dunno but tbh I prefer engineer over any heavy armor class as we can give stuff other classes can’t that easily.
We’ve got a HUGE asset of combo fiels and finishers. What’s got the warrior? One..on bow(which noone runs…quiete a shame actually as it is the only weapon I find interesting on the warrior aside from hammer).
The guardian? Well mostly light and two fire(of which one would not be taken usually).
Not only do we have great combo fields but a huge array of finishers(not too many but still quiete a bit). Basicly every turret is a blast finisher. Rocket boots for example will never get of my toolbar as it has so much utility..blast finisher+getaway+easy burn=win.
I especially think our napalm skill on the flamethrower is one of our strongest fields we’ve got. Got a thief with SB in your party? Let him stack might with your field and if you’re like me who also runs around with the bomb kit you’ll have even more opportunities to create fields helpful for your team.

But overall I think they should help us engineers define a role. I’m just the little asura running around like a maniac throwing bombs. I do help with my fields and do deal quiete some damage but I could do better if we needed more then just damage in dungeons.

I’ve also been trying to use the stuff unsuccessfully. But the sword really helped me…but wait since when does the GS autoattack hit 3 people? O_o
I’ve never seen that happen…and I totally forgot about shatter as an aoe methode…as I’ve mentioned I’m kinda new to mesmer so thanks again for that one.

Hi!

I’m kind of new to mesmer(played one before but scraped her as I totally dislike the human race which I didn’t back then…around level 20ish).
I am currently level 11 and I noticed whenever I’m at a event that has waves of enemies or packs of enemies I usually only deal good damage to one of them. My only real, good aoe is the beserker on GS which is hard to control.
What do you mesmer pros do to deal good aoe damage in PvE? Coming from the engineer I feel kind of lost without a good aoe.

Maybe change your playstyle. Warriors are kind of predictable and IMHO the ONLY warrior that can damage me hard is a stun warrior as I can’t get away from all his stuns.
Other warriors? Kite, kite, kite→dead. One might not believe this but sitting duck is an awesome trait and utterly destroys melee(at least for me).

I am on Drakkar Lake(EU, german server).
I don’t see ANY engineers besides me in higher areas or dungeon groups(usually my daily CoF P.1 run or sometimes catacombs).
It is kind of sad. On top of being an engineer I also playing an Asura which I don’t see like…at all. WHEN I see an Engineer it is usually human in like 20+ runs from CoF(usually did 1 per day) I saw 1(!) engineer.
The most I see: warriors, guardians and I had a discussion on playing my engineer..I like my engineer but some people can be REALLY picky. I usually tell them that there’re other professions beside warrior and guardian(as it usually is one of those two who questions my power).
This might be the issue: people not taking engineers in their groups. I had one guy who demanded only heavy armor classes for his group…but those elitists I don’t care about. Not all people were like that but 1 or 2 were wondering(and are stupid as the engineer deals good damage in groups..bombs, nades and all that ).

I don’t know if this is possible as of yet or if this was suggested but I’ll still write it.

I’d love to choose which currency I display when I open my inventory. I liked that I could see how much karma I had for example but I could also display how many tokens I have currently with this new system.
Maybe as check boxes to the wallet to let us pick what we want to display on the inventory screen.

I dunno about you all but I don’t like to always hover over the bottom part of the inventory to check.

Oh and don’t tell me to use the search function which has not worked for ages neither on firefox nor on opera or chrome…dunno why but I appologize if this has been asked. I’ve not found anything as of yet and I’ve searched by hand.

I think we’re the only class next to Warrior that has one interrupt and then must lay there and take the stomp. If our #3 skill was a little shorter, so that we had a second interrupt, I’d be happier with what we have.

Most classes, after all, have a second interrupt up their sleeve if they pull off the first one, even in time of using their #2 skill immediately.

I’d say that is the issue. Why not put 3 to 2 to have that AoE interrupt other professions have expect for warrior(who can stand up with with his 3 that we can not).
And maybe then give us a new 3..or give us something like SD/Static Shot that interrupts 3 enemies trying to stomp and call it “overcharge toolbelt” or something like that.
At least SOMETHING to help us survive 2 stompers so we can either get help of kill something. The way the pull is, it can’t really help us survive. Other then that I’m very happy with 3 if only we could use it earlier or as our new 2.

i know anet wants all classes to have every weapon, but why is everyone so sure next weapon engi gets is hammer? was it confirmed somewhere?

What’s more is that the team is also working very kitten finding a way to make it so that every profession has access to every weapon and their own weapon skills for those previously locked weapons. Engineer plus Hammer? Check. Again, there’s no specific timeline for this, but a new progression system is coming
