If Southsun gets another reworking, I hope they add a few in there. (And let’s be honest, Southsun NEEDS another reworking.)

Very much so.

What do you want to see in GW2 before 2014?

Playable Tengu
I’d like to see the tengu made a playable race, but only if they’re treated like a sixth original race (full voice acting, starting city, idle banter between tengu NPCs, a starting zone, etc).

Player Housing
I’d love to see a robust player housing system added to the game. I’d also like to see a furniture-making craft that utilizes leather, cloth, and lumber (raising demand on these materials) added to compliment the housing system.

Fishing
I’d like to see fishing added to the game. A nice, relaxing activity we can do in the open world when we want to wind down would be a perfect addition. I’d also like to see new cooking recipes (Power/Condition Duration and Precision/Condition Duration being my top two choices) stem from fish and seafood cooking recipes.

A New Expansion
I’d love to see a full-fledged expansion added to the game. I’d like this expansion to open a new region to exploration all at once, rather than a bit at a time. I’d like this new expansion to receive all the quality, care and attention to detail that went into the full game, rather than the somewhat lighter content we’ve been receiving through the Living Story updates.

Customizable Skills
I’d love to have the ability to customize my weapon skills. I hate that my guardian’s focus has better defensive skills than does his shield. I loathe that my ranger’s Hunter’s Shot was changed to a stealth skill rather than a new stealth skill being made available for those who want it.

Two-Handed Axes
My warrior is getting angry because he has to use a greatsword as a stand-in for a two-handed axe…and you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.

Do you prefer if there was no LW contents?

I think so. As much as I respect what the developers are trying to accomplish with the Living Story, too much of it feels like filler. I’d rather have a second helping of steak (Factions, Nightfall) than fill up on bunch of bread (Southsun, Sky Pirates, etc). If the quality of the Living Story matched the quality of the original game, if it didn’t feel so rushed, then I’d probably change my vote. But as is, I’d prefer something “meatier”.

Tbh I don’t see them ever increasing the number of trait points unless they completely rework them and add new ones. Many builds will become OP and balancing this would be a complete nightmare. I can see them doing it alongside nerfing quite a few of the grandmaster traits, which is something I do not want to see

There is most likely a rather major difference in power between the fall of abaddon fight and the end of nightfall fight.

True, but I don’t think we’re going to fight Abaddon. I think we’re going to fight one of his lieutenants while the other five gods fight Abaddon waaaaaay off in the background.

This isnt about what happened in GW1, you need to get your facts straight.
This is about fall of Abaddon, this is about events pre-dating any content you played in the first game.

How is fighting alongside 5 gods to kill a 6th not going to epic?
Pull your heads out of the ground and vote for Evon.

The same reason none of the big fights in this game – up to and including Zhaitan himself – have been epic. So if the fight itself isn’t going to be anything special, then I’m voting on lore. And even if we were just voting for fractals (we aren’t), I already know the lore surrounding Abaddon’s fall and I know next to nothing about the events leading to and immediately after the reactor meltdown. So why should I vote for Evon?

The only thing that should matter is the Fractal choice here, rest is all bull crap.

If you think about that clearly and dont let yourself get swayed by the rest, Evon is the only choice.
Abaddon fractal is going to insanely epic, the reactor is going to be boring.
Dont make the mistake of regretting your choice later on, c’mon vote for Evon!!!!!

“Insanely epic”? I’ve already fought Abaddon once, and it was anything but epic. And unfortunately for you, I don’t view the “rest” as “bull crap”; so Kiel is getting my vote. Sorry.

You should be blaming Queen Jennah for mind controlling logan so he had to come to her aid.

Nope. Logan is either too weak to resist her mind control (lore) or too stupid to include a condition removal skill on his skill bar (game play). He’s either weak-willed or a bad player; either way he’s to blame.

Ranger Changes on July 23, 2013

I mean no offense, but I find stealth on 3-while technically “unrealistic”-pretty much an excellent addition on PvE. Stealth is never bad for you on any scenario.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. If you need stealth in PvE as a longbow ranger then you’re doing something wrong. You have:
1. A weapon that can attack from a distance of 1200 to 1500 from your target.
2. A pet that can grab and hold aggro, keeping your target away from you.
3. A knock back.
4. An area of effect cripple.
5. Mobs that rarely dodge.
6. Mobs that usually have a slow rate of attack.

So, with those points being undeniably true, in what scenario is a 3 second stealth better than 10 instant stacks of 10 seconds of vulnerability? Again, this change was done solely for PvP/WvW players and done at the expense of PvE players. I don’t know why anyone would bother arguing otherwise.

You like the game? res people!

An unfortunate byproduct of appealing to “carrot-oriented players” (which the Living Story and Achievement Points are no doubt designed to do) is that many such players prioritize “mine” over community. Fortunately, there are more than a few people in this game willing to go out of their way to help others.

There was only one Dark Lord. There are bunches of Elder Dragons. And Frodo wouldn’t have a Ring of Power because in the Guild Wars universe Bilbo would have had to answer 100,000 riddles, collect 100,000 fish scales from Gollum’s garbage bin, complete the Balrog’s Bounce jumping puzzle in Moria, complete Sharky’s Shuffle in Isengard, learn the Misty Mountain Hop while blind-folded, dig 500,000 taters and 250,000 carrots and slaughter 100,000 rabbits for the Gift of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit, mine and refine 9,000,000 chunks of mithril silver, and then defeat the Risen Smaug to get the kitten thing and then it would be soulbound on use.

Well played, but you forgot to mention that Bilbo would only be allowed to mine one chunk of mithril silver per day.

Why Novels and Short Stories?

Novels I can understand. The short stories I suspect are a product of the bimonthly Living Story updates. Updating the Living Story so often leaves less time to hire voice actors, and it would probably be a waste of money pay someone to deliver lore through voice when it’s going to be all but forgotten in a month anyway.

So you’d prefer some huge walls of text on npcs instead? No thanks.

No, I’d prefer voiced dialogue.

Right now, we’re doing other stuff.

Right now, we’re losing the war – because we’re no longer fighting the war. Our one victory has ruined us. Instead of pressing our advantage, striking while the proverbial iron was hot, we’re bashing pinatas and chasing kites and playing at politics.

Meanwhile, the Elder Dragons are enjoying a wonderful stress-free holiday during which they can ponder where the big Z went wrong and make any necessary adjustments to their plans, all at their leisure. We’ve got them right where they want us.

It’s going to take a whopping big deus ex machina to save Tyria now.

Does it really feel like you’re losing the war? That’s one of the problems with the Living Story; we’re so busy doing all this episodic content – supporting politicians, destroying exploitative contracts, fighting pirates – that we’ve all but forgot the “threat” the Elder Dragons are supposed to represent.

From a lore standpoint, would you really care who wins an election in Lion’s Arch while there are four, possible five other Elder Dragons waiting to destroy the world? Are these dragons going to put their plans for world destruction on hold while we finish up the election?

It’s really a tough predicament for the developers. The Living Story is detracting from the overall plot, but the overall plot requires more careful handling than they can put into the average Living Story update.

The dmg output hardly changed(still 10 stacks of vul), but now you can combine the Hunter shot with Remorless Grandmaster trait(and Quick Draw) for additional 5vul every 10 seconds. Seems pretty kitten nice.

1. 10 stacks at once (old version of HS) and 10 stacks applied one at a time (new version of RF) are NOT the same thing. Before, we could pop HS then RF, letting all 10 shots from RF get the full 10% damage boost. Now your first shot from RF gets no damage boost, your second gets a 1% damage boost, your third gets a 2% damage boost, etc. The damage output has changed.

2. So you’re going to take Remorseless over Piercing Arrows? Eagle Eye? Spotter? Steady Focus? Which of these traits are you going to dump for 5 stacks of vulnerability every 10 seconds?

Learn how to use it… it gives u great advantages if used right! Why can’t rangers be stealthy… like “hiding in nature…” sort of:) I Think the change is good. We still have vulnerability, but just not on that skill.

Two things…
1. “Learn how to use it.” How is a PvE longbow ranger supposed to benefit from stealth when attacking from long range?
2. Why does stealth have to come at the expense of one of the longbow’s few offensive skills? Why couldn’t they have added a stealth utility skill whenever they get around to adding new skills (by the end of the year, according to the recent blog)?

This change was made by robbing Peter to pay Paul, and the WvW/PvP players are obviously Paul; so of course they “think the change is good”. As a PvE player, I HATE the change.

While I’m sure a lot of PvP/WvW players are tickled pink at the prospect of using stealth as a ranger, it’s not such a great addition to the PvE player’s repertoire…especially since it comes at the expense of a fantastic weapon skill.

Just in case the devs are ignoring the other threads relating to the longbow changes, I want to toss my hat in the “I hate these changes” pile. Why? Allow me to explain.

As a PvE player, stealth on a longbow does me absolutely no good. My pet tanks for me while I attack from long range. And I have an area of effect cripple. And I have a knock back. Stealth simply brings nothing to the table for a PvE longbow user. So Hunter’s Shot is now a dead spot on my already limited skill bar.

Expanding on that, Rapid Fire now applies 10 stacks of vulnerability. But it does so gradually, one at a time. So it will never benefit from the full 10 stacks, whereas it could with the old Hunter’s Shot. And because Rapid Fire is now a condition applier, it’s role has changed. It used to be something held in reserve for when targets made it inside the Long Range Shot’s damage drop-off (1000).

Where I used to open a fight with 20 stacks of vulnerability with Hunter’s Shot and Opening Strike from me and my pet and held Rapid Fire for close-ranged enemies I now open with 10 vulnerability and have a completely useless weapon skill.

If the idea was to get people to use the longbow with Remorseless, I don’t think that’s going to work. Between Eagle Eye, Piercing Arrows, Spotter, Steady Focus, and the signet traits, there’s just too many good traits competing for too few slots to justify resetting Opening Strike once every 12 seconds.

tl;dr – I hate the change. I implore to change the longbow back and add a stealth skill whenever you roll out your new skills and traits system latter this you if you feel you must give the longbow a stealth skill.

This reply is to a post from another related thread that seems to have vanished.

I mean no disrespect, but the new skill also makes sense over PvE, which is 99% of what I do. I do not, however, favor 100% full power builds, and detest the flawed idea that GW2 is a DPS race ONLY. People should be able to choose whatever their playstyle should be, not force into direct damage (GW2 is not a speedrun.)

That’s the thing, you can choose your play style. That’s why different weapons have different functions. The longbow was supposed to be used for ranged dps. That’s the style the weapon was clearly designed for. But with the new Hunter’s Shot we’ve now got two of our five skills dedicated to defense. These skills are static, mind you; we cannot swap them out.

(Full DPS by itself is not good or bad-just a high risk/high reward playstyle.) New Hunter’s Shot gives Ranger an additional playstyle option for those who would take advantage of it, though I imagine you are not one of those people.

I also spend 99% of my time in PvE, and I can’t imagine a scenario in which I’ve ever needed stealth on my ranger. I’ve already got a pet, 1500 range, an aoe cripple, and a piercing knock back all from my weapon skills and a couple of traits.

And that doesn’t even account for the utility skills I can take for added defense, should I ever feel the aforementioned skills to be sufficient to keep me alive. So when would stealth ever benefit me as a PvE longbow ranger?

I didn’t like Maul’s change, and given your apparent mentality, I think you actually would profit from the change if you used Greatsword-it’s hard to please everyone’s possible playstyle and preferences out there.

It’s not about pleasing my play style, it’s about changing my play style. I think we can all agree the longbow was designed to be a ranged dps weapon. This change to longbow doesn’t enhance the weapon’s designed roll, it nerfs it. And it does so for the sake of utility that half the players (PvEers) will never need.

To put it in perspective, I took the warrior greatsword nerf without a word of complaint. I, in fact, defended the nerf as a good move (even if I was raked on the warrior sub-forum for it). I’ve done likewise with a lot of changes, both buffs and nerfs. I’ve never criticized the developers for the changes they’ve implemented – even those that haven’t panned out so well – because I’ve always seen the underlying rationale. Until now…

I think remorseless will be great once they fix the auto-crit. Especially for people who are power based, but aren’t using heavy crit chance/damage. It will give you a nice way to use hunters shot and get an offensive boost out of it.

Spotter gives an increased chance to score critical hits on all shots, Remorseless gives a guaranteed critical hit once every 12 seconds. Without doing the math, it seems to me Spotter is the better way to go.

The objective of the instance isn’t to secure the ship, secure the technology, or study the weaponry – it’s to get the gold. And that gold belongs to innocent people, not enemies of the state. Gold isn’t a plane. Gold isn’t a weapon.

Why stealth on longbow?

in Ranger

Posted by: darkace.8925

darkace.8925

Here are the reasons, I believe stealth went on the longbow:

A ) The longbow needed some love much more than the short bow.

But is this the love it needed? Is the best they could come up with?

B ) Logistically, it makes sense that it would be easy to hide from your target when you’re far away from them.

I think you meant “logically”. Either way, logic and video games don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand. Thieves, for example, can hide from their target even when standing right next to them.

C ) This serves as a fix to the Opening Strike mechanic by working in tandem with Remorseless.

Which trait are you dropping in favor of Remorseless? On my list, even with the changes, Remorseless still doesn’t make the cut.

I’m sure stealth is great for all you PvP and WvW players who run away at the first sign of resistance, but it came at the expense of a fantastic PvE skill which is now effectively dead space on the skill bar.

stealth isnt only useful for running away…
being focused? stealth; pop; lost target
want to get close to someone without them seeing you? stealth; pop; maul
want to stomp someone? stealth; impale

I know, that was a bit of hyperbole. Stealth certainly has its uses, but for the PvE ranger these uses are far outweighed by the value of an instant 20 stacks of vulnerability. That’s 20% more damage vs…what? What use is any half-decent PvE ranger going to get out of stealth?

With the announcement that new skills on their way, why didn’t they simply wait and add stealth to a new longbow skill and leave Hunter’s Shot as is? Why didn’t they add stealth to a new utility skill and leave Hunter’s Shot as is? Why mess up a skill that was useful to everyone for the sake of half the population (if even half the player play PvP/WvW)?

With the new HS we’ve spread the function of one skill to two skills and a trait. We’re doing twice the work and giving up a very valuable trait to get the same results.
