Traditional. The Living Story has failed to connect with me. I appreciate the effort, but I just don’t find the content added to be compelling enough to justify the abandonment of traditional content updates (particularly expansions, which this game’s predecessor did very well).
I think that certain stuff should be perm and some stuff should be temporary. The point of temporary content is to get players to get back into the game.
Temporary content doesn’t do any better a job at that than permanent content does. It’s simply new stuff that brings people into the game. driven.
I suspect you’re wrong on that count. The temporary nature of the Living Story means the Achievement Points tied to them are also temporarily available. And the amount of APs each Living Story installment offers is very generous indeed. And now that we’ve got rewards – actual, tangible, in-game rewards – being given for APs, the carrot-chasing players are going to feel inclined to log in and get those APs at least once every two weeks.
While all ties into the temporarily available “act now!” items in the Gem Shop. Let’s make no mistake, the Living Story is just a delivery mechanism for gem shop items (many of which are locked behind rng). That’s what’s really driving the high rate of Living Story updates, in my opinion.
It is unfortunate that the developers have so totally failed to develop PvE in any deep manner. They were so proud of their abandonment of the classic Holy Trinity and introduction of a new one, but they completely failed to actually make two of the three points of their new Trinity matter. Take control, for example: most trash mobs die too quick to bother and most mobs are all but immune to it. In other words, the only mobs that warrant being cc’d are immune to being cc’d.
If you’re suggesting ArenaNet fixed the election then you’re accusing them of fraud. The outcome of the election was presented as being entirely in our hands. And because they sold “support boosters” for real money, anything less would be fraud. Even if there weren’t criminal or civil liabilities for such actions (I don’t think there would be), if it ever got out that the election was rigged from the start their reputation and credibility would be severely damaged. I don’t think ArenaNet is going to do anything that stupid for a fictitious election.
A player house (home instance or otherwise) with a furniture-making craft is all I’m asking for.
It’s a gold sink. An effective one at that.
Yes, I know. I stated as much in my post.
If you don’t think 2 slots is worth 8g, then don’t get it. You can always purchase 20 slot bags with Fractal Relics.
That you very much for the advice.
I understand 20-slot bags are a luxury, and luxuries aren’t supposed to be cheap. But I think I speak for everyone when I say this thing is overpriced. To go from an 18-slot to a 20-slot costs an additional 8 gold. That’s 8 gold for two inventory slots.
Surely this thing could be priced at 4 or 5 gold and still function well enough as a gold sink? I’d argue the lower price would lead to more purchases and thus it would actually remove more gold from the economy if it were cheaper.
I’ve felt an icy chute/slide could make for an interesting jumping puzzle.
Because if they did, someone down the line would drag out the quote where they originally said they wouldn’t and call them a liar.
I’m hoping the Sky Pirates don’t wind up being the generic Saturday morning cartoon villains who ride in in their air ships to spoil festivals and kidnap princesses every other week. I’m okay with them as antagonists so long as they’re fleshed out (in time), they have convincing motives (something other than “let’s go troll the good guys”), and the leaders/bosses don’t “he who koops and runs away lives to koop another day” their way out of trouble every time we look to be getting closure.
LOL . Its just the 2nd day of the event. So… you yet have more 26 days ahead to it >_> .
I don’t think the point is that it’s too hard or overwhelming in volume, but that it’s just repetitive and boring. It’s just more busy work, menial tasks designed to light content updates feel more substantive.
I only need two:
1. She enjoys gladiatorial bloodsports.
2. She saved an Elder Dragon.
We don’t need more leather and silk.
We need scales and blood & junk… or atleast insignias/inscriptions like in Gw1
Though he didn’t specify in the blog, I’m hoping for fine crafting materials and lodestones.
It’s an entirely subjective opinion that’s aggravated by my fondness of GW1 so I am not saying that GW2 is in any way bad ‘per se’.
The bummer of it is I loved what GW2 was at release and hate what it’s becoming.
Did you jump?
/15characters
Why would they bother sending land forces to attack the guarded emissaries when they could simply wait a few minutes and blow the defenseless balloons out of the sky?
In a recent blog they said they were going to add a better chance at good crafting materials when salvaging blues and greens. Did this start today? Thanks.
you can sell the support tokens to the npc for 1.1s each. this is totally unfair to everyone who took part in the event and rewarding those who didnt. anet should sent everyone 1.1s for every token they used to keep it balanced.
Last night I trashed a stack of tokens, figuring they served no further purpose. /sigh
I’m not sure why any of you would want to try to dissuade Anet from creating content that thousands of people enjoy that exists as a foundation for future story and offers diversionary content from the core game.
It’s not a foundation, though; it’s drapes. And it’s drapes that are changed for a new color every two weeks. But the guys buying and hanging the drapes are spending the budget (time, money, man-power) of the guys who are supposedly going to reinforce the actual foundation.
Why stop at 5 characters? I’m going for all 8 professions:) Though quite early in the process I’m finding that each profession can be molded to a play style that is enjoyable to me, though it takes lots of time and research. Stopping at level 15 is way too early to form an opinion about a prof. I had no clue what a profession was going to end up really feeling like at that point.
Guess I’m more of am altoholic than you :P
I can’t answer for TC, but I stopped at five because I don’t want to repeat the same experiences I’ve already had. The moment a new race is added to the game is the moment I’ll start a sixth character.
And it would nerf the elementalist extremly hard. Heal is his only defense.
Huh? I don’t know how you play your elementalist, but mine has all kinds of crowd control. Is crowd control not a form of defense?
It is, but it’s not nearly effective enough to stop you from taking lots of damage.
Just as healing isn’t nearly effective enough to restore lots of taken damage. Staying alive usually isn’t a matter of relying on one thing. Thus I pointed out the hyperbole of the emboldened statement.
Sanctum Sprint? PvP.
Aspect Areane? PvP.
Southsun Survival? PvP.
To those saying we have the utilities for mobility, yes but taking those over mediations completely gimps you in combat.
The problem seems to be you wanting it all. You don’t want to be balanced, you want to excel at everything. That’s not how these games are supposed to work. Balance requires sacrifice: you can be decent at everything, but great at nothing OR you can be great at offense, but not at defense OR you can be great at defense, but not at offense OR you can sacrifice some of your offensive or defensive effectiveness for a bit of mobility OR… It’s all about tradeoffs; if you want more mobility, then give up some of your combat effectiveness.
Other classes don’t need to make the same sacrifices.
Yes, actually, they do.
And it would nerf the elementalist extremly hard. Heal is his only defense.
Huh? I don’t know how you play your elementalist, but mine has all kinds of crowd control. Is crowd control not a form of defense?
Unfortunately for me, the Living Story kind of killed the game for my brother. Due to the nature of his job and his familial obligations, his playtime was extremely limited; a few hours one day a week is all he could manage. This left him the dilemma of doing scrambling to keep up with the Living Story or working on the stuff he better enjoys (leveling his characters, personal story, etc). Being torn in two directions left him burned out, and he eventually stopped caring altogether.
While they work on this “filler content” they’re also working on big projects that, with the help of the feedback they receive from the “filler content”, will allow them to release large-scale quality patches.
Look long-term instead of the now. You want quality patches now instead of the filler content.
Allow me to explain this for a third time. I don’t want content patches now. I don’t want content patches every two weeks. I want content patches after such time has passed that the developers can release content that deep, meaningful, and engaging. I’m willing to wait whoever long that takes if it means not more “click F 150 times” type content.
If it’s release now, it’s going to be crap.
If it’s released later, you’ll still be complaining about having nothing to do (except “filler content”) now.
I’ve never – not once – complained about not having anything to do. I respectfully ask that you stop putting words in my mouth.
Too late…
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Queen_Jennah%27s_Jubilee
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Queen%27s_Gauntlet_%28achievements%29
That’s a TON of achievement points for temporary content. Of course, that’s the point, isn’t it? To get you to log in so you don’t fall behind in your Achievement Chests.
They’ve said they’re going to add new skills and traits to the game, but they haven’t said anything about skill trees. We have trait lines in this game, so I wouldn’t put any stock into rumors of skill trees.
What do you think of the trinity?
I have no problem with them wanting to replace the tank/healer/dps trinity with a damage/control/support one, but I don’t think they’ve gone about it the right way. Right now there is a huge imbalance in the need between damage and control/support.
If control is all but useless (don’t need it against trash mobs, doesn’t work against bosses) and support brings less to a party than more damage, there just isn’t a reason to run anything but damage with enough self-sustainability to keep yourself upright. That means the new trinity is little more than The One (damage) with a bit of window dressing.
I’m saving mine. If ascended trinkets will be craftable (a bit if, admittedly) then I’d rather save mine for something else.
Instead of filler content, do you want rushed content like Lost Shores again?
You ask that as if content can only be rushed or filler. Regardless, I believe I answered your question fairly clearly when I said, “I personally would much rather have quality over quantity…fewer, more compelling updates over more, less-substantive ones.”
So the achievements for the QJ Living Story are up on GW2 wiki, and I have to say I’m very disappointed in what I see. It looks like more of the same: busy work…filler. Among the achievements are: 4 tiers of visiting balloon towers and 4 tiers of escorting emissaries to hot-air balloons x5 (one set for each of the five playable races).
I made Guild Wars 2 my game of choice because of the time and effort the developers invested to ensure content was deeply satisfying. But with the shift to the Living Story it’s becoming more and more apparent that large quantities of shallower content is going to be the focus going forward. And with no planned expansions, all I have to look forward to is more of the same?
I’m hoping you’re not too far down the “new content every two weeks” path to reconsider your approach. To this point in time the development cycles don’t appear to have given the content development teams enough time to release Living Story content that matches the depth and quality of the that in the game at release. I don’t pretend to speak for everyone, but I personally would much rather have quality over quantity…fewer, more compelling updates over more, less-substantive ones.
Personally, I prefer it this way b/c the only thing I want is the T6’s.
(Now if only we had some way to Reroll all the stupid Hardened Leather we get).
That’s the reason I went 10 at a time; I need a ton of T6 mats. Unfortunately that bunch of leather returned on one of my attempts isn’t much of a help.
As is, this thing’s icon looks almost identical to that of the Exquisite Emerald Jewel. Any chance we could get an icon change (even if it’s just a simple recoloring)?
Underwater exploration is great. Underwater combat? Not so much. Between the severely limited skill selection and the bad hit detection, combat just isn’t as enjoyable underwater as it is on land.
Hearts are terrible “kill x rats” kind of quests.
Exactly.
Isn’t it funny, though, that some players actually want the “kill x rats” quests?
I wonder if the majority of players prefers that kind of quest, or dynamic events.
You’re not seeing the whole picture. Renown heart NPCs give you a reason to stop by certain locations. Those locations might have DEs that kick off five or ten minutes. But if you’ve got no reason to visit that spot, or if you simply run right through it with no reason to stick around, you might miss a great chain of DEs.
And remember that heart NPCs offer items for karma. These might be anything from fun consumables to crafting recipes for unique armor skins. They give you a chance to unload your loot without having to return to town.
And then there’s the lore aspect. These NPCs give a bit of depth to the world of Tyria. Edna’s Orchard without Edna is just a building we can’t enter and a copse of apple trees with a few low-level DEs. I understand there are more than a few players who don’t even bother talking to the heart NPCs; but there are those of use who do. And these NPCs breathe a bit of life into the world.
Well, if you don’t want to differentiate, then definitely zerker. PVT is useless in open world and deserves a kick in dungeons/fractals.
Great attitude! But you can do better. How about adding…
– If you’re not wearing full ascended (where possible) you’re wasting my time.
– If you’re playing using a very specific build and using a certain weapon you’re wasting my time.
– If you’re not playing one of three particular professions you’re wasting my time.
– If you’re wanting to watch the cut scenes you’re wasting my time.
So now you deserve to be kicked from a dungeon/fractal if you’re not a great sword-wielding Warrior, Guardian, or Mesmer in full Berserker’s exotic gear with ascended trinkets and a cookiecuttter build who is willing to skip all cut scenes.
Great attitude, indeed.
I’m not going to say they’re the bane, but they are bad for games. Dailies are a lazy way to time-gate content, enticing players to log in more often. Games used to rely on compelling game play to achieve this end. Dailies also represent the unfortunate shift – on both the developers’ and the players’ behalf – of rewards over game play.
no more renown hearts = sad me
You guys ready for the most petty complaint you’re ever going to hear?
I don’t like that the character portrait background for Lion’s Arch is the same as it is for Divinity’s Reach/the rest of Kryta. Rata Sum and The Grove are both a part of Maguuma Jungle, but they’ve each got a unique portrait background. But LA and DR use the same one. I’d like to see LA given a unique portrait background.
So last night I dumped a bunch of stuff into the MF for some clovers. I used the 10-recipe, and five of my first six attempts returned 10 clovers. “What’s all the fuss about? This isn’t bad at all,” I told myself. I wound up going one for my next next six attempts. Law of averages kicked me in the behind the moment I opened my mouth. Worse still, three of my failed attempts gave me T6 common mats (two ori, one leather) and another game me mystic coins (which are dirt cheap on the TP).
Long story short: I’ve now got to grind about 35 skill points for my Bloodstone since I got caught up in the “I only need 10 more 20 more clovers” trap.
That’s understandable, except I don’t think this should all be at the expense of people who are responsible with their playtime.
I has to be a balance. Thats what the daily system does. Try to balance necessary evils with fun.
Except those evils aren’t necessary. And there’s no fun included.
Why is something like time-gated charged quartz crystals (account-bound) used to make Celestial gear (account-bound, no statistical advantage gained) necessary? There’s no fun charging the crystals and there’s no balance disruption in doing away with the once-per-day limitation. So why have it?
I’ve always felt the game would be better if the trait lines were adjusted and made uniform across all professions. I’d have paired the attributes in each trait line as follows:
– Power/Profession-Specific Attribute
– Precision/Critical Damage
– Condition Duration/Condition Damage
– Toughness/Vitality
– Healing/Boon Duration
Yes, but if I’ve understood correctly each champion will have a unique drop that only comes from them. They’ll all have one, but they won’t all have the same.
Like the green weapons in GW1: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Unique_item
I was under the impression that champion types, not individual champions, had the unique drops (i.e. all bandit champions have the same drop).
Mesmer, elementalist, and thief are obviously in. For your last two, warriors (hammer), engineers (rifle, net turret), necromancers (cripples, chills, fear), or rangers (traps) might give you what you’re looking for. That doesn’t really narrow it down, though, so I’ll recommend warrior (giving you one of each type: soldier, adventurer, and scholar), and whatever fifth one strikes your fancy.
I have a rifle/cc engineer at 80, so I’ll say this. If you don’t enjoy the playstyle by level 15 or so, delete it and pick something else. It’s very good at what it does, but it’s also a fairly monotonous way to play.
If you get everything at once you get bored and lose the purpose of playing. I can appreciate time gating to a certain extent, but feel the daily model is off. Not everyone can play every day, nor has the desire to. Why not make it a weekly system so you can choose to do one a day, or all seven on Saturday. This at least opens the system up.
Even if you can play every day, who wants to log in with a list of menial tasks they’ve got to perform before they can get to the stuff the actually enjoy doing?
With all these festivals going on you almost forget there are a bunch of ultra-powerful dragons trying to destroy the world.
Yeah. Almost. Guess the States should stop having Independence Day and Christmas since they’ve been involved in wars in Afghanistan and Iraq for a decade. Nations have never relieved stress with festivals and jubilees in times of war.
nopes.
You missed the point. Entirely. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq aren’t fictional events developed by a writing team with finite resources. The war struggle against the Elder Dragons is. And because those finite resources are being used to develop festivals and elections and drinking mini-games, the whole “dragons want to destroy the world” plot around which this game was built has fallen by the wayside.
I’m going to make a fat short koden, with black battle markings around his eyes and ears…
lol
Queen Jennah will be assassinated during her Jubilee?
Enough of these goody goody two shoes characters! Please, please start killing them off!
And what would you replace them with? All of the characters in this game, goody two shoes or no, are cardboard cutouts. There’s no more depth to Evon Gnashblade than there is Ellen Kiel, for example.
