We asked this question many times since John P. announced that and he never ever answered.
Love the increased dmg on Powerful Blades. Havent tried out the new SoS, but it seems to hamper a already slow moving Guardian
I tried that. Guardian is now twice as slow as before.
I see only nerfed SoS which no one wanted but they ignored every post on it and just force it in to game.
Considering how EASY it is to get ascended weapons , i think allot of people will get the armor as well.
Nobody claims it’s hard (as in – requiring skill). It’s just too time consuming.
1 dungeon daily for less than 30 minutes for 300 days = 300 Gold. So what’s the issue here?
And for 300g you have finelly leveled all crafting in 300 days and can finally start making weapons and armor……Yeaaa great!
Not all crafting – for 300 g you will be abloe to do only 2 crafts.

I had around 10 gold through “normal game play”. Then I started doing Sorrow’s Embrace Path 1 and Path 3, every day and now I have 80 gold. Please share with me your definition of “normal game play”.
That is the problem. Someone is doing dungeons 2-3 hours per day and claim it ,,Normal gameplay" But there is no true definition of normal game play.

The (slight) problem is, if ascended gear could be gained other ways right now, it would most likely be a lot cheaper/faster than crafting. I’m sure some people would love 500-1000 dungeon tokens per ascended weapon, but that is no where near balanced compared to crafting.
Agree it would be hard to balance it. But still nowhere near to impossible.

A grind is all relative. I’ve seen people claiming that to do something more than once to be a grind. This game has very little grind compared to others. Where was it stated this game would be grind free?

This game was promised to be grind free so no i bought right game. But becouse of people who bought gring free game to expected gear gring here i now have wrong game.

Only thing i liked on Dredge was loot. It took ages but at least it was worth. But now after update? How can a zerker survive first part??? :-D
Someone here said it is still better then shaman….I would rather fight shaman 10 times per day then one dredge in year :-D

2. My point is, a very small percentage of the population plays the higher level fractals where ascended armor is “needed”. Why would anet base the entire acquisition of ascended armor on such a small amount of people? The decision to do it the way they did was based on the large amount of casual players they have. You know, the people the game is geared and marketed toward. Stop having such a narrow view of the situation based on your anger about the situation.
3. I realize how “easy” it is to change HP, mobs and change a couple of instabilities. However, have you even played this game the last year or so? It takes anet ages to do anything or add any new content unless it’s LS or gem store stuff. The point is, they just updated fractals, if you think anet is releasing a new tier anytime soon, it would be a dramatic change from their previous behavior in regards to content updates.
Nice job trying to brush me off with even more rage filled nonsense. You are also correct, I never played 40+, but that doesn’t mean I don’t understand you need more agony resist at higher levels. Fractals have always been about acquiring more AR to progress, so what makes this any different?
I never even argued that you wouldn’t need ascended armor to get more AR to get further. Still not sure why you are complaining about grind. It’s no secret there is grind in this game. People need to stop pointing to when anet said they don’t want to make a grindy game, because, you know what, it’s too late for that. The game is all about grind and has been for a while. Deal with it or find a new game.
Nothing personal with ,,brushing you off" Just little payback for ,,QQing about every little thing" ;-) This is not little thing becouse it changes (or changed if you want) game to something absolutely different then it was before. And there is no QQing at least not me. I give my opinions here and try to put some suggestions. That is far from QQ.
I think we both see Anet and it’s work same way. I just dont want to accept what they are doing with the game that easy and i am using all my rights to do something about that. I know i may not be able to change it but at least i try before i will really have to go somewhere else.

Sorry to break it to all of you who hope/think that ascended will be sold via laurels, tokens, badges. Crafting to 500 will be useless if that was the case.
No if it would be same hard as via crafting. I just gived some quick examples, nothing final. Other ways how to get ascended gear should not make ascended gear easier to get but only more bareable for those who don’t like gear grind, crafting or be forced to do everything in game to get one piece of gear.
I think some people are totally missing the point of the type of goal ascended gear is supposed to provide.
I’m pretty sure gold sinks and increasing gem sales are a big part of the ascended equation as well.

naw, they could have used the laurel system (see ascended trinkets in pve and wvw) for acquiring ascended weapons and armor to start as well. would have been pretty easy for them to allow players to purchase X ascended piece for X laurels, X gold, X crafting mat or X badges to accomplish the same goals.
don’t make excuses for a poor implementation decision that only provides 1 reliable method to obtain ascended gear and alienates players who don’t like to craft in the process.

Anyway it is not only laurels that could be another source of ascended weapons and armor. Badges of honor, guild comendations, fractal relics or combination of those. Even dungeon tokens could serve well here.Anything, except Laurels. I hate time-gating much more than farming.
I understand why you hate it and i am not fan of time gating too. And i greatly fear one thing. If miracle would happen and they would give us more reliable ways how to get ascended gear for example those laurels they would anyway set price so hight that it would take too long to get one piece of gear. Something like 50 laurels for one piece :-D

And what would be reasonable price? Lets say i want to buy it via relics, so if i do 40+fractal per day i can have it in 14 days just like in crafting . Same for tokens or badges. How much tokens can average player (the one that has real life) get in 14 days? And if someone want it faster then he can have it faster. As same as crafting now gives people way how to have weapons faster if they want to spend more gold. He still has to obtain required amount of currency, but he could choose what to do to get his gear and that would make this gear gring at least much more enjoyable and bearable. Its much better to choose what to do then be forced to farming gold/mats and do everything in game. Where is writen that player of an MMO has to enjoy everything that the MMO offers? So why they act like it would be so?

It provides an LONG TERM end game goal related to character progression, infact is the only end game goal that offers a stat progression instead of aesthetics. The materials needed to get it encourages play throughout all areas of the game.
The 3 ascended materials for obsidian refinement you can earn doing world bosses, dungeons, fractals, world vrs world, and killing champs/opening chests any where in the open world.
Having max crafting, something that most of use used throughout our leveling process now offers a continuation for end game. They would have a hard time adding armor acquisition methods outside of drops to other areas of the game because crafting acts as a time, effort, and money gate.
Materials of all tiers that would have to be gathered in all areas of open world, in world vrs world, or via gold through your favorite income producing activities. Even salvaged from items.
It is a grind only if you make it a grind, if you must have it ASAP and the only means you find acceptable to obtain that is the fastest most tedious way possible, and that bothers you, that is not the game’s fault, that is your fault. You are in no way forced to grind out gold and materials in a champ farm or any of the popular farms, nor are you gated from any content from not having ascended weapons and armor.
I for one certainly don’t plan on focusing on obtaining my armor in the first week or even the first month, as I am a die hard anti-farm player. Having already done 3 weapons, I know ascended armor will eventually fall in my lap if I just participate in multiple areas of the game, save, and keep doing what I find fun with my guild.
Long term goal is well and good (but personally, I think ascended is too far up the scale on ‘long term’, it could definitely be easier to get and still be a long term goal) but why gate content behind this “long term goal”? If you’re running fractals, you’ll NEED this armor once the cap goes up.
My friends that barely play the game can’t do high level fractals with my group anymore because agony is such a killer now. Hell, I can’t even do 40 because I haven’t gotten around to grinding for ascended weapon crafting.
LOL you need this armor for fractals? I did not realize all those people that have already hit the level 50 fractals have ascended armor before its out! Its funny to watch people bend over backwards to try to make an argument make since.
You can get as much AR as you need from fractals with rings, accessories, and back peices, especially with the new AR infusions.
No you are wrong. They will add more fractal levels so much more then 55ar will be needed. New AR slots will not be able to cover it becouse how long it takes to get at least 6 ar from it. If you are normal player and dont spend 8 hour per day in fractal. Even ascended armor crafting will be more productive for you then farming ar infusions.
Ascended armor will be needed for fractals as same as weapons are now.

Now there runs WvW topic about about comander system, becouse they thought WvW topic had less developer atention and discussion about skill lag cant change anything now becouse it is more complicated problem, as far as i know. After it Ascended discussion should came if there will be PVE and PVP discussion at same time.
Well actually the number one PvE issue was the 2 week pace of content updates. But they said that was non-negotiable and moved onto the second most asked for thing.
Not sure exactly wat dou you want to say. I was referring to second most wanted. 2 week pace of content was discussed in a first living world topic. But they really said it is something they dont want to change.

They just did it the worst way.I don’t believe that is true. If they would have done it your way there would be a host of other people who would have been complaining just like you are. So to put it another way, “Someone is always going to be upset at what is done.”

To keep crafting as it is and add more ways how to obtain ascended gear can’t frustrate or angry anyone. People who want to craft will craft and people who want to do it differently will do it differently.

Why cant i buy all ascended gear for relics and laurels like accessories? Why they shouldn’t let you get it in the way you enjoy is because they cannot give everyone everything in exactly the way they want it. You cannot please everyone in everything. There are many things in this game I would like to do differently but I don’t complain because things are not done the way I wish they were. I accept things for how they are not how I would like them to be.

I was already considering it when ascended weapons came. But i wanted to give them chance to change things according to feedbacks of many people.
There is also a lot of feedback for the ascended items. I think this is really split down the middle. I know a lot of people in my guild don’t mind the ascended at all. The thing your looking at is the feedback on forums. It is a proven fact, people are more likely to go to a forum to express their displeasure with something then to go there to express their pleasure. That is why it looks like a large portion of the populace is against it. But just think about all the ones that don’t come here.
I also haven’t seen anything about the CDI process even talking about ascended stuff, could you link me where they said they was going to talk about it in the coming weeks. I hope you can find the fun in the game, and hope you stay, but this is a losing battle about ascended, once it is here they are not taking it away. So it is time to accept that it is here and move on.

Doing boring stuff (and dont tell me you enjoy everything you have to do for ascended gear) to get to fun stuff is gear gring and it really hurts my gaming experience.
To be honest, I don’t mind leveling my crafting up to 500 and I don’t mind doing the crafting and events it takes to get the mats for the weapons. It is all part of the experience for me. I don’t look at it as grind. I look at it like it as game play. It’s just what I have to do to get what I want. I don’t expect things to just be given to me. I like working toward something and being excited when I finally get it.
I’m sorry it hurts your gaming experience but what I have to do to get what I want enhances my experience. It took much, much more to get my legendary, and not one part of obtaining what I did to get it bothered me at all. Just part of the game and part of my fun.

Nonsense.
First of all this game was perfect before ascended gear. We had lot of thinks to work on even without it and it was truly not needed if you dont want it. Not like ascended gear that is needed for some concent and gives advantage, even very low but gives.
You played wrong type of game if you wanted gear grind in this game becouse there was non before ascended and it was awesome.As to this game being perfect before ascended gear, that is a matter of opinion and not one many would share I believe. There were many things that needed to be fixed and I believe ANet has done a great job of doing many of those things.
And really, HOW is ascended armor being in the game hurting you? No one is forcing you to grind for ascended gear. It doesn’t give any real noticeable advantage outside of fractals. I am going to work on getting some for my toon that I use for fractals and feel no desire to get it for any other character.

But i am fractal player. I have 55 ar now and when they will add more fractal level i will have to get ascended armor. I play hight level fractals becouse i enjoy it as good challanging pve content.
So i will have to do lot of other things even if i dont enjoy them just to do what i enjoy. New AR slots are much less effective and even more time consuming then Ascended crafting.

Those games had a grind. Even though getting to 500 on crafting is tedious, it no way compares to the time and money spent leveling crafting in DAoC. on item could take like 3 or 4 minutes for the bar to go across and then you still had the chance to fail. I currently have one crafting profession at 500, and that is because I luckily had the mats for it available to level it up. I am slowly working my others up. In no way does it compare to other mmo’s out there.

Thank god this game doesn’t have the Tier armor system like WoW did where every 6 months or so all of your armor and weapons turn to crap when they release something that much better. At least Ascended items have very minimal stat increases and they are fully accessible to every single player if you so chose to make it. The best armor in other games like WoW is only available to the absolute top tier players in some cases

And yes we dont have new tier of gear every 6 months. Instead of that you will repeat same process for even a year if you have multiple characters just to gear them up.

I play this game to enjoy it. I don’t rush to get stuff. I had everything for my first ascended weapon within a weeks time, except dragonite ore. It took me over a month to get it because I wouldn’t go do world boss, unless they was called out in guild chat and I wasn’t already envolved in something else. I didn’t grind for anything. Just like now, I am playing normally and everything is coming together. That is not a grind. I am not spending any money to speed the process up. It will be the same for me when the armor comes. Everyone that has complaints about ascended being a grind, are wanting it as fast as they can, and not let it come naturally. This is where my stance comes from and how I came to my opinion about it. It comes from me playing the game to way I want.
Now the ones that haven’t crafted before, I can see where the grind argument comes in, and this one falls on ANET’s shoulders for not having ascended in the game when it released, cause then everyone would have known they needed to craft to get it.
Most of the complaints I see are all about perception, not about the grind, cause honestly, if you just play the game, you will be able to get where you want to be, but if you need it now, then you will have to grind to get it.
I respect that you enjoy crafting ascended gear, but it was not supposed to be in game. We had promised vertical progression and only very little of horizontal. But ascended gear brings much more horizontal progression to game. I watched for i think 3 month before i bought it to see if its really the game they promised. Especialy gear grind free and it really was so i bought it. So to answer your question, if it would be on release how it is now i would not waste my money on it.
These topics are getting old. There is nothing to discuss. If you wanted a discussion it should have happened months ago not now on the verge of releasing.
this topic started that many months ago and we are still mad that says something. so no we wont accept blindly what could possibly the worst grind/money sink in mmo history
Seriously, you just came with worst grind/money sink in mmo history. Really? Man, you must not have played very many mmo’s then. I started with Everquest and then Dark Age of Camelot. Those games had a grind. Even though getting to 500 on crafting is tedious, it no way compares to the time and money spent leveling crafting in DAoC. on item could take like 3 or 4 minutes for the bar to go across and then you still had the chance to fail. I currently have one crafting profession at 500, and that is because I luckily had the mats for it available to level it up. I am slowly working my others up. In no way does it compare to other mmo’s out there.

Ok but one litle problem in era of Everquest grind was a norm in games. As same as losing everything while death and many other things.
This game is really going to be old style grindy game (even if there are some worse games) and it was supposed to be next-gen mmo. If was supposed to everything else then what is going to be now.

I suppose not. But it is same thing people enjoyed in a past but no longer do exept some nostagic fans. (Even if we were very angry about losing everything it was a norm in games and we accepted it.)
GW2 was supposed to be free of everything that frustrated us in previous games from boring gear grind to mob,deposit,loot stealing.
And now they want to be same as those games we played before while they are still claiming themselfs a next-gen and that is ridiculous.

You dont have to craft them. They are just minimal stronger and you will feel 0 difference. Srsly why are so many people kittening about this? Their is nothing wrong about it.
I am fractal player and even if i dont need it right now when they will increase fractal levels i will have to craft for AR. Getting enough AR via AR slots would probably take even much more time then crafting full ascended gear.
Now or some time later i am forced to gear grind.
Basically, ArenaNet could not create a game with long term rewards without having to add gear with increased stats to cate for something.

Then why even add it to the game to begin with…

There were a lot of long term goals before acended gear. Extremly great number of visual improvements including legendary. You can spend months on character with this. And it was true ,,make it only if you want it" not like ascended gear which has advantage and is needed for some content.

I just crafted an Ascended Shortbow for my alt the other day. Nothing unfriendly about it.
Ask rest of us who have +3 characters. +/-3 weapons for every character one per +/-2 weeks x 4 characters (if you have 4 characters and i know lot of people who have) = +/-24 weeks of weapon crafting. This is extremely alt unfriendy and armor will be much more terible.
PS: You have to craft every day otherwise you can delay completion greatly.

Never ending grind is all it introduces.
Not “never ending,” but kitten close to it. The grind will end if ascended is truly the ceiling and all your characters have all ascended gear. By then we’ll likely all be dead too.
And the old man said his last words ,,All my characters are full ascended, now i can die"….

Anet said that we will use the rest of the t7 mats for ascended armor crafting by the end of the year, and according to some rumers i’ve heared that its coming on the 10th…..and the next path as i see is wintersday…
And is that bad? Acended armor would just anger and divide playerbase just like weapons did.
We’re getting compensated with “fun” bugs and leaderboard that makes no sense.
Now after update i am curious if anyone think leaderboard is worth wiping our progress. And if anyone actualy cares about it and is eager to see him there :-D
My last fractal yet was 48 with PUG and we did it without bigger problems. We were lucky that we got maw at the end but i belive we would do others too. Maybe with some wipe but we would do it.
My personal experience so far is that pug fail more at lower levels then hight levels. Becouse at lower levels players are usually unexperienced but at 48 everyone usually know what to do.
Who says you need 70AR in a level 50? That makes no sense, you should be able to survive in a level 50 with 55AR. Source on this?
60 AR would still be somewhat doable I think, depending on which fractals you end up with. Would still be a really tough challenge. 65 is still hard. 70 would be needed for the less hardcore people.
55 AR perhaps with the best of teams and really easy rolls.
You get hit for 18% HP for like 5 ticks in a row. So pretty much every 10 – odd seconds one or more party members downs. And during the AR ticks, healing is also reduced so it’s hard to counter.
That is wrong as far as know you get 18% ticks only on 4th boss fractal, rest of fractals has agony like 40-49.
With 55 just use some stong healing skills and you will be fine.

I am fairly sure what Chris means, is that there will be one topic for wvw now, because the previous one was a bit disappointing, and he wants to give the WvW CDI participants a “focused experience of the spirit of the initiative and how it is intended to work”.
After the one week (and with the experienced gained within the week), he will decide whether to continue with one or three topics at a time.

lvl 33 from europe (and a gaming connection) is nowhere comparable to 30-59……
Way harder….but i bet its the instability messing everything up.
Instabilities are just small feature there is no reason to reset us becouse of them.
We have the most wonderful of compensation: we get to play 19 carebear levels. Isn’t this great?

I think maybe 0,00001% of the gw2 community was affected by this change. I know nobody who has a fractal level above 20.
Well your calculation is terrible :-D You have to be very casual fractal player to have only 20- level after one year.
I know lot of people +40. I am no like you i dont want to put here some wrong percentage but the number is for sure whole and nothing like 0,000 :-D

They wiped our progress. Now we have to it again. And with some instabilities. For me it is just something i already had and have to do again without any compensation or good reason why. And leaderboard is very bad exuce. No one even wanted it.

We still didn’t get any compensation, this is very unfair. Our progress got wiped for nothing.
Yes gold reward is hugely unbalanced. One gold and few silvers is no reward for fractals. If this update was supposed to bring balance in gold reward it faild becouse fractals are much more time consuming and harder then any dungeon, even Arah if you dont get all easiest fractals and that is very rare.
I’m bummed that the rate of CDI activity is getting cut to 1/3 of its initial vision- especially after seeing what I feel were most of the weaknesses of the initial launch detected, dissected, and likely resolved (or at least greatly improved) in this thread. If we have to crawl before we can walk, ok, but I’ll always be wishing we could get to the point where process dances even if it means another 1/3 or 1/2 of the threads fall short along the way.
I worry that with all the eggs in one basket, we risk having one bad mis-step or failed attempt make the whole process look bad because there’s only one thread at a time. It really restricts the rate at which we can detect problems and improve the process and it cuts the actual collaboration off to a trickle of what it could be.
Well i certainly understand where your coming from. So the other option is to run 3 on Monday and we go in knowing that we still have some way to go in terms of us all getting everything right in terms of the spirit of the initiative.
I am happy to do this to. Thoughts?
