It’s flatout kitten if you ask me. I tested it with a friend. He stood aside, let me solo a fat monster. He does no damage, hes further away. So even though I am meleeing this monster, the monster was convinced my friend was more of a threat, as it kept chasing him for no reason.

I hope it will be free in the future, as I am changing it up quite often. How else am I gonna find a good build for PVE/Dungeons.. Regular PVE and dungeons play very different, but switching your trait build back and forth is just not practical atm. It cost a lot of money and you need to be in a place with a trainer… just annoying.

To me, it seems stupid that many of our skills have altered or no effect on dungeon monsters. We have way larger cool downs on our skills than monsters do and on top of this they just ignore our effects.
I wish they based the difficulty of dungeon monsters more on reflexes and timing than just nullifying a lot of our skills. Because right now, they are not even difficult, but rather boring.. and some are just annoying.

Even the silly (and easy) heart events can be more fun to play. For example that little arena where you pick up the shield, and time your block accordingly or the Trainer knocks you down. That stuff is hilarious and fun, and far more engaging than a fat monster that ignores most cc. Of course this is all just one man’s opinion, people expect different things from the same game.

The warrior is more straight forward than other professions. It makes it easy to pickup but difficult to master.

Also, an observation.. Warriors are a lot more forgiving than the other professions, especially at lower levels. They also seems to be better at handling multiple enemies while being less efficient in 1v1 situations.

When me and a friend went into my personal story for example. He let me solo the boss monster. So he stood aside, doing NO DAMAGE whatsoever while I was spamming melee damage. Yet the boss monster went after my friend most of the time.. wth is going on here?

Is it opposite day or something?

Is this some hack or what?

I just don’t bother with dungeons for a while. Not worth it atm, I’ll wait for patch on monday. I could see doing story mode, but farming Explorer mode is just useless now, I get so little reward.. It would take me ages before I can afford any dungeon armor.

I want clear signals from boss monsters when they attack, so everyone has the opportunity to block it. They should do massive damage when not dodged/blocked. Auto attack from the boss monsters should be toned down a bit. So people will have to choose carefully when to dodge. Right now any attack does a lot of damage and you really can’t dodge/block them all.

Remove the invulnerability moments from monsters. That necromancer in CM Explorer mode really spams it. It just makes the fight last longer, but in a really boring way.

The most fun I’ve had in a dungeon is Sorrow’s Embrace. The end boss has a very simple mechanic that requires people to constantly shift their position. This may not seem like a big deal, but it improved the experience by a lot.

Just thought of this. Honest question.

For those of you that have DR affecting sparse numbers of runs DAYS apart: Do you log in, run dungeons, then log back off nearly immediately after (perhaps in disgust)?

I’m wondering if the system isn’t taking REAL time between runs into account, rather, just PLAYED time between runs.

I had a feeling it was something like this, but when I logged in again today I first played for an hour or so doing regular stuff (Dynamic Events/Hearts/crafting). Still got diminished returns for a doing a dungeon in explorer mode for the first time. So yeah, it’s not that.
The system is treating my weekly dungeon run as a continuous farm or someth :\ And it’s not because we didn’t kill every single monster or whatever, because other party members got twice the reward and more.

I have multiple chars.. I just like dungeons becuz most of the heart events are too easy. I like taking on a challenge, but right now… it’s discouraging. Because after all that effort, it gives me less money and xp than doing heart events that require zero skill.
Playing 2 out of 7 days in the week is not exactly a lot, I paid for the game so why wouldn’t I play it.

I love what ArenaNet is doing for the MMORPG genre, Guild wars 2 is amazing.
But broken = broken.

The current system is broken and should be removed until it is fixed. Right now honest players are being punished. I mostly play on weekends, so that means I’ll have to wait another week and MAYBE it’ll be fixed….

atm the system is punishing honest players.
it’s very frustrating. I rather see an exploiter not getting punished than innocent people being punished, even though I hate cheaters/bug exploiters..

It’s been roughly a week since I last did a dungeon run (SE Story mode). Today I went in TA Explorer mode, we took the forward-forward path. Took us 1h10min~+, I got 30 tokens, 42K XP (which is barely 1/3 of my XP bar) and 10 silver.

System is broken. All my previous dungeons had diminished returns as well, I thought this time it might be different, seeing there was a patch on the 25th. Yet, I still get crap.

Don’t like dungeons? Hard? Group with me.

Instead of handing out private lessons, you could get a bigger audience if you recorded a video of a dungeon run. Perhaps with some tips added? I can imagine lot of ppl would like to see this.

good question…. any americans here with the same problem?? Still this doesn’t explain, why me and my friend go in a dungeon on the same time. We have the same ISP and we live 1 street away from each other.. yet he gets 19 silver 50copper, while I got 9 silver….for doing the exact same run :S

It’s not even differentiating between different dungeon runs days apart with me.. It’s treating me like I’m on one continuous farm of dungeon runs ;\ while I basicly do 1 or 2 every weekend.. with a whole day rest between the two dungeons.

god kitten it’s still not fixed. I barely do a dungeon or 2 a week.. for the love of god.. why do I get diminished returns.

Before patch: I did a Sorrow’s Embrace dungeon story mode first time.. took well over an hour.. closer to 2 hours actually. Got a reward of 9 silver. While others -in the same kitten party- got 19 and up. Days before that, I did CM Explorer mode and got 7 silver…

after patch:
We just did TA Explorer mode the forward/forward path. FOR VERY FIRST TIME EVER, took us 1h10min and i got…. 10silver 72 copper 30 tokens amd 42k XP… where is my other half of the reward…. ARGHH wtf?

close dungeons or stop the kitten anti-speed run system while its broken or someth… :| you guys are punishing honest players…

reading about ppl getting over 40 silver… aahh so frustrating when the highest I ever got was 10.

Same thing happening here. Me and my friend always do dungeons together. Today was no exception. It was the first dungeon today, and also first time we did this dungeon. He got 19 silver, someone else 23 and me 9.5 wtf

When my friend joined me on personal story he used to get karma points, and I got my quest reward. Nowadays he gets nothing for joining me in personal story or vice versa.

Just cleared Sorrow’s Embrace story mode in just under two hours with random group
Must say, this one is a lot more fun than the previous dungeons. Good work ArenaNet.

Did only get 9 silver 50 copper though, while others got 19 silver or even 23.. What the hell is it based on?? I am same level. And four of us did the dungeon for first time.

Oh come on guys.. seriously. The boss battles are not engaging and challenging in a fair way. Some other games do this beautifully, where Guild Wars 2 fails to deliver. I love this game but the dungeons are in need of some serious changes.

Do you really want to compete with a boss with incredibly high hp pools, plenty invulnerability moments and unannounced damage spikes? Be serious… I don’t mind games being hard. A boss can even have the ability to one-shot me for all I care, as long as I feel that I had an opportunity to react/block it. There is a big difference between having cheap difficulty (quite tedious) and being challenging (engaging).

You’ve hit the nail on the head there. Unfortunately the forums are loaded with crying about ‘fixing the reward’. The real thing that needs fixing is the dungeon mechanics.

To be fair though.. the dungeon rewards do seem a quite low compared to Hearts. But I rather see the dungeon mechanics fixed than the reward. If the dungeons are actually engaging and fun, I would play them without caring about rewards.

The Gw2 dungeons can be considered difficult. I certainly don’t mind them being difficult. The problem however, is that the dungeons are hard for all the wrong reasons.

The difficulty of dungeons is heavily based on:
- the high damage from dungeon monsters with little to no warning. It is very hard to see what a monster is doing with all the area effects going on. There are also times when I’m pretty sure there is no warning at all. For example: traps spawning on your feet withouth there being a red outline first.
- the rather large health pool of dungeon monsters

This is making things more difficult, but not more challenging/fun.

If you look at other games, for example: Vindictus. They don’t limit the amount of dodging to 2 rolls, instead they have a rather large stamina bar. When you are walking/running normally, the stamina regenerates. When you dodge/block you consume stamina. The boss monsters can still do MASSIVE amounts of damage, but they almost always have a tell. The dodge and block mechanics require a good amount of timing. The difficulty level is about the same, but the fights are a lot more challenging and fun. I understand that Vindictus is an entirely different game but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from it.

Basicly it comes down to this:
I love Guild wars 2, but the dungeons are somewhat of a letdown in their current state. If dungeons are truly fun, I will want to play them regardless of the reward.
