Rob used to start “Dungeon Patch Discussion” threads for each major patch that went out to start discussions and gather feedback on the changes. Those are the best to necro, but you gotta wait until the date (always written month/day, like “Dungeon Patch Discussion 6/28”) is close so people think that the current ArenaNet gives two kittens about player feedback :^)

Well, St. Hrouda was likely looking into adding an in-game UI for it, probably somewhere in the hero panel’s achievement section. The API guys may or may not have access to anything he left, and that’s assuming that his 2+ year old, aborted work-in-progress-from-a-former-developer patch that he made against a very outdated codebase is miraculously still around somewhere ;-)

(and that’s assuming he even got a chance to start working on it before they laid him off).

Anyway, I have confidence in the API team. They’re not your everyday red-posters ;-)

A common request in the dungeons forums is for a way to figure out which dungeon paths a player has completed, both all-time and since last reset. Seems like a pretty simple feature, but asking for anything dungeon-related is a non-starter for the in-game development team. Perhaps our wonderful API team could come to our rescue?

Would it be possible to expose an authenticated endpoint that shows:

1) Which dungeon paths have been completed for all time? (relevant for dungeon master achievement)
2) Which dungeon paths have been completed since the last reset? (useful for making sure no paths are missed in a daily tour)

I can put together a more formal RFC if needed (let me know), but first, is this information that you guys have access to?

Both of these usecases could be covered simply providing a timestamp of the most recent completion.

1. What were the meetings like when they decided F&F dungeon and Aetherblade Retreat would be temporary content? I’m 100% sure Hrouda was in favor, and probably argued it quite hard, of it being permanent content. I’m guessing things got heated and I would love to know the people who overruled him, what their idea was and what the envisioned the results would be.

Today marks the release of the last bit of content I built for ArenaNet. I had always hoped my last hurrah would be an epic dungeon that would stand the test of time, and provide entertainment for players to the very end… but instead it’s an instance that will only persist for two weeks, and then go away.

(From his facebook. Can’t link it here, but google will turn it up pretty quick).

He seemed pretty on the ball as far as what we were looking for, and more importantly, he was willing to talk with us and find out for sure. When ArenaNet votekicked him was a significant turning point for this game, especially as they never bothered to replace him.

Those must have been interesting meetings for sure.

Let’s also not forget that, even considering fight length, using TW locks you out of using elites for a full 3 minutes. Meanwhile FMW will be ready by the time you get to the next fight.

FWM should have a somewhat higher CD, while TW’s cd is much too long (always has been, IMHO). 60-90s would be plenty.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time this has happened either. It’s just ‘business as usual’ for ArenaNet.

Maybe someone could at least shed some light on why it’s taking so long to address?

Is it just because HoT is swamping the team to where they can’t even spend 2 minutes making a post about it? Is it that there’s no one responsible for dungeon content to make the call? Or is it just that customers aren’t important to company and aren’t worth the time of day to them?

Because frankly, given what we’re asking for, the amount of time we’ve been waiting, and the number of times this scenario has played out, it’s getting increasingly hard to believe that it’s anything other than the last one.

Has any1 ever started a mass guilt trip on Anet to get them to release dungeons? For example start a mass petition to donate 10$ to a charity of Anet’s choice if they implement a new dungeon.

Where do I sign?

1. Make a special stat which affects the way your iframes work. Basically, when you invest no points in that stat, your dodges are, like, only half (or any number here) effective. You would get hit by 50% of damage, you would get stunned for 1.5 seconds instead of 3 and so on. Of course, rebalance numbers across the board.
But if you invested in that stat, you would get full invulnerability.

Meh. Not sure what problem that’s trying to solve. Is this a suggestion that just breaks up the zerk meta for the sake of breaking the zerk meta? I’d rather see the content challenge us to pack survival, and be released frequently enough that we don’t spend years memorizing the same tired encounters.

Or you could mix everything up and get supernomad’s of ultimate phiwness.

True, it would make CC’s rather pointless since interrupts are pretty broken as well >.< Good point.

Your solution sounds like Wildstar, and it’s a good system — it lets interrupts matter, and prevents locking the boss down. Me likey. It’d be a good way to implement the breakbar.

Ice storm deals too much damage, I get it, but what’s wrong with deep freeze? Just that it lasts 5 seconds?

I don’t think that the skill itself needs to be nerfed, but it’s kittened up that pretty much every low level boss fight is:

DF > DPS > Dead

before the boss can even move. For the “hard” bosses, bring a thief to headshot, rinse, and repeat. It’s kittening lame.

I agree that if they nerfed DF directly it would just be replaced by some other long stun, and that other fixes should be done instead. Whether this means lowering damage, bumping HP, or something else, I’m not sure.

At launch, I don’t believe DF was this broken because the low level dungeons were more difficult (pre-ferocity, NPE, etc), so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the skill itself — it’s the gameplay it allows. This is why I was happy to hear that they were fixing downscaling — maybe the bosses would be able to live through the initial burst and maybe, just maybe, get out an attack or two.

But instead it feels like they ‘fixed downscaling’ by making the level 80 content easier, for kitten’s sake.

At this point, the only possible fixes on the horizon are the breaker bar, which may negate DF’s OP-ness depending on how it’s implemented, or the “Challenging Group Content” making things more difficult (multiple bosses, etc).

If you skipped my wall of text I actually do have a discussion point. What if a boss just got an insane retal buff when stunned? How would you see this affecting gameplay? Good or bad?

To be fair how long of those 2+ years was it a prominent tactic? It was fixed pretty soon after that tournament where people went hog wild with it.

A long, long time. I’m not sure exactly, as I didn’t really get into dungeons until about 6-8 months after launch, and by then it was common knowledge.

It was only publicized in that tournament because that was the first time there ever was a tournament — it’d been reported, questioned, and discussed countless times by then.

BTW, OP has some valid points. These things are not consistently handled, and similar fuzziness around other exploits and the restricted ruleset has made me question the speedrun community before (it was the CoE vs. Arah p3 door skips for me). I’ll share the answer I got: “The community voted on what they wanted to allow, and felt it was more fun and competitive this way.”

I’m not a fan of the old FGS rush, but it was around long enough to become commonplace.

Great point. FGS was as broken as it was for 2+ years and was widely (ab)used. ArenaNet never lifted a finger or uttered a word. If they didn’t care for so long, why would we? It wasn’t like we weren’t trying to get them to comment on it or do something about it.

It was cheesy, overpowered and needed a nerf. But they left it like that for years on end and never said a word (Ice Bow says hi, btw). What else are we to think besides “working as intended” when they had ample opportunity to fix it, or just admit it was broken and OP? If they had said anything to that effect, it would have been removed from the restricted ruleset immediately.

We can only guess as to what was actually intended in such a case.

And that, my friends, is the real problem here…

Ideally there would be healthy discussion and devs willing able to talk about these things. But they don’t want to spoil living story plotlines, so we’ll never know if traits/skills/bosses are broken.

/s I can’t wait to watch HoT content rot! This level of customer support really makes me want to go preorder it! I completely trust ArenaNet’s ability to create content, maintain their game, and keep their players in the loop about the things that matter to them.

As for the ArenaNet employees who do care and are really trying to help — thanks again <3 It’s frustrating for us, but it must be much more so for you. Keep “fighting the good fight!”

Keep it civil guys, we don’t want to lose this thread over bickering and name calling. Remember that this is a forum for discussion and to help / educate other players, not just a place to plop your balls on the table and scream “LOOK AT THEM!!!” no matter how big, hairy, and lovely they may be.

Pathing is a rather obscure trick that doesn’t see a lot of widespread use outside of the more hardcore community. While very helpful, it’s neither essential nor obvious, so it’s no surprise that most people haven’t found out about it. Let’s educate folks instead of mocking them.

Or…ahem port half of Arah back to beginning and open LFG stating everyone welcome. I’m sure NOBODY does that, right? Riiiiiiight??

Pathing:

When you’re stealthed, some mobs will still chase you. They won’t engage you, but they’ll follow you around. The little oozes at the start of Arah p1 just before the turrets before Ancient Ooze are a good example — they’ll often follow stealthed parties into the spot where we clear the spiders before Ancient Ooze.

But, if you let them catch up to you, they stop following. So if you stop around the area where the “ledge” is in the very first Arah p1 skip and let the little oozes get close to you, they won’t follow into the next fight. That’s pathing.

If you’re the thief, it’s best to save Shadow Refugee for times where you need to stop to path mobs. Everyone stops moving there anyway, and since you won’t need blasts you don’t need to worry about entering combat.

Pathing can also refer to making mobs walk towards you. Think of the Arah p3 mobs at the start in the area where the elites block the first door. You’ve probably noticed that they walk towards you without attacking for a bit. If you let them walk towards you, then waypoint (or just move quickly out of their pathing radius), you can actually move them out of the way and put them where you want them. You can actually just pull them to one side of the room and walk past them up to the elites if you want.

There are some mobs that do this and some don’t. Doesn’t seem like the “pathing radius” is bigger than the aggro radius for some mobs (or it just doesn’t exist — same behavior).

But that would mean they’d allocate developers to dungeon content. The problem with this forum is that there’s no one at ArenaNet to talk to us, or exciting developments to share, or a future to be excited for. Dungeons are dead and buried.

I think more than nerfing players what this game needs and always needed is a buff to dungeons, not the reverse

Either way, right now Arah is a faceroll.

My logic is: they need to either rebalance our damage or retune and buff the dungeons — and they ain’t gonna touch dungeons, so nerf it is.

It is nice not having to change traits for Lupi anymore, though. Even in a decent casual party he’s dead before you’d really need anything changed from a full DPS build on thief.

It’s probably a lot to manage dude. I’ve enjoyed teaching dungeons for a couple years, but I know I wouldn’t like having something like [NOOB] dropped into my lap. Especially not now, with the current state of dungeons in this game.

Personally, I’d not say anything about it unless I was willing to take over management of the guild myself. Not sure if that’s your intention or not. I know it wouldn’t be mine :P

I can totally see them nerfing quickness in general, seeing how much more accessible it is now. I’d guess it’ll be something like stealth stacking — stacks duration, but with a cap. Seems reasonable to me. Perma-quickness is rather OP….

SE p2 and CoF 3 are the favorite paths in both dungeons for me, I rarely do them though because most of my friends opt to skip them.

Same here! Both have really fun endboss fights. SEp2 is fun with first timers. With an inexp party, everytime at the end boss we barely get them down in time before they reset and newbies are always absolutely overjoyed when we get it, especially if it takes a few tries It’s honestly one of the few paths I enjoy pugging, just to watch people having fun.

I won’t embarrass myself by sharing how long it took me to do the CoF p3 bomb puzzle the first time…. >.< I’d never really needed mobility before that back then, it was quite an eye-opener, lol

Come to think of it…maybe they’re my favorites because no one ever wants to run them. I’m just not sick to death of them xD
