This is a known issue that has been around since the fractal was released.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on a fix, and there’s really no way to avoid it other than to say “kitten this unmaintained POS game that has fallen so, so far since launch” and stop playing.

Incidentally, that workaround also applies to all of the bugs in the game.

I have a friend, who’s a friend of a friend, who’s a friend of a friend of someone who must know something about GW2 development, because every time this guy tells me something, it ends up being correct.

I still don’t buy this 100%, but considering the source, I won’t rule it out…Raid (or at least GW2's version of them) announcement at Gamescom, and Marrionette fractal in the works. Treat it as rumor for now, but keep an eye out.

The first one is rather amusing considering what happened there last time. I hope they include crafting and are zergable.

Re: fractal changes, there is a lot of good stuff in there. A lot of trivial things to implement that greatly improve QoL for players: Less RNG in fractals, relics for skins, higher levels, etc. Glad to see them, but too little too late unless they add a lot of new fractal instances. These things should have gone in a loooong time ago, and it really wouldn’t have been that much effort, and what we really need is (lots of) new instanced content, not just new rewards for rerunning the same ol’ kitten. But we know how they prioritize things….

They also mentioned in the article that they’ll be nerfing fractals to “make them more accessible”. Don’t be too surprised when post-HoT level 100 isn’t that much harder than current level 50.

Take a read through them instead of just reading that one snippet. There are a lot more substantial complaints other than “we have to do our jobs!” in there….

- “Bad dynamic with directors that tend to lead to hostile interactions instead of approachable management.”
- “Sink or swim environment that has led to a lot of turnover.”
- “Bad environment within the programming department, with a standoffish and isolated tools team, a core engine team disconnected from reality, and gameplay programmers often left without support.”
- “Fragile and convoluted codebase that makes it difficult to work in at times.” (Lupi autoattack anyone?)
- “IT department seems overloaded and undertrained to support a game team.”
- "The unfortunate part of working at ArenaNet really came after Guild Wars 2 shipped. The company folded into a lot of smaller teams, but refused to try to establish any kind of hierarchy. This led to a lot of “fake” titles, confusion, and jostling for position. Yikes. I’ve experienced some of these sorts of issues first hand, and it’s not going to build a motivated team. It’s how you push away your talent. Life’s too short to deal with that sort of nonsense, and people who know their worth won’t stay in such an environment.

Oh well. Maybe they’ll get their ducks in a row after HoT, but it sounds like they’re just really having a problem transitioning from a small studio to a large one. If as many people have left as it sounds like they have, it’ll be tough to recover.

They don’t care lol. It isn’t the gem store or PVE, so it isn’t important.

These days it’s HoT or nothing at this point — PvE doesn’t even get that much love, especially the instanced stuff:

tldr: 4 months ago there was a significant change in behavior on a favorite dungeon boss (Lupi from Arah) that wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes. We’re just trying to find out if the change was intentional or an unintended bug.

Four months later, they still haven’t even answered that simple question. Absolutely appalling. Check out this redpost in particular — even the QA lead is fed up with the company’s refusal to provide basic support for their product.

Their inability refusal to address simple matters like this just makes me wonder if HoT is going to be as broken and unsupported as the vanilla game. Will they just push it out and watch it die? All signs point to yes.

It’s been four months and we still haven’t even gotten a “yes, we meant to do that” or a “oops, that wasn’t supposed to change.” Is that too much to ask for a change that wasn’t listed in the patch notes?

We get that this isn’t high priority with HoT prep, but it’d be great to see some basic support for the current content that your customers can actually access.

That clears a lot up, actually, gabbo! Someone is trying to get dungeon changes into the patch notes, but they’re getting taken out by someone higher up. Nice.

Hey guys,the necro threads got me thinking. Did dungeons use to actually be a lot harder? Like did anet change them to make them easier? Or was it that people learned how to insanely buff dps (banners/fury/might/vuln/spotter/bow etc)?

These necro threads make it sound like a completely different game. I’ve only been playing gw2 for a year.

Some of it was L2P issues, but the dungeons were gradually nerfed for the first year or so after launch as folks complained (“Why is this challenging? I don’t play games for challenge, I just want shineys!! QQ”).

Then two big nerfs happened that especially affected non-80 dungeons: NPE removed traits from lower level toons, so they “rebalanced” low level dungeons to be faceroll, and the crit dmg —> ferocity change also made them easier. Fights that now last 5 seconds used to be much longer.

But IIRC, the CoF endboss mentioned in that red post was nerfed in response to complaints.

I had a bit of hope when they announced that downscaling would be fixed, but honestly I haven’t really noticed a difference in the few runs I’ve been on.

We’re looking into tech solutions for displaying the paths you have run, but our resources are pooled more heavily in fixing bugs, exploits, and other issues before features like this will be worked on.

As a note though, I have brought this very thing up many times. I’d like to see a way for it to work with our achievement system without making a massive slew of achievements that clutter up that UI with even more information.

Sasha, this is an old thread. A reaaaally old thread. Excuse our craziness, us dungeon folks get a little odd out here in our corner.

We discussed this about a week ago, but I can’t find the thread atm, and the search feature doesn’t work, so pbbbbbbbbbbbt. I’ll give you the short version:

1) People have been requesting this for years (source: this thread)
2) At one point a dev said “That’s a great idea, I’ll look into it” or something to that effect.
3) Said dev got laid off, dungeon team disbanded, very little attention paid to dungeons since by ArenaNet
4) No reason to believe they’d suddenly start paying attention to instanced PvE problems and add this, so the discussion is pointless.

To answer your question as to why: They think dungeons were a mistake and are no longer devoting any resources to them other than life-support type maintenance.

Right now, your best bet is to go here:

Leave a message saying you want to see that feature added. It won’t allow you to check this in-game, but it will then be possible to use an external website to view which paths have been done.

Hey Rob, have you seen http://www.gw2dungeons.net? It’s pretty cool — looks like the community (mostly Wethospu) has really stepped up and taken care of that already. There’re also things like build info on there — even a recommended dungeon build for necros!

I’m sure there was already a discussion about it, but it doesn’t hurt to flail my arms about things.

Edit: unless, in the event of me flailing my arms, I accidentally slap someone.

Not saying I really agree with it, that’s just what I remember hearing :P

I found some motivation to dig this up:

Trash mobs have too much HP, and can’t be counted on for lucrative drops from a Risk/Time vs Reward, so people interested in making money (most groups) aren’t incentivized to do it, whereas the end chest/boss are more guaranteed and accountable returns on time and risk. I also think there is something to be said about interesting trash mob mechanics making them more enjoyable of a fight.

I can’t make the rewards from trash mobs so lucrative though that people just farm the first couple trash mobs/boss in a dungeon and then rinse/repeat. We encountered this when people just farmed the first boss in an instance and then restarted it (earlier around launch time), and we had to adjust the content as a result. It’s a fine line you have to walk to encourage players to get to the end, but make the process of getting there rewarding enough as well.

I don’t imagine this next update will resolve all the skipping behavior. The path of least resistance is engrained in people, and even if I do everything I could to incentivize people, there will still be those who skip stuff. I have been fixing exploits that will require players to complete more of the events in dungeons, but I am sure people will still skip what they can to get to their end goal.

For now I would encourage those not looking to skip to find some folks who don’t like skipping and make a guild with them… or maybe look for guilds that are dedicated to not skipping, and tag along with them. I’m in a couple of them (anonymously), and it really is an effective solution to playing the game the way you want to play it: Find other people with similar interests and band together with them.

It does make sense, and people have been known to farm dungeon mobs as he’s described. Personally I think they should let them have better drops and then implement some sort of DR to combat the farming, but eh…

Dungeons are dead, and they aren’t going to change. There’s no one working on them, so the reality is that any and all suggestions for them might as well just get crumpled up and thrown in the trash.

That’s why the dungeon subforum is referred to as “The Trashcan” to those of us who frequent it

It’s a good idea, and it’s not the first time it’s been proposed. But it won’t happen. I think there’s even a Hroudagram about it where St. Rob says that they don’t have good drops because of reward balance or some such. CBA to look it up. Anyone feeling more motivated than I am?

AP is totally a great indicator of dungeon skill — I mean, look at this scrub. Prolly wears a shield on his head. Certainly couldn’t handle Arah or FotM 50 without a hard carry.

Nope, that’s from today, it came from the official GW2 AP leaderboard here: https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/achievements/friends Log in and it will show everyone on your friends list — it says you have ~1800AP. Now I’m looking at it in game and yup, you’re really at 10.6k.

AP is totally a great indicator of dungeon skill — I mean, look at this scrub. Prolly wears a shield on his head. Certainly couldn’t handle Arah or FotM 50 without a hard carry.

Nope, that’s from today, it came from the official GW2 AP leaderboard here: https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/achievements/friends Log in and it will show everyone on your friends list — it says you have ~1800AP. Now I’m looking at it in game and yup, you’re really at 10.6k.

Are the leaderboards broken? O.o

Explorable Mode – Moderate difficulty for extremely organized and well versed players. Randomly formed pick up groups should find this content very difficult. Memorable moments of accomplishment and achievement when you defeat an exceptionally difficult boss/encounter.

To say the dungeons will be the SAME 6 months from now isn’t going to hold up either. We’re going to be doing lots of updates to dungeons, changing things that didn’t work out, and introducing new features as we find the time/tech to implement them. Our hope is that dungeons will stay nice and fresh for a long time

Eh, after reading the wall of text, this isn’t really a bingo post in my opinion. OP had a kittenty experience that seems to be becoming fairly commonplace. They did everything right by our standards — they made their own group, clearly advertised what they wanted, but had a series of dongs join that didn’t read the description and tried to force their playstyle on a differently-advertised group.

We can relate to a lot of that, methinks.

Also, as Veydar pointed out, the verb ‘to neckbeard’ is pretty kittenin’ great. OP is alright in my book
