This thread is not for discussing issues with new or existing content. Please start a new thread if you wish to discuss such things. Also, keep things civil. Nastiness, snark, and outright hate can go somewhere else — keep this thread free of it.

It’s no secret that there is a lot of bad blood between fans of instanced PvE and the development team at this point in GW2’s lifetime.

But with Raids on the way, perhaps this would be a good time to turn over a new leaf, wipe the slate clean, and try to repair relations between the players and the devs.

Let’s take a step forward, away from the dark past of dungeons and into the bright future of raids, and try to build a sense of comradery between the two camps. After all, we all want the same thing: A healthy, cooperative atmosphere that leads to the development of excellent, exciting, challenging, and fun instanced PvE encounters.

I believe that it will take a lot of time and effort to get dev/player relations to a healthy place, but we need to start somewhere! I think it would be a great start to put a human face on the Raid developers.

So towards that end, any ArenaNet employee who has been working on (or testing, or even just having fun playing!) the upcoming raid content is encouraged to post here and introduce yourself. Help us get to know you, and let us see your passion!

Some topic ideas:

- What’s your name?
- What do you do at ArenaNet? (Descriptions of the work you do are preferred over just a job title!)
- What has been your involvement with Raids?
- What feature of Raids are you most excited about? (Obviously just the bits you’re authorized to talk about!)
- What’s a funny story about something that’s happened to you or your party while play-testing Raids? (Obviously no spoilers! )
- What was your favorite encounter from the existing dungeon/fotm content? Why?
- Anything else you feel like sharing!

I’d love to get to know you all, and work to get rid of this “us vs. them” mentality that’s solidified in this community over the years. We understand that there isn’t a whole lot that you guys are allowed to talk about, but some friendly banter can go a long way towards building a brighter future (for all of us!) :-)

We even have a QA employee shrugging their shoulder stating they’re trying… and what is our response? “thank you but please don’t get yourself fired” I mean holy hell, we’re worried she’s going to be fired for simply talking to us. What absurd stuff is that.

Hell, she flat out said that if she told us what was going on with the issue she’d lose her job. Just for saying “We meant to do it” or “It was a bug”.

ArenaNet folks who may be following along, please ask yourselves:

- Does that sound healthy to you?
- Would you, as a player, have much faith in seeing things improve when communication is still so obviously broken after years of this happening?

The list of dungeon bugs is long and they’re rarely fixed. Most of those issues have existed since launch. And you guys can’t even talk about the current state of existing content without fearing for your jobs.

Like Jerus, I hate being this pessimistic over the future of this game I love so much. But considering the above, it’s hard to have hope for Raids when we’ve seen such a systematic lack of concern for instanced PvE ongoing years.

And if these topic “aren’t relevant” to the future of instanced PvE in this game, please let me know — what would be?

If they want to get me hyped it’d start with addressing these policies. It’d start with simply answering that Lupi question. It’d start with communication.

I know there are a lot of devs who, like Lauren, really want to bring us into the loop and feed our passion for the game by keeping us informed about the basics. I sincerely hope that someday they are able to.

It’s so sad a dev pops in here to say hi in a friendly way and they are deluged with the usual litany of QQ tears and angry accusations and questions about bugs that are blatantly obviously low priorities. For once can a dev post here without the woe-is-me pity party agenda being pushed?

I apparently missed the woe-is-me posts. What are you referring to? Were some posts deleted?

Apparently I also happen to see a lot of people are forming an angry mob to attack a poor dev who just wants to open a communication. He’s probably passionate enough to try to appease the crowd but I doubt it he would have been still excited to talk about what he has been working on. If anything, I love to hear tidbits about the new content. I want to be hyped up, I want something to look forward to. I don’t want all this excitement to get buried in aggressive argument loop about some age-old contents that are obviously informed to be of low priorities. Stop, please! Do all of you seriously religiously play 26 paths of dungeons and 4 fractal dailies every day and keep doing so until after HoT releases? Think again. What do you really look forward to? Something new to play or someone (new) to blame because you don’t have anything else better to do.

Again, I want to see more red posts. I want to see more positive discussion that ends in a happy note. I want to see less accusation, less knee-jerk reactions and insults (similar to this one - Holy batman, it’s so immature that it’s painful to read!). Even if I don’t have any meaningful things to post, I want to take comfort in reading other posters’ opinions. Please, please, it’s my selfish request to ask you guys as a posting community in this sub-forum to make my wish happen.

Thanks Iris. I appreciate your views and understand them. I totally agree — jumping on / attacking / insulting devs is not the way respond. I know I let some anger and frustration out last night, but I was careful to refrain from insults and attacks. Rather, my goal was to provide feedback:

The lack of support and restrictive policies that prevent ArenaNet employees from, for example, even addressing changes that are missing from the patch notes is a significant problem. It fosters the “ArenaNet is out of touch with its players” and “ArenaNet doesn’t care about maintaining its content” perceptions. We hear them say “We are passionate about this game and want to provide a quality experience” while completely ignoring existing issues with content.

To me, the “obviously low-priority” bug(?) with Lupi’s auto attack isn’t even a major issue in and of itself — it just exemplifies this problem so well. I honestly find the fact that they are unable to clarify whether or not a change was intended as unacceptable. It’s basic support, and refusing it projects a very negative image of ArenaNet as a company — not to mention that it takes away from the hype of the new content that is coming.

What I see in this thread is not hostile attacks and insults, but rather a group of players who are passionate about this game saying “These are our concerns.” We’ve seen repeated problems in the past regarding content production, maintenance, and support, and we don’t want to see history repeat itself with Raids.

While I can see how you and Nike might reach a different conclusion, concerned feedback is very different from insults, attacks, and “QQ woe-is-me pity parties”, even when expressed with frustration. Reviewing the thread, I can’t find any posts that strike me as attacks or “pity-parties”. I see concerned players warning ArenaNet that we don’t have much patience left to put up with “more of the same”, and that their support philosophies need to change if they truly want Raids to succeed. I don’t see anything unreasonable about that — it’s relevant feedback that they should take into account as they plan the future of the game.

You don’t need to have an extra set. Just bank the ones you use normally, create a char so it takes the account snapshot, take the armor pieces back.

Assuming it’s sinister, or you have the mats around to change it during the BWE. It’s not perfect, but it’s something at least

It’s probably easy to add. It’s just that at some point you stop the development.

True, but it’s their choice whether to consider the omission of the meta condition gear stat from the default choice as a “bug that needs fixing” or a “nice to have feature request”, and if the change is as simple as it should be, they could still patch it in the meantime. If I were in their shoes, I’d want players to be able to test hard content in meta gear, since that’s what they’ll be using when it’s live.

But I’m sure there are other priorities right now, and this does have a work around (assuming you have an extra full set of ascended gear laying around :P). Good on them for sharing this ahead of time so we can prepare, rather than just surprising us come beta time.

We’re definitely serious about raids. It’s something that players have wanted (including myself) for a long time, and we’re hoping to deliver a truly special experience.

Glad to hear it. I hope they meet expectations — not just expectations of challenge, but of support and release frequency as well. Make them challenging, but keep ’em coming, too.

I’m here to stay. Not leaving anytime… soon™.

No worries, you’re certainly not at fault for any of this!

I presume the only reason they haven’t spoken publicly about it is because they aren’t sure whether they like it better this way or not and want to be able to change their mind about it down the road without hearing “Omg you broke a promise!” from the community. The change was for sure intended, but I have no clue whether it was seen as a bug fix, an exploit fix, an experiment, or what. Hopefully we’ll find out some day soon.

All I’m saying is that, for starters, they could just freakin’ say that. “The change was for sure intended”…you, as a specialist, may be privy to some information that the rest of us don’t have, but here’s what the rest of us know:

- A significant change in Lupi’s behavior came with a patch that drastically increased the difficulty of fighting him in small groups/solo.
- This change was not mentioned in the patch notes.
- A bug report was filed, simply asking ArenaNet to acknowledge the change, and clarify whether it was a intended change that missed the patch notes, or a bug that slipped in with some other backend changes.
- That simple question has still not been answered six months later.
- The only “official” response from any ArenaNet employees on the subject is from a QA lead who is clearly also upset with the lack of reply, and can only say “I wish I could tell you more, but I’d lose my job if I tried to keep you guys in the loop on this.”

And that’s it. That’s all we see. The really sad thing is, that’s more than we’ve seen for other similar problems in the past (e.g. Alphard’s bug — that never even got acknowledged).

I’ve heard the “afraid of making broken promises” line in their defense for years. It’s bull. We’re not even asking for any promises, just trying to get them to acknowledge the issue and clarify whether or not it was an intended change.

And they won’t.

For reference, I’ve been talking to a developer via PM about this for months. She promises to update me when/if they get the authorization to talk about it.

That is such a horsekitten approach to handling these things. For kitten’s sake, what do they hope to accomplish by letting issues go unacknowledged instead of just letting their players know that they actually care about their game?

It makes absolutely zero sense. Why put out the message “we don’t really even care about maintaining this content at all, to the point that we won’t even acknowledge the issue”?

We’ve spent a lot of time and poured a lot of love into this content, and simply cannot wait for players to get their hands on it.

I believe this, and that’s why I’m giving HoT a shot. As others have mentioned, though, it’s hard to have faith that the content won’t be left to rot shortly after release. All the developer passion in the world won’t matter if the higher-ups decide to axe the content.

Please tell your bosses to take instanced PvE seriously this time around. I’d like to be able to tell friends that this game is worth getting invested in again.

They’ll be hard at release, I’m sure. The real questions is: will they still be difficult after 3 years of nerfs’n’neglect?

Pretty soon the raid bosses will start bubbling the walls, teleporting into them and going invisible for several seconds and teleport all the way to Singapore and back every time you move when they’re casting their shadowstep/teleport animations.

Then they will never get fixed or addressed, ever.

And we’ll ask, “Hey did you guys know this started happening? It looks like a bug, maybe you could check on it?”

And they’ll never even bother answering. After all, they have to get HoT ready for China, yanno?

After all, what’s more important:

a) having a game that’s fun, fresh, maintained, and supported, or
b) having a game that’s able to be sold to a wider market?

1) Install X-Mouse Button Control
2) Move vendor window so confirmation “Ok” button aligns with the item you want to buy.
3) Remap scroll events to left click with XMBC
4) Scroll away.

Not a real fix, but it really, really does make it easier. And seeing as how Bulk Buy/Use All options have been requested for years, it’s the only solution we’re likely to see.

My DPS on my Engie is total kitten compared to my DPS on my Thief because I am mediocre on Engie.

To topic again, I showed that it is possible to do the dungeons on their level-cap and that is a fact. Btw I always joined “fun grps” and got kicked.

It always has been — that’s how we did them in the first place eons ago when the content was new :-P

If I were you, I’d stick with low-manning with friends. PUGS is Swedish for AIDS (fact), and this game is a lot more enjoyable when you don’t play the dingleberry lottery and avoid those obnoxious pieces of poo.

AFAIK, they haven’t said anything about not resetting fractal levels again with HoT. Since they’re revamping the progression system and because they’re ANet, progress resets are still on the table.

So I’d hold off on grinding your PR up until we hear more.

(Unless I missed something, but I don’t recall hearing anything “official” on the subject.)

More confirmation of the fractals’ fundamental flaws: no one wants to run low level fractals and you’re locked out of the higher ones through agony. They need to remove the agony mechanic and the fractal level tiers so a new person can say do level 50 and get level 50 rewards without being a burden to the team. Bosses also have way too much HP, so you can all know what to do but the problem with giving too much HP to bosses is it increases the chances of going wrong since the fight lasts longer. Then you have adds with ludicrously long knockdowns. For comparison a so-called thief “elite” basilisk venom only stuns for one second and has a very long cool down…and it doesn’t work on champions or legendaries, another problem in and of itself because it ensures the high HP two shotting cheapo remains mobile. There needs to be a trait for shadow refuge to shield against all incoming AoEs since they come after the shadow refuge. This would ensure a clean rez with fewer complications and may even justify it’s very long cool down.

Let’s see how tough fractals would be without gimmicky nonsense (like the Dredge switches or needing to lure a certain boss into an electro field), heavy HP sinks, artificial gating via agony, and crowd control immunities.

Not much of an LFG/pug story…If you’re trying to give feedback on fractal design, you might want to make a separate thread.

The last boss is one of my favorite encounters in the game. Like seriously, I’d run that path far, far more often if it were reliable. Unfortunately, when you finally manage to get a group together for it, it usually bugs out one way or another. The last 3-4 times I’ve attempted it it’s bugged, and I just don’t even bother trying anymore.

Shame.

Having the NPC die also seems to break it. Didn’t know about the champion/elite thing. If I ever get feel like giving it another shot I’ll keep an eye on that.

Maybe this is posted somewhere, but the first few pages of this forum didn’t show anything, nor did google, and I don’t see it on the main site either, but…

The “Create Guild” button is locked on my account. I’m only a member of 3 guilds, and I was going to start a bank guild. Should work, right?

Is it locked for the BWE or something?

If you think any of that is exclusive to that boss then you’re not playing the same game as us.

But it is! Name one other boss that is near a wall, rock, pole, fence, or has a large hitbox. Betcha can’t.

Crusher/hunter, the second boss of arah p3, lupi and the wraithlord. kitten that’s a whole path. Wait wait, that’s like, one dungeon path right? Arah p4, balthazar, lyssa, lupi(large hitbox, whatevs), dwayna, bloodstone, one boss wasn’t. Wait, that’s just arah right? Coe all start mobs. Alpha if you want, the golem if you want(not recommended, boons and stuff), the next alpha, bjarl for p1, the last alpha. That’s 2 boss on p2/3 that aren’t faster on a wall. AC? spider queen, kholer, last bosses. CM?? PLEASE CM SAVE ME??? barn boss, victoria, frost, thief dude in p2 who is leashed to the other 4 elites in the salon, the OP symbol guardian outside starts with a B, Tremaine, the optional boss, seamus, the other grenade boss, vallog. kitten, only 1 boss wasn’t on a wall there.

So to summarize your arguments:

- Miku is using a evasive skill that necros don’t have, and is aware that you can’t move through solid geometry. Exploits!
- You (nemesis) cba to verify his DPS, even though he spelled out how it’s calculated. Thus, those numbers can’t be right.
- Miku went into detail about things that were in his favor. Thus he’s deluding people intentionally by misrepresenting the conditions of the fight.
- He had might during the fight, thus being in a group wouldn’t matter. EA, banners, vuln don’t really affect DPS, anyway, right?
- WWA is the sole reason his DPS was 13k and not “3-6k”.

Did I miss anything?

I’m frankly amazed anyone listens to you.
