so what builds do peopel run in silverwastes? is zerk no longer good?

is there any build that will make my warrior take minimal damage from sivlerwaste mobs? i dont mind if it takes me longer to kill i just wanna not die in 3 hits…i want to be able to take hits and have my healing signet heal more than the damage i take.

otherwisse a build where i can heal and take little damage to the point where by the time i get 75% heatlh my healing skill will be ready again.

arlight. so if i just play rifle warrior i wont have to doge much? i dont mind dodging but it sucks that if u miss 1 dodge u can die.

Zerk is for players who know how to use active defenses (dodge, blocks, blinds, evades, etc) very well. If you aren’t comfortable dodging, don’t jump on the zerk train.

Try some of these armor stats:

More damage than suvivability:
- Knights
- Valkryes

Less damage, more survivability:
- Sentinals
- Soldiers

Better healing:
- Clerics
-Magi

Pure survivability:
- Nomads

See this page for more details about what these sets offer:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats

Don’t jump on the zerk bandwagon until you’re ready — It takes a lot of practice and personal skill development to be able to survive in zerk gear. If you’re having trouble surviving, give yourself some defensive stats.

PvP modes: possible balance issues?

So I was thinking about the whole “PvP game modes” thing last night, and had a good chuckle.

Can you imagine Capture the Flag in this game?

Meta: 5 mesmers with Portal, Mass Invis, veil, blink.

Chain portals to opponent’s flag, Pop mass invis when enemies are around and use MI/Veil/Blink to get past defenders to the flag. Pop portal under flag, grab it, follow portal chain back to base.

Done quickly, with a bit a communication and practice, the entire mode would be trivialized.

Can’t use skills while carrying the flag? Portals are already out.

Can’t portal while carrying the flag? Have the entire party portal to the flag with clones out, dash away in the confusion. Or shatter bomb them.

I wonder if that’s why they’re dragging their feet on new modes, some of them would be difficult to balance without neutering one class or another.

I still don’t see why this sort of information couldn’t be shared with the players, at least it’d let us know there’s activity on it…

It’s not so bad. As long as you had fun playing to get what you needed to craft it, I think that’s the more important part :-)

The nice thing about them having only slightly better stats is that no one just expects you to have one, like in dungeon groups, etc.

All making a legendary is for, is to say "look, I grind the game so much, I have no life and here’s what I have to show for it… some foot prints "

That’s pretty much it. People usually sugarcoat it, but remember that endgame is standing around LA/DR in your fancy skins. This is a game about vanity.

Curious, did you notice the stats on Twilight or Sunrise, or just craft them all at once for some reason? Or did you buy in on the TP?

dlonie.6547

These are all good changes, but I think a lot of us have been most looking forward to a new game mode. It was a lot of people’s #1 priority in the CDI that was run last year, and we’ve been waiting a lot time for it.

As Colin said, a new game mode is something the team is working towards. However, it’s not ready at this time. These other changes are ready, and we’d like to get them out to you on December 2. A new game mode is a serious undertaking that requires a lot of time and work.

I hope you guys will be able to share rough ETAs on these sorts of things in the future — because we’ve been hearing “When it’s ready™” for a while now, and are tired of getting our hopes up and dashed with each patch. It makes players bitter, and is bad for business, yanno?

Glad you’re at least allowed to say that you’re working on something, it’s a step in the right direction.

But, CJ did mention that new game modes are being developed. Not a lot of information, but at least it’s more than their policies typically allow.

I don’t want to get too deep into PvP specifics, but I agree, more details about what the new modes are and roughly when we might see them would be the next step towards a healthy customer/company relationship. Players have been waiting for a long time — something a little more concrete would make a big difference.

Credit where credit is due, this just happened:

That was poor wording in the press release, there is no “new game mode” in the traditional sense we’d think of (new map/ new rules) being released in this update, though our competitive team continues to work on new game mode options as we speak. As with all things, they’ll give details on this when it’s far enough along we’re able to talk about it.

The reference to “mode” is talking about how players will be organized in PvP games, details later this week.

While it’s a far cry from the roadmap that we’re looking for, acknowledging that other PvP game modes are in development is definite step in the right direction.

Keep opening up, guys! +1

Edit: This too: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/announcing-improvements-to-pvp-and-the-ladder-test-season/

They’re still just announcing stuff two weeks away, but good to hear PvP is getting some QoL changes.

The whole lack of direct communication now has me feeling like the direction of the game itself might be in limbo and that is worrisome. Isn’t it odd that all these new hires and ads for specific people (one would associate with expansion like content) have hit so far down the road, 2 years in? I think to be honest the silence is a way to keep us all distracted from the truth, LS and rehashed holiday content is all that is on the horizon for a very long time and if they do lay out the roadmap the fear is that many will simply walk away and stop supporting the game.
Think about it and tell me you don’t draw the same conclusions at this point. Why the silence, why the lack of a roadmap, why the lack of specific answers regarding things like dungeons, classes, traits, races?

This, unfortunately, is one of the more plausible explanations IMO, too :-(

Well, my full glass thief did spend a good chunk of time on the floor, but I had fun with it solo. Shortbow thief is pretty fun, poison fields are your friends. I think it would be more of a pain on a class without such a solid ranged weapon.

The last boss in the LS was the one that I had an issue with. It needs a serious bump up in difficulty. When a full zerk thief can facetank it (signet of malice + pistol whip, watch out for marks on the ground), it’s a bit too easy IMO ;-)

But then, eh. In two weeks, hardly anyone will ever fight it again, so it’s probably not worth re-tuning it.

It would be wonderful to hear something about these and other game areas, I agree.

But ArenaNet has a strict policy against mentioning anything in development, so unless that changes, we’ll never get so much as a “Yep! We’re working on them!” or a “Nah, they didn’t really pan out.”

It might seem silly, but remember, communication is very important to them.

Is it possible some of the lack of content is actually lack of rewards?

People say they want new dungeon, but they wont’ bother to run aetherblade path for more than a few times.

Just to speak on dungeons (as that’s my turf), this certainly is part of it. AetherPath flopped, and they’ve just left it there, twisting in the wind. We’ve given them feedback as to why it’s unpopular, yet instead of addressing the issues with it, they seem to have taken its failure as a justification to stop making more dungeons.

Just wanted to point out that discussions like these are wonderful and 100% on topic here They show the state of the industry, and provide concrete examples of how ArenaNet could improve communications with their players. Thanks for sharing!

So there is this CoE recipe, Alpha Conduit, that sells for about 1.8g on tp. Nothing spectacular. Today, some idiot posted 250 buy orders of 5.5g each. So, me and a guildie, each:

Poor guy took down all his buy orders 2 minutes after we dumped our tokens. Have no idea what he was smoking when he placed those orders but I liked it <3

It’s actually a bug with listing items. Afaik if you try to list something at the lowest sell offer and it gets sold during that time it will be posted as a buy offer at that same price.

I think they fixed that a few patches ago. I only remember because some poor guy sold a dusk or something for like 5s, not realizing they patched it xD

I used to argue with this guy on a daily basis, he is literally the person I despise the most on the internet. One day, I gave up and never went back to the “general sub forum”

ikr? 95% of the kitten he posts is just to argue semantics, or point out the obvious in a way that will derail the topic. At least most of the regulars seem to know to not take his bait.

We’re talking about a Die Hard ANet brown-noser here, all he does is try to poke holes in any complaints anyone ever has about what they are doing, he gets some sick satisfaction in it. That’s why I couldn’t help but point out his use of “everybody” after he pulled the semantics card earlier in the thread, sorry for that but I really couldn’t help but point it out. The guy is full of himself.

No worries, he knows how to push people’s buttons, and its clear that its reason he’s here. Honestly, when I see 2+ posts of his within 5 posts, I just stop reading. You know it’s just going to be bickering and nitpicking from that guy.

ANet knows what we’re asking. I take the silence to mean that they have no good answer for us. Lets be honest, we all know that to be true at this point. That thread was more or less a last chance to talk and say we’re wrong. It’s on them, do they take this opportunity or do they confirm our beliefs?

Yep. And we’ve gotten what does appear to be a few attempts at misdirecting the thread from Gaile, and when we stuck to the issue, the red posts stopped. It’s like we “toxic” folks care more about the health of the game than they do :-/

Am I the only one who misses Videogamer Mike ?

It was really frustrating on my necro. I didnt have the mobility or the sustain to get close to him each time he leaped. And i couldnt use life blast because its slow and it always bugged and vanished. I guess it was something to do with the bosses hitbox while it was moving.

Ugh, necro would be a pain there. I ended up blasting poison and cluster bombs on her most of the time, then 2 pistol whips to clear a tendril when they popped. It seemed like once a tendril is killed she’d move into the next phase, but it may have just been lucky timing.

I’m really liking my thief these days

I was honestly surprised I managed to make it through without wiping. I downed so many times to those bs rush ticks that i was on red penalty with less than 1k hp and no lifeforce for pretty much half the fight. Adds were perfect rally bots at least. Frantically dodging tendrils, mini teras and aoes waiting for my heal to come back for half the fight was a little bit entertaining i guess. xD

Heh, I’m not sure it’d be possible to wipe there, those NPCs are OP healers xD

You need to be more specific dlonie. Don’t say will we ever see the content we need to play updated or expanded. Because no one is going to know what you need to play.

That post was rather terse, I agree. I’ve just written out the long version (see the link I put above) so many times that I’m a bit tired of writing, as I’m sure anyone following the thread is tired of reading. The link I mentioned will point to a more detailed version of the post that is quite a bit more specific about content.

I’ll try to provide better references during future bouts of brevity

People keep talking about significant updates. I think the updates, at least recently, have been significant. They’re significant to me. The updates you want to play probably wouldn’t be.

So in your request, instead of bolding a line with no detail, add the detail in the line.

This is clearer in the longer, earlier post, too — if anyone is confused and missed it (I know you saw it, Vayne!).

In a nutshell, the goal of releasing content similar to an expansion through the living story doesn’t seem to be quite met in these last two years when considering similar games, including GW1. Are things delayed, or is this the pace and variety of new content that we can expect?

Then again, ever is a very long time, so maybe you want to also put it in terms of six months or a year. I mean suppose you will see that content in five years. Anet could say yes, and they’d be within their rights to.

You need to be very specific.

Thanks for the feedback, Vayne! You are correct, “ever” was a terribly inaccurate word. I assumed it wouldn’t be taken literally, which was an error on my part. To be clear, yes, an idea of what’s coming in the next year is what I had in mind.

Which doesn’t mean you’ll get an answer.

Oh, believe me I know.

To speak personally, it is relevant to my current game satisfaction. As long as players from my guild and dungeon crew keep disappearing because they think the game is a dead end, it will keep getting harder and harder to find a reason to stay myself.

I’m just looking for a straight answer to the question: Will we ever see the content we want to play updated or expanded? Are they not currently planning on working on these areas, or are they just delayed/postponed?

If they feel that I’m being unreasonable about this, I’d be glad to hear their perspective on things. It might help the contributors to this thread understand why it feels like the game is driving away its non-PvE fans.

Oh man, finished it a little while ago. You ain’t kidding. Avoid the marks and you’re good. Did it on a full zerk thief, healing signet + pistol whip…if not for the marks I could have AFK’d xD

I can remember a time when absolute silence lead to alot of positive anticipation (and still does for me) because of the possibility of discovery, learning ,etc..

That doesn’t seem to happen anymore … I know what the content is without even logging in because of Dulfy, forums, etc… Frankly, I think people don’t know what they want and think they want to know more when really, knowing less or nothing is a great way to actually experience new content.

People think they are missing out if they aren’t told things. The real things you need to know as players is what actually happens in the game and you do that by playing it once the new content is patched, not before.

In the case where Anet wants feedback, they will come to get it. For instance, there is CDI for that.

Obtena, I appreciate you sharing your viewpoint. I just wanted to reply and point out that this thread isn’t about a feeling that we’re “missing out” by not knowing what’s coming. I don’t expect anyone to reread the enormous backlog of this thread, so I’ll just point out this recent post where I summarized the intent of this thread.

We don’t want to know too many details, but just get a rough idea of what, if anything, is coming down the pipeline for some of the more infrequently updated portions of the game.

Is there a fix coming for condition damage?
Will hobosacks be a thing of the past?
Are you adding new skills for PVE to offset some of the missing skills from previous PVE balance issues?
Will you be adding the rewards systems you are using in the two newest locations to the rest of Tyria?
Will you be adjusting DR or removing it so that people aren’t getting piles of skulls for their troubles?
Will there be any new traits?
Will skins from the past LS 1 episodes be available from the Laurel Vendor? (Like the Anti-toxin backpack)
Will you finally fix CC in PVE so it works against bosses?
Will you add post max level advancement like Star Trek Online’s Specializations or Rift’s Planar attunements? Or at the very least a spell changing system like Diablo III’s runes?
Is farming, fishing, housing or basic mounts in the future?

Seriously!?!?

Did you read any of this thread before dumping this here? Please don’t try to hijack this thread. If your other threads were ignored, you’re not going to get an answer here.

This is an online game. No matter what they do, people will kitten, moan and complain ;-) They need to stop being so afraid of that, and just communicate what their goals are. If people complain, at least they’re getting feedback before they release content that flops.

Hey Gaile, is there any other discussion that you’d find helpful on this topic? I’d like to make sure that our concerns on this issue are understood and as clear as they can be.

Please understand that I’m not demanding or expecting anything, but out of curiosity, will our concerns with the silence policy be communicated to those who have control over the decision? Can you keep us in the loop on your team’s handling of this concern? Again, no expectations, but it would go a long way for us to know whether our efforts here are wasted or not.

Edited to add: I feel like I’m harassing you on this, but I (and I’m sure, most other posters here) really want to work with you and your team to see if we can fix some of these problems facing us. We both want the same thing: A better GW2 with a healthy ANet/player relationship, and a fan base that is absolutely pumped about playing the game

A Message to ArenaNet

I love how people keep bringing up the Glass Door Reviews as some sort of negative. 72% of the employees would recommend Anet to a friend and 79% approve of the CEO. The reviews are varied. Some say the work is casual and some say that the company has an understanding of personal life vs work.

Yes, programmers do work hard, but there’s nothing to really imply 80 hours a week of labor or anything even close in those statements.

Those statistics come from anyone associated with the company — from devs to designers to artists to QC testers, and are a very small sample size. They also represent years worth of reviews — and recent reviews suggest that working conditions have dropped quickly in the last year. I don’t really put a lot of stock in those stats.

Reading the reviews to get a feel of the working conditions, IMO, is the way to use glassdoor. I work as a software developer myself, and have used glassdoor to research many jobs, and the contents of a review tell you far more than the accumulated “I approve/disapprove” statistics.

Now, ArenaNet’s reviews and working conditions seem about par for the course when it comes to game studios — the industry is not known for taking care of its talent. The reviews don’t mention 80 hours/week, but they mention endless crunches, continual “crisis” mode, and scattered management directives. I’ve worked on projects like this, and believe me, it is a nightmare.

I believe the point of this post was to say “THANK YOU, YOU’RE APPRECIATED” to the people who are being put through the grind, because our beef is not with them, but they don’t hear a lot of positivity in return for their excellent work.

Holy crap. It really looks like the devs are listening here. I really don’t want to waste this chance.

Hate to break it to ya, but this thread is a 2 month old necro :-(
