I’ve given up on this game again, I wonder for how long this time?

That “Refocus & clarify” thread took everything I had left. I love GW2, but I’m bored with it, and looking at the past, it’s easy to see the future. This game will never be what we want it to be — ArenaNet just isn’t interested in putting in the effort to make this game even come close to meeting its potential. Casual zerging, achievement farm, and grind are all there is to expect.

I share the same concern at this point — even if they released some decent “expansion-type” content…would anyone even bother coming back? ArenaNet’s attitude has driven a lot of players away with negative feelings towards the franchise. It’s a godkitten shame.

I’m playing DA:I these days. When/if I finish, I’ll probably do another DA:O playthrough. I’m thinking of giving ESO another shot. Zenimax has been working on it like crazy since launch, I think they might have smoothed out some of the rough edges. Plus, they actually give two kittens about their playerbase!

Thanks for the note, mahri. Guild Wars is a great game — I love it, as I can see you do!

The actual official release date was April 28th (as it was for Guild Wars: Factions) and it’s a day that we all keep in our hearts, as it was the start of something BIG for all of us at ArenaNet. (I can see from the date you mention that you were in the early start, so thank you for being an early believer in our company. <3 )

Does ANET have anything special planned for the 10th anniversary? or should I goto guildwars.com and keep hitting F5? :P

We’ll find out on April 14th (28-(2*7)).

- I got into an AC run with two guardians a thief and a warrior as I was on elementalist.

TA Marona – 3 Guardians and 0 Reflect Shield.
Happened few more times with different groups.

You cant reflect or block malrona anymore.

Maybe he wanted Light Field for the Area Retaliation.

Or cleansing bolts. Don’t wanna keep that Malrona poison debuff, yanno, I hear it’s OP!

Kickstarter to provide funds for new content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: dlonie.6547

dlonie.6547

As others have noted, they have the money.

From what Regina said after the “no new dungeons” announcement, it sounds like they’re short on people. And from what we can see on glassdoor, ArenaNet likes to do waves of hiring/firing of temps, creates very stressful working conditions for their development teams, and has little to no consistent direction across teams — hence the HR problems.

A kickstarter wouldn’t solve any of those problems, unfortunately.

People have been asking for more substantial content for the last two years — something, anything in line with what other MMOs offer. They won’t come out and admit it, but their actions make it clear: GW2 is what it is. They’re gonna milk the casual playerbase for all it’s worth, and our concerns / pleas for new content are falling on not deaf, but disinterested ears.

Zergs, achievement farms, and small, unsatisfying releases are the future (and history) of the game.

Ok, this is more addressed to Gaile or other Dev reading, but maybe it is time to re-emphasize this :

Mike O brien.4613

We want to talk design philosophy with you and hear how you want to see the game evolve.

From the “Communicating with you” thread.

This debate about “meta”, gear stat, and stacking strategy comes every second day on the forum and only ends up in empty discussions (I think) because everyone think that the devs wanted the game to be like that or not.
In the end it would be cool to have one of the devs (I think few years ago, Izzy wrote the blogpost about stats) clearly explaining how they see the game in term of itemization, encounter strat and if they are happy with that or not and eventually give an idea of how they would like it to evolve.
The game as it is now is a result of a long process of design (with several iterations) and I’m sure that there is a philosophy under the choices made. It would be nice to share them with us now.
Maybe some players will be disappointed that there will be an evolution of the gearing stats towards something they don’t want (or the contrary) but right now this is only players arguing over and over about the same topic without any real ending. If there would be a nice answer stating the game design philosophy then when such a topic arises this could be an answer to refer to.

I doubt any devs would still be reading page 11 of this drivel ;-) But agreed, there are a lot of things that could be cleared up if they’d just talk with us!

Dunno what OP was looking for, but for those of us who are looking for something besides openworld farming/zerging (Say, dungeons, PvP*, WvW, etc), there’s not a whole lot of new stuff to do.

Questions on the Guild Wars 2 Forum Specialists Program

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

dlonie.6547

I find it odd that so many people are concerned about how much these volunteers will be able to tell us about Anet’s future plans, my understanding is that their main task will be to feedback to Anet on what we want – not tell us what Anet is doing.

When I read the description the impression I got was that they would be reading the forum regularly, especially their designated area, and collecting useful feedback into one post or email every week or month or whatever so there’s less risk of Anet staff missing good ideas.

It specifically says they cannot share anything they hear about upcoming changes and content, but only says they cannot make promises about what’s been passed on.

The issue is also: What can the devs actually tell us once a FS forwards a thread? If the goal of this program is to improve communication, how can that happen if ArenaNet employees (not just FSs) are forbidden to mention any future plans?

1. Change into zerker gear.
2. Ping zerker gear to placate your party’s concerns.
3. Change back into your original gear.

Enjoy!

Or….

…wait for it….

Make your own group!

Seriously, why be a kitten and join a group where you know you don’t meet the party requirements, when you can just make your own?

I can think of two reasons:

1) Ignorance of how the LFG tool works (i.e. you don’t know that it’s possible to make your own group).

-or-

2) You want to be carried by more skilled players.

If I’m missing a reason, feel free to fill me in.

Questions on the Guild Wars 2 Forum Specialists Program

dlonie.6547

So I’ve mentioned a few times that I think this program won’t be very successful unless the devs are allowed to share details about the future of the game, since the majority of common issues on this forum pertain to future releases. Eg:

  • Will we see new dungeons?
  • Will there be new professions?
  • Is a new race coming?
  • Will [feature X] be implemented?
    etc etc

These are questions that the devs are forbidden to answer. So I’d like to ask:

How does the Forum Communication Team see this program working out?

What sorts of player-developer interactions do you see happening as a result of this? What types of posts do you see benefiting from the addition of FS? In what ways will the program improve communication?

Maybe I’m missing something?

PSA:

No one take this personal, I’ve just seen these mixed enough times it’s worth pointing out:

zerk: Short for Berserker’s gear stats (Power > Precision = Ferocity).

zerg: A clusterkitten of 100 players mindlessly spamming abilities and autoloot.

When I hear “zerg meta”, I think of the problems with open world boss events. The “zerk meta” is the dominance of Berserker’s gear in PvE.

I think this has been causing some confusion.

I agree, it’d be nice to have an option to deposit gold in the personal bank for savings purposes. The wallet is a huge improvement over the old design (well, it would be if new currencies went into it ;-) ), but losing the ability to deposit gold was a regression, IMO.

Just wanted to post to warn: be real careful using a personal guild bank. If you accidentally click “leave guild” instead of “represent” (sometimes I’m in a hurry and have come close), you’ll lose everything in the bank.

Luckily, I have some friends who’ve stopped playing that I keep as members so I can recover the guild if I accidentally leave it…

“soloing a dungeon in soldiers takes more skill“ – Are you serious ?
Have you ever soloed a dungeon, have you ever compared berserker to soldiers !? I don’t know what you see as skilled but being able to facetank more hits isn’t skill for me.

Honestly, this one is a candidate for the statement of the year!

Do it and tell me if it is even possible to solo a dungeon in soldier’s.

You can solo in pretty much any gear as long as the bosses don’t have too high regeneration or you don’t fail your evades.

Others have already answered you, I have “discussed” this in several posts. Not really sure what there is left to say.

I have never seen a dungeon solo run in tanky gear and would love to see it – I don’t buy that those doing it have no options to make videos of it. If you know any videos give me the link.

Those who manage to solo a dungeon in none zerker’s gear have more skills in my opinion – I have pointed out why, others have pointed out why. So, again, give me a link so I can be proven wrong.

Not a whole dungeon but shows very well how tankier gear trivialises the content.

http://youtu.be/5-zKXILTkQo

Alright, but I still mean a whole dungeon, not just one part of it =) Thanks though.

Is like this video, just takes longer.
Do you think that dodging/evading takes less skill than simply dpsing ?
So giving up passive defense to do more dmg is less skilled ?
Also, do you think soloing in rabids (f.e.) takes also more skill than in berserker ?

Allow me a question; did you ever solo a dungeon?

I love how people just think that zerkers just autoattack in their solos. Get deeper in the materia and then we can continue discussing.

Have you ever soloed a dungeon or soloed a dungeon in soldiers?

Just for funsies, I’ll share.

I carry PVT on my guard as a backup set, and used to wear it when I first started soloing, mostly Arah p2, but also TA forward.

Now, I can’t get past Lupi on my own regardless of gear, but Belka and Abom were not at all challenging in soldier’s gear (note, I didn’t glitch Belka in those days, either).

Abomination was actually pretty funny. The first time I soloed him (in PVT), I farmed maybe 20-30 rifles before starting, and actually ran out and had to start pulling inquest mid-solo to finish him. It took about 35 minutes.

35. Minutes.

For one boss.

It wasn’t any harder, I was actually playing sloppy as hell and getting hit a lot. I could eat a couple of attacks, get back up, and continue. Most of my failures were from pulling him too far and resetting.

Now, I always use zerker gear. Why? Because abom takes about 8-10 minutes on a sloppy run.

PVT isn’t harder, it’s just slower. My opinion — YMMV.

The argument about running out of defenses before the enemy dies works for mobs, but most (Arah) bosses require you to go through several rotations, even at max DPS. Gear won’t affect cooldowns, so you’ll run out of defenses at some point either way. The difference is that PVT is (a) slower and (b) more forgiving if you play sloppy.

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but the time I’ve spent trying to squeeze blood out of stone (ie. get ArenaNet to talk to us) has earned me quite a few infractions :-(

That, and I get the feeling I’m “too much of a pest” for them to consider me :-P

Plus, some other reasons.

And, even more reasons.

I might consider applying if there are some actual changes made to how the dev teams are allowed to communicate with us, but it wouldn’t be worth the effort/hassle otherwise. Oh, and if my infractions wouldn’t disqualify me :-)

I echo your issues as well, being “part of the problem” instead of part of the solution. But, who knows, maybe this program is step toward improved communication? I’m optimistic about it.

Believe it or not, I’m trying to be optimistic as well. If there are some policy changes so that two-way communication becomes a possibility, I think it would be a great program.

As to “white knights,” they can be white, brown, purple, or fuchsia polka dot. They can be male or female, any age above 18, and from any part of the country. A qualifier is not “Do they post only good stuff about the game?” but more “Do they express themselves clearly and fairly?”

Speaking generally, is vanity a qualifier? I think that’s what most people are trying to ask (pic related)

On a serious note, someone mentioned a similar program in another game where the forumers voted on who would take the role. That might put a lot of minds at ease here — perhaps ArenaNet could filter the applications to a short list of candidates that meet your criteria, and then the final decision gets put up to a player vote?

That way, ArenaNet is happy because they’ve filtered out those of us who are “bad apples”, and the community is happy because we can make sure the poster we chose will fairly represent the majority.

Starting with lower level dungeons is good advice. Just until you get the hang of them, because there is no learning curve between open world PvE and dungeons — it’s quite a large step-up in difficulty.

If you decide to pug it, be sure to say you’re new to dungeons and looking for guides.

Might also want to mention whether you’re on a NA or EU server — odds are good that some of the forum folks would happily take you along and show you the ropes. IvanTheGrey used to do NA Arah teaching runs every weekend, he or someone else would probably be willing to set something up again.

We’re continuing to experiment with improving the way cutscenes work. I won’t go into details, since I don’t want to say “We’re trying out X” or I’ll get asked after every update “What happened to X?”

Awesome to hear that you’re working on addressing it! thumbs up

Up to you, but wanna try something like the following?

“We’re looking into some solutions like X, but we may or may not keep them and have no idea when they’d start being implemented.” Or better yet, “but we won’t be seeing them live until Season 3.”

Stick the disclaimer right next to it there, and The Good People of the Forums will quote your post immediately if anyone starts to grumble about it ;-) And we’ll even have a specific answer for the next person who comes along with this question! Plus, we could even give some feedback about what we like, or if there are some adjustments we think would benefit the new approach. I’m more tired of the skip-glitch-stack meta rather than the zerker meta. Doesn’t matter what gear everyone runs, they all skip past all the trash mobs and seek out bosses only. If anet doesn’t fix the zerk meta they can fix this meta.

  • Make trash mobs keep aggro unless the dungeon mechanic specifically requires you to skip them
  • Increase their loot drop rate to make them valuable to kill rather than skip.
  • Add mechanics to bosses which penalize stacking (like a small powerful quick firing PBAOE that instagibs if it hits more than 3 people)

I’m in agreement with you there. Dungeon runs are so cheesy the way they are now.
But I also think the Zerk Meta needs to be addressed. I’m not saying it should be destroyed — Zerk will always have a place. Unfortunately, no matter how much you all yell and scream that we can play “how we want”, it is really hard to do some times with the current “Go Zerk or GTFO” mentality.

But with damage being the only thing rewarded and most encounters being so bloody easy that even those players that are multi-tasking other things outside of the game can get by without blinking — I don’t see it changing. Its a sad thing.

1. Make your own groups trumps “go zerk or gtfo.” So your point is countered.

2. Support is more powerful than DPS. so your other point is countered.

Thanks for offering an opinion though.

Thank you for being so delightfully asinine. I’m sure it was warranted, right?

You can “counter” what I say all you like but it makes my opinions no less valid for it. The Zerker Meta isn’t a perfect system. Yes, there will always be a meta and berserker is just the one that fits in the game at present. But why does the idea of opening discussion on improvements in that system be such a horrible thing? Why do you and so many others react so vehemently to the very thought? There could possibly be a solution out there that doesn’t send those of you that have put time and effort into ascended zerk gear into a panicked frenzy. It is POSSIBLE. Probable? No. But still possible.

Because you say nonsense like “Go Zerk or GTFO”, when there’s an “Advertise Your Party…” button right there.

“Go Zerk or GTFO” was in reference to what I’ve seen in LFG and chat channels on multiple occasions. But if it makes you all feel justified in trying to knock me down, please proceed.

It’s not about trying to knock you down, no need to take it personally. A lot of people seem to think that because some groups only want zerkers, they have to use it, which was the view that your earlier post was expressing. It’s simply nonsense, no one is forcing you into those groups.

Start your own LFG with “All welcome” and you’ll be amazed at the results.

Thanks for sharing that Jeffrey, it helps a lot to hear the actual reasons behind the way things are as opposed to being left in the dark, having to guess ;-)

As for the issue at hand, would it be possible to simply allow the player to break from the cutscene while the NPCs, gadgets, and props continue to do their thing?

Something similar to how you see the “live” world during a Vista viewing — the world keeps on moving even though some people are viewing a cinematic.

I’d love to hear what the team is thinking about this problem. Sounds like some easy, low-hanging fruit for showing off the new focus on communication…

I’m surprised they didn’t fix that yet.

It’s too far down in the code, they don’t scroll down that much.

lol, don’t worry about it Chocolate. Reading the rest of uberkingkong’s post, his only goal seems to be to call people names and pick a fight. Not worth trying to find reasonable opinions from people like that.

SEp3. 2 guards, 1 thief, 2 engis (one was me).
I asked melee the carrier. The answer: “No, we don’t have enough reflects”. Oh, it was a exp and zerker group.

Should have told them that you didn’t need reflects — that party comp would have no trouble permablinding those dredge.
