Superior Sigil of Paralyzation is bugged???
No, but most people here seem to believe so.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Sigil_of_Paralyzation
It says right there in the description that it gives CC-immune bosses defiance stacks. Plain as day, working as intended.
Fine, I’ll just make a kitten tool that one shots all mobs in an instance and triggers all cutscenes so I clear the dungeon in 2 seconds. I win.
3rd party programs aren’t allowed.
Hey man, don’t be imposing unnecessary rules on me. It’s limiting creativity and interesting solutions.
Sarcasm aside, can you give a more substantive counter argument? I’m curious what folks think on this, and what their reasoning is.
Going from warrior to ele is going to be a rude awakening in terms of survivability ;-) If you’re up for more of a challenge, go for ele. It takes a lot of work to play ele well.
Going from warr to guard would be a smoother transition, and also offers a ton of party support. You’ll bring reflects, condition clears, stability, aegis, and blinds to the party — a good guard is always a valuable party member.
Another way to look at it: If you like dealing DPS, go ele. If you like saving your party from certain death, go guard
Fine, I’ll just make a kitten tool that one shots all mobs in an instance and triggers all cutscenes so I clear the dungeon in 2 seconds. I win.
Who suggested anything remotely similar to this? :-?
I think spokittenaking the best argument so far. As long as all objectives are completed, allowing JPs does add some interesting new strategies to be used.
Edit: Leaving that kitty there, because this has to be my favorite accidental filter ever. Orig text is: “spoj // is // making”
The downsides I can think of would be more record resets as ANet puts up invis walls. It would also raise the bar for submissions as speedclear groups will need to be able to master the JPs as well, but I personally wouldn’t consider that a drawback.
Obviously some people don’t agree — what are your reasons if you don’t like this idea?
Also, can someone link a video for the orb trick? I’m curious now and my googlekittenis failing me….
I thought it was heading more towards allowing minor jumping puzzles (but still do all objectives) and keeping consumables disallowed.
How would you feel about leaving JPs (even minor door hops) out of restricted runs, but making unrestricted runs more competitive as proposed earlier?
I’m not sure door hops belong in restricted runs — if a door is supposed to be opened by an event / boss kill, bypassing it before it opens is unintended and thus shouldn’t be allowed.
But if unrestricted runs were made more competitive, we could see these tactics put to use.
Following Fractal related things will be announced at PAX South (among other things):
- fractal leaderboard
- salvageable / mystic forgeable (to amulets and accessories) rings
- selectable weapon & armour chests
- fractal levels up to 60
- to make competition fair, everyone’s progress will be reset to 1.Now guess which of these five things will most likely happen and which will not.
raises hand
So seems like some sort of a meeting to discuss rules
I figured this would happen. Weird how like 3 days ago I said, “I’ll bet there will be a meeting where ‘passionate’ rT members try to dupe the community into scrapping the restricted ruleset and totally destroy the SC community.”
I can already see it now. The destruction of the restricted rule set. Executioners Axes, harpy feathers, tonics, Hylek pots, watchwork portals. Have fun guys.
Hmm, I thought the discussion was trending towards keeping both rule sets, but making unrestricted runs more competitive by fixing the start time rules. I don’t think there’s any reason to completely do away with the restricted rules.
I just paid real money for gems for the first time in over a year.
I feel bad about it :-( but 270g for a server transfer ain’t worth it.
Interesting how every server is always at “Very High” population (and thus requiring the highest transfer cost), despite the lack of players.
Either ArenaNet is using some dirty tricks to boost revenue, or they sold off a lot of their servers….
Especially considering what a dolt Sten was, Iron Bull is surprisingly charismatic
Ah, gotcha. I suppose there’s no real advantage from the primer, but I guess that would make this unrestricted as it’s gem-store only? (If the distinction even still exists…)
Always love watching these p4 clears. I liked the scorpion wire tricks at Grenth — seems like a significant time saver.
Very cool! Nice work!
Quick questions, IB5’ing the shard — just for kittens and grins, or does it actually do something? Also, what consumable buff (blue…apple? with an up arrow) did the thief and mesmer have on their bars?
That is horrible Jerem. Hopefully you guys can get some peace soon.
In other news, I’ve been soloing AC and giving it away to leveling guildies a lot recently. In my pre-reset solo today, I got Adelbern down to 5% and went behind a pillar to hold him while I brought people in. Done this a few times, always worked before.
This time, the freakin’ NPCs kill him before I could get everyone into the instance.
So second solo, I figure, kitten it, I’ll get these guys killed first.
I run in, smack Adelbern and go hide behind a pillar while the NPCs rush in.
Eir? Dead immediately.
Rytlock….well…Rytlock is, apparently, in full Nomads with healing signet and dragon rolls. Refuses to die. I take a screenie when Adelbern is at about 90%.
At 80%, I DC -_- QQ
Rytlock never took a bit of damage. #1 tank NA.

Essentially sounds like you’re asking them to use the “news and announcements” thread.
Basically asking them to post big ticket topics in a way that we can reference if we’re ever curious to see if there have been any changes.
You know, like “what happened to precursor crafting?” well they answered it in an obscure area and left it at that, would be nice if they posted it in an area that was easier to see and reference… isnt’ that the “News and Announcements” area? I mean they could do a massive thread sticked at the top of general but yeah…
Close, but smaller issues (like Astral’s example of changing races) are too minor to warrant a thread in News and Announcements, IMO. This would be more of an FAQ that indexes responses to questions, even the more trivial ones. Perhaps the sticky could reside in N&A, but I feel that threads in the News and Announcements subforum should be reserved for major announcements and changes to the game.
In my vision, the sticky would have categories similar to the existing subforums (Race, Profession, Dungeons, BLTC, General, etc) or perhaps each subforum could have its own FAQ sticky. We did something similar in the Dungeon subforum, and it was a major help to be able to answer question X for the 4 zillionth time by referring them to a section of the FAQ. That one didn’t have links to red posts (mainly because we didn’t see any official answers for a long, long time), but the idea is similar.
FYI: I’ve edited the thread title to prevent future knee-jerk backseat moderation attempts.
Apologies for any confusion.
Wait, did you start a thread on the same topic of a thread that got locked to discuss why it got locked? So you are asking for a thread with Dev responses to be stickied to make searching for things easier? Which is what the locked thread was about, and closed because we already have that. I am so confused….
Do not post about locked, deleted, or otherwise moderated threads or posts. Moderation happens for a reason. A staff member or moderator may lock a thread before posting in order to promptly curtail continued comments. If you have yet to see a comment by a staff member on a locked thread, please wait for the comment to appear and do not post a new thread on the subject. If you have questions regarding forum moderation, send an email to forums@arena.net.
See Reanne’s post — they get it.
This is about coming up with a solution to the problem that the other thread was trying to solve. If you would have read past the first sentence (or even finished reading the first sentence…), I believe that would have been made clear. At no point do I dispute whether or not that thread should have been locked, try to contest the decision, or attempt to duplicate the reason it was locked. The content of my OP is quite different from the locked thread, I suggest you compare them directly before making assumptions.
Information is hard to find on these forums. I’m merely suggesting a solution to that problem — the only reason I reference the locked thread is because of Mark’s claim that the Dev Tracker is a suitable means of finding answered questions — my point is that it is not, and I suggest a solution that would require very little effort from ArenaNet, uses existing forum functionality, and would be an immense help for forum readers.
Thanks for understanding :-)
(edited by dlonie.6547)
Seems that way, doesn’t // it? (// to ward off misguided felines)
Trouble with your post is that it will be buried within a day also
The solution of “use the dev tracker” works for questions that were answered yesterday, but given the rate at which ArenaNet develops content and implements bugfixes, we often have to answer the same questions for months on end.
All we’re looking for is an easy way to find answers for folks.
Sounds like you found some OMG ZERK IS BEST ALLLLWAAAAY tryhards. You did the right thing, and were geared properly for your role.
Hope you find a group that knows their kitten next time. I mean, they did say “zerk”, not “meta”, but crap like this is why I never join exp/zerk/meta/speed-only PUGs
I think the biggest issue folks have with jumping puzzles are when they are used to bypass bosses completely (Arah p3/p4). Things like jumping over doors with a mesmer to portal your team to the next event faster aren’t as problematic (my two cents, anyway), since all of the content is still being completed — it just saves some running time.
dreams wouldn’t it be great if ArenaNet just made bosses required for dungeon completion?
Crazy, I know
This thread is for discussion on this locked thread, without repeating the problem that got it locked:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Buried-Anet-responses-less-than-2-weeks-old/first
The trouble with the dev tracker is that we still must sift through pages of posts to try to find an older reply. If it was answered more than a month ago (see today’s thread asking about the GvG CDI), the dev tracker is not a useful way to find an answer.
I’ve proposed a solution in the past (see link below), and would love to hear some pros / cons on it from the ArenaNet side of things. From what I can see, it would be a great way to index answered questions, while only adding a single sticky:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestion-Sticky-for-FAQ-type-topics/first
Once a redpost answers a question, it gets added to the list. I suggest adding other common topics that crop up frequently, but that’s less important. Having a central, easily searchable (which the dev tracker is not) location for answered questions would be a godsend for those of us who do try to answer the questions of others.
Currently, we have to either:
1) Try to remember which dev answered a question and search through their posts for the thread.
2) Search through potentially dozens of pages in the dev tracker
in order to find the answer.
With this sticky, we could just open it, hit ctrl+f, and type (e.g.) GvG and BOOM — we’d locate the answered question in seconds. The people reasking the questions might also be able to find answers without having to rely on someone hopefully remember that the question was asked, and how to find the answer.
I’d love to hear why this would or wouldn’t work. I’ve brought this up repeatedly and it gets ignored, despite being a low-effort solution to a very real problem in this forum.
Tells you how much they care about player feedback. (As does the absolute rarity of a substantial red post on important topics).
It’s not nearly as important as their metrics (which I’m sure show the game as healthier than ever, thanks to the new login rewards!).
That’s what they said, but the amount of digression was pretty low IMO. I hope they redo it, GW2 needs more challenging content and aborting the CDI prematurely was a mistake IMO. Most of the “off topic” discussion I remember was from two ANet employees asking multiple questions at once, which created a lot of simultaneous conversations (and the ensuing confusion).
I think a new format will help, where different topics can be discussed in separate threads, and really hope they revisit the raiding discussion.
Out of curiosity, what was the difference in the timing rules? The link to the unrestricted ruleset on gw2scr is broken.
You have to be holding forward to dodge through a target, and since there are generally falling crystals that might require two quick, successive dodges or strafing to avoid both a crystal and then the effigy AoE, this maneuver wouldn’t always be helpful. Dodging in place, however, would always give you the desired result no matter what’s occurring on screen. Plus turning still takes time, even if you have an about-face hotkeyed.
I agree it would make it easier, but I don’t think that’s a good reason to modify the (already overpowered) dodge functionality to be even more OP. Part of playing the game is being aware of things like where the crystals are falling and what’s going on around you. As for the time loss, again, I think that’s just part of the fight.
Managing defiant stacks and interrupting the big PBAoE attacks is the alternative that we have, and will let you avoid having to dodge/about-face :-)
I think the division of restricted vs. unrestricted runs was one of the best solutions to these sorts of issues.
Unrestricted runs show us what is possible when the rules are thrown out the window and folks go for broke running as fast as they can.
Restricted runs show what is possible using “as-intended” mechanics.
It’s a nice solution to the disputes about these sorts of things. Obviously, we aren’t supposed to interrupt Lupicus, and it’s a bug in the sigil logic that enables this — so, restricted runs shouldn’t allow it. But those who want to use it may still do so in an unrestricted run.
Of course, reflect tricks still trump all.
Just posting to point out that it’s not necessarily cryhards that want the restricted ruleset and records around. I personally find it quite interesting to see clever strategies and tactics used to complete a run quickly without using questionable methods.
When I’m doing CoF p1 in particular I find myself wishing I had this option so I don’t have to re-engage the effigy boss after his AoE attacks. It’s a slight loss of DPS to have to walk back into melee range after every evade.
Dodge through him and turn around. I think that gives more or less the same result.
Soon™.
In seriousness, Chris posted something a while back saying that they were going to set up a new forum-like system where they could more effectively control the conversation without affecting people’s abilities to post on the regular forums. It’d be great to hear an update though!
Edit: Here is the post.
GerdDerm, I’d love it if we had an FAQ sticky…
(edited by dlonie.6547)
I think part of playing the game is learning to be aware of the direction you’re dodging in, and the consequences of doing so, no?
If it’s abandoned, the least they could do is let us know about it. I don’t think that is too much to ask.
We really don’t have high standards these days. We don’t expect ArenaNet to follow through on what they say they’ll deliver, we’d just like to know when to give up hoping for those things.
They’re all back. Alllllll. The ol’ kick-steal-sell grief is hardly worth a slap on the wrist, it seems.
btw I dig your sig.
If as a new player, i cant enjoy stress free pve in this game, then i will move my money and time elsewhere. Im not yet invested in this game…There is so many games out there, that i dont have to stick to the one with bad game model.
Being 100% serious, if you aren’t invested in this game, leave now.
It doesn’t get better. ArenaNet treats its playerbase like crap, refuses to engage us, doesn’t fix long standing bugs, makes promises they don’t keep, etc etc.
Seriously. It’s all downhill from here. Get out before you have a reason to stay.
inb4 we get a red post on this thread, letting us know that they’ve added [Suggestion] to the title.
Why is a list of archived subforums such a terrible thing? The game has aged and undergone some revamps — it makes sense that there would be a number of locked forums from past episodes, etc.
I don’t really believe that trashing old posts or making them difficult to find purely for the sake of aesthetics is a good move. Might want to rethink you folks’ priorities on this one.
Wow, from the looks of it, the ghost slaying potions/sigils/etc are really only useful in story mode O.o
A reply to this issue would be nice, but I think we all know what really happened.
Also keep in mind being on wall has nothing to do with it. You can trigger rapid fires on the wall aswell. And you can do no rapidfire offwall solos aswell.
Trigger rapid fire? I did not know this was something that a player could consciously do. I followed Dnt brazil’s guide to lupi and dont remember him mentioning something like that unless i just totally missed it. Any pointers on how this is accomplished.
Also on another note, his 1 person life drain, if you are in a party situation i know its not a big deal but is there a way to tell who it is aimed at? Always waste 1 dodge on it.
He seems to stick with the same person throughout phase 3 for that attack, from what I’ve seen. I usually just assume someone else has it, and tank the first hit if I’m wrong.
(Edit: But I’m usually on a thief, so (a) usually he is focusing someone else, since squishy classes seem to not take his aggro as easily, and (b) healing is part of my phase 3 rotation, so a little damage isn’t a big deal. Also, I’ve heard that he targets whoever is farthest away with the single-target lifesteal, and also seems to switch to anyone who goes into down state.)
He’ll face the player he’s targeting with it, but when everyone is stacked against the wall, well…yeah.
(edited by dlonie.6547)
Such heartwarming toxicity here <3
I’m so glad they didn’t delete our trashcan
lol @ODB accusing oxtred of raging, whilst making angry walls of text.
3/10.
I’m with the other voices above — giving lupibro defiance would have far less impact than allowing wall of reflection tricks.
Did Mike the Beloved get a new account?
I remember being kicked once.
I joined CoF P1 way after midnight. They had already started and were doing the acolythe-event.
I was drunk as hell and didn´t even manage to cross the brigde! I died 2 times there.
Then they kicked me. I still don´t know why?! ;-)
I laughed about myself and went to bed.
PUGS!!!
Well, that bridge is waaaay too powerful for the dungeon’s level, as discussed in this thread.
We’re hoping they nerf it soon.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Joke-Useless-Runes-and-Sigils/first
I’m clearly biased, but I think mine is the best :P
According to gw2dungeons, she is undead (I checked a few minutes ago because of this thread, actually xD). All of the p2 bosses, including belka, are undead wrt sigils and potions — even through I’d have guessed inquest.
Wow, this thread is 8 months old with no reply, and it was posted when the leaderboard was already long overdue.
As much as I hate it, I understand that ArenaNet likes to keep future developments secret, but this was something promised in a CDI.
Is a progress update really too much to ask for?
Well, for one thing, these API’s don’t provide any additional information that isn’t already available. All of the listings are available in game through the trading post UI, whereas an PvP opponent’s skills/cooldowns/etc are not explicitly available in-game (though knowledge of a class will help in that regard).
I’m sort of intentionally missing your point here, which is that bulk retrieval and analysis of listing data is much more efficient than manually searching the listings in game. I suppose my best counter to that is to point out that these APIs are available to all — and just like a PvP player can improve his ranking by learning classes/skill/cooldowns and how to counter them, a TP player can improve their performance by learning a programming language and maths and building an analysis tool themselves.
Just like PvP performance is (usually) not a innate ability and most players must practice and learn, the same can be said of TP play :-)
And I’ll point out that this isn’t something that I just sat down and spent an hour making. I’ve put dozens of hours into this project, just as a successful PvPer will put dozens of hours of practice into “gitting gud”. I admit that I do have an advantage over more casual TP’rs with this application, but I also spent a lot of time doing what anyone out there could do, given sufficient motivation :-)
I’ve never been kicked, but I never join speed run pugs. Those things are cancer. Doesn’t even make sense — if you want a speed run, don’t look for a pug to do it….
The worst kickers are the “PINK DYES or KICK” groups. They’re just terrible.
I guess you know that interpreting the change in supply and demand for an item as velocity isnt neccessarily true because people can take down old listings and old buy orders.
However, if you only account for volume reductions to the highest bid and lowest listing, you will be able to much more accurately calculate real sales as those listings are unlikely to be taken down but rather filled by a transaction. Not sure if that is possible through api, though.
There are APIs for retrieving full listings (e.g. 25 items listed for 1s24c, 45 items for 1s25c, 267 items for 1s30c, etc — see this endpoint).
At this point I’m planning on just using the total number of buy/sell orders from this endpoint as an estimate to reduce API calls / computational expense / storage space, though your post makes a valid point. If those events are happening with such volume/frequency that it’s throwing off my estimates, it may indeed be worth doing a more detailed analysis of the raw listings. However, I have a feeling that such events will be negligible considering the low level of detail that I’m interested in.
As for sharing the code, it’s rather specialized/niche at the moment, and having multiple people scraping the TP’s supply of items I’m working with would ruin it for everyone :-( I’d love to see transaction info added to the API’s so everyone could have a clear idea of item movement, but I’m not sure how much data they’re willing to put out.
Most of the time, I dare say, it’s because a player loved the game for the first year after launch, but after seeing lackluster content updates across all non-LS-related game modes, lost interest in playing the same content ad nauseum. But since they had so much fun that first year and genuinely love the game, they (perhaps foolishly?) hang around in hopes that something worth their while will be added.
That’s my personal experience, anyway. And yes, there are also trolls. There will always be trolls. Just gotta live with that.
