Any melee weapon as GW2 elitists have turned dungeon runs into stack locations with melee only or kick instances.
Not to mention that they’re always doing all of those exploits, like reading posts before commenting.
Since ANet believes that Living Story and PvP is more important than Dungeons, maybe it just means you guys are a minority?
Yep. I’m sure they have stats that show only 1.5% of players give a flying kitten about dungeon running. So why bother supporting that part of their game?
Maybe because the reason no one runs them is that they’re stale and broken?
Really? That got mod zapped?
I just don’t understand this world we live in.
OP, sorry that you’re getting so much snark out of this post. You’ve just touched a nerve without realizing it — the regulars in this forum have been waiting for a long, long time (I guess we can say “years” now…) for some serious attention to be given to the dungeons in the game, but it’s really looking like it won’t happen.
When they do step in to “fix” something, we get bullkitten like broken Alphard for 8 months, spider queen doing ranged attacks in melee range, unblockable projectiles at malrona, invisible walls because “sheep go to heaven, goats go to hell”, etc etc.
The general consensus is that ANet has disbanded the dungeon team (we haven’t had a relevant red post in here for over a year and a half) and is pushing the handful of people they haven’t laid off to work only on Living Story and Gem Store content.
We’re tired of it. We’ve been hoping for some attention for a while, but have given up, and are a little bitter about it. We’ve invested a lot of time (and some of us, money) in this game, and now the one part of it we really enjoy is being completely ignored.
Just felt like you deserved a bit of background to explain the snark :-) We’re just bitter, awful people. And it’s 100% ANet’s fault :-P
I’m going to add you ingame. I feel like I’d be able to make you pretty happy with some of the stuff that I know.
Yay! I have new things to do ingame now! Thanks again!
May these paths forever go undiscovered (by ANet, anyway).
A guildy showed me that a while back. It was hilarious :-)
You could go all Shadow the of the Colossus/God of War on it and have the players move around on the body to reach weak points. Not many MMORPGs have the platforming elements to support that approach, but this one does.
Oh my god yes please.
Gotta go dig out my PS3 now…
Hmm…I see your point, but how will this sell gems?
Not sure if Wardens can block/reflect the bolt and I’d assume temporal curtain can’t either.
Wardens can block e v e r y t h i n g :-)
I’m NA :-( I know of some exploration paths that still get you to Farnaz and eventually Corrupted Lights, but haven’t gotten around to trying them yet. I need to get back in there and see how far I can get again :-)
And I totally understand the frustrating jumps. The old way out of the lobby with the coral (after they put in the first wall…) took me about an hour the first time I did it, but after a few runs I had it down to about 3 minutes. Just gotta learn where the invisible bumps are.
I think my favorite was the one after Belka. Man, you could see everything from on top of that one. I wonder if you can still get there from p3…
It’s like a more challenging SAB with random boss fights thrown into the mix
(edited by dlonie.6547)
You’re wrong. I can show you how to get to all of the places, for example that old coral. Mountain goating will always survive. ALWAYS.
Are you offering mountain goat tours?
Shut up and take my gold!! Lemme guess, you just climb up a bit higher and jump over the wall they put up? Just like every other time they “fixed” the skips?
But seriously, is it just 10x more time consuming/frustrating to get anywhere now?
More magical stuff
I wrote directly to the mod team but it seems they favor lunatics over there too. :/
What a kittening cesspool….And we’re the toxic community!
Was anyone else disappointed to learn that increasing MF just meant you can just get more blues/green, which you salvage for MF, which gets you more blues/greens, which you salvage for MF….
The main rewards for dungeons are the gold. You can get good drops, but aside from a few extremely rare dungeon/boss-specific recipes/gear, the drops happen at about the same rate as wandering around in open world.
Speaking of bugs, have they fixed cliffside yet?
I hope we’re not talking about Alphard-esque timescales to revert whatever broke?
I’d be happy with mobs that don’t run into meat grinders, but eh.
Edit: No I wouldn’t. But it’d be nice.
Lastly lazy fixes of glitches and bugs (invisible walls and such) instead of really getting to the root of evil made “exploration” in arah nigh impossible while still allowing fancy exploiters to skip 90% of the bosses, including lupicus.
This pushed me enough to take a few multi-month long breaks, too. Mountain goating was so much fun, but they decided it was easier to kill it than make bosses unskippable. A huge source of fun was taken out of the game for me when they put up those walls. I still have a buried hope that they will do the right thing someday — make the bosses required for rewards and take down the walls. It still kittenes me off that I can’t explore the dungeon as freely as I used to (without making any profit, btw), but folks can still skip Lupi and sell.
#GiveUsBackArah
As for some of the stats, I’m at 1.5k hours and have 86 stacks of Hobby Dungeon Explorer. I’m sure that’s a fraction of what some of you have (lol @7.5k hours swifty), but it sounds like a lot to me O.o
Not all of Lupi.
Just the tip.
I like the combat system, and I guess I see some potential in the game, and am foolish enough to hope for ANET to exploit it.
I was getting ready to write my reply, but you just did it for me :-) I’ve tried a few others, but it’s always been the better combat system that brought me back.
Combat is so fun in GW2. I wish we’d get more long-term, instanced, challenging content to use it in :-(
Wildstar sounds interesting, but investing in a subscription for a game that was made by the folks who have abandoned this one…no thanks.
Once something else comes along I see little reason to stay. They had a great thing here, and they’ve let it rot.
I math how I want.
Ghhh, more irritating than philosophers of metaphysics or of morals. And I thought there was nothing more irritating than them.
Awwww, but your namesake was a fascinating philosopher wrt morality
I looked at a reference from Berkeley that calls such expressions “ambiguous”, but I’d have to disagree. A number next to a parenthesis is an implied multiplication, and can simply follow the standard order of operations. I fail to see how such an expression is at all ambiguous.
Seems like one of those rough edges that pop up once in a while but are quickly sanded down, like the genious who figured out how to solve all of the worlds problems by relabeling NaN (check out the link if you’re a math/CS nerd, the man’s hubris is hilarious).
Still — good job, I’d never heard of that particular digression from common sense before :P Still say it sounds like someone got stoned, confused, and wrote a paper about a problem that doesn’t exist :-)
I’ll bite. As written, 9 / 3 * 3 = 9
Ok the answer is 9 because you know P E (MD) (AS) correct?
Yup. Similar the the Greatest Guard math fail above.
Ok so here is the trick question: what is 9/3(3)? and why
Still 9. The parenthesis bit only refers to the expression inside of them, not the expression that contains it. (The above is the same as (9)/(3)*(3))
it’s not 9 its one, pemdas has a hidden rule(maybe more?) which is juxtaposition. the answer is 1. Most people don’t know this.
This smells like BS. Got a reference?
bahahahaha, corrupted client data? The face has the same scars as your character.

So if you’re bad at math=an idiot? No, not talking about extremely simple things like 3-3×2 or something.
Why are “science” people so irritating?
It’s a better measure than AP checks :P
Personally, I think just something that just shows they read the LFG is best (“say ‘purple lupi dong’ on join or kick”), but order-of-operations trolling does sound fun
Or give them another shot at the math after asking them to remember to excuse Aunt Sally first.

Most of the regulars here have frequently expressed annoyance and irritation at how the game has been managed. Some of us still play, some of us don’t.
I think it’s safe to say that for most of us, dungeons are the most enjoyable part of the game. It’s also safe to say that this aspect of the game has been neglected since launch. There’ve been a few tweaks here and there, even one new path (at the expense of TAFU) when the LS was generous enough to meander into our realm. But for being 2 years into the game’s life, there really isn’t a whole lot to show for it. Worse, the people at ANet/NCSoft who used to regularly communicate with us and let us know that there might be more changes coming have been laid off (RIP Hrouda), likely due to a shift in focus by management (content —> gems). We have the same stale content we’ve mastered long ago, now the only “challenges” left are speed clears and soloing.
So, fellow dungeoneers, rather than just complaining and begging for new content (And, yes, I know I’m probably one of the biggest whiners on here), let’s discuss what things have been done right.
What keeps you here? Which aspects of the gameplay keep you engaged? What about the dungeons keeps you coming back? Is it even the game, or is it a social reason? Or perhaps just some personal desire to reach “the next level”, whatever that means to you (e.g. being able to solo, learn all classes, get every legendary, etc)?
On the other side of the coin, if you no longer actively play and just hang around the Dungeon subforum for the delightful, quirky atmosphere, what was the final straw that made you stop playing?
I just help people whom I find worthy. So that means there has to be a certain… alchemy between me and him/her. An affinity.
If I like them – their attitude and their personality, there’s a very good chance they’re gonna happily be influenced by my jerkism, and that I’ll happily show them what I know.
How to troll dem PHIWs! MUAHAHAHA
Ahem. One day they walk up to you and say…
“Magister, I don’t know what’s wrong with me! I can’t stand pugs anymore! Everytime I see a bearbow my blood pressure goes through the roof; everytime I see a staff guardian I feel like I’m going to snap! I keep making up excuses not to play with my kittened guildmates in nomad, and I’m starting to have dirty thoughts about lupi! What should I do? Is it a bad thing?”
At that point I’ll just pat them on the head, smile and say: “My dearest, it’s incurable.”
“In order to know virtue, we must first acquaint ourselves with vice."

I just noticed that the Dolyak Express went out of business.
I kept hoping for something substantial to get addressed there, but 6 rounds of fluff and then they killed it. They aren’t even trying anymore, are they?
Best of luck to you. It’s been over a year and a half since they said they’d look into fixing the soulbound dungeon runes.
Still no change.

Which dungeon relies on trash mobs for difficulty?
Then why not remove them?
I think you misread my question. I meant which specific dungeon, in your opinion, relies on trash mobs to provide the basis of the path’s difficulty?
I’m just curious because I’ve never felt that way about a path and want to hear your perspective.
AC, CM, SE, COF, Arah all have punishing trash mobs. I mean if you compare the difficulty of arah p2’s brain afk bosses to the trash runs …
I’d say Lupi still provides the biggest chunk of difficulty in Arah. I’ve run past every piece of trash in that dungeon without a problem, but still haven’t gotten Lupi solo. These mobs are part of the “skipping mechanics” in the dungeons, but I wouldn’t say that they provide an unreasonable amount of the dungeon’s difficulty.
And I’m not sure what Slowpokeking agrees with me about? I didn’t make any statements, I asked a question…
In any case, completely stripping the mobs from dungeons would be a poor solution to any problem they’d cause.
They could just leave it. Most players cant even survive phase 1 melee without being carried.
You don’t need to. The guard in the video kited with a scepter during phase 1, and Lupi was dead before the locusts caught up with him by the wall. All anyone would need to do is know how to push and dodge grubs and they can solo Lupi in half the time of the previous records
I don’t think it is that important to them
Fixing it right == redesigning a core mechanic, writing code, balancing, testing changes, rebalancing (the last three are probably skipped. See: kittenshow that was Alphard for several months). Lots of effort == lots of people’s time == lots of money.
Breaking the reflect mechanics == changing a property in an XML file somewhere. Maybe 5 minutes of one developer’s time? No need to rebalance, since they have stats that 74.8% of Lupi fights are done without reflects, anyway.

Oh, duh, I feel silly now. Because Kryta is the America of Tyria, CM is in NA.
Right?
Don’t forget to mention EU/NA
Which dungeon relies on trash mobs for difficulty?
The easy and obvious fix that would “fix” this and perhaps to a lesser degree FGS would be to make it so he doesn’t get stuck in the wall. No need for negating reflect on another boss. That would be a reasonable fix and would make him slightly harder.
I don’t think FGS should be fix, Lupi just shouldn’t be able to kill himself by reflecting his own damage back at him. The Jungle Wurm was like that and ArenaNet fixed it 2 weeks later.
because the jungle wurm is a world boss thats mobbed by hundreds of players gives a guaranteed rare or exotic with a chest that has a higher chance of giving you something really expensive.
And reflects shouldn’t trivialize open world encounters. That’s what the zerg is for.
Seriously, has anyone ever seen an open world boss actually fail? I haven’t :-/ All the reflects did was make the guaranteed reward drop a little bit faster.
Why not just remove everything inside dungeons and give us the reward upon entrance?
10/10. I support this.
What quantity have you lost from this thread?
/thread xD
Can we just agree then, that with minimal rewording:
“The jerks from both camps are why both see the other as evil.”
Jerks come from all tiers. Some wannabe elitists are jerks, some skilled elitists are jerks. Same for the other side.
Can we let this one die yet?
I’ve been trying out path 4 lately, and I’m having a ton of fun in there:
The first two fights (knight and balthazar priest) are pretty fun solo. Once you learn the timing for them, there’s a really nice rhythm you can get into.
The Melandru priest is the worst designed boss in the game, hands down. Even fighting this guy legit in a full party is dull and annoying, solo isn’t any better. There’s a recent thread about him with some helpful tips for dealing with his adds.
I’m still learning the Lyssa priest at the moment. She’s mean.
Lupi is Lupi, and after that are grenth and simins, which can be soloed, but grenth looks tricky, and simins would have to be exploited solo. The final boss wouldn’t be tough as long as you don’t get petrified.
I wouldn’t expect to get terribly far in a p4 solo, but the first few bosses might be some fun practice for ya :-)
if you can show me through the paths without it bugging out, i’d love to join ^^
Arah certainly can be soloed without bugging anything out (need to get help for parts of 1 and 4, but 2 and 3 are completely doable). Look for ‘legit solo arah’ videos on youtube.
Some people do bug bosses out, but don’t jump to the conclusion that all of us do. That defeats the whole point of trying a solo, in my (and many other’s) opinion. We don’t need the rewards, we just really like the combat system in this game and are dying for an actual challenge. Simply shutting down a challenging boss to AFK them takes all of the fun out of it.
Super. I have to admit I’ll be really amazed (disappointed?) if they let this one slide. And we all know what the “fix” will be…
I want to be able to transfer bag slots off my guard for free when they kill reflects.
Please, no. Learning to skip the trash mobs is an essential skill in GW2 dungeons. One of my favorite things to do on a new class is learn to do the skips in Arah. That’s when I really start exploring and experimenting with my utilities and weapon skills.
Just keep practicing, OP. They’re really fun. (Unless you’re a mesmer. Then get centaur runes.)
The problem with the round pillar behind her is that it’s absolute trash for a greatsword, but perfect for axe. Unfortunately, the axe chain will get you murdered with 25 stacks of confusion so it’s safer to begin a 100b chain as it counts as a single attack so you won’t take the confusion damage.
The pillar that I begin the fight in is ideal for dealing the most damage and wonderful for greatsword but makes it exceedingly dangerous if you happen to get RNG’d and turned into a god kitten kittening bird right when the clones spawn.
Gah, you make it look too easy :-P Yeah, the moa attack is incredibly frustrating solo. I ended up duoing her because I can barely scratch her before I screw something up, usually mistiming a condition removal >.< I spent a lot of those attempts just focusing on surviving, so didn’t We played around with a couple classes and having a mesmer around really helped, the reflections gave some nice breathing room. I’ll keep at it, though.
The dual ranged setup at Melandru worked pretty well. I haven’t done it enough times to notice the speedup, but it was at least less AFK-y :-)
Ah, I might be able to give that a try now that I’ve gotten better with the gorillas. The dual ranged approach sounds interesting, and certainly more entertaining than the LB AA AFK fest. I’ve been throwing in LB 5 as well to keep bleeding uptime up, although I supposed the crits probably keep him covered enough for the trait.
I like that LOS spot in the Farnaz video. I’ve just been using the round pillar behind her, and the camera is driving me crazy.
Farnaz…
Ouch. I’mma be here a while….
How many hours did it take to get the hang of her?
I would think it is just an easy solution of lupi shadowsteping out of the wall every time he is pushed in. Everyone still gets there reflects and everything is balanced phase 3 becomes more interesting with pugs
That would actually be a good way to make him at least a little more interesting to fight. Force off-the-wall fights…hmmmmm….it wouldn’t be much of a problem for anyone for long, but it’d be a rather reasonable fix to the shutdown of certain attacks when he’s in the wall.
But they’d have to rehire one of the AI guys they laid off to do that. And checking off the “Unreflectable” check box is so much cheaper and easier.
