I tried to make a Sylvari named Sticky Buddy, but somebody’s already taken it. I salute you, unknown player!
Anyone looking to upgrade in the first quarter of 2013 should wait for the next gen cards. For nvidia that is the 700 series. They always release the new series somewhere between january and march. If looking to upgrade now I’d go with the top of the line card to get a 2-3 years or more before having to upgrade again. Anything less I don’t think can run GW2 at max settings with over 20fps. I got 20fps at max settings on my GTX 460 OC 2GB and the fps would drop lower in areas with a lot of activity and such like the cities and in zergs.
I’d rather just wait till the 700 series is out so the 600 series drops in price. Cheaper for me, and I’ll have a card that’ll last me several years and generations of games XD
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 560 Ti. Loved it at first, but Gigabyte’s crappy fans are dying after barely a year of use (and JUST out of warranty). And DX11. I’m going to replace the card shortly probably with the same chipset, but a different manufacturer.
So yeah, dunno why there’s no DX11 support?
I don’t know what server you’re on, OP, but on Borlis Pass people often announce group events in map chat, and help each other find the way. I’ve joined several parties that way and made new friends along the way. I’ve generally found people are pretty cool and a couple of us have hooked up in parties later to play together.
I don’t log on expecting the game to provide me with an online social life: Anet has set up an environment with tons of possibility and it’s up to the individual to decide how they want to socialize in that environment. There’s certainly some in-game incentives to helping each other, such as gaining XP from reviving, group events, etc., but kitten they’re not going to hold our hands and play matchmaker for us.
ETA: I should add, too, that like some of the above posters I’m also a pretty serious introvert, but I enjoy the level of socialization I’ve been experiencing so far. I have one close IRL friend I run around with (in our massive, power-hungry guild of two) but I’m not opposed to chatting with people who say hi just after a group event. I guess what I’m saying is, I’m not expecting to develop life-changing, meaningful relationships in this game. I hit my daytime socialization tolerance, and then come home to rewind in GW2, if that makes sense. Low-impact socialization
Also everything that Logun said is A++ awesome.

I watch them and I often screencap the really nice ones. Jumping puzzles though, man, I suck hard at those and usually ragequit after an hour or so of falling repeatedly to my death.
I always get them in LA, but not nearly as many now. I guess that’s just where they all congregate so it doesn’t surprise me that a few slip through the cracks. Still, a vast improvement over two weeks ago!
I believe if you do CTRL + Shift + H you’ll get high rez without any game mechanics clutter to do a brighter more vibrant screen shot.
Oh, I didn’t know that! Thanks!
I hang out in this zone an awful lot because it’s one of my favourites. Totally agreed. I love the big epic battles leading up to the champion fight.
People in Borlis Pass are excellent. Last night a complete stranger offered to help me get a skill point by basically throwing herself at a veteran cave spider to distract it while I got the point. We had both died just a few minutes prior to that while we were both trying to get it, and she succeeded and then came back to help me! That was pretty awesome.
I also love how people say thanks when you rez them. It’s just one of those little things, you know? Totally not necessary or expected, but nice anyways.
haha that is awesome, jeebus! Poor rabbit didn’t stand a chance.
Definitely. It’s been pretty stellar so far, the occasional glitch aside. I must have put in at least a good hundred or more hours and still feel like I am nowhere near done exploring the world.
Ooooh, what Aesseus says makes sense. Finally figured that out. I’ll…just take my stupidity to this corner over here
Seras, good idea. At the time I only had the one pet, but now I’m collecting them like Pokemon! Now I swap them in battle no problem.
Someone in another thread mentioned that they get spam emails in-game whenever they post on the forums. After reading that I noticed that seemed to be the pattern for me. Anecdotal, perhaps, but it’s what I’ve observed.
We should totally get achievements for reporting botters
So my baby Ranger is having a heck of a time healing her pet. The hover text over the first healing skill says it heals both yourself AND your pet, but when I activate it, it only heals me. If I target my pet and activate it, it still only heals me. Am I missing something completely obvious here?
Over 9000 power? I approve.
IIRC, there is an option for target locking in the options menu (I’m not at my gaming computer so I can’t actually check this myself). But I’m having the same problem as you, even though I’ve checked that box. Often my thief will just randomly target another dude mid-fight, or if I hit the hotkey to target the NEAREST enemy, instead it’ll target a RANDOM enemy (and not the closest one!)
eta: otherwise, I freakin’ LOVE playing a thief. She just derps out sometimes.
I thought maybe it was just me sucking at the game somehow, but I wonder if there’s not something up with that mechanic?
I’m also an altoholic, but I can’t even get my alts out of their starting areas because I’m too focused on exploring the world with my main. I’m compelled to explore every nook and cranny of an area, even after getting the map completion achievement. I’m having a blast.
Also: Blood Witch was terrible. I was with a huge crowd that managed to kill her only after most of us had been downed four or five times. Most of the fight was spent rezzing each other and spamming crowd control attacks just to buy time. And in the end she didn’t even have the courtesy to drop anything for me.
ahhh there was one particular area (forget where exactly) that had lots of small cliffs and drop offs, and the fastest way to get around the area is to jump from these cliffs, well i was standing near a waypoint just salvaging some items when a human plops on the ground next to me, the guy gets up and nonchalantly runs away, then a charr plops face first, then another human, then a asura, then a nord. there was maybe 5 or 6 different people falling from this cliff, all one after another.
for some reason i could NOT stop laughing, it was so random and out of nowhere and the animation when someone belly flops on their face is fuggin priceless! xD
omg the belly flops SLAY ME. I also giggle madly whenever I see an Asura stumble and recover after jumping. So awesome. Just those little details in the animations bring so much richness to the game.
Also adorable, adorable bunnies.
A friend and I came across a really high cliff overlooking some water, totally perfect for leaping off of…there was even a convenient pair of swimming goggles. He went first and I laughed as he hit the water. Then my turn came. A dramatic run and leap…and I miss the water entirely and die painfully on the ground below. The damage was hilarious, something like 20k when I only had like 1500 to begin with!
This whole game has been full of hilarious and amazing moments for me so far. No major complaints from me.
This thread is excellent
I saw one the other day called Meow Meow Zomg Meow and it made me laugh. I wish I could remember some of the others!
So any Germans, for example, who want to game with both German and English-speaking people are SOL, basically?
Think it’s save to say these germans can speak english then, no?
No, it’s not. Lots of people can’t speak English. And lots of people can, but still find this arbitrary privileging of English to be completely ridiculous and offensive. I’m a native English speaker and even I find it offensive. So rather than forcing your ignorant xenophobia to dictate the way everyone interacts, why not just use your handy little “block” button in the chat window and let the rest of us enjoy the game.
My personal beef is with germans/french speaking their native tongue on the EU servers, they got their own flippin servers as it is, no need to polute the normal EU servers.
And as an addenum : I am Dutch, and i refuse to speak Dutch in public in any MMO, as i consider it extremely rude.
You consider other languages pollution?
I call nationalities whom have their own flippin servers, spamming in their native tongue on EU servers pollution yes.
Well, one should define what EU stands for, then. As if english speakers didn’t spread pollution themselves from time to time…
Clearly some people think it means English Union

I mean nothing bad with what I wrote below
Some countries does not teach english as much as others, and that might make it hard for that person to understand, and talk english himself, obviously. The best way then to make commercial about your guild is in your own language, if the guild is aimed towards your own country men.
Yes, EXACTLY this.
And on the flip side, there are lots of French-speaking people in NA. So do we have to go to a dedicated EU server just because a handful of English-speakers on the NA ones will be offended by our bilingualism?
You know, there are plenty of people out there who speak more than one language and are completely fine with having other languages, even completely foreign ones, on their servers. Seriously, what’s with all the xenophobia? If someone speaks a language you don’t understand, well, too bad for you.
I totally want a Zojja and Logan statue too
I would just like a way to take all my in-game butter and chocolate and convert it to IRL butter and chocolate.
Or bacon.
It can certainly be intimidating to strike up convo, for sure. I think a lot of times MMO players have a bad reputation of being snarky or mean or overcompetitive and therefore somehow less welcoming. Totally not the case. Well, except for the snarky part, maybe. Me, I just roll with it and if I make a totalkitten of myself then ah well, better luck nextt ime.
I do a lot of what Ceallach does: often I find myself tagging along with a group as we follow a particular event or clear an area, and sometimes conversations start up out of that, especially if you’ve got a good sense of humour Some of my most fun experiences so far have been just random encounters with other players while we struggle with some quest, and the hilarious banter we have while we’re doing it. I’ve found the game to be pretty social so far, but it definitely can be intimidating to just strike up conversation with strangers.

I’m glad I’m not the only one having problems with this quest. I’m playing a thief and while I normally kick a good amount of butt, I just keep dying over and over again to Doc Howler. It’s been good practice for my dodging and rolling, but I am losing all my money to freakin’ armour repairs. I’m leaving this mission alone for the time being until I can (hopefully) recruit a friend to help
