I don’t understand why people are complaining so much. You can’t really call it “gear grind” because it’s not like it’s “kill kittentons of mobs until you get”, it’s “play a new dungeon that Anet has tried to make unique and fun to get gear that allows you to play the dungeon more and beat lesser geared scrubs in Wv3 afterwards”. And also, it’s not like the Ascended gear has a major stat increase.

First, everyone complains about not enough endgame, then when Anet adds more endgame, they complain.

Never complained….not once about end game. Spent all this time in Wv3….which is my end game. Not dungeons, they can go rot. But not now, have to run it to go back to peak performance in Wv3. It’s also not going to be cheap, will have to save up 900+gold not to mention skill points/karma just to get one legendary weapon….I need a min of 3 (two daggers + staff) for my current build. But whos to say they won’t nerf my build and force me to go to another stat set up?

Sigh.

This looks to be a major grind rivaling most F2P games I have played in the past. Of course just like F2P games: I can cut the time and effort needed by 3/4 by using RL money to buy gold/materials. Working as intended?

Lookin like this gear is exclusive to that dungeon for the time being until they decide to throw the Wv3 crowd a bone months from now with a much more steep grind to procure….just like it is currently. Lol, 2 months later and I have just enough badges to buy an Invader ring. Lol indeed.

Melee anything seems to be really spammy. You can hit two buttons and pretty much beat the entire game that way, even players. But that’s boring to me….

But no class can really match the APM, muscle memory, and having to understand game mechanics no other class really needs to learn like the Ele and lesser extent engie…so I really can’t recommend anything else that matches them in this area.

However, a big no thanks for the stat creep….just no.

So it’s like +2-5 (one stat) increase now. Then it’s + 5 – 10 later. Then it’s like in that other game where my actual base stats is increased by 130k from 5k and I am wearing garbage gear I got 2 years ago. Not sure numbers but I am sure that people have at least 300k life in that game or more by now. Every tier/expansion they add zeros. I don’t want this in GW2, it is one of the reasons why I am here and not over there.

So more on topic: if only minority is complaining….put in an official ingame poll. They did it in beta so it’s already there to use. Let’s have the ‘coke v pepsi challenge’ and put it to a real vote.

All for new stuff but what I do not like is gear creep. Once it starts, it never stops.

Show me proof that half is always below 80. When I fight, majority are true 80s.

Sub 80s also get scaled to 80 and in many cases will do MORE dmg than a blinged lvl 80.

Interestingly, it might actually be better to twink a lvl 40+ and not be 80 in Wv3; do better since you scale higher than a true 80. Like my level 2 who can do 6k+ crits, which is hilarious btw. Hmm, food for thought.

It is actually fantastic group v group combat. But I would think people who HATE it would not understand how good it actually is. I am huge fan of large scale PvP and always will be. Even then you will still get small group encounters if you roll in smaller, specialized groups instead of being a sheep and following a zerg.

Also dude above me say funny stuff. Clear to me you don’t Wv3 much.

Don’t discount teh fact that Legendary weapons WILL have more dmg and stats than exotics so they are a must have if you want to be top geared. I spent all my money on three+ sets now chasing that dream (Which I reached btw) only to find out all that work and cash was like lighting money on fire; a total waste of time. I expected this a year or so from now but not this soon, 2.5 months later.

At first glance, you will have to have the backpack and rings; they are way better than exotics. Plus they have dual purpose of benifiting PvE with that added extra slot.

And then you will need a legendary since they will become BiS: they will have more dps and more raw stats than everything else. Legendaries will also scale every time they up the bar every few months so no worries legendary owners; you will soon be the kings and queens of GW2 due to doing more dps! The peasants without them (like me) can go away.

Backpack is from the forge which I will assume will require alot of gold/mats to create.

The rings look like random drops so you will have to slog through that dungeon a billion times and pray RNG is nice to you. Maybe if they are nice, they will allow you to buy them with badges in Wv3 but if it’s like it is now…it will be 100x easier and faster just to PvE for it.

The legendary weapons….hum, farm 900+ g? That or whip out the credit card. Guessing the later is the easiest.

Rest the items…well we dunno for sure, but if from that ring screen shot…all that gear will be min 8% better than what we got thus it is a MUST have for Wv3.

Anyways, get farming or get left behind….

p.s. they will put in items with all the 3 stats you prefer and not just that MF ring: count on it.

At the end of the day, stat chasers will demolish this content in a week or so and then they will be right back here complaining about no ‘end game’.

You simply cannot please that type. It is utterly impossible. That other game and its’ failed clones proved that over and over; a decade or more worth of proof!

Gives you a sense of completion and that sense that your character has gotten a tad stronger through his trials in the new area….. the gear is not a override to skill you still need great skill to get there. I don’t care about dungeons, never have and never will. My end game is Wv3, this is where I have fun. But now they are upping the bar and making legendaries BiS with accompanied better stats and damage; the proof is right there in that blog.

So much like that other game where in vanilla you had to raid to get gear to not be a free kill in PvP; GW2 is going the exact same route.

Right now I get beat it cus the other guy was better. With buffed legendaries it’s because of gear. This is the problem I have with it.

Keep ascended/legendaries out of Wv3 and I am ALL for this. You PvEers can have your carrot and I can have an even playing field in Wv3 vs other true 80s. This is all that matters to me. I don’t want to have to chase a legendary because I HAVE to so I can be competive. I don’t have 900-2k gold to throw around and be the ‘best’. This is essentially pay to win just like all those other F2P games. This makes me a tad upset.

GW2 was supposed to be different, a bastion of hope for those who wanted skill to be greater than gear. We held dearly to that Manifesto and so it was truely heaven…for a little while.

Now that has change and it will become just another direct competitor to a game that will crush GW2 just like it has done to every other clone out there over the past 8 or so years.

GW2 was unique and now it will not be. Such a sad turn of events.

Still boggles my mind that they say this is not a gear treadmill when it really is!

Either grind like mad, 10+ hours a day every day for miniscule drop rates or open your wallet and buy it all from the AH (TP).

Problem is, PvP will be effected. No, not sPvP if that’s what you are saying….since it has it’s own seperate gear sets. The problem is Wv3!!

Can you honestly say that masses of players with BiS Ascended items along with a buffed legendary weapon that does more dmg than exotics will not effect Wv3 in a very very large way? This gear becomes mandatory to play. It will break Wv3 and make it a pure gear check which is not cool.

Only understanding I am getting out of this is I will have to grinds legendaries and Ascended gear in PVE to play with the big boys in Wv3 and then have to do it again over and over as more gears is put in. It’s kinda depressing and a far departure from what this game was initially supposed to be about. It becomes just like every other MMO out there right now thus not being unique no more.

Just play, man, and don’t take it to seriously. I could not even fathom how many times I have died in any PvP over the last 20+ years. It all blurs into one after a while.

Yea it can be frustrating to not be the best but I for one don’t aim to be; there is ALWAYS a bigger fish.

Make it unusable in Wv3 or down grade all Ascended/Legendaries to exotic stats while in Wv3. I would be fine with that.

PvEers get their ‘gear progression’ and Wv3 fans won’t suffer from gear imbalances when level capped.

But no, you will need legendary/ascended gears or be inferior to people who do have them; this is not good. Gear Wars 2?

Some scoff at a plus 5 stats but add all those pluses together then times it by a full set then tell me with straight face that doing 100+ dmg more per attack will not throw Wv3 out of whack.

That ring they previewed is a perfect example: it’s way better than an exotic. They also say legendaries will do more dmg and be BiS. Not a good sign, man. This is a pre-cursor to a treadmill that will never end and only a small percentage of the pop gets to be in the ‘cool club’ while the rest are left in the dust. I went through this for 7 years in that other game and is the reason why I came here; I had it with gear grinds….now they come back to haunt me in a game I once thought would never have it.

We shall see man, but this gets worse and worse the more I hear about it.

I was perfectly happy to PvE now and then for cash, then spend rest time in Wv3 having fun. Now I have to grind for legendaries in PvE to get back to PvPing at a competive level….ok. No.

I look at that ring and thing wow, take off MF and put toughness on it: thats way better than what I got now. Then times that by a whole set, then add bigger dps weapons > exos….then up the bar every month or two. ARGH!

Already said that legendaries weapons will do more damage. That is not good in my books when it comes to Wv3.

Here’s my problem; GW2 was touted as the grindless MMO where progression is based on looks only. That has since changed after this announcment. It is gear grind straight up.

Right now if I get beat in Wv3 by a true 80 it is not because of gear but because I failed and I should practice more. He was more skilled and gear had nothing to do with it. This is the game I paid for and whole heartedly supported.

After adding new tier + better legendaries, I will get beat and think…man, I got destroyed by a guy who does more dmg b/c his weapon is better and his gear has more stats. I better get grinding and or spend lots of $$ in the cash shop to get to that guys level, yea?

Is that right? Is that truely acceptable considering what they said all through out the design process? I dunno, man, I dunno.

There should be equal stats across the board no matter what just like the first game and just like they said in their Manifesto.

Legendaries getting DMG buff will have adverse effects on Wv3 which is my main complaint along with more stats on this new gears. It means you have to do this stuff or be inferior to those that do. This turns into gear wars which I left other games to escape!

Even .00001% increase is to much. 1:1 or bust.

If so: full suit of T1, T2, or legendary may very well have more raw stats combined than full sigil/runed exo set? Stat budgets seems to indicate it will.

Depends on what sigs/runes you use in wv3, though, I guess.

This announcement means we very well might have to PvE and blow lots of gold to be top geared….for every char you play. That does not sound all that fun to me.

But I suppose we have to see stats when it goes live, because this is not going away.

Only a small portion of the populace wants them to break the manifesto. This thread is a perfect example; the nays far out number the yays.

I want to see a real personal response from the Devs about this rather than a pre-written blog that was more than likely created weeks ago.

Tell us why you are going back on the manifesto. Is it a monetary decision? NCsoft breathing down your neck to gain more revenue? A design decision to make this game similar to that other game and it’s countless failed clones? What do they really think and what is their response to this massive thread?

Oh and they are buffing legendaries as well so this will also be a deciding factor in all aspects of the game. If you don’t have a legendary, you are a free kill to ones who do since they will do considerably more dmg?

Saddens me to see them make this into Gear Wars. :S

If it was pure cosmetic or applied to only this dungeon then I would be all for it. However it is not and will become best in slot requiring you to run this dungeon repeatedly to compete in other aspects of the game.

All for new armor as long as it’s just cosmetic and not give you a stat edge which is something ANet told us would never happen.

Well it’s happening and will continue every few months now.

Jeez I take my level 10’s in and do well in WvW. Gear really truly doesn’t have a huge affect on gameplay!

The scaling system is kinda out of whack, my level 2 guardian raised to lvl 80 is doing at least 2x the dmg that my lvl 80 full exotic ele can. He is doing 2-6k per swing in starter gear.

Real test is true 80s in exotics vs true 80s in Ascended. By looks of things, Ascended with legendary weapons will win unless they are truely bad.

More than 2 stats once totaled, combining all stats on these items and all the other parts. They are adding full set for this so +2 is more like +68 at the minimum which in Wv3 will make all the difference between victory or defeat. It’s not a small difference, it’s a HUGE difference once the full set is put in.

And I like to point out that now they have thrown the manifesto out the window, new gear will pop up every few months just like that other game. If I wanted a gear grind, I’d be playing that other game and not GW2!!!

Not casual, over 900 hours played. Now I have to grind this kitten dungeon just so I can Wv3 at top level again. Also might add I will have to do it repeatedly for every set I have put together for other builds.

What irks me the most is that they have gone back on their Manifesto and pretty much thrown it out the window. This makes people who believed in that manifesto upset and betrayed.

Say what you will but Charles Onyet is an avid MMO fan and I respect his articles/reviews; he has never lead me wrong. Rest of the staff is a bit flakey and seems to be mostly only console fanboys though….but not Charles.

They gave GW2 a really good review, btw, so they are not just haters who have never even played it.

One article and where I actually heard about this first when I came back home today then I came here to see what’s up. It was quite a shock.

Sadly, no blog as of yet for more clarity.

Uh this game has no sub but we still pay money. I have bought enough gems in the past few months that summed up would equal about 6 months of sub fees in other MMOs. It’s not like this is really a totally free to play MMO and they are not getting money at all when infact they are via cash shop.

So I won’t buy that arguement that since there is no subs we should shut up arguement.

Like to see some finacial statements on how much money they have made off gems so far.

Willing to bet it is not pocket change.

On topic: changing their stance a few months after release is a bit worrying, to say the least.

I like to have news, it’s great. But when I read the ‘news’ and see that a gear treadmill is being introduced in a game that the devs proudly, if not loudly claimed they would not have in their ‘Manifesto’; I get a bit upset and feel betrayed.

Don’t care for dungeons and don’t want to do them but by looks of things I will have to run them over and over just to have the best gear to play Wv3 vs other Ascended decked players. If they make this gear unusable in Wv3, then that is ok. If not, that is the problem I have with this whole fiasco.

I have 3 full sets of gears right now and looking at this statement that Ascended gears will better means all I did was waste time, money, and gems. Now I have to spend even more to get back to competive levels. This is GW2, not that other game; whole reason why I love GW2 in the first place…not being that other game. Not so now?

Playing this game b/c it is NOT like that other game that keeps getting cloned (and failing everytime). I play it b/c it is Guild Wars who set a new standard for MMOs with it’s brilliant design and refreshing take on the genre. Now they are going the gear treadmill route and caving in to a small minority that wants this game to become just another clone. Sigh.

I guess in the end, it don’t matter. Lookin like they want to make this into a gear progression MMO after all. Time to change that Manifesto imo so no one is confused.

Last point like to make, with this new gear they will make older dungeons totally obsolete. Only reason to go back is for skins, other wise you would be wasting time getting inferior gear from them. Better to go to new dungeon. More and more this game is starting to look like that ‘other’ game. That is terrible imo.

Every single stat point matters in PvP. Guy with 100 more power/toughness/vit is at the advantage. Plus there is this infusion thing they stated which will make your char more powerful. This right there means you have to have this gear to PvP in Wv3.

This also means that PvEers will have access to the best gear while the PvPers get nothing in Wv3 unless they grinds this dungeon too. Yea, ok.

p.s. ANet bodly claimed they wanted Skill > Gear. Ascended gear announcement now means Gear > Skill. GG?

Game is supposed to be about skins, not gear progression. I guess they are going back on that promise.

Not looking forward to doing this dungeon over and over just to play Wv3 again. No sir, not at all.

What trickles of information? There is only one real sentance that matters and that is the one that says: Ascended gear will be better than exotics.

That right there is proof they are going tier gear route now. So every month or two they will up the bar making previous sets worse and new ones better. Hello typical MMO gear treadmill! Hello winning PvP by gear and not skill. GG?

This is not a good thing for Wv3, it will mean if you dont have this gear: you are dead meat. Also if you don’t have this gear; you will not be getting invites to dungeon runs due to the elitist PvEers.

Ascended gear means that this game suddenly becomes just like every other MMO out there with their gear tread mills which ANet told us is not how they wanted this game to be. I guess they decided to throw that stance right out the window….
