Grinding cursed coast pretty much. Tried the dungeons but since I made my own exotic set; really don’t need ones from those vendors. Plus they all look awful on my asura ele so I can’t be bothered.
I would love to do WvWvW but alas, server I am on has a 4+ hour que 24/7. So far, I have d/c’d every time I actually got in and then it’s back to more waiting.
Really really hope there that this will not be the norm, waiting forever to WvWvW. It is about the only end game GW2 has. But I expected this, so I am not suprised.
Love this game dearly, it’s stellar. But it needs more things to do at cap, better WvWvW wait times, and MORE pure level 80 zones. Having just one pure lvl 80 zone is not so cool imo, it’s so packed and will get even more crowded as time goes on since this is the ONLY area where mobs can drop lvl 80 items neccesarry to create top end stuff.
Ah well, no sub fee ftw. Take break next week and play the hell out of BL2.
Good for AoE farming but not so hot in dungeons.
Not sure about PvP yet.
Anyways, been running instances with a group of 2 warriors and 2 guardians when their other guardian or warrior is offline. Suffice to say, I get replaced when either of these classes comes back on. I spend 99% of these instances being the ‘tank’ and having to kite stuff in circles since they all seem to go for me first and foremost. Group has told me when it’s all heavy armor users; aggro ping pongs nicely. It seems if you want a nice, flawless run; take heavies. They can take way more dmg, dish more dmg out, and support better than any ele possibly could.
Not a bad player, many have out right complimented me. But I feel if I pick another class, I could be much more benificial to a team than playing an ele. /shrug
Something changed between launch and the BWEs. Ele was much more powerful in beta.
Things like MS used to hit more targets. Now even with increased AoE radius trait, I can AoE a group of twenty mobs and MS might…might hit 1 of them. Most time it does nothing at all. Ugh.
I get it, Ele is supposed to be jack of all trades. But really, just pick a gaurdian and be 10x better at that.

Light armor sets all look the same in most part and kind of reminds me a toddler in a jumper. That being said, wtb a cute little bunny suit.
Many many issues with the female model due to clipping problems. An example is majority of hats clip with the two bun/ribbon hair style where the hair even totally obscures them completely. Also its next to impossible to match different light armor looks since the colors are all different; you have to choose a full set to get it to look all similiar.
Had to resort to spending gems and gold on cultural armor to look marginally decent. These light armor look super nice on human models, but not so nice on female asuras.
Hard to fast swap eles, even with 30 into arcane it will still be a short internal CD to swap and then tack on 9.5 secs to go to previous elements. Also like to mention that sigils for weapons are very tilted towards weapon swap classes since they get some nice sigils that activate on swaps. ie 100% crit when swapping to this weapon for next attack. I would love to have something like that. But alas, not possible. So I guess this is why the might sigil is so expensive since it is really the only decent one for classes that can’t swap.
Was discussing this with friends. It’s actually way cheaper to just simply buy gems with gold, buy another bag slot, and then use a cheaper bag than make these. You will get more bag space and save a ton of gold goin this route, sadly.
Funny stuff.
Major issues I see that really hinder most people ( regardless of class) from doing well.
1. upgrade your gear. If your level 50 wearing level 35 armor/weapons you NEED to upgrade your gear. It matters !
2. Swap your weapons. People run in forcing themself to use just 1 weapon the whole fight. You are limiting your effectivness by NOT swapping.
3. MOVE. Dont stand still.
4. DODGE ! you actually need to dodge incomming attacks.
5. Change up skills for group/solo play. Some skills are great solo, some are great in groups…rarely are they good for both.
and this, this is also good advice.
I hate to say it in an mmo, but it applies in this situation.
GET SOME SKILL BRO!!
While I agree, like to point out that number 2 in that list is invalid since eles have no weapon swaps. We can ele swap if that’s what you mean but any ele worth their salt already does this. Also like to point out that ele traits seem to be designed to go with one weapon set or another. With not dual specs; you will have to trait according to the weapons you are using. In PvP this is fine, but in PvE not possible unless you re-do traits over and over.
Anyways, only use my ele to AoE farm events. Going to work on thief now and pwn. FotM go!
I believe there is a cap around 35% for eles at least. That or certain speed increases do not all stack. 10% from passive, 10% from signet, 25% from 10 point trait ability in air, then 33% when you use the staff ability that give you a short boost yet I get out paced by other classes. Yea, has to be a cap. I notice no difference past 35% personally.
Thing is I still do some decent dmg, I think. My AoEs while in events are hitting for upwards of 3k per hit (with full 25 power stacks). With 44% crit, I seem to crit alot too. And when the mobs inevitably aggro and all turn to gank me, I can survive a bit of punishment; when I geared all out dps I would get fragged over and over after dodge meter is used up.
I can see the merit for highest DPS possible but I can also say that surviving longer is viable too.
They need to open up class forums, dang it. :S

Would try your load out if I could, but getting the neccessary items is very expensive. To convert to proper dual wield would cost over 10g alone which I certainly don’t have atm.
AoE survival setup is doable and pretty effective to farm events. Lots of loots too. Not so effective in instances which would require another load out entirely. Wish there was…a dual spec. /inc flames
edit. like to point out something I learned long ago as a MMO player: you do zero DPS while dead.
I went 30/10/10/0/20 using a staff; power/prec/crit dmg with the rune that stacks power per kill. Use this for farming.
Also stacked Power/Toughness/Precision on most of my gear except jewelery which is toughness/vit/prec. So far, I die way way less than going glass cannon gears. It is quite noticable going from pure dps set to this when it comes to takin dmg. I still dish out some pretty hellacious AoE dmg, or so it seems since I have only played ele to 80 so far.
Anyways, now to make multiple weapon sets to fill different needs since the rune on current staff is terrible for instances. Using mainhand and offhand is better for single target I believe plus you can use two runes; many those runes are pretty good.

Only one reason to stock karma and that is not to buy gear; it is to buy salvage kits.
All the karma gear is junk that mere blues/greens will be better than.
Hopefulley they fix karma items so they are worth while, currently they are not and only really good for really expensive skins. Meh.
Where is these 64k karma gear vendors?
Only ones I have seen sell garbage trash that you can get better off the TP for just above vendor price.
None of the vendors I have found in Orr and Cursed Coast zones offer anything good to wear for a DPS type ele. It’s all healing junk.
Uh eles can’t swap weapons in combat like other classes can. Have to be out of combat to do that.
Depends on what you are after.
Suppose if you are into solo PvEing, you really can’t beat the ranger. Have bud who has soloed his story line so far up to 50…he was level 39 last time I checked. o.0
Bascially, his pet out heals most monsters dmg which makes it incrediby easy to solo. Infact he just told me he had his bear tank most of AC.
But yea, try all the classes. They have their ups and downs. Only way is to choose for yourself. Granted as dude above me said…you want FotM; go warrior. They are beasts.
Curious if new pure lvl 80 zones will be opened up eventually?
Only one at the moment far as I can tell which is kind of small. Most MMOs tend to offer at least 2. I notice many areas on the map that are not accessible.
So will this be expanded for free in the future or will this be something that will require gems and or DLC to unlock. All zones generally have a loot level cap and only in the lvl 80 one I tend to get gaurenteed lvl 80 loots.
edit. at this time as more and more players hit lvl 80, Cursed Coast is becoming really over populated to the point where there is so many people in events that players and enemy NPCs start disappearing on my screen and I have to stand on them point blank to even target/see them. Need at least 1-2 more 80 zones to spread the population out a bit more!

Atm only focusing on PvE. Current build is 30/10/10/0/20 which is essentially a pure AoE build. Opted for staff since it seems best for ranged placed ground AoE. I use this to farm group events to tag as many mobs as possible.
Just makes me wonder, all the lvl 80 ele kharma gear I have come across seems to not have power but lots and lots of toughness/+heal. Before I start blowing kharma, I need to know if this is only gears I can get with kharma. The game seems to want me to stack toughness and +heal which is weird.
I do want to make a support set but I also want a heavy DPS set with stats to match. As I said, I see heavy armor sets with exactly what I want. So it makes me wonder why guards and warrs get DPS stats whilst ele only gets what looks like a healer set? I checked all the vendors I have found and they offer pretty much the same junk.
I guess I have to buy crafted/looted armors from the TP to get what I am after yes?
(edited by fixit.7189)
Hmm stacked earth traits and went defense; did not notice much of a difference. I guess as you said, stack vit instead eh. Ele is so very squishie.
What does toughness do exactly for PvE and also PvP?
I play elementalist and basically all the gear I see available on kharma gear has it. Game seems to be telling me to stack toughness and heal. I am lvl 80, btw, and forced to use white gear that has power/precision/crit dmg then mod it with runes. Only items I do see with the stats I am after for a pure DPS set costs like 5 g per on the TP.
Is itemization out of whack? Or should I be stacking toughness and +heal like all the ele kharma gear suggests?
On that note, I notice heavy armor sets have ALL the stats I want.
Only found one true lvl 80 zone and its really small. Sadly, it is only zone you seem to be able to loots lvl 80 items other than ‘box’ event zone bosses which all scale. Biggest down side is that after prolonged ‘farming’, I seem to reach a point after around 30 mins where a) loot becomes non-existant b) lowered kharma gains. Under assumption this is an anti farming mechanic. Still, wish there was more than ONE lvl 80 zone. The 70/75s -> 80s drop sub 80 junk only in the most part so essentially all the 80s are crammed into one zone if they want lvl 80 loots?
Also like wonder where the heck is these uber kharma vendors. I been to all the chapels or whatever where they sell rare set armors but they are all the same except for the rune; basically, as an elementalist it’s all +heal/toughness junk with next to no power at all. Where can I buy lvl 80 light armor that has power/precision/crit dmg with a dps rune? I can’t find it.
Last thought, this game is all about PvP as the end game by looks of things. Not that is a bad thing but it will inevitably make the PvEers look else where for less chaotic zergfest end game PvE activities like we see here. With these anti farm mechanics, I can’t even farm effectively. Sigh.
