Also, another day and I’ve done Silverwastes a few times. On every single map, people are afking or abandoning their lane to move to another lane and hit the boss with the mortar. I’m not exactly sure how to even get feedback from Anet on this issue or if they even care at this point.
It’s very discouraging and if this is what we can expect from HoT, it is a VERY bad sign of things to come.
Why do you want to punish ppl instead of making a reward system actually rewarding for participation? Leechers are an effect of a problem. Bad reward distribution design is the cause. Running around and spreading bans or forcing disconnections isnt a solution to anything.
It’s open world, not pvp. When I’m playing open world content I’m getting random event pop ups with rewards and I cant even remember I was doing any event.
So yeah, can’t wait for new threads like this after map reward feature is introduced.
Nobody is crying for bans. We’re talking about ways to get people to do the events, or ways to discourage people from afking AT the event.
What’s so wrong with chestfarming? it’s not like you can farm for 2-3 hours and get instant rich…sure you do get few rares…maybe 1-2 exotics, and a few T6 mats…but it takes time….and i do like to chest farm from time to time, it’s an easy action that doesn’t require much thinking/attention and i can do something else at the same time…
I think you are hating just cause some people are doing some money that way and you can’t.
Also VW events are really nice if you talk to people around you…i find that when most players can’t be bothered to say a few words events WILL fail and it’s just plain boring. But when you meet some that you can talk to, and joke with…and communicate, champions neveer fail and you have some fun at the same time.
It’s all about perspective…if you go in alone determined to be all alone and ingore everyone else, yeah you’re gonna have a bad time.
Why nerf down the chestfarm? they already did that once…let people play the way they want to play…why just force them to play your way? Don’t like it? don’t do chest farm or VW. But i enjoy both and i want to keep doing them both.
The problem isn’t that people want to chest farm, it’s that people afk at the events and wait to get the chests, or they turn every map into a chest farm.
I was in 3 maps in a row yesterday where people were farming. Had to just keep hopping around until I found one at like 5% where people were doing the event. It’s irritating not because people are making fake video game gold, but because people hijack every map to do it.
Outside of leveling / discovering and solo play, it’s difficult to find an area of this game that isn’t dominated by people farming.
SW – chest farm or afking waiting for VW to die to get loot
World Bosses – massive blobs
Dungeons – speed runs
EOTM – zerg farms
OS – suicide kill farming
WvW – blobsAny kind of rewarding, difficult or new content is basically just blobbed and farmed. I can only come to the conclusion that this is what they want GW2 to be.
So players shouldn’t work together to complete common goals??
Is that what I said? No, I mentioned farming and blobbing specifically.
Also, you have very generous definition of “working together to compete common goals” – go to the Golem fight. People just stand on a box.

They all elected to play smartly and efficiently, but somehow, that’s upsetting? No sense in letting pride and personal values get in the way of success.
If they made it so that deaths don’t count towards the title, I doubt anyone would care. That’s the problem.
Of course, Anet just addressed the loot and not the title so who knows.
making the title completely meaningless by participating in this.
Not like WvW titles were meaningless to begin with.
Yak slapper, any one?
You take that back sir
I will. When you get a WvW title the proper way.
In about 10 years.
Haha, I just play WvW and let the titles come as I get them. So it will probably take years to get one legitimately.

I honestly am just dumbfounded at how you could just turn off looting and not address the fact that people are making the title completely meaningless by participating in this. Another win for farmers, and another blemish on the game.
The current meta design pretty much enforces and encourages this kind of behavior in many many ways. Nothing has been done to change that, and systems which players abuse and farm only get brought back in even more valuable states.
From Labrynth farming to the Queens Gauntlet and Champ trains which were made to counter Fail Farming CS. All the way up to EotM and the Silverwastes now, where content is practically designed to cater to this type of gameplay.
I think it’s pretty clear at this point that they don’t care about this. I wonder what new farming opportunities they’re cooking up for HoT?
(edited by gvaughn.4163)
My problem is that in pretty much every corner of this game you find people leeching / farming / afking. It’s gotten crazy. People at world boss chains don’t do pre-events. SW has people afking on the cliffs. WvW has people farming OS and kill trading. PvP has win-trading.
I’m pretty much done I think.
this is kill farming for the achievement and should be disabled. not sure if they should ban people for it because it was their mistake in the first place. i probably would. this is clearly not what was intended when they made OS so I don’t see why people are defending it.
this game is so full of farms/afkers/exploiters and it’s getting out of hand.
No, not the Mordrem Leeching Thrasher, I’m talking about the afkers in the lanes. I do Silverwastes often, but the people misusing the mortars and the people afk in south lane are causing problems.
Firstly, they fill up the map with wasted space, meaning that people who are interested in the event aren’t able to get into a VW map.
Second, they scale up the fights and then just afk, so the event will spawn more elites and champs, but have fewer people who are actually fighting.
Is there anything that can be done about this issue, other than just give up on the zone? Anet, please I beg you, do something about this issue. If it’s happening now, its definitely going to happen in the expansions zones since those are going to be cooperative as well.
Just wanted to update that I did about 4 VW fights today, in every single one of them there were people camping / trading the mortars and just afking on the ledge when the weren’t shooting.
I think this type of thing certainly falls into the realm of griefing, seing that they are upleveling the mobs in the area while trying to get hits on the boss.
I’m afraid this and other threads have managed to actually promote the behavior, more than anything. Since it has become much more common very rapidly.
I made the thread after seeing players do this for several days. I think threads like this may draw attention to it, but I think players doing it in the zone and word-of-mouth contribute more. Beyond filling out a ticket, reporting and a forum thread, I don’t know what else can be done.
I still think VW is a fun and worthwhile encounter, but the amount of people afking and misusing the mortars is discouraging.

Thanks for the feedback all. It looks as though this is an issue that several players have noticed.
@crawlerxp
This is the part that is irritating to me. If the players were helping out in some way, I could understand using them on the boss. However, from what I’ve seen, the players tend to not contribute to the event in any meaningful way, and instead just huddle around the mortar trying to pick up an extra champ bag.
I know that the event can generally succeed or fail regardless of their mortar shots, but I would A) prefer the mortar to be put toward more productive use and B ) to not reward players for not contributing to an event.
I play on a lower wvw tier, and there is still blobbing, albeit less than on the higher tiers (I started on TC and did wvw as that server went up through the ranks). I can’t say there was a huge difference in the quality of wvwvw at lower ranks. The meta probably moves faster at the higher ranks, but it’s still very present in the middle tiers.
That’s just my perspective. I haven’t done wvw in a while, due to being burnt out with the blobbing and builds.
So you basically want an existing and quite tactical feature removed because players who are actually contributing to the general success of the event gain some more mordrem parts whose only purpose is to be conversed into another currency?
They aren’t using it to contribute to the map or to the fight, they are using it to get tags on the boss. The players I’ve encountered were huddled around the mortar, arguing about getting a turn to tag the boss and doing nothing else to help the event. Obviously they are abusing what may have been put in for tactical purposes, to get some loot reward.
People are berated for trying to adjust the mortar to shoot into the lane or onto the ammo, and when I’ve tried to reason with the person shooting the boss I was told to shut up or just lol’d at. I know many people do events for loot, but at the point where getting loot interferes with the event itself, I think it needs to be looked at by anet.
Best regards
During the Vinewraith event, people are using the mortars to get tags on the boss instead of actually participating in the event or using the mortars to defend the carrier or ammo. It’s gotten to the point where people just stand around the mortar taking turns and then wait to run in at the end when the bosses are all dead. They just laugh (and worse) when its suggested that they use the mortar for the event. It’s getting out of hand.
I think this should be changed to make the mortar shots not go into the boss room.
Thanks.
RIP mesmers and our crappy stability
Cool idea and event. Can’t wait to participate. Thanks for putting it together – I hope you get a great response!
Here’s to another week of roaming Blackwaters, perp engis, and GS warriors rushing away!
And here’s to a week of watching your members cower back to your mini zerg.
The hypocrisy is strong in this one.
This might be a disappointment for you because it makes your statement invalid since I roam solo.
BP roamers lol. Everyone on your server is so built for zergs that they can’t fight any other way. #noskillsnokill /salute ()PUmesOP &lastweekofforums
no big loss

Solo and small group roamer here. I just want to give a shout out to CD and NSP roamers – I’ve had some really great fights and been schooled on more than a few occasions. There’s a little asuran CD mesmer and a NSP charr mesmer that showed me the business. As another PU mez, getting my kitten kicked with that build is great fun.
thanks for the good fights CD and NSP – you guys are legit and it’s awesome to see HoD come together and kick some butt even when we’re stretched thin.
/salute
That was an awesome SM take DH. All 3 servers were in there battling it out. I was having fun defending, but ultimately you guys pushed us out. Those types of fights are one of the main reason I wvw.
laughably bad rewards, but totally what I expected from this game.
Even though I personally find T1 Tactics to be incredibly predictable and boring, I’ve actually been enjoying this match. I guess I’ve just been avoiding the blobs somehow. So good fights, everyone. Hope the rest of the match goes well.
That said, this thread is just lousy. I think I got spoiled with Magumma last week.
Trust me, no one wants to go to YB.
Why is that? I started there waaay back when the game first came out. I was looking at silver league servers for a possible vacation home. Any suggestions?
This is just as boring for us on JQ as it is frustrating for you guys on Mag and TC. I don’t think you’ll find a single person who doesn’t want the 3 T1 servers to be in there own seperate league.
you poor thing
Can we just get an all T1 only matchup? They destroy everyone’s fun with their blobs and they pollute every thread with their constant crying and accusations.
Like seriously can we Anet?
Another week, another boring fight against a T1 blob and another unbearable match thread. Ho hum.
When you play against a $tacked server, it’s impossible to do much of anything in wvw. Probably if they changed the aoe cap it would clear up a bunch of problems.
WvW is made for blobs and super zergy play and it sucks that a smaller server has really no way of defending itself against a mindless t1 zerg. It’s a very discouraging aspect of WvW. Hopefully the next rvr game won’t be so shortsighted.
^ nice humblebrag gully
why would they care when they are making so much in gems?
when the next decent mmo with rvr comes out people are going to leave this game in the dust.
they should just make t1 it’s own league. call it the ultimate platinum ruby chocolate diamond league (so everyone will know it’s the best, natch) where you can all buy guilds off each other and cry about 2v1s. suggestion forums here I come.
yeah it’s either fight t1 servers and their boring zergs or fight the other gold league teams and have it be slow. bleh.
I solo roam on my mesmer. I can’t say I’m any good, but I do it.
Honestly? Why? Serious questions…
because standing in skill lag blob spamming guardian staff 1 isn’t fun?
So you’ve played Guardian a lot in WvW? If you have, you’re doing it wrong. But that’s not the point, just deflecting the question. I can understand that some people find it fun to go about solo. However I read a lot of posts in match up threads by solo roamers complaining that there either isn’t enough solo roamers or the opposing roamers aren’t any good. I’m just trying to figure out what the point is? Honestly. The Guardian you refer to does something for his/her team, in a game that is specifically designed for team play.
I don’t get the solo roaming mindset, within the WvW game context. Just sayin…
I like just listening to music and rolling solo sometimes. You can find some decent 1/1 and 2/1s. I can scout and pass info to the map. I mean, I also enjoy going out in small groups sometimes. I like open field skirmishes and tower defense as well. Rolling with a big zerg isn’t a play style that appeals to me, but if there’s one in the area about to take something I’ll join in. I know it’s more efficient, but constantly running from here to there on a map in a big ball doesn’t hold my attention for very long.
I solo roam on my mesmer. I can’t say I’m any good, but I do it.
happened to me on TC. I just joined the Halloween activity for the daily achievement.
Hello,
I wanted to suggest a small change to the Summary screen. Specifically, the ‘Nearly Completed’ window. I would like to be able to see a few more of the achievements that are nearly completed in this screen. Currently, I can see pvp and wvw achievements that are close but as I rarely participate in that part of the game, I have to search for other easily attainable achievement points.
That’s it. I thought it be nice to have more information in that window, or be able to select what I see as nearly done.
Thank you for your time.
I must be playing at the wrong time. People keep on talking about good roaming fight but all I’m seeing is just 10 people ganking on 1 roamer.
pretty much. just more boring zergs everywhere. some small group stuff here and there but it’s few and far between. it’s a good matchup if you like blobbing.
Hope everyone has a good week. The never-ending zerg is a bit of a snooze-fest for me but hopefully I can find some good fights here and there. I miss the good ol’ days.
A week without the BG and JQ blobs are gonne be refreching.
Stop trying to make frech happen. It’s not going to happen.
Hello,
I was playing with a group from a different server (I’m on TC, they’re on JQ) and I was guesting on JQ. We were in world 2. I got booted back into the lobby for some reason (maybe ran out of coins, I forget) and when I tried to rejoin them I couldn’t get ported in.
I tried logging all the way out, confirming that I was still guesting on the right server and then reentered the lobby. I would get the grey prompt asking if I wanted to join my party, but when I clicked yes nothing would happen. I tried everything but I couldn’t rejoin. If I tried walking into the instance it put me in a new instance.
Just letting you know. Thanks.
If zerker speed clears is what works best for you then I think by all means you should maximize that by gearing appropriately and playing with people who know the fights.
I personally don’t really care what armor people use, tbh. I certainly wouldn’t pug and then make people ping their armor, but if people specify what they’re looking for on lfg beforehand that’s their business. I personally think it’s really rude to call people selfish or ignorant because they aren’t gearing their character the way you think they should. But again, I avoid those ‘LF zerk guard/mes for CoF Farm PING GEAR’ groups like the plague. It’s a very dull style of play imo.
but yeah – for speed clears go zerk if you know the fights. otherwise knights / zerk trinks is a safe bet for most everything else.
it actually makes a lot of sense for them to show the dates where they will delineate “quarters”. so people know they need to buy gems before so-and-so date – that way they’ll get a flurry of orders before the deadline and fewer complaints.
This saved me so much time. I was missing Sea of Elon and the Catacombs. You guys rock!
I agree with the above posters. Adnul doesn’t adhere to the rules (or any rules I can figure out) and it makes it almost impossible. I’m hoping for a fix here because this is really just annoying at this point (hours failing)
I guess I messed up when I got the Sprint achievement yesterday while my guild mates used food buffs to do the Belching achievement.
So now they get better rewards for doing the sprint and I can’t use food.
QQ me. Oh well, lesson learned.
