Why is everyone so angry? I’m perfectly happy and okay with this change. Now I can buy T3 armour for pvp without grinding to rank 80! No one loses anything with this change, there are only good sides.
Amazing job anet.
I would pick Grawl or even new Thaumanova everytime. They are the fastest ones.
Dredge are infinite thus they did not add any more dredge because you cannot add something to infinity.
Neither are weapons and armour.
Zelyhn’s right that this is after all his guide. I’m very busy right now, but perhaps someday I’ll write my own guide, covering all aspects of PvE.
But both are optimal.
I’m not arguing for going all-in into the build with the highest DPS. I completely agree with Vanillea that people should be free to choose whatever profession they want to play, or whatever spec they want (so long as it’s not clearly stupid, such as the afore-mentioned no weapons no armour “build”). In particular I’m a huge fan of at least 15 points into Water and hence Cleansing Wave + Healing Ripple, as well as Elemental Attunement. I just think that a general guide on Elementalists should include all the possibilities. There are cases when you want to use Staff, cases when S/D is better, etc … Lightning Hammer as well is an important option that should definitely be included or at least mentioned.
Both 15 in water and staff are completely not needed in pve.
Thats because the Devs was not using a faceroll warrior profession for the fractured livestream.
Indeed. Instead they used p/p thief without second weapon set and without accessories.
It is a zerg, Haviz. I am recently coming off a 4 month break – ran a few 5 mans, it’s pretty much the same zerg as before. Rush down on a boss and DPS the hell out of him, minimal mechanics. Note: I never said there were no mechanics in GW2, I said in my direct words, “a trinityless system favors the zerg.” Favors, FaVoRs, FAVORS.
Zerg is definitely not 5 people.
You must think monsters are human players who spam every non auto attack skill on their bar. AI does not use skills as appropriate when off cooldown. They use skills when certain predefined criteria are reached, and when those criteria do not apply, they use skills in a predefined skill rotation.
Most of those criteria you speak of are most likely something like “range < x”. Predefined skill rotation is a vast overestimation.
Have you actually attempted to kill a world boss alone, or looked at a fractal boss’s behaviour properly? Certain skills are one-hit kill affairs, and only trigger in certain rotations – if you interrupt them, it takes the mob another 40-50 seconds to reach the same point in the skill rotation again, whereby you could interrupt them again.
I am not going to gloat here but in fact I did kill temple bosses in group of 2-3 players on daily basis.
Take for instance the Whirlwind attack of the Risen Priest of Melandru. It AoE downs all players without Invuln who did not dodge in time and it has far more than enough hits to pierce Aegis and Protection easily. It activates as the 7th skill in a 40 second rotation involving cleave attacks with his weapon, a knockback single attack leap skill with his weapon, an Earthquake AoE with a 300 unit radius which launches and damages, tossing 5x black projectiles which bleeds immobilises all targets it touches, before following up with 5x earth spike attacks from the ground which can be dodged, and finally the whirlwind AoE knockback. Interrupting the Whirlwind ensures he cannot use it until the entire rotation is repeated. Formerly, his morphing of players into drakes at the 75%, 50%, 25% marks was also Interruptible, until Anet decided to change that 5 second animation into an instant cast. Knowing and using that Interruption is why I could solo Melandru to death, where full parties fail. (Past tense, because the instant cast nature now makes that mechanic compulsory.)
His Whirlwind attack is definitely not on 40 second rotation. I recorded partial duo of him and he uses it much often and if you watch it closely you would come up with the conclusion that there is no skill rotation.
Or the Megadestroyer, whose Summoning attacks at phases 75% and 50% can be entirely cancelled out by an Interrupt chain at the correct timing, so that he never disappears beneath the lava.
Can’t say I ever done him.
At higher level fractals, players, especially Elementalists, always Interrupt the Jellyfish boss’s stunning Whirl attack, preventing it from doing any damage. This is made possible by the fact that Float and Sink are exempt from the Defiant mechanic.
I actually do that but fractals overally are really bad idea to bring up since at levels 70+ bosses have 30+ stacks of defiant.
In guild missions, the bounty that swallows players (Big Mayana) can be Interrupted to keep all players in a fight.
Have not done her(?) ever.
Against the Legendary Risen Priestess of Dwayna, the Priestess’ revives on the Veteran Acolytes can be Interrupted. If left to revive, they will summon Veteran risen Knights and Risen Plague Carriers, whose explosions are the main cause of downs at the temples.
With just 2-3 people you can simply burst her before she starts to revives anyone.
There’s a lot more examples that anyone who actually bothered to fight will know about. The current version of the Defiant mechanic, in placing too many stacks of Defiant there, makes it harder to Interrupt mobs when they should be Interrupted. Knockdown is still ok, what gets on our nerves is people who waste a zero-defiant stack status on a useless 1 second stun without even Interrupting anything important.
Every dungeon boss I solo’d including lupicus do not have any skill rotations and if you interrupt most of their attacks they will use it again shortly. The only exception from that rule that I know of is Legendary Berserker Abomination but if you interrupt his berserkering too early it will go on 5s cooldown anyway.
Defending bugged software keeps it bugged. It’s not constructive. How about talking about how to improve things so bugs happen less in the future?
Nah, it’s perfectly fine.
Instabilities are going to be hard, new scales are going be challenging, how many times can you defend senseless decisions?
You are arguing just for the sake of it.
(edited by haviz.1340)
I’m always wondering if the tester team does that on purpose or is it just their legit gameplay.
I’m sure they do it on purpose. I mean, how else would you explain just one human in their party?
(edited by haviz.1340)
Have I attacked anyone?
MISLEADING!
In [real] trinity encounters fights are designed with that system in mind. Have you ever downed content in WoW? I have – and you know what, each head of the trinity has it’s own unique challenges. Anyone here who has defeated Siegecrafter Blackfuse knows this, and Blackfuse is but one example. Also, you said the following:
“A tank has to hold aggro – he doesn’t care about keeping himself alive ( not his job) "
^Ummm, do you know how tanking works? Go try tanking in a trinity game without worrying about keeping yourself alive (what do you think defensive cooldowns are for?). A tank is very concerned with keeping himself alive. One who isn’t will be eating the floor… even in moderately challenging content.
What a trinity system will do is allow for more complex mechanics where each role is presented with a unique challenge. Sure, bash WoW all you want (and I truly understand why one would), but show me somethin in this game that challenges like Sunwell did, like Black Temple did, or like Heroic SoO does now.
Skill based? These bosses don’t have 1/10 the mechanics as WoW, a trinity game. What I mean to say is a trinity promotes encounters that are actually complex while challenging each role, whereas a trinityless system favors the zerg… oh and dodging.
Here’s a truth: I am a gamer of average skill, yet I pretty much own in this game, I do the hardest content, yet I’m not good enough to defeat heroic SoO in WoW, and I am far from alone on that one. Why is that? Because this system is much less skilled base.
I could start my argumentations about gw2 with the same word as you did, considering you think 5 men content is now a zerg.
Defiant has a place in that no boss will be a challenge if people can stunlock it nonstop until it never gets to attack. However, I do agree the current defiance mechanic is nonsensical, and should be replaced by a global cooldown (say, 10 seconds) rather than stacks that must be removed one skill activation at a time, especially when people spam skill nonstop and don’t seem to understand the importance of using control skills to Interrupt.
And what’s the point of interrupting an ability when it goes on 5s cooldown? Aegis is much better in that situation.
Warriors, guardians in Everywhere.
If you have a mesmer in party he will hate you for so many reason if only 1 melee…
Who care if he shoots less arrows ….you can avoid them….OR they get reflect by mez phantasms if you don t kill them staying melee….
I see your sarcasm detector is broken. But to properly respond, the only mesmer I play with melees him anyway.
Hopefully mesmer blink with portal will work. Hopefully.
lol The sad part about that is that players yell at you to “stay at range” for the Shaman Fight (even though I always do better at melee for that boss)…. but, yes; Entangle can be a ton of help for that boss.
Stack on the boss -> drop Entangle -> burst the bubble -> kill ads -> swap to wolf for fear (optional and only as needed for survival; I like to use it when a player goes down) -> reflects if you have offhand axe (I usually run over to a party member before using it and if there is a guard in the group, use it after their reflects).
While the ranger may be sub par due to a very underwhelming and under developed class mechanic that really should and could have been designed far better; for the most part I think a lot of the ranger prejudice out there comes from players not actually knowing enough about a class and narrow minded thinking. There are other perfectly viable options to stacking in a corner that work just as well (and while I wouldn’t want the devs to completely remove this tactic as it is perfectly viable and acceptable in my opinion in most cases, there should be some sort of mechanic against it as well that threatens players and at least makes them move from one stack to another to break groups up and make them think on their feet a little more).
Meleeing that boss has even one advantage for the rest of the party that ranges. He will start using melee-only attacks so the rest of your fellowship can chill out in the back.
I have not tried it ever but I would like to see if traps are viable for slowing down the shaman (both for ranger and thief).
But seeing as anet claims that they reduced the difficulty of harder fractals “advanced” tactics might be not even necessary now and bearbows with p/p thieves could do it easily by chilling out in the back.
(edited by haviz.1340)
You have not read yet but it is usually a matter of time until someone comes and tells that stacking in melee trivializes whole game or even worse.
And because ranged combat does not.
Still doesn’t make any sense.
My statement does not make any sense? What is wrong with it? Care to elaborate?
EU as well as other countries do have thanksgiving. It isn’t called thanksgiving but it’s the same crap we doing over here lol. Not all American’s are off that day or enjoying a whole week off like other countries do BUT that’s not the point. It’s more interesting to me that you claim that the EU server apparently is flooded by Americans. I highly doubt that most of us with a ping of 10 – 75 would trade that for a server with a ping of around 200+. Might be just me that lacks to see why Americans would prefer the EU server……
EU servers are probably not flooded by Americans but NA servers are most likely populated by other nations than Americans. Like Koreans or Brazilians.
Guys, we need to prove ourselves. Anet had to use p/p thief, staff guardian, staff necro, lb ranger and some other thief to even think about completing new fractals.
Reset justified.
(edited by haviz.1340)
Playing ranged is exploiting, you make boss don’t use its all attacks. Kinda like stacking, huh?
Leaderboards that won’t change after setting scores.
Kinda like soloQ leaderboards before decay update. Why am I not surprised.
So as expected, the content will be really easy.
New content will be so hard that you will have to run broken builds like p/p thief. Otherwise you are not going to complete it.
Stream delivered, like everyone suspected. Good job anet!
I don’t belong to the speedrun community, but I think Anierna’s criticism is justified.
I do and I don’t think so.
Hahaha. Is this obligatory for male members too?
Obviously.
As long as I get into VoIP
Ask ethics, though, I’m bad and I have a potty mouth.
VoIP is obligatory, that’s granted.
I’m terrified of running with them. I don’t want them to know how bad I am.
I’m always happy when a female wants to join.
By the way, some people got to 50+ without exploiting.
Me for instance.
Considering the fact that they’ve been quiet about the issue ever since they released the information. Unwilling to give us any responses or get involved in any kind of discussion or suggestion with the communities involved about the topic. It all comes down to how much they care about the minority in this game. It’s all based around casual fractal players and general population that stayed away from fractals for this long. Trying to make it appealing to them, even at the cost of loosing the hardcore player base. Like it was said before, they’re trying to ignore the issue and wait for it to go away, while we fade in the background, forgotten yet again…
Considering that general casual population prefers facebook games (love statistics) I am not exactly sure why they are even updating fractals.
You don’t even necessarily progress, in fractals. I’ve often helped friends of mine getting to higher fractal levels – and obviously i didn’t level by doing so, unless i used some lower (fractal) leveled character. And many times i just did a daily at 26 or over 30, while still not progressing. Not that i even had many reasons to do that – as an engineer, my cosmetic endgame is non-existing if we talk about weapon or back skins.
A title or achievement would have been surely a better incentive – but they should have put it long ago, not when they’re removing it.
That is your counter argument? That you do not have to necessarily progress when doing lower levels? Seriously?
No, it really doesn’t…
If you care that much, wait until someone you know is running FoTM31 then jump in their group. Problem solved.
Thanks for the solution. But will it not be similar to how people got to level 80? I do not want to get banned for doing that.
And we’re doing a run with haviz somewhere today, right? we could add something there
Sure but find me two guardians.
I like aegis. Preferably aegises.
You could come as ele and then we could even play 4eles/1mes. Just because ele is bad and fotm 79 is easier than new fotm 31.
Oh, sure, except it was supposed to be something they expanded every now and then, along with additional agony infusion slots. One year later, we still miss almost half of the slots, and they’re changing fractals over a certain level.
Anyway, ingame wise, they had never put any achievement or reward about said progression. And playing didn’t necessarily made you progress – i leveled different chars with my friends, for example.
In pvp you play to win, and by winning you progress.
So yeah, there is quite a difference.
I feel like I am running in circles. There was no progression, reward, achievement, whatever else you think about with QP yet people got compensated and rewarded with unique titles after anet decided to abolish that design. Why can’t we? Because you would not get anything. That is the only reason.
TIL you progress in pve by losing. That is what someone could get from your post.
See Dub? You need to get more gaming experience. Thus I invite you for our two last fotm 79 runs today before anet deletes it for some strange reason.
And what about the level 50 maw fight? Or any other maw fight after 50, anyway. Cause if i don’t know everyone at 80, i must do odd fights as well too, can’t do just even ones.
All of my pvp friends have quitted long time ago but I do not complain about not being able to play teamQ. Finding a person to do scales 50+ is not hard.
Could you be more clear? I don’t think you mean people are supposed to play in pvp to lose, right?
Infinite dungeon with the sole purpose of going higher and higher to challenge yourself. Kinda like pvp.
So, what do you see as a fair compensation then? With the example you give here it would simply be: Lose lvl 80 but regain access to lvl 40 more or less.
Hm? I am rather sure that it required some kind of “foul-play” in order to get past the 1-hit kill Agony at lvl 51, but maybe they changed that? If not I would say it was quite clear that you were not supposed to go higher than that.
With 100% confidence I can say that agony does not kill you at level 51 which is perfectly doable without any sort of tricks, exploits, hacks, cheats and other cheap tricks everyone thinks were used. In fact, doing said level is perfectly in line with game mechanics and fractals personal level progression.
It has nothing to do with this because we’re talking of vastly different situations.
In pvp you are supposed to play to win, they don’t even need to state that. The people who got that title were already playing for the top.
In fractals there was no such competition – fractal level isn’t even publicly visible, and never even mattered for achievements.
One can have played them as he wish, and there isn’t a wrong way, be it making multiple chars and bringing them to 30 and more, or bringing a single char to 50 and so on.
Please read prelaunch descriptions.
Ah, yes. I looked it up. And I am of the same mind there. Titles should not be added retroactively. But since that happened about 6 (?) months ago, I don’t really see the reason to start shouting about it now.
I am rather sure there were a kittenstorm back then anyway, and it is unlikely that they would do the same mistake again.
I do not recall any kittenstorm about unique titles in pvp and I do check pvp forums seeing as I actually did played tpvp quite often. Once again you are using superstitions without any proof or knowledge what really have happened.
In contrast to what happened to QP leaderboards I see here something I would rather not comment because that would be extremely disrespectful. In my very honest opinion, most of the people here probably did not even get above scale 30 and have neither knowledge nor experience to judge people that did.
They made it account bound and lowered its acquisition. They didn’t remove karma acquisition and put new exclusive rewards obtainable only via karma.
They changed karma acquisition. They changed fractals.
You got to the point…and at the same time, missed the analogy.
As they were temporary, people knew they would have to work during that time to get their rewards – as in, the achievements and titles that were clearly descripted. One could have done the improbe tasks i mentioned, but knowing it would give no reward. Yet why should one of those ask for rewards after their removal?
Here we have almost the same situation, since Fractals have become temporary as well.
So why should they change the rules and give rewards retroactively?
Fractals were permanent content and are permanent content. Progression gets reset, not content.
As i replied before and at least three times, pvp is a competitive mode and it was focused only on getting on the top – people surely didn’t play to lose.
So, basically, it has nothing to do with the current situation.
Especially since they are adding the competitive part with the next patch.
It has nothing to do with fractals because it is the perfect example how anet should handle it.
I think you have no point at all.
This is the first time I agree with you and that means everything.
And what makes you so sure they haven’t already done so?
And what makes you so sure they have done it? Seeing dev streams I can say with 100% confidence that they have not done it. Ever. Can you? Occam’s razor.
If I knew they are handing out titles for the QP I would have farmed it way more. Why don’t you go to the pvp section and say it’s not fair that they gave one time unique titles to ppl that actually cared for pvp?
I know why but saying this would be extremely disrespectful and I am very kind person.
I feel like the Search function was intentionally broken, that way the forum would become filled with inane repetitive threads and legit feedback would get buried.
I remember this series of strange threads asking for an advice or simply crying for nerfs. What was it called again? Hmmm, tafu? snafu?
Except it is a currency. With well-defined uses. And they aren’t changing the karma system, as far as i know.
Fractal level was needed only to access higher level fractals…and they’re removing those, replacing them with different ones (or at least it would seems so, but we’ll have to see what instabilities do exactly). Basically making the old progress irrilevant, as they aren’t accessible anymore and the new content is different.
But they did change karma. It is now account bound and much harder to get meaning that people that have not stocked it up are in really bad position. In the meantime I am sitting at 4 millions of karma and have not received more than 100k since the change (end of August if I recall correctly). I would be perfectly okay if anet had reset karma to 0 for everyone. Or 100k because it is nice even number.
They aren’t changing the gear system either, nor replacing them with something else.
Unless they extend player levels – then you’ll have to get new ones.
And technically speaking, there are achievements and titles for gear – at least for collecting cultural ones.
It is harder to get karma gear now, new players or players that did not want that kind of gear are now royally kittened over. Again, anet could remove that gear (karma gear) saying you earned it by doing now defunct content or receiving too much rewards.
Seeing as i have far less empyreals than dragonite, i have to strongly disagree. Temples and World Bosses are enough to supply dragonite needs. It’s the empyreals that are in short supply.
Perhaps because you prefer zerg content (no disrespect meant). As the poster before you nicely summed it up:
I would say that ascended materials sources are close to:
- Bloodstone —> Everywhere., nobody is worried about them.
- Empyreal --> Small group content
- Dragonite —> Zerg content
Which IMHO is an horrible design that forces people to play a lot of content they don’t like at all. Both, massive and solo/group content, should offer ways to get each material.
I fully agree with his summary.
I don’t speak for myself – i speak for what i can see ingame.
There are no achievement or title at all about the personal fractal level – one could finish all the fractal achievements at personal reward level 3. And just because you must defeat the maw a single time for an achievement, else you could just do the first level.
And neither you can display your fractal level – the only way to make someone else see it is going at the entrance with him in party. You may have considered the level itself a reward. The game does not.
There is also no title for having karma, anet might as well reset it to 0 just to be on equal footing with everyone.
There is also no title for having a gear. Anet could just remove it.
The level itself was never a reward – and even if some people are giving that much importance to that number, the game itself never cared much about it (there is literally no achievement tied with fractal level, as i said before).
It was just needed to play higher levels and getting the related reward – and they are either removing or changing (quite sensibly, i hope) said levels. Also, you already got the rewards you were supposed to get for playing those high levels in the past – higher chance of fractal weapons and more karma when playing lower levels.
I assume you speak from your experience. In that case I would kindly disagree with you.
The prevalence of Zerker-uber-alles is why we’re seeing Vigor-generating abilities restricted in the next patch and will likely see even more tightly controlled access to the boon that grants absolute immortality on demand in the future. We’re also going to see more use of effects like Toxin that apply undodgeable damage ticks – so that Pure DPS builds/gear-loadouts either start splashing in some bunker stats/traits to live long enough or begin running with support characters that can manage the survival of several people at once while those other characters continue to dish maximum damage.
There are ways to break the Berserker monopoly on awesome and they are already upon us.
Vigour nerf is due to spamming dodges in pvp, not pve. Anet does not balance pve as long as it is not broken and they do not want tanks in pve, they want you to dodge but dodge wisely so that every dodge carries a decision.
Pure dps builds (I assume you mean warriors and elementalists because other professions aren’t pure dps), run with 1-2 guardians which are glasses as well (and actually might deal more damage than warrior). The only one that will be hurt by nerfing dodge spam as many like to call it will be an average player running with random people and not optimizing their team composition. It always ends like that that who cries for the help gets punished the most (check anet’s past decisions in gw1).
Edit: Just to add some thoughts. Currently, I’m sure you are concerned with warrior’s state in pve. Nerfs to vigour do not affect him at all. In fact, warrior without vigour still have more dodges and blocks than let’s say elementalist or necromancer.
Pressure? Healing signet removes most of that and if you would want something more you will just lose tons of damage potential.
Finally, I thought that old warriors/guardian/mesmer meta was typical trinity. Warrior was dps, guardian tank/support and mesmer support.
(edited by haviz.1340)
90% sure this is the build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fEAQFAWhMmmbsR5gjEAEFm8SQhAHMKASRxM7A-ToAg2CuIaS1krJTTymsNNW4ICHe definitely has sigil of corruption, given that he has full stacks of corruption
He definitely has 20 in water, and the given trinkets given his health combo. He heals a condi on water-swap, and has lower CD on water attunement for sure.
He definitely has only 10 in earth, given he doesn’t proc the 15 point trait. That earth trait is lower signet CD.
He definitely has only 20 in arcana, given he only procs elemental attunement and has blasting staff.
The rest of the points are 20 fire given he does proc the 15-point trait on proc it seems. I would guess its the +5% damage to burning foes, and chance to proc burning on crit (given his amulet as well) to help cover bleeds.
The runes of the undead make most sense given his amulet, although it could be +condi duration runes.
He’s definitely 0/0/30/20/20 given that signets do not lose their passives and that earth skills have -20% recharge. Also, he shows traits at the end of 2nd video.
To everyone against any compensation for losing 50 levels (I lose 100). Would it hurt you if we get mini dredge or Clown Cart Fan title? I would be happy with it.
