I’d like that option as well.
Really? No one else finds the special effects from other players during large scale battles bothersome?
OK…
As we all know, during large WvW battles or some Dynamic Events, the special effects from players creates a clusterf—- and pretty much most people ask: “wtf is going on, i can’t see anyhting”. I’m not sure if others would agree with me, but I’d personally like to have the option to severely reduce player/mob special effects yet keep it identifiable enough to be recognized.
I know reducing the Shader and Animation reduces the quality of the effects, but those also impact the environment as well. I’d rather keep environmental fidelity intact while reducing player/mob special effects.
Not only does it aid in understanding what’s happening (relative to current amount of special effects) during large battles/boss fights/etc… but it also reduces load on our hardware. It would be nice to also have the option to keep our effects normal in order to emphasize it on our screen.
Hope this made sense.
Edit: Guess I’m the only one that would like this option :/

My only issue with DS is that it hides the rest of the UI, that’s it.
It’s extremely useful and fun to use. It has a short CD so it’s basically good to jump in and out quickly. For example, I use it close the gap on an enemy, so I use DS, close the gap, get out of DS and start stabbing/blinding/dropping wells.
I will agree that I personally was able to use DS more often with my Power Build, rather than Condition build… then again, I didn’t enjoy Condition build so I haven’t really put the time into it (it’s just not my cup of tea).
Ya, I’m gonna try deleting the local.day file… I used to be able to play with everything on High with minimal fps loss (was mostly around 60), now as soon as I change from Low it’s framedropping all over the place.
I do like the fact that they added new dailies in the rotation but 2 of them create an issue that plagues most other MMOs and GW2 did right, till now.
Dodger and Healer dailies are slowly creating Competitive PvE, which was something that was abolished from Day1 in GW2.
I personally don’t have an issue getting these accomplished. There’s a certain spot I go where I can complete Dodger/Healer and an Event in 1 shot.
The Competitive PvE comes into play in the lower levels, where some level 80s lurk around to do their dailies. Just yesterday I was playing on my level 5 alt where I was killing centaurs to complete the heart quest. So I see one running away from 2 players, so I engage and kill it. One of them starts blasting me with profanity cause they were using that Centaur to complete their dailies.
As for the healer daily, at some point I forgot I was on my alt and it can’t take on a vet + several of it’s minions and well, I died. So here comes a little friend to fondle me back to life. Half-way through ressing, he stop and says: “Hold on, I have friends coming to res you as well for daily” so here I am, on the ground waiting for a party of 5 to come to res. At first I didn’t think much of it, but it was taking a while, so i just WP-ed. As you’d guess, they went apekitten over it and started arguing over it.
Another issue this is bring up is that sometimes people let others die so they can res them for the daily, whereas before, they’d step in and help the weaker one.
None of this would happen before the introduction of these 2 dailies, now it’s gonna start to create a weird experience in a game that had gotten rid of competitive PvE.
That being said, I really like the new Laurel system, it’s not hard. The prices are just right. This is an MMO after all. There needs to be a balance between time to acquire an item and effort put into it. I personally think it’s quite balanced.

Necro only gets Axe off-hand…?
What about Swords? or maybe something LONG RANGE instead of that annoying / boring staff. Give us long range throwable manure for all i care, I’ll be happier, that’s for sure. No annoying sound effects though.
anyone else can help me with this?, i fear that my GPU has something wrong with it.
What are your specs then, we’re not psychics to know what you have GW2 running on.
That looks more like you’ve set the Rendering to Subsample. Maybe that’s the issue? Switch it to Native.
Yup, test it out with an Elementalist. The water finisher splash started killing my fps. It was dropping from 60 to 30fps and that was just 1 ele (guildmate)… imagine during the WvW…
Spell effects are part of Animations (more environmental than player effects) and Shaders. I’ve set them both on low.
I honestly got fed up with trying to make my game look good, so just playing with everything except AA Texture and shadow are on low. The 3 mentioned are on FXAA and Medium.
Funny how an i5 @4.2Ghz with 16GB and SLI GTX 560Ti is struggling with this games engine.

I thought you could through the dyes… never bothered with CoF Armor… looking at the minimap though, maybe it’s the sPvP Variant? So bought with Glory maybe? I don’t spvp either :P
Yes and lucky for you lots of people run CoF.
Axe in DS with Axe Training will still, and I can guarantee this, do less damage than staff with no training in DS.
Base stats and power coeffecient for Axe are garbage. It’s a kiting/superiority weapon, not a main DPS weapon. Use it as such and it’s axe-ceptable.
LOL
That’s the most ridiculous assumption out there. Staff is our single weakest weapon. It has great marks when traited, but is at all points not a main dps weapon. There isn’t a single knowledgeable necro that would claim that. Staff is great in specific situations. Axe is great all the time, and DS is our most powerful attack outside of Lich Form.
Actually, because Staff is a 2-handed weapon it has a higher base-damage which affects the amount of damage that LifeBlast deals.
You can test it yourself in the mists, equip a 1-handed weapon and staff and switch between the 2 in DS, Staff equipped damage will be higher.Edit – Axe is also a horribly niche weapon while Staff is versatile as heck, just look at the amount of builds that use each weapon.
But the staff sounds will drive you ccccuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrraeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Definitely… Everytime I’m forced to switch to it, you know, since we lack in long range, i just remove my headset. Can’t stand the noise.
No.
If anything, add more skills. Interesting and fun ones.
I run such a build.
Gear: half knight’s, half berserker’s.
Runes: 6/6 vampirism.
Weapons: dagger/warhorn + axe/focus
Sigils: Accuracy on main hands, blood on offhands.
Food: Omnomberry Pie, Superior Sharpening stones.
Slot skils: Consume Conditions, spectral grasp, well of suffering, spectral walk, whatever for elite. You can slot in spectral wall for spectral grasp if you want.Traits: 10/20/10/0/30 taking Spiteful Spirit, Weakening Shroud, Spectral Attunement, Shrouded Removal, Spectral Mastery, Unyielding blast, Near to Death.
Alternatively, you can trade the 10 in Spite for 10 more in Death Magic and take Reaper’s Protection, then switch Unyielding Blast for Master of Terror. If you do this you can trade Near to Death for Foot in the Grave as well, depends on what you like.Final stats: over 3.1k attack, over 50% crit, 60% crit damage, 2.6 to 2.7k defense depending on how much you put into Death Magic and your gear setup. No extra vitality but you make up for that with sigils of blood, omnomberry pie, the vampirism runes, and crazy life force regeneration. If that bothers you feel free to trade some of the crit chance for vitality by swapping out some berserker’s for valkyrie’s.
Playstyle
-each of your spectral skills will give you 5% life force on use. If you have 0 life force, use spectral grasp on a critter, then kill the critter, bam, 28% life force.
-The protection from spectral wall lasts 7s and the wall sticks around long enough for you to walk through it twice, more if enemies are removing the protection, just stay near it.
-6 ways to stop kiting/fleeing enemies. Grasp is the most fun.
-Perma-swiftness with warhorn and spectral walk. even without Banshee’s Wail and only 10% boon duration, just make sure to cast them as soon as they are up.
-Basic burst combo is dagger 3 + well of suffering + toggle DS for fury and enfeebling blood + dagger 1 spam.
-remove those annoying long, single conditions off of yourself with a quick switch-in-and-out of DS. works on fears. Very effective against P/D thieves, bleed warriors, confusion mesmers, or other builds that focus on stacking 1 thing on you. Helps against the multi-condition builds too cause you can wait a bit longer before popping heal.
-After using Axe 3, toggle DS for an extra few seconds of retaliation.
Another good build along what you’re looking for is Sheobix’s Juggermancer: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Juggermancer-Final-Blog-Link/first
All PTV gear though, which is harder to come by than what mine uses.
I more or less run the same build, but more focuses on toughness and less on vampirism and I’ll second Spectral Grasp being awesome. Especially in WvW, nothing’s funner than yanking people off the castle walls when they stand on the edge.
However I do play more defensive nowadays. I usually stick next to my guildmates and deny any of those annoying thieves a kill. I do run in like a madman and plot down both wells (I use suffering and corruption) and it’s always funny to see the enemy back away from it… kinda feels like controlling the playing field.
Necro class, to ANet, is like that garbage bag that missed the bin and fell somewhere that no one will ever bother picking up, so it sits there, with it’s insides rotting as time passes till nothing but the plastic bag with a horrible stench is left.
So basically nothings going to change for Necro.
That being said, I still love Necro and it’s the only class I have fun playing (not sarcasm).

“Here lies the annoying one that kept throwing Harpy love potions at people and liked to fondle downed people back to life”.

Note … if you are part of a server that will be facing Dragonband next week, then let me say that WvW is super-boring and you should probably farm in Cursed Shore for the week instead.
I just threw up all over my work desk as soon as I read Cursed Shore.
Use omnomberry ghosts and master maintenence oils with that knights set to live even longer and smash more faces.
And dont forget your golems in a box.
What does the omnomberry ghost do exactly? I guess it will be more economic to get Chef crafting prof as well at some point to make those.

Just wanted to update and thank people who’ve added their experiences with WvW.
I’ve decided to ditch my Berserker set and went with my Knights set. At first I made it for kittens and giggles but when using it during WvW when was testing it’s waters, i noticed that I can live longer with it while still administering decent damage.
I’ll try out WvW more tonight, hopefully with Guild mates, try to utilize some of the ideas you guys have written down.
Thanks for the replies guys. I’ll try out some of the stuff you suggested.
No thanks, you’ve already decided that you don’t like it, so posting this ultimately has no purpose. If you don’t like it that’s cool, but I do. It boils down to that.
I don’t have to justify to you what I like and don’t like, nor do I have to convince you to like what I do or don’t. No need to start topics for the sake of arguing with people — after all, that’s what you’re here for, right? From the tone of your opening post, you’re most certainly not here to learn.
Have fun out there.
Actually everyone but you have given me a different perspective of WvW which have piqued my interest.
I respect your opinion though, except the part that if you don’t care or want to provide any information, then why bother posting? You could have just click on back and navigated your way to another post.
(edited by iSmack.1768)
LOL, I just realised who the OP is. sounds rather familiar.
You know you love me
Sorry to hear that your PC is strugging with it, though and that WvW isnt all that appealing to you.
I’ll try list things exclusive to WvW:
Combat is more Kinetic than in PvE. You cant knock baddies in PvE off the edge of a cliff and to their death; but you cant do it in WvW. Kudos to that Dragonbrand Guardian from EA that Banished me off the bridge during my Churning Earth outside Durios the other day >_<.
The dynamic nature and the unpredictability of encounters can unfold in various and memorable ways. This is especially true in WvW due to the fact that you’re up against 2 opponents with their own agendas.
The profession skillset is fully utilized and with utility skills that seem alot more valuable in WvW/PvP situations compared to PvE. Eg. I can literally count on one hand how many PvE enemies actually strip boons off you; yet this is very common in WvW. I know a few people that actually have seperate builds/gear and playstyles for their profession in WvW.
Sense of community and the familiar faces on your server. No other part of the game has this, no LFG2M strangers or LFG any Bunker Ele that floods chat in LA or the mists. On my server, I will reliably see the same guilds, commanders and players in a given WvW zone. And this is, in turn leads to the sense of server loyalty and a means to fight for your server and the players around you that made the experience enjoyable.
There is tension to scouting and exploring provided if that is your thing. Unfortunately, since this experience is subjective from player to player, such tension encourages those that arent uncomfortable with it to zerg as a means to feel safe in the PvP zone.
Finally, one underestimated appeal of WvW: Guilds actually have purpose, throw other guilds in the opposition that do the same thing and you have drama that stems from actual gameplay. I, as well as many others here, just find the matchup rivalries, the beef, controversy, the tier rankings rather appealing to see unfold.
It is quite fun when I’m running with you guys (and it’s thanks to you guys for giving me a chance to even explore areas i had given up on), lots of it just doesn’t make sense to me. I do enjoy when we go camp flipping, but it gets recapped a few minutes later and I’m thinking, well what was the point of that… but when you guys aren’t on and I’m running around in WvW alone or try to run with other people there, they always end up with the zerg and it’s boring :/ i don’t feel like I’m contributing to anything. Just mindlessly mashing buttons in hopes i hit something.
My issue is that I have to sacrifice a utility skill in order to be able to keep up with you or Hunterider. So as soon as we get into combat, I’m already down 1 utility skill in favor of speed… which gets negated thanks to the ‘while in combat you’re slowed down’ mechanic. I don’t know… I can’t stand the other professions, but Necro has it’s drawbacks. No leap, no gap closing (have to switch to Death Shroud and that skill takes a while to get to target that i can just run to them, not to mention it misses half the time or it connects but I don’t get teleported next to the enemy), only way to get speed is through Warhorn, or 2 utility skills.
First time I tried beer I was 8. My dad let me try a little sip and wow it was horrible. I don’t remember what kind it was, but it was bitter and gross and I think I just spit it out. Fast forward a couple years later and I’m 16 hanging with some friends at a park and wow, that was some good beer. Not because beer got any better, but because I was with my best friend’s in the world and we were having fun.
TlDR: doing anything with your friends is usually fun. Don’t drink and drive.
“doing anything with your friends is usually fun” of course it is, that’s the only reason why I’ve been able to explore 2 out 3 BLs and 2/3s of EB. But the game mode, itself just doesn’t seem appealing.
The reason why I’ve bothered making this thread is cause i enjoy sieging games. Mount and Blade for example. Add the goofy animations and it’s a recipe for hilarious moments. But i can’t seem to find any joy in WvW here and I want to see what others find fun so i can try them out and see if I’ll see the light.
Tell me, what’s the attraction to only fighting scripted mobs all the time?
Exploring (don’t need to sacrifice the games beauty to enjoy the scenery/have playable fps). NPC interactions and their stories. The sense of the world having a believable (although it’s a fantasy world) sense to it demonstrated by struggles/conflicts that have happened in the past of the games universe. Team-working with friends to tackle bosses. Using combos together (I’m a power Necro, so one of my friends has high bleed dmg on his character, I just spread that with epidemic).
Speaking of Team-working, in WvW there’s no feeling of team-working, it’s just following the herd and attacking what isn’t friendly. You can try doing combos with friends, but it ends up being a kittenstorm of random effects, coupled with the fps slowdown.

I’ve been getting more and more into WvW since the past month or so (aka I’m still relatively new) and it is EXTREMELY boring to be in a zerg or to solo. The only reason I like to play it still is because of my guild. My guild’s neither serious nor big in WvW but I like VoIP-organized gameplay, at least pretending to get things done, and WvW is really the only place where it shines (sPvP for me is just a whole different world I have no interest in).
Forgot to mention, when i do camp flipping, it’s usually with guild mates. Although, we don’t have VOIP.
(edited by iSmack.1768)
I like trying to kill other players.
PVE is scripted. DO this, move there, do that, wait, fire this skill, run left, run right, blah blah blah….boss is dead.
People are unpredictable. Sometimes they do the darndest things…things I’m not expecting…things I need to adjust to.
Sometimes they just do different things. Last time they did this, this time they do something else. Have to adjust again.
It’s fun trying to outsmart, outplay and adjust to what other players are doing rather than doing the same thing against a scripted PVE challenge that doesn’t vary much (if at all).
But see, you can do that in sPvP, why go to WvW?
I’ll start off by stating that I’m more of a PvE person. I dislike PvP (when i comes to MMOs, i don’t have a problem with Quake Live, BF3 and so on… excluding CoD) and try to avoid it as much as I can.
Unfortunately, WvW is part of the Map Completion achievement. We can argue about why it should or shouldn’t be part of that achievement in another thread. That being said, I’ve already completed 2/3 Borderlands and 2/3 of EB.
Every time I venture in the borderlands/battlegrounds, I just start getting bored/annoyed. I truly don’t understand what’s the appeal in WvW.
Massing is the only viable ‘strategy’, i use the word strategy loosely here, and are just plain boring. There’s no point in camp flipping with a small group since 1/4 of the zerg will just break off and reclaim it in a matter of a few minutes. Sieging constitutes of having 1 team standing in front of the gates, using 2 battering rams, which barely do anything, while the rest press 1 and stand there, all the while defending team shoots arrows at them with the arrow cart. There’s no sense of epic-ness to it at all.
Horrible performance on a Mid-high end system. Guess playing every other game at 60+fps has spoiled me, but hell even Planetside 2 manages to run around 40fps during large battles involving all 3 factions (yes i know that their engine uses less customizable character which aid significantly for the performance), while GW2 WvW manages to go as low as 10-15fps, which irritates me.
Then there’s the whole culling issue… I know ANet stated that there’s a new culling/LOD system that’s coming, but i doubt that’ll fix the performance issue.
Then there’s the whole class imbalance issues, but let’s not get into to much detail about it.
So can someone explain to me why they like WvW so much and what’s fun about it for them?
Enlighten me please.
It happens to me when I have reflections on. Try turning it completely off and see if that helps.
When it states there’s very high population, it’s meant to indicate that there’s a large sum of people that have that World as their home and not how many people are logged in.
If WvW maps were part of the world, why can’t we see it on the map when you’re in Tyria. They are instances, like dungeons. Dungeons don’t count for the world completion, WvW maps shouldn’t either.
They aren’t part of Tyria.
(edited by iSmack.1768)
Pretty much why the headgear slot is unchecked in my character window.
Since the spells in the clips aren’t accurate at all (not talking about the dmg output cause that’s rigged of course, but i’m talking about the spells effects)…
Doom isn’t as cool as in the video. It’s quite lame now. Doesn’t even act the same, nor is the special effects similar.
Grasping Dead isn’t as cool as in the video. It’s eh atm. I think it looks cooler when it did a wave like in the vid.
Bone Minion only summons 2, not 3.
The other 2 are still accurate, except that neither of them are as powerful as they are portrayed in the vids.
“Necromancers feed on life force, which they can use to bring allies back from the brink or cheat death itself.” The only skill we have that can bring back allies is…none actually. ‘Cheat death’ itself would be with the Signet of Undeath, which doesn’t even use Life Force. We can’t interact while in Death Shroud so I don’t get where that statement is coming from.
Which kinda makes me think, isn’t this false advertisement in a way? I know it’s nothing major, but then again they are literally showing what it’s supposed to look like in-game, yet in reality, it’s not as it’s being demonstrated. I’m sure the other classes have inaccurate clips as well.
I know this is very trivial, but I’m sure lots of people checked the website profs page before trying Necromancer out and then realized that pretty much half the stuff written there aren’t present in the game.
(edited by iSmack.1768)
I mostly use for fun (I mostly play as a power necromancer) when playing as a condition necro. My main weapon set is Scepter/Dagger and 2nd weapon set is Axe/Focus. While dishing out the bleed condition with scepter, i just switch to axe/focus to apply a kitten ton of vulnerability with Focus4 and Axe1 then deal about 4500-5500 worth of damage overall and once the weapon switch is ready, switch back to Scepter/Dagger.
Don’t forget the underwater mob that decides to go Invulnerable when he’s down to 5% of it’s HP! That’s a fun mechanic!
Every other class gets cool stuff/fixes/improvements/buffs/nerfs. We only get 2 soulbound Oranges.
I’d be happy with my 2 oranges I think.
I was gonna say Necro enhancements/improvements/changes, but that’s due 2015.
Separation of PvP / PvE related achievements, mainly Map Completion. I hate everything about WvWvW so having map completion separate for that would make my day.
Less emphasis on Greatsword skins and give the others some cool looking skins.
Engine Optimization.
Emotes.
More stuff to do for those that are not interested in 3/4 of the boring/poorly designed/grindfest stuff. There’s gotta be some sort of contrast.
(edited by iSmack.1768)
Don’t have a problem with the animation, but the sound effects… my god….
I wish we had a checkbox in the sound options were it lets us turn off specific annoying sound effects.
I think instead of that god awful Necrotic Grasp with it’s annoying loud/bad sound effect should be replaced by triple scythe that is on Focus (of course keep the same effect but different visual for Focus), but give it another effect, like spreading Conditions, bouncing from enemy to enemy.
Oh how i wish the cogs were not Account Bound… I don’t need them. They are just collecting e-dust in my bank :/
Class: Admin
Type: Every type
Weapons: Everything (doesn’t matter though, see below)
General idea:
-1 to instantly kill something no matter what level/state/buff/skill it’s using.
-2 to instantly AOE kill everything no matter what level/state/buff/skill they are using.
-3 teleports you anywhere.
-4 automatically completes the Renown Quests.
-5 automatically completes Dynamic Event.
-Heal: Heal everyone in the Map 100% and clear all conditions. For every condition removed, players get 100% MF to promote more grinding. Only works in level 80 zones, cause honestly, who cares about the others areas. Stacks.
-Utility 1: Add all type of buffs to everyone in Map. Infinite duration.
-Utility 2: Buff X Class (Every week a new class. is chosen)
-Utility 3: Nerf Y Class (Randomly picks a class that’s not X).
-Elite: Places a new build of the game forcing everyone to restart. For every player that restarts their client, Admin class gains 1 gold.
The only downside, is this class doesn’t have any Traits.

Someone take a screenshot. This is first time we’ve had a red answer! :O
Bah, screw the mini! Endless Tonic is where it’s at!
I just hope we can use it after Wintersday :o
Toy Soldier :], and…
Did anyone happen to get screenshots of the airship over the various cities? I tried in the Grove to find a good vantage spot for photos and couldn’t. Forgot to look in Divinity’s Reach.
Here a couple I took yesterday and today:
Smia?
If that’s you, did you get the Char toy yet? What is it? (At work now so I can’t login) =[
I truly hope that theme song starts playing everytime we summon it. I’d rather listen to that obnoxious tune that hear the sfx of Necrotic Grasp.
im calling it now.
there wont be a minion Ai fix till February
You mean February 2014 right? Cause I believe so too!
Last patch of last expansion is my guess. Along with every other Necro fix.
Ok so after trying out 1920×1080, not much was different… Still dipped down… maybe gained like 5 fps, but i’d rather have the clarity of native resolution, so I just bumped it back up to 2560×1440.
I’m getting 120fps in some areas while I’m doing PvE… so I’ll just stick to those areas for now… Still need 100% map Completion.
