Favorite: Elementalist. I find D/D fun. I love how different staff play style is from D/D
Least Favorite: Thief. I find it boring and less complex

Watched the TCG and Abjured match. Then played some pvp. Have a few random questions.
1) Can someone link the thread with basic sPvP info? (don’t fight off points, try not to die, outnumber enemy when you can, etc.). I’ve seen it linked a few times… no idea where it went though.
Games are so situational… there are a ton of if/ands/buts. I don’t understand rotation very well and am looking for some general guidelines. To have some context for my questions I will paint a picture. Any help is appreciated. For the following assume the scores are even… say 200 v 200 and that if indiciate I am solo at a point that there is a fight going on or near the other points.
2) When someone says to decap far, I run and decap it (no enemey), do I stay and camp in anticipation that they will try to take it back? From the perspective of the following scenarios:
a) The only point we own is now this far point.
b) We own home and far.
c) We own far and mid
d) We now own all points.
3) When I take mid and everyone leaves to either defend home or try to take far, do I camp mid solo or assist on a side node evem though I knowthat the enemy will eventually go to mid?
a) The only point we now own is mid.
b) We own home and mid.
c) We own mid and far but not home.
d) We own all points.
4) Beginning of Forest of Nilfel, is it more advantageous to send a body to kill creatures or send 1x home and crash mid with the rest? Should we ignore creatures for points?

Nothing is worse then ranger day imo.
Overall another junk decision by ANET.
When courtyard was still part of ranked, I checked after the reset before they removed it and I was rank 89 (surprising to begin with… but my point is that I felt tried hard and that my hard work helped secure a win). Further, I have actively made the attempt to improve and genuinely believe that I have.
However, my rank has plummeted. I am now in the %‘s. I feel I lose all the time. I don’t know what changed, but something certainly did. I roamed the borderlands at the beginning of the week and tbh it was more fun the PvP has been. (espcially given ranger days…)
I am playing the standard zerker 6/4/2/2 staff build.
I am having trouble in two dungeons: Crucible of Eternity and Sorrow’s Embrace.
My trouble is in two forms:
1) My HP is around 12k. Burns in both these dungeons chew huge portions of my life away and seem inevitable. Doesn’t seem group has enough cleanses to keep condi perma off me. So when the groups force us to stack— I can’t seem to stay alive, let alone above 90% for the damage modifier.
2) In Crucible of Eternity I constantly have alpha aggro. I can dodge his obvious large attack, but since he is aggroed on me — that plus constant burn damage leaves me dead.
My experience is pretty consistent when I run these dungeons on my elly. I end up resorting to my warrior and guardian who almost never have direct aggro, can deal with residual condis by larger health pool or cleanses. Further, with guardian I can cycle aegis.
If anyone has had the same experience I would love some tips on how I can survive while stacked in these dungeons.
Also, why do I have aggro in the Alpha fight? I thought toughness had something to with it… however I’m sure the guardians in the group have more toughness then I do.
Any help with these matters are appreciated. Thanks!
“If you want fights why not just join a zerg, heres the reason most people avoid random solo fights..usually a player will do various things on a map. "
Many of us hate zerging. Many of us don’t want to follow a blob of people around and bang on a keep door over and over. Some of us find zerging boring. Honestly, zerging makes me a worse player. Further, I don’t want to attack NPCs. Yaks all night long or camps of NPCs. Boring. I play this game to fight other people. When I get excited about playing I don’t say “Gee, I can’t WAIT to take north camp tonight! It’s going to be an awesome 15 seconds!” I usaully say, “I really hope the game isn’t dead tonight. I want fights”
“Me for example I zerg, havok, scout etc, whatever can help out. I, like most am not setup with duel gear/build which means its pointless for me to seek random 1v1 fights with reg roamers who are, If I am running on a map its for a real reason not to troll players or look for fights. "
That is the way you play. Great, zerging is not for everyone.
“If thats what you want, join a zerg, if you want small fights/duels go pvp.”
I can’t stand this statement. I don’t want a red team/blue team match where I am required to run around playing capture the flag. I hate that crap. If I wanted to do this I would go buy an xbox. WvWvW, RvR or w/e you want to call it has been unique in the fact I run around with my friends, not play under layers of rules and not containted by tiny cramped maps.
The game is designed perfectly for roaming, it’s just not possible anymore because it’s dead.
(edited by ionix.9054)
Maybe because DB vastly outnumbers IOJ and NSP so they don’t even want to log in?
We’re logged in to PvP lol….
Not worth roaming with DB in the match up
Agree that t3 is dead?
It’s dead because of Wagonbrand superstacking…
Well whatever the reason, it’s dead and sucks for everyone in t3

Thanks for offering a reason. That may be a reason it is dead, yes.
Dragonbrand: just did a run for 30 minutes and not a single enemy. Seems pretty dead to me.
This is roaming for fights. Not everyone wants to magnet to the zerg…
I am a transfer from Sorrows to Dragonbrand. WvWvW is dead. Up until two weeks ago I roamed exclusively; stayed away from blobs, siege etc. The maps are so dead we resorted to taking north camp and waiting (sometimes 10 minutes) for enemies show up. Trust me, this gets old when you’ve done it nightly for months.
What are we left with? PvP? A capture the flag red team/blue team halo match? Umm… no thanks. Halo did it better imo
Thanks from response. From players, keep lord or WvWvW rank up? (so I can say prayers at the right time)
Two people have told me precursers drop in wvwvw. Is this just a rumor or is this confirmed? Thanks
You’d be pleased to know that there’s an actual game mode that’s focused solely on small scale fights and duels:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvpMeanwhile, don’t be the jerk that lets your team die because you insist on dueling with enemy. WvW is meant to be a field of war where everything green is your friend to assist and everything red is your enemy to attack.
Signed,
The WvW players
PvP is nothing more then a glorified red team/blue team halo match. So…. no thanks bud
I would have paid a monthly sub up until a year ago if they gave attention to WvWvW.
I did pay for a transfer once from the lowest tier to t2 but my issues weren’t quelled. These days? I have only played once in the last 3 weeks. Never again will I spend another $ on this game.
Bad idea. If you want a reason go to the population balance thread and find anything that references “destroying communities” and why that would be bad.
This game has no community. PvE and EOTM is a mix. Players get to group and talk with their enemy even when in WvWvW. Server transfers cause large numbers to people to hop around constantly. Or, Joining guilds across servers. As a matter of fact, this MMO has the worst sense of community I have ever seen in any of the MMOs I have played.
by then, camelot unchained will be out and probably kicking every other RvRvR game out there in the kitten
Word.
I still use it. My party loves it -.-
I don’t know what this: ‘level gating’ means. But I crank out levels in Edge of the Mists
Pros:
- Constantly fighting dumb PvE bosses. So you can practice changing attunements and using your spells over and over and over again. So when you hit 80 you have a good start.
- You level very, very fast if your train is on a roll.
- You get a ton of drops that you can salvage or sell. This allows you to stock up on mats and/or make gold
- Easy to blend in with the zerg and take no damage.
- Gain WvWvW rank very quickly. This will give you your applied buffs
- Can mindlessly participate (works best with dual monitors. Can watch a movie on the other monitor, half pay attention and rank up)
Cons:
- Becomes boring after a couple nights.
I’ve leveled 6x 80’s casually this way since EoTM release. All for WvWvW so I can rotate to the class that is currently the most OP.
You can also spice it up every day or every other day and do PvP. Do one track a night for the Tome of Knowledge then go out to EoTM after or vice versa. You can hit 80 in under 2 weeks playing a couple hours a day. Use any boosters you have. Also burn guild exp banners. Note that I haven’t found anything faster then EoTM other then crafting.

Thanks for the response. Massaged it a bit into:

Unless I’ve completely misunderstood, I think the following is a good baseline (perhaps swapping some armor pieces for some toughness)
Armor: Valkyrie (w/ Runes of Strength)
Accessories: Beserker
6/2/0/0/6
Notable changes:
- Gives me a larger health pool at the expensive of toughness. This will increase my lf pool
- Will sit at 85% crit in DS and 35% crit outside of DS w/ higher crit damage and power
Thanks. Sounds like I’m on the right track.
Do you suggest Valkyrie for the Ferocity (b/c ferocity is low) or the vitality (to deal with conditions)? Since the necromancer has such a large health pool would you consider the vitality < toughness? How about Caveliers (Toughness, power, Ferocity) instead of Valkyrie?
Yes there were mistakes >_<
Well of Blood is a mistake. I wanted Consume Conditions for heal + condition removal — as you suggest.
Sceptor also a mistake. I want axe. There isn’t a point
The point of chilling darkness was for the chill speed reduction. Good catch on the Weakening Shroud cripple. That should have the same effect; drop pools then go to DS
I rolled a necromancer then asked some necros on my server about good WvWvW power builds. (Note: I will always be in group of 3 or 4 players). I cooked up the following:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fRAQJArdjk00SbRNG3wfbCchCyBIAicDCBqbjw4ZB-TFROwAjU+BY/Byq/ITJIA-w
Some questions:
a) I had trouble choosing between Near to Death and Path of Midnight. But I figured getting into death shroud for a 2nd life pool and life blast auto outweighs a small reduction on DS skills. Is this OK?
b) Regarding the rune choice: Is it silly to take strength runes with this build? Since I am not specced into Reaper’s Might and might not always be with a guardian, I’m not sure where my sources of might will actually come from.
c) I had trouble deciding if I should take Close to Death and Reaper’s Passion. I chose Reaper’s Passion for Furious Demise bonus. But, more importantly I figured since my crit is so high in DS, why not replenish my life force while IN DS. Does this work?
d) Am I on the right track with this build before I invest in Strength runes? Did I make a good choice for armor/accecories and runes?
Any help is appreciated. Looking for comments on build and comments on my necromancer philosophy.
You aren’t supposed to be do doing WvWvW all the time. The core game is Living Story and PvE. What you describe is one of several mechanisms pigeonholing you into dungeons and PvE; their target market. They must keep that partition as healthy as possible for the gem sales.
WvWvW is niche. I don’t believe ANET is dumb or ignorant. I think they made a design decision, are living with it, and operating under a smart economics policy As WvWvWers at heart, we have to accept the fact that WvWvW and all it’s peripheral aspects will never be what we want it to be.
Just accept GW2 isn’t what many people wanted it to be, and the developers have no interest in turning it into something else than what it is.
They are clearly focusing all attention on the casual-story element, and the WvW/PvP modes were just put in to generate game-sales. They are not part of the core game.
Hardcore / semi-hardcore wvw/pvp player? Arenanet would like it if you stuck around, but they’re not actually bothered enough to make an effort to keep you. You are not their target market.
You might as well ask for serious PvP-content in Farmville. That’s not what the game is for, so why would the developers put time into it?
And yes, numbers are very rapidly declining in WvW, as people are finally realising that there is no “future” for WvW, just more of the same.
This exactly.
2&3. Mainly 3.
If I didn’t enjoy it at least a little… I wouldn’t play.
2. While with the zerg, a guardian should go support or dps?
Support
3. 3. With Thief and Mesmer out of running, which will be the all-round fun class (zerg, GvG, solo roamer). Purely your opinion, right?
Warrior
Recently returned to the game and am curious if the following engineer build is viable for WvWvW roaming? I found it long ago and have had it book marked:
Summary:
4/2/0/4/2 – Healing Turret, TK, BK, Rocket Boots, Supply Crate
Rabid gear across the board with perplexity runes (or undead)
Pistol + shield
I will run either set up:
1) Duo with warrior/mesmer (I run this 80% of the time)
2) Engineer*, Guardian, Warrior, Warrior and Necromancer
Any comments are appreciated. Thanks all.
All you need is Mark Jacobs.
Stale. Nothing has changed in years.
Also in regard to healing breeze, it heals my health significantly as well as a great boost to anyone within my caoe. I actually thought this ability is outstanding. Surprised at EFWinters comment -.-
I am using Incomingray’s build:
or I use Indomitable Courage instead of Elite Focus, Signet of Resolve of the Condition removal and Renewed Focus for the elite. I have used the latter with Malendru Runes but I have started to consider this to be selfish in a small group minus the extra stability for the thief. Same mentality with shelter.
As I stated, I am typically the 3rd or last to go down at which point we have already lost the fight. I sacrificed personal cleansing, 2x vulnerablility to try to keep my group members up
Thanks agentmooncat for the suggestion
I run a variation of healway with a mix of magi and cleric armor. I try to play heal + support for roam groups of size 2-5. My weapons of choice are staff and hammer.
Any opinions on:
rune of altruism
rune of monk
rune of water
rune of dwayna
My mentality has been to use rune of altruism with the hopes that this will assist my groups in killing fast (we all know that people in this game run in globs, so if you linger too long you get overwhelmed). However, this doesn’t happen the way it works in my head. It seems as though we don’t have enough sustain if the fights are even -> slightly outnumbered. We don’t get a kill then no matter what I do I can’t seem to provide enough heals/ support to the group to sustain.
I am looking for more sustain and was curious if anyone had an opinion if a rune swap to something like monk or dwayna would be good for more regen (we don’t run an elementalist/engineer for waterfield + blast finisher).
Some other general thoughts….
I seem to give up a lot of personal survivability at the expense of heals for the group. I don’t have as good condition cleanse as I would like for myself as I invested in more benefit to the group (example healing breeze, runes of altruism— NOT malendru). My guild runs squishy classes such as thief and ranger. A typical roam would be guardian + ranger + thief + warrior/mesmer. Since I invested a lot in healing (Elite Focus for tome), I also sacrifice extra stability.
A typical 4v4 fight vs better on par or better players…
We have strong burst immediately, the opposing group drops to about 25%-50% health… then it stalls and the road to the end begins for us. No matter what kind of heals, well timed virtue of resolve cleanse, well timed elite heal #5 I can get off the fights go the same. Thief drops immediately. Then ranger. Then the warrior and I run around for a bit while we get over loaded with conditions, then I drop, then the warrior.
Don’t get me wrong, we win some— but I want to win MOST 4v4 fights Any thoughts? Please spare the l2p… Im trying to just that
Wow look how everyone is so quick to forgive. All they have to do is throw a virtual weapon skin at you all and your nerd giggling with glee.
They DID NOT solve this quickly. This was a low priority issue
You don’t owe them “thanks for fixing”. They continue to screw up. Fixing this is their job. You paid money for this game people. Maybe your expectation are much lower then mine are (actually, they obviously are)
You don’t need to thank fAilNET for communicating. After them stating publicly they were going to.
Seriously… go back and read some of these comments:
“Hey, all right! A solution that makes sense. Thanks, Anet.”
“Thanks for the reply; that was well handled.”
“Thank you Arenanet! Appreciate the hard work you’re doing!”
Appreciate the hard work? Are you kidding me? Someone else on a previous page apologized for his comments and praised them for his weapon skin.
I thought people finally saw through this companies BS. This is why ANET will NEVER change. It’s because of you all and the fact that your wooed with fluff. I hope you all know that the time and money you dump into this game is for RENTED play time. You are paying to rent your characters and play time from ANET. They are not yours
Hi all,
We understand the frustration over having to wait to receive your rewards, and we appreciate your patience. The issue was very complex, and we needed to take the appropriate amount of time to sort it all out, and ensure a proper solution. We anticipate being able to provide another update with an ETA for the fix, soon.
Thank you.
Lol an update that anticipates the possibility to provide another update on how long it will take to tell us the update thats going to possibly fix the issue…..soon.
I anticipate the possibility to provide another update on how long it will take me to give an update thats going to possibly thank Anet for possibly resolving this issue!
+1 Loved this
Nothing has changed in WvWvW and there does not appear to be any changes coming either.
Guys, the last update was on Friday. Today is Monday. Contrary to popular belief, our developers have lives and families that they would like to live and see respectively.
Believe me when I say that we will provide an update as soon as we have an update to provide. Until that time, your continued patience is appreciated.
Everyone is sick of the way the developer team has handled WvWvW. Fix your game. It’s been 7 days and counting (contrary to your belief sometimes people need to do weekend work to cleanup after their slop) to fix a corner case that should have been tested a long time ago.
I would also throw in that it’s been a full work week trying to fix a bug, when I know that’s not true. It probably wasn’t even on the agenda last week.
Season 2 Rewards: LOW PRIORITY
CHINA: HIGH PRIORITY
(edited by ionix.9054)
Give it a rest. It will get fixed when it does. The griping in this thread is bad enough, but it’s pathetic when you think that seventy years ago today thousands of men were killed or wounded on the beaches of Normandy. There’s a lot in life much worse than not getting a video game reward. If you still can’t cope, find another game that has no software bugs.
you’re really pathetic for exploiting d-day to put yourself on pedestal. go back to reddit.
+1
… and ANET is fail.
Identical maps fit this game’s philosophy perfectly: the watering down and standardization of everything (the same philosophy that brought us limits on laurels, limits on ascended crafting, soulbinding/account binding, no character progression in WvWvW, a subset of people don’t get their reward chest so no one get’s a reward chest etc. ). Anything that deviates from this goes against the fiber of the core values of the designers. We all get the same mind numbing experience or nothing at all. ANET will never give us differing maps… let alone roll out new maps at some interval.
long overdue is right
if (player.isDead)
then player.name.color = gray
this took years… and we want new WvWvW maps.
How does reward chest distribution have anything to do with going to a vendor and buying something? Seems like two completely separate entities to me — meaning I don’t believe any possible “compounding” can occur. I call BS
Go to a top 3 population server in the gold league. You will always find fights. Stay away from the zerg and you will find skirmishes roaming
Lag, months.
And as bonus, they had a whole new slew of WvWvW failures starting today. Welcome back
There is no two ways about it, 75% of the people who complain here will make a gem purchase within the next week. ANET will get paid and nothing changes.
If the TOS is anything like any other game… you are RENTING your character from them. ANET owns your character, not you. Give this a thought next time you want to blow $20 bucks on a miniature bear cub to follow you around. lol.
Good job ANET. As you keep failing your WvWvW population slowly bleeds out.
You give no significant attention to WvWvW, ever. You implement changes no one wants. You force the WvWvW population to engage in your “season”… something a significantly sized vocal subset dislike. Then you fail to properly code the reward chest distribution (caused by failure to test all corner cases… and probably related to the allowance of transfers— which a significantly size subset dislikes). Fail company is fail.
Unfortunately there will be no more significant updates to WvWvW.
This is all we get
I play thief + mesmer with my brother for about a 1 year.
Thief + mesmer is excellent. You have so much stealth you can choose to abandon or stay. Simple as that.
To cap it off, get yourselves two llama finishers and your good to go ~
We also play thief + warrior. But when we get overwhelmed hes dead and I’m gone waiting to rez him. That’s what you have to deal with when you have no stealth in this zergfest of a game
This is why:
1) Rotating servers had something to do with it; no community developed.
2) Same map for every server.
3) The zerg: the prevalence is one of the most embarrassing aspects of of WvWvW. Never have I played an RvR game where it is “cool” to be in a zerg (more then 1fg )
4) No true progression in WvWvW.
5) No way to make viable amounts of in game money or acquire good gear.
6) AOE hit cap.
7) Too much censoring of the matchup forum, then killing it.
8) Being able to speak and group with your enemies in WvWvW
9) Server transfers
10) In summary, close to zero attention to this component of the game in every sense.
Bonus: A random number generator backbone, too many currencies, time limits on craftable items, daily laurel limits, dailies to begin with, account bound/soul bound/ bound on equip/bound on acquire etc., too much partitioning of game modes and too much standardization of every aspect of the game. Too much effort watering down and standardizing all game modes that there is no time left in the work day to fix the core issues I listed above.
