kingrpg if you was to bother making a decent team who do fractals daily u can save yourself 20g a day and it would only take u around 30-40 mins to clear lvl 50
I still don’t get the animal ear/tail thing…
Now that would be a good reasson to buy a 100$ expansion, having the game on Dx12 running efficiently along all CPU cores, not the mini Rytlock.
But then people will start to cry that ANet have also to include a free copy
of Windows 10 .. because its unfair to give them a game with something that
they can’t use.Oh .. and all people who have already bought Win10 want their money back
from ANet .. lol
Yup!!!
The zerg.
This is the only game I have played where zerging is cool.
$20 and never again.
Daoc will always be the #1 rvr game, too bad they gave up on it when they thought Warhammer was going to replace it.
Ummmmm, no. Dark Age of Crappalot died cause the game was simply put “drab”. I alone took 30ish+ active people with me straight out of DAOC the moment WoW open beta hit. We jumped and never looked back. And I know there were at least 3-4 other guilds on my server alone doign exact same thing, keep in mind that games population wasnt that great to begin with.
I don’t agree with you at all. I played from 2001 until the release of Warhammer and loved every minute of it. Your friends followed you? Cool. My friends stayed with DAOC and we had a blast running 8 mans for nearly a decade. Neither Warhammer nor GW2 has anything on the the commitment of players and server pride that I saw in DAOC.
Thanks for the response. Lot’s of good analysis in your post I think.
Just want to provide this info:
Armor 2629
health is @ 14,960 with no stacks
healing power is 300
———
crit @ 30.8%/precision 1489
toughness 1709
attack 1940
ferocity 488
Build is on meta battle roamer, though I am not using celestial.
I think biggest thing I take away from your post is that I might not be smart enough with armor earth.
This post is in regard to WvWvW/Obsidian Sanctum
I run the standard d/d w/ Hoelbrak rune set in small groups — typically as the third member of a warrior (sometimes mesmer)+thief+elly trio. I have major issues staying alive through focus fire in a 3v3 fight.
Most my troubles are with power d/d thieves and the stun lock burst mesmers, but I think my question can extend to any focus fire. In a situation where I get focused, I find that I usually blow Armor Earth and Lightning Flash in an attempt to prevent cc and lock down, leaving me in a defensive attunement rotation as I attempt to kite around.
At this point, I feel that my only contribution to the fight is as a distraction. If I attempt to re-engage the pursuers, I am usually wrecked by the thief (a 6k+ backstab is huge).
For dueling/small group ellys, how do you deal with these classes and situations when you are focused? Any tips? Thanks!
I have been playing MMOs since 2001 (mythic fanboy). I have never heard the word meta used in relation to a game until GW2. I have to agree that I find it annoying.
I never played WOW. Was it a WOW thing ?
I think to enjoy an mmo and stick with it is pretty niche (Relative to the amount of people who play video games world wide)
Many of us wont even consider playing another game. For us, it is not a chore to play gw2… We always find time to do it and love it. If you have any resistance inside your soul then this game isnt for you! It should be,an easy thing man!
I did the 1-80 grind once; at release. It was brutal and took me 3 months. My goal was 1x level a day.
I have occupied myself since release playing PvP and WvWvW. I also have leveled all other classes to 80 using tomes.
Do sPvP.
I can’t believe this thread exists; people will complain about everything. In fact, I actually thought double daily fractal was a good thing…
Level 5 zoning into a level 80 map will get 1 shot. Js.
Good observation. I agree that will happen.
I am for the following:
1) Do map completion on a character and unlock all waypoints on all characters.
2) Only characters that do map completion get a gold star next to their name. This will be the incentive to do map completion.
3) Make the gift unlimited or remove from the legendary recipe all together.

Why do I have a feeling rick astley is going to swim out of it…
I have found fractals to be rewarding. I get tons of rares and exotics. If you break those down and sell the ectos the profit will be good.
Do Teq followed by a couple fractal runs. If you have extra time throw in a few quick dungeons. This is probably most efficient.
Tips for fractals?
1. Just join a pug at a low level
2. Watch vids on youtube if you get confused.
Fractals are easy and most people know how to do them these days that you’ll fly through.
I have been pugging fractals nightly since Jan. I can count on one hand how many haven’t completed in a reasonable time.
Never got one.
It’s almost like a job??
I think your exaggerating and complaing just for the sake of making a post.
I have typically run the 6/4/2/2 staff build in dungeons. This weekend I was the only elly in a pug CoE group, but was kicked because I wasn’t might stacking for the group. This got me to thinking about how I can adjust my build for the proper dungeon/group composition.
I have seen DeKeyz PvE builds:
s/f
d/f
staff
Say I am the only elly in a group. Should I be running a LH conjure s/f or d/f build? Is staff only viable when there is already an elly might stacking or if there are 2x guardians etc?
Any advice or rules of thumb so I can choose the proper build?
examples:
Build for Koehler in AC vs trash at the beginning of CoE vs bosses in TA etc
I believe ANET wants the wealth distributed as evenly as possible. Due to this and their exploratory post at the end of last year: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/RNG-as-a-concept-Discuss/first, I feel that they have been kicking around ideas to modify our RNG system. I think they want to change it, and slowly are (ie. new method to obtain precursors)
The only way I have experienced an even distribution in games is the implementation of a token system or a grind experience like they are doing with the precursors. Implement a grind and let the player choose where they spend their tokens. This is the only way to make people semi-happy. In your case all they need to do is add fractal skins to the merchant. I hope you don’t mind being a carbon copy of everyone else who runs fractals though.
The system I prefer is the classic (10+ years ago): congregate your friends, venture to kill a mob, get your prized item, mob goes on cool down. This was the old way of obtaining high end gear. Unfortunately, there is much more complaining about this method then there is about RNG. This is also a system without the whole soulbound/accountbound fiasco; a system where trading of any item in game is possible.
The problem with these new systems for me is that it keeps us mostly the same. I worked under the game’s infrastructure since release to get gold to buy my precursor; the legend. This is my great game achievement. Now, we can run around Tyria and dance with queen Jenna to get one.
It is a tough problem to solve because not everyone will be happy. There are always outliers. However, the outliers can always get what they want eventually in my preferred system. RNG and a soulbound/accountbound infrastructure prevents that.
Fyi i exclusively run 2-3 man and I get accused of zerging. JuSt give him a u mad?’ and move on.
Yes. This is the norm. Ithink it is BS that you can talk to enemies in wvwvw though. Ive complained before but youre about to get posts from people that prefer this.
I think he can whisper you by adding to friends and sending a pm.
+1. I would love a Linux compatible version.
This would entirely break my dependency on Windows
LOL. You have got to be kidding me…
In this game, always assume there is some type of rule, restriction, time gating or etc. limiting what you can do. There are so many exceptions and rules standardizing everything I can’t keep it all straight.
I actually feel that the Elementalist is excellent in sPvP. Particularly in a 1v1 situation that goes un-interrupted. Having said that, I can understand having trouble because some fights are really long. It DOES take a while to kill enemies. Builds that I cannot beat when played by a decent player: turret engi and the hard hitting hammer warrior spec.
Following is just my opinion. I don’t know a lot of the ability names (I know them by their space on the hotbar)
Some general rules of thumb that helped me win a ton of fights:
1) In general, you want to stay out of AOE. Skirt the edges and watch your opponents throw crap in the middle and blow their cooldowns. Then jump in and strike quick and back out. I usually have to allow a decap to ensure I will win the fight. Lightning whip is stronger now, many times you can hit them with that. Their health starts to drop and forces them to blow something else.
2) Keep your regen via cantrips up nearly 100%
3) Dont randomly dodge. Make the attempt to dodge a hit. Don’t run into your opponent rolling for no reason.
4) Use terrain to break LOS if you have to hit cleansing water or water breath (lol)
LB: If you are engaging him, 90% of the time they open with their knockback. Begin the fight with armor of earth, always unless you know it’s down. If he gets a knockback, TP into him. You want the gap closed the entire time. His GS attacks are easy to dodge. If he does get a knockback, switch earth, use terrain, roll toward him, siwtch to water for heal and stay on him. Updraft and the #4 earth interupts his #5 aoe bow thing. This should allow you to win most fights. If he unloads on you first and you enter the fight at less then 50% health then you gotta be real careful… your already at a disadvantage.
Thief: They hit hard. The key is to not give you back up. Strafe facing him always. When they go stealth… they typically stay in stealth close to the end. Anticipate the end of their 3-4 second stealth and either tp away, switch to earth, dodge roll etc. I’m having more and more success this way. My win rate 1v1 v a sd thief is prob 75%. Some destroy me still, but usually this happens when I start bad. If you can get them rooted, knocked down, updrafted—- especially all chained causing them to blow their stealth and bombing them with #3 fire + teleport it is too much for them to handle.
Bunker builds played by excellent players… if it’s a guardian I no one wins. Warrior, they usually win. D/D elly, a tie. But a nice drawn out fight, chained cc, and #3fire+TP, fire field with root leap, blasting fields and LOTS of lightning whips and you can outlast a ton of people. Chain cc them, stay out of aoes, lightning whips, stack might when you can usually will wear them down.
Using those strategies above I actually believe I have a lot of success. I always enter a battle confident, I strike as hard as I can quickly (while also trying to stack might) and I chain cc’s. Throw in a 2nd person and I feel invincible in my fights (yes I lose sometimes, but I am not expecting to).
Lol, if you’re looking for a compelling story in a T-rated MMO, you’re going to be looking for a long, long time.
What does the game’s rating have to do with the quality of its story?
Quite a lot. Many of the most interesting themes explored in high-quality stories are too adult for a T-rated game. And even when they’re not, they would be lost on the average player. You’ll find most games that present the player with legitimate and compelling moral quandaries are aimed at mature audiences, who have the life experience to understand the implications.
It’s not really that the rating forbids thought-provoking story, but there’s no point in producing one when a large portion of your players will not appreciate it. I’ll also concede the MMO aspect of the game contributes a lot more to the lack of compelling story than the rating. You just aren’t going to get the same experience as you could in a single-player game, where your choices can really matter.
I’m sure ANet could produce a much more interesting and evocative story if they wanted to, but again, there’s no point when the target audience isn’t mature enough to fully appreciate it, and if the game were M-rated, that would mean a considerably smaller player-base.
Many of the most interesting themes are too adult? Personal opinion.
Rating has nothing to do with story quality.
The amount of people that do not want to blob is very small. WvWvW is niche to begin with. Any personal preferences group you into a subset of this already relatively tiny set. You are playing a game where majority of people (and a game company) prefer this style of play; large hectic battles with lots of siege. Blobs aint going anywhere. It’s preferred… remember that
First you must to make a decision. Do you want to win or not.
If you dont… Do what you want in the gear what you like. But dont do the sad face if you die.
If you want to win do what you must to do
This. Post on the necro forums and tell them you either want to solo, run small group roam or zerg it up. Get the build they suggest and either buy the armor in WvWvW, get it from the right dungeon or craft it.
Save your laurels and buy ascended jewelry. Work towards an ascended weapon. Do not actively work towards ascended armor; exotic is good enough.
Use the money you have slowly been saving and get the rune set they suggest.
If you play passively, you will eventually get what you need. It isn’t a big deal.
Quickest dungeons are CoF path 1 and SE path 1. With an awesome groups you can do this in 20 minutes for 2+ gold.
Thanks for the response. Encounters would include TA, SE, AC and perhaps COE; a normal rotation for Dungeon Hobbyist achievements.
I ask because I would like to learn a new weapon set as I play on staff conjure (pve) and D+D (wvwwvw & spvp). I want to play something different
Does anyone have a non-conjure scepter focus dungeon build? Even better if there is a demo video or guide
Without a guardian for blinds, reflects and condi cures I die all tthe time. Yes =/
Yes I will be buying the expansion
I figured that I would gain roughly 60 per mat. I would still still need to acquire hundreds of t6 mats though.
MMORPGs have been a major part of my life for the last decade.
I am now 29. My father was an alcoholic. His actions ripped apart our family and everything we owned and held dear. The ONLY escape I felt I had was MMORPGs.
At the end of 2012 I had an extremely unstable living situation. I credit GW2 with being the distraction to get through that time period with my sanity. I have continued to play GW2 ever since.
Hello all! I have saved my gold since release and finally purchased my desired precursor. I am so anxious to craft it but am still stuck on the t6 mats. Out of the 2x years I have played, I have saved about 1200 gold, but roughly 60-100 items per t6 mat.
Can anyone make a suggestion on the best way to get these mats quickly? One method I have heard was to burn laurels (I have 153 saved)… but I am unsure if this is worth it. Is this a good option? Are there other ideas?
TBH the last thing I want to do is spend the next 6 months grinding dungeons as I have been for the last couple years just to buy the precursor. Thanks all
You havent updated your video drivers in a few months? Try updating them.
ANET does not care about this issue for whatever reason. They wont even respond and obviously have no intention of making an effort to fix this. This is an issue that comes with the game and we have to accept it.
You need to do The assetsrv trick with the correct ip address. It will work with the right IP.
It really sounds like an issue related to graphics.
I am NOT saying to do the following, I just want to tell you what I would do. I would uninstall then reinstall the graphics drivers. Then try the game again. If that failed I would back up the entire computer and re-install the operating system and start from scratch. This has never failed me. I have my entire system compartmentalized for OS reinstalls that it is a breeze at this point.
Are your graphics drivers up to date?
I don’t understand why this isnt a bigger issue. It’s not like this is a rare occurance. This happens all the time and we are just finding work arounds.
ANET, what is going on? What is the solution to this?
Thanks Xapheus.
However, I’m not even going to bother. After this same issue in the past and the fiasco last night I’m tired of this IP egg hunt.
That IP did not work for me. Guys/gals, it is not your issue. It is issues with ANET servers. Last night the same thing happened to my brother. I ran Wireshark and got the result from the name lookup then did the -assetsrv workaround with him.
For some reason this company will not respond. This issue has been out of control this year.
Again ANET, what is going on? Can you please update us on this situation and what the fix is going to be? This is pretty ridiculous already…
ANET, what is going on?
Yet again I cannot play, the patcher stuck at 0KB/sec with 96KB downloaded. Eventually I get a red error message.
Go back months it never used to be like this. What the heck changed on your end? I have Comcast Blast plus which is 50Mbps (Chicago, IL). It’s not a problem at my house.
What the heck is going on over there? Is it safe to assume we can expect this when trying to log in when Heart of Thorns is released?
(edited by ionix.9054)
My brother has been trying to log in for hours and it is stuck at 0KB/sec
Has anyone found a solution for this?
Thanks for the response Sovereign. Do you explicitly burn your dodge roll to gain might?
My question is basically, should I do something like burn a dodge roll when not needed to gain might? Or should I just fight and let might slowly grow over time and save the abilities never really knowing if there will be a good opportunity for them?
I have been playing D/D elly in sPvP and WvWvW lately and have a question about the strategy used to stack might.
After playing elementalist for a while, I eventually noticed a breakthrough when I began to use CC non-randomly (ie. updraft/earthquake to prevent a stomp or rez). However, I am unsure if might stacking and blowing say, earthquake, at the start of a fight to blast Ring of Fire is more beneficial then saving it for a situation like I just described.
My might stacking rotation is something like:
Ring of Fire -> Frozen Burst -> (switch earth) -> blast roll ROF -> earthquake -> churning earth
At this point, i’ve burned an AOE knockdown, churning earth that may be a better use of burst later, a dodge roll and chill. D/D is a very forgiving spec, so if that rotation IS a mistake it can usually be recovered from, especially in a 1v1 fight.
Question: Should I be attempting to perform that rotation always in fights or is it too situational to say for sure?
Hidden within all the fluff of your text, I actually agree with your points OP
Last night was the third night in a row I could not log in (8 PM ish CST). The patcher begins to patch, dies out in about 30 seconds, then it displays the message: “Connection error…” .
I have 50 mbps that is working— able to stream and download everything else just as I always do. So ANET… what am I supposed to do to play?
Long gone are the days of getting what you want when you want it.
Also, in my opinion, an RNG backbone decreases socialization. No longer is a guild or a tight knit group of friends required to help you gear up. Now everything can be done via a solo effort and with strangers you will probably never see again.
I think back to the games out around ~2001. We would spend a Saturday gearing up a friend in top gear in preparation for an awesome game night. It required a group or guild to participate. Everyone participated, had fun and knew that their own time would come if they helped out others. This died years ago. For those too young, know that there was a better time for MMOS. MMOS today are too controlled… from every aspect (non persistant zones, instances, currencies, time gating, RNG… )
