Which AoE doesnt have target limit?

The elementalist static field affects anyone passing through, no limit. As far as i know, things that enemies or allies have to actually run through/past to get an effect have no limit, i.e. guardian staff 3, mesmer focus 4, etc. Not sure on some of these but i know coordinated groups of 20+ can run their whole team through a mesmer veil for mass invis.

I was under the impression that the main reason for the removal of orbs was the huge amount of hacking that occurred because of them.. Maybe I’m wrong, I didn’t join the game until just after they were removed, but I’ve heard stories from guildmates, but I think if this hacking was the reason they were removed there needs to be a new solution to make it impossible for them to be so easily stolen before they are added again.

Hey Moleless,

Firstly, don’t worry too much about the mad people – there are a lot of threads that are posted more than once, and people who’ve been on the forums for a long time tend to get a bit tired of answering the same questions. Hopefully you can get some more good points on your discussion topic.

Now – the downed state. In terms of why it’s necessary in WvW, whether these forums like to admit it or not there is an element of PvE inside WvW, and for this reason the downed state does, in my opinion, need to be part of the game. However, there needs to be some limitations as to how it works, probably also in sPvP. Firstly, I think a normalised down state wouldn’t be too much to ask, in all areas of the game. Give everyone a basic spammable attack, like ‘throw dirt’ or something, a knockdown, similar to warrior’s downed 2 ability, some kind of balanced 3 ability such as the elementalist 3 root or even a short ranged teleport here (goes on a long cd when downed so you can stomp twice before this will be used) and bandage. This lets all classes have the same chance to survive once downed. Classes like engineer at the moment have terrible downed states, and most with #2 abilities resisted by stability will agree that thieves, eles and mesmers have it best.

Rallying can play a part in WvW, allowing you to get up from that camp supervisor that downed you just before you killed it, but it could probably use some kind of cooldown – like 1 rally per minute or something. This stops glass cannon builds pulling random environment mobs into a fight to rally off if they get downed, again and again.

Red team is actually the lowest in the tier… green is highest, then blue, then red

Red watergate has only one approach for attackers, which can be used as a chokepoint very effectively. Enemies also have to approach the gate from the red team spawn side to get in, which makes it more difficult to ninja. Not to mention, there are a lot of places, such as the stairs, the walkway above, and the invisible block in the middle of the stairs you can use to place defensive siege. Cannons in here I feel wouldn’t be that effective, as there is a rock overhang near the gate that stops you from seeing the cave entrance from above the door. Oil maybe.

There are actually a lot more places to put arrow carts at blue keep watergate than you might think – many places on the descending stairs can have arrowcarts, including behind walls, where you can still get LoS to the door. 2 Entrances to this one, through the lake and the well, but again hard for an enemy to get into them unnoticed for a ninja.

Green keep watergate I have never seen hit seriously, playing on DR, but it seems to be the go to gate for tapping – no (real) guards, hard to watch, easy to reach and escape through the water, which runs all the way to the 4 other towers, for any class.

Lower tiers of WvW question..

Yeah, DR player here – in the lower tiers you will still see large zergs on at reset, and often during primetime on some days, but no where near 24/7. I’ve had the opportunity to solo towers, single handedly take down inner and outer walls of a keep, and flip every camp on an enemy BL because they simply don’t have anyone (read: anyone willing to solo/duo a camp or check a contested objective) on. The times between primetime and these 0-5 per map times can be really fun, with 5-10 people coordinating the defense of a whole third of EB; holding off much larger numbers inside a fortified keep (yes, population imbalance is very noticable in lower tiers – 20 enemies when you have 5 happens quite a bit); or ninja capping a full upgrade keep are all fun things you can do that you probably can’t in t1-2. Skill lag isn’t bad during these times.

In terms of other roaming guilds, yes they do exist down here – in fact probably more so than in higher tiers because its actually possible. ADQQSTY on DR is an alliance of three roaming guilds that have a lot of fun, I know EBay has Echo Squad (although they’re higher up now), and there’s plenty of others across the servers.

Outer gates of valley keep in EB, on the side where the two gates are in the same arch, eat rams regularly – a problem since we tell people to place rams close to door so they can hit both.

Yeah I feel sorry for you, feeding the trolls just makes them worse – hopefully the ban goes through sooner rather than later and you can get back to efficient chat use. On a different note, does he use /m or /t? You could try using whichever he doesn’t to coordinate attacks and leave the troll on the other. Commander squads will also help here, if you can get the pugs to join the squad easily. All your commanders using a party chat would help them to coordinate with each other, and they can pass commands on through /s.

WvW small man and solo

While sometimes its nice to have a good 1v1 fight, quite often people simply have other things to do in the WvW map. For example, the other day I ran across an enemy mesmer sitting on a hill trying to ‘duel’ people running past – when i just ran away he invited me to a party and flamed me for being weak/a noob etc – actually I was on my way to help defend our tower that 20+ people from his server were attacking.

Unless I’m specifically out for solo roaming fights, I will avoid them and run from them to get to the next thing that I need to do to help my server – scout an objective, flip a camp, ambush a dolyak, etc. Fighting one player where I have a chance of being sent back to the waypoint isnt helpful to the teams cause. Your best shot for this would be to going to a map like your own borderlands that you own completely, and hanging around the south where enemies are likely to pass through when solo roaming.

You can still hit through gates with anything else – arrow carts, abilities that don’t need a specific target, etc. They just disabled catas working because they could burn down rams pretty fast and would interrupt the ram user casting/knockback anyone else on the other side. Think of it like you can still fire projectiles ‘over’ the gate or smack the ground behind the gate for an earthquake, but you cant throw a massive rock ‘through’ the gate. I know this logic doesn’t actually work with t3 keep gates etc, but its the best way of thinking about it i can come up with.

I also noticed this bug going through the quest on my new guard – i’ve done it before twice with a ranger and a warrior, had no problems, but this time the mobs were crazy. All of the pirates ran up together, basically stacked in one glob, all stopped just before npcs and buffed themselves (with might/fury/swiftness, seems similar to ranger warhorn buff), and came in to attack. They then stack fire fields around their targets, and leap through them, meaning all of the mobs have fire armor. NPCs died basically from the first leap and i had to kite them very carefully, and quickly revive the pirates before the next wave arrived.

Also should note that the mob spawns here still often walk backwards away from the camp to attack what I assume are ambient mobs – the fact that 30% of mobs were late to the party is the only thing that let me survive.

Hey IoJ – just to let you know, we had literally 3 people in the ENTIRE eternal battlegrounds map just then, with 1 more showing at the end… i really dont think you needed a 20-30 man 3 golem rush to take out valley keep, you could have taken it with pvdoor if you wanted.

Hopefully we dented your golems spamming 3 arrow carts on inner from when you got to it to when it broke

Upgrading &building siege NEEDS to reward WXP

The problem with upgrades giving wxp is people running into a tower thats under attack, seeing no current upgrade, and deciding to pop the merchant upgrade, while the rest of the team are using the tower supply to make arrow carts. Repairing is the same deal – someone drains all of stonemist’s supplies fixing a wall that is taking constant treb fire, and when the wall eventually dies there is no supply left to siege up the lord room.

Adding WXP to dolyak escorts is a possibility, as the original botting of that was for people to get the money/karma from it (spendable currency which can imbalance game economy – WXP cannot be used outside your character). However, a problem would be people running a program to farm the WXP while they’re sleeping – again, this would be a lesser problem than normal bots, as WXP cannot be traded across characters or accounts, so they have to risk their main char being reported.

So, thats all the classes, i need to stop typing now – but you can see how all classes can perform all the roles in some way, just some are better at them than others. Ill summarize the stuff i said here in case people can’t be bothered reading that wall of text:

Warrior – hammer warriors have a lot of control and can wreck large groups, shout heals provide good team support, but no where near the best survival boon stacking.

Guardian – Amazing group support with boon stacking/consecrations, can do basically any role you want

Engineer – Can fill any role you want, good boon application and some really effective builds out there, but a pretty high skill cap to do well.

Ranger – Can do amazing in solo roaming with the right playstyle, arguably lacks real group support outside of dps.

Thief – Glass cannon builds are some of the best out there with instant-kills still possible, stealth is a great mechanic and group support is ok, but they lack real boon applications and have low base hp.

Elementalists – Great group support, some of the best combo fields in the game, DD build is a great bunker – cant really pick much weakness in the most popular builds, maybe build variety is a problem.

Necromancers – Amazing aoe condition application and can support the group well, some missing links with minions and some traits though, also idk how they work solo.

Mesmers – Great solo builds and group support, can’t really fault the class – movement speed is perhaps their worst feature.

Thieves are a bit of a controversial point in wvw. Balancing in sPvP basically turned down a lot of the thief abilities to stop them insta-killing people, but as WvW is considered part of PvE this was left in. If you go on youtube there is a long video series of a guy’s montage of killing people in under 2 seconds, which is imo is pretty lame. Stealth has been a big problem with culling, but with it gone now, and the new change to stealth (1 extra second revealed) many of these glass cannon thieves are having trouble. I’m confident those good thieves will overcome the challenge, but hopefully this ganking playstyle diminishes slightly. In terms of group support, thieves have an aoe stealth (considered sub-par compared to mesmer as it basically creates an aoe target for enemies), the best access to smoke fields out of any class (good for providing blinds, stealths by leap finishers, and can really help out when hitting a large zerg), and stealth, which gains them the title of the best mid-fight revivers in wvw. Glass cannon thieves will have trouble surviving in large fights and probably end up off to the side picking off stragglers, but they can do a lot in behind enemy lines taking out reinforcements. Bunker thieves can be really annoying, and can be an effective build for a commander, allowing them to charge in leading the zerg, hit the enemies a bit, and stealth out if ever low.

Light Armor Classes

Despite the low armor, many builds for these classes are anything but squishy. They bring some of the best aoe support in the game, and all 3 are very well welcomed in all areas of wvw.

Elementalists are great in large/small groups as staff dps/support – they provide a lot of combo fields, great aoe heals, good control, and can get some high crits. D/D bunker elementalists are great in all situations, again with combo fields, the ability to easily combo off yourself, amazing survivability and great escapes. These guys are arguably the best bunkers if played well. Elementalists with points into the arcana tree can pick up some traits for amazing aoe boon stacking as well, which is always welcomed by groups.

Necromancers have a lot of dps, boon/condition removal, and some amazing condition abilities. They also have the same base health as a warrior, which means that with the right gear they can be pushing 30k health too. Minions are pretty subpar, and most WvW necros tend to leave these at home. In large group fights, and holding down chokepoints, well builds with staff can be amazing, with huge amounts of aoe abilities damaging and providing conditions to the enemy. The ability epidemic, which spreads conditions from one enemy to lots nearby, can work amazingly with a mesmer getting 25 confusion stacks on one guy, and giving it to others. Death shroud, the class mechanic, provides the necromancer with what is basically an extra health bar. The elite abilities are also useful, with plague form allowing you to run inside an enemy zerg and spread conditions almost at will (buffed hp, stability applied on activation). I don’t tend to see many necros out running solo, but i imagine to be effective in 1vX situations you would need something other than a staff build. All in all, a great zerg v zerg and objective defense class.

Mesmers are probably the most powerful classes in wvw at the moment. They bring a tonne of large fight group support, utility, and can wreck people in 1vX situations. Abilities like feedback ( a large reflective dome) and null field (condition removal on allies, maybe boon removal on enemies i cant remember) are great in large fights at creating safe zones for your allies, abilities like portal and timewarp can be used to get your teams golems right up to the enemy gate and melt it in seconds, and there are many builds, such kittenter and confusion focused ones, that can destroy enemies when you are solo. IMO confusion needs a nerf, as with the 10+ stacks a mesmer can reliably stack in a short time, you cant dodge, block or heal without taking 2-3k dmg (although there are arguments for why its ok, ill leave that for another thread). People will also love you for using your portals to teleport them through the jumping puzzles, as it bypasses campers and the ~5 mins they’d have to spend otherwise.

I’ve played all of the classes to some small extent, but ive been around long enough to tell you what most of them can do in wvw

Heavy Armor Classes

Both of these classes can be built to be very good in wvw, and can perform basically any role you want them to. Their survivability due to high armor rating is an added bonus when speccing to stay alive, and can make glass cannon variations of them more viable than a glass cannon light/medium armor class.

Warrior was covered pretty well by valik, should also mention that their glass cannon build can be devastating when working in a group (by itself you’ll die with no defense)

Guardians are very popular in all areas as well. Glass cannon guards are less popular overall, but they can be made to work and can pull out some great numbers. However, most small roaming groups or zergs will want the guardian for their utility and boon stacking. Consecration abilities, like wall or reflection or the aoe stability one are amazing. A shout build will provide boons everywhere, and the uncrossable areas created by hammer and staff are extremely useful in locking down a chokepoint. Guardians are also one of the best classes against gank thieves (ill get to that later). Overall, a great choice in wvw, and many commanders are guardians simply due to this amazing group support coupled with survivability and solo viability.

Medium Armor Classes

Two out of the three of these classes are considered to be some of the most lacking by a lot of people in wvw, but in truth all three can fill any role you want to some extent. Glass cannon variations of these classes are going to rely on dodging primarily to avoid damage, and even the bunker variations will use dodges to supplement their other survival skills.

Engineers are a very tricky class to master, and have arguably one of the highest skill levels required for effective play. As such, many out there consider the engineer to be an underpowered class in wvw, but I can tell you that there are a lot of great engineers out there. Most engineer builds I’ve seen tend to focus on the use of kits, which are separate sets of abilities. Grenade Kit seems to go hand in hand with a glass cannon build, flamethrower or bomb seem to fit more tanky roles, and elixir gun has some great team support. Honestly I haven’t really studied the play style of any engineers closely, but there is a huge amount of variety there just waiting to be unlocked if you are willing to invest the time. All of these different roles are viable in wvw, from bombarding the top of a tower wall with grenades, to laying down some aoe heals and aoe condition removal during a zerg v zerg – people aren’t going to turn down a good engineer.

Rangers are considered to have some of the least effective group support of all the classes, and with it currently as my main I can tell you this is true to a degree. Our main form of group support, spirits, isn’t really effective whekittenerg has your team covered in aoe circles, so we’re basically left to providing water fields via our heal. Pets are also an issue in large fights, as theyll be dead to aoe 90% of the time.But if you waltz over to the ranger forums, you’ll see a lot of what ranger can really do in wvw. We’re able to solo cap camps extremely quickly with almost any build in 1-2 minutes, which is very fast, and if you have the time you can solo a tower lord with the right build. A lot of ranger is learning how to play effectively – we get a bad name from the randoms coming in with longbow and brown bear and having no idea. I’d say ranger can be effective in dps roles, and with good access to quickness we can be good revivers as well, but if you are looking for group support there are much better classes.

WvW Titles pointless?

We we’re discussing this topic a little in guild chat yesterday, in a way its sad that people can’t see how much time you’ve put into wvw, but it also discourages elitism based simply on time in wvw.

Personally i can only play maybe 6-8 hours a week, and I don’t consider myself a wvw god but id like to think that I have a better than average understanding of the strategies involved. I don’t think id like to log on in a week or two and be told I can’t do X because I’m only rank 10, or hear ‘need some r20+ to come ninja something’.

Guild mates echoed the sentiment that while the best way to get WXP is just by karma-training through low population maps, its not a measure of anything more important that time spent in wvw, which in many cases has nothing whatsoever to do with skill or understanding.

I have to say it was pretty amusing taking down both outer and inner walls of IoJ bay solo – even though we lost it pretty fast after, it was worth the 2 catas i used to imagine the look on that poor upleveled warrior’s face irl when he walked into inner to watch the cap circle flip

Seriously though, I think there are a lot of people who dont even realise that there is a ‘watergate’ entrance to bay that you can cata from a slight lip in the underwater wall.

is basically where I learned about it, worth taking a look at.

People don’t really like to lose things when they die, have you seen the amount of complaints about repair bills in wvw? :P

Anyway, personally i don’t think losing points when you die would be a good idea. Lets say you have a crappy connection, you suck at 1vX, whatever, but you’re always there for your team, scouting, killing/escorting yaks, building siege, defending, etc… Don’t you deserve to be able to move up ranks just as fast as a guy who sits inside the zerg spamming 1 at whatever he can see and getting rank points for everything the commander takes him to, even though your k/d is no where near as good? IMO a penalty on death would encourage zerging even more.

KStudios, I agree with what you’re saying – ranger can cap a camp solo in 1-2 mins, and you can solo cap a tower if the enemy doesn’t check it for 5-10 mins while you cata the wall and kite the lord around (pretty similar time to doing it on my ele, if not faster). You can drop burst thieves pretty frequently too.

Problem with using this stealth as an ambush is that a lot of ranger builds simply don’t have the burst for this to be worth a lot against a decent player. Sure you can catch an upleveled off guard and get him to 50% before he starts to get really into the fight, or tear into a gc thief who thinks hes safe, but a decent player will react and the fight won’t be any different than if you hit them from behind with some arrows in any normal fight. All the stealth is doing is making you immobile and unable to hunt targets down, instead waiting for them to come to you.

The only time i could see this being beneficial for ambushing is in an open field where you couldn’t approach the enemy without being seen, and running the best dps burst build you can throw together as a ranger (idk, some kind of QZ+Rapid Fire thing with zerker gear?), and personally i think im just gimping myself when running full glass.

If its designed in a way that we can use it to our advantage, like say spying on a large zerg, or waiting on that vista hill north of SM to go contest it every few mins, id love some kind of stealth/camo, but if its focused on ambushes I can’t see much use for it in my playstyle.

Ranger Bug List

I assume what Artic Spark is talking about is that sometimes when stomping with quickness it doesn’t actually kill them until the normal channel duration has completed, even thought you will have planted the spike in their body already – you can have spiked a guardian, be waiting for him to die, and suddenly you are knocked back and have to channel it without quickness.

Now, my bug – im not sure if this applies to all stun breakers or what, but when stunned/knocked down etc, lightning reflexes puts itself on a very short ~0.5 sec cd before it can be activated (while other abilities go on a 2-3 sec or whatever cd). Normally this isn’t a huge issue, but vs. basilisk venom gank thieves, even if im expecting the hit and ready to press LR the instant i’m stunned, it’s impossible to dodge the backstab that follows the steal. By the time LR activates, im at 4-5k hp (not a glass cannon build btw) and all they have to do is heartseeker me to death.

Increase supply delivery vs other achivements

So I was taking a look at the picture, and i thought it was strange that the abilities which improve you on specific siege (i.e. the cannon and ballista ones) are limited to just those two. Is it possible that as you rank up, more abilities become available for point spending? Like, at rank 1 you can only put a point into the first two sets of abilities, and as you rank up more are available? It just seems strange that they wouldn’t include a +effectiveness on catapults, arrow carts, trebs, rams, mortars, even oil, and just focus on cannons and ballistas. And if this is the case, maybe there are other passives you can unlock at higher ranks that we can’t see yet.

What Sable said, but keep in mind both weapons have other important aspects to influence your choice between them. GS has maul, a nice damage ability with a bleed, a long range short cooldown leap, a block/knockback, and a stun. Sword has a leap finisher on 2 which doubles as long range distance coverage, an evade/poison, and the option for an offhand of your choice. If picking between them its worth considering more than the dmg output of the 1 ability

Or, you go to cap hills quickly, so you drop 5 catas at the west wall and cap it before the enemy react, but now the enemy doesnt even need to have supply to take it right back because the siege is already made.

Or your SM gets flipped with all the tower trebs in place on the top floor, guess the enemy doesn’t need to have the hundreds of supply to build their own.

Or… you get the point. Anything that is sieged up is permanently sieged up – siege despawn timers would have to be improved to be spot-on, so you can reliably predict when that keep you lost doesnt have a gate cata, 4 ac’s and a defensive treb ready to go… and even then there are a huge number of other problems.

Just to what you were saying about monarchs leap, its more than 400 range if you do a 180 spin after the first cast, then do the second leap away from the target – this is probably what he was talking about.

Personally i like GS more than sword for escaping stuff, huge leap on a short cd that doesnt require you to spin in place a lot, and the block makes you immune to all ranged dmg for the whole cast time (melee dmg stops the block and knocks them back). I can honestly say this has saved my life many, many times, you run from a bad 1v1, or run from a whole zerg. Using GS leap and the similar thing on underwater spear I took 5-10 people on a nice run from SW supply, up through the lake to garrison, back down the SE supply, and back into my spawn on the SW side perfectly safely

Had some good fun roaming in ebay borderlands, at one point I was defending our only ppt source in all of wvw, sry to those 3 upleveled guys that i stomped over a 5 minute period at faithleap, i didnt really want DR to have nothing on any map.

Anyway, went to EB, wasn’t much action so i decided to try to solo cap langor, turns out ranger can do it without too much trouble (5+ mins of dodge spam after ~5 mins of cataing down the wall, but fun), it was funny /waving at that one ebay guy standing on top of the gate while i flipped the cap.

Honorless Shaman (one of our commanders, nice working with you)turned up after that, and we managed to paint DR’s third of EB blue once again, with basically no resistance except those 5 guys that ambushed us at QL, obviously BP has some people atm as there were orange swords for OL and SM.

Did some last minute roaming in BP BL just before I left, but I was basically shut down by that mesmer, you know who you are

All in all, a fun day of wvw for me, hopefully no one loses their morale over the coming weeks of this matchup and it stays pretty similar.

Ok, ill go through the parts of your question one at a time:

When attacking a tower, you press your aoe ability, and aim the center of the circle (the mouse) near the very lip of the wall. This gets you ~50% of the aoe over the edge and able to hit enemies on it. Some abilities also do not require LoS to cast, as Haze said, for example the reflection dome thingy mesmers can cast. If you have an ability like this, you just need to target an enemy up there.

The deep targeting as you put it results from either the non-LoS abilties, or large aoe circle abilities. These can include rangers longbow 5, or elementalist meteor shower, both of which have larger than usual aoe circles. This means that even with only 50% of the aoe circle hitting on the wall, its going a lot further back than other aoes might.

As a warrior, you’re pretty limited in targeting far back on the wall. Longbow 3 and f1 are your only aoes, and you have no non-LoS abilities. If you’re taking the longbow for just this reason, you’re probably better off taking hammer or something and stopping enemies from getting in the entrance portal. Warrior ranged doesnt do too well firing up at walls. As an elementalist, having staff and the larger-aoe-circles trait will help here, allowing you to hit far back. If Haze is correct and dragons tooth can hit without LoS, a scepter might be useful too (scepter and focus would work well, as air focus 4 is really useful if you’re taking fire below walls).

Defending walls against large numbers of enemies is just as you said, almost suicide. Stand too close, you get pulled down and ganked. Stay just far enough back but for too long and you’re downed inside a sea of aoes. As a warrior or staff ele, try to get your aoes off (like warrior longbow 3, lots of elementalist staff abilities i.e. fire 2) that dont require a channel, and duck back behind cover. Other than that, get on some siege, its more effective that you can ever be.

There has obviously been a program written to make this possible recently. Had 3 rangers doing the same on DR the day before reset.

Was roaming SBI BL, came across these guys just sitting farming krait. Left to cap some stuff, came back, and they were still there. They got wiped by some SBI guys, so I went to spawn to see what would happen, they instant ported to the repair guy, fixed their gear, then ported step by step back to the same spot. Reported them, and posted on forums that they were free kills if anyone was interested :P

Can’t see any more we can do.

The charr commander would be Vars Wolf, one of AoD’s leaders with sir morningstar absent – always a pleasure to fight with him, he knows his stuff

EB was great for us too, lot of fun trying our hardest to hold our third of the map while SBI swept through our borderlands, managed to stabilize the situation in the last couple of hours. Hopefully we still have some stuff left come tomorrow.

Playing with 2 traps (spike and fire) up pretty much all the time on my ranger, idk what you mean about only being able to have 1 up at a time. You can drop 2 or even 3 traps on top of each other, and have all 3 go off when an enemy steps into them. Spike trap is really useful in wvw, where I play mostly, as the immobilize (no idea where this comes from, heard it was from traiting into skirmishing) can be used for npc/player kiting, stopping runners, pinning enemies in aoe storms, or stopping someone from entering your cap circle as you are about to flip it.

Also, lately i’ve been seeing my traps go off at a long distance. Kinda not sure if its a bug, but if I set down a spike trap, move out of normal range of it, and see an enemy set it off, the visuals of the spikes coming out of the ground kind of teleport to ~600 range from me, while the player still gets hit with the bleeds and immobilize.

I think its refreshing to see someone take the solo roaming strength of the thief and put it to work actually benefiting their team (more than usual :P) as oppose to the ‘lololol watch me kill 30 people with the same 3 button presses over a 10 minute video’, which i personally find boring and lame.

Props for the nice thief skills, wouldn’t want you in behind my zerg while we’re trying to cap a tower

So.. this thread is getting pushed further back in the forum, guess its just too much fun out in the field
Had some good times fighting in durios against SBI, you almost got the tower when Cailan lead a valiant DR team in behind you to save the day. The standoff on the bridge outside was cool too, although I wish our people wouldn’t get so close to all your SM siege.
Props to some of SBI’s mesmers, couple of you i just couldn’t pin down, and the guy that pulled 2 of us up against the door of durios with focus 4, rooted us and let us die to aoes, it was a pretty cool move.

Good times in EB last night (for me, was about 13 hours ago), me and 2 uplevelled guys holding off SBI’s 20ish team at langor for a good 10-20 minutes, your trebs were no match for the mortar

Sadly we lost that simply due to numbers, a few more defenders showed up but we weren’t able to hold you back at VK watergate. Even though we lost, the lower leveled guys left with a feeling of accomplishment (at least thats the message I got) at having fought so well against overwhelming numbers.

Hope you SBI guys got the thanks I gave your commander for the fights, see you out there.

Hey thieves – so I was just browsing peoples reactions to the patch and this thread caught my attention due to something that happened to me during an AC Explore run the other day. Playing on my dd ele, and and an 80 thief were the only ones that were really paying attention during Kohler, and on one of his ability activations pretty far into the fight the other 3 failed to dodge or stunbreak out. One of them was also an ele and decided to vapor form off the cliff into the water, while our thief dropped a shadow refuge over the 2 downed guys to revive. Unfortunately, this shadow refuge stealthed all 4 of us up the top, and Kohler instantly reset, from about 25% hp. We got back to him before he reached 100%, but he probably regen’d 5+ mins of our work (hey, it was a pretty low dmg group :P). If this fix stops this, I’m all for it

Playing in AC explore with a group of pretty average 75-80 players, me at 40, watching them all go down to a single Kohler ability cast, then reviving them all one by one inside healing spring (with search and rescue pet helping out as well).

While I know my ranger isn’t going to be picked for a CoF speed run, its fun sometimes to find yourself in a group with some of those zerker warriors and watch them wipe on things like Kohler due to not knowing any mechanics apart from how to get their CoF tokens asap.

I have to say im finding the entertainment of playing ranger better than playing warrior, and probably equal or even above dd ele (maybe thats just because i burnt out on that, but maybe not).

Well, in direct opposition to what i said a few minutes ago, here is the battle of cliffside round 4

DR pulled a fast one on the kain zerg, starting the breakout and capping the tower while the majority of the enemy were camping the west side of our spawn. We did our best to set up with only around 10 people inside, but were unable to prevent the construction of 3 catapults. The same wall as the last times was breached, but the meagre remnants of our earlier force were unable to hold back the full force of Kaineng.

DR are happy with capping a tower, but at this point its no longer an epic battle.
This will be the last time i post on us capping cliffside for today, as if we do we’ll likely just get rolled within 10 minutes

Final round of the battle of cliffside

With DR players beginning to log off, commander Vars Wolf rallies the troops for one last assault on cliffside. We start up the breakout commander and escort him to the now better defended tower. All the siege is manned, and we work on breaking the door down, while kain threaten us from behind and from garrison. We finally break in and cap the tower after around 10 minutes. Sadly at this point, the battle ends. Commanders redirect our brave soldiers to other battlefronts, and the tower is left to fall to the 30 strong kain zerg. It is unlikely that DR will be capping the tower again today.

Thanks again to everyone who participated over these few hours, both Kain and DR, im sure we all got a kick out of having a decent fight this week

More update on the battle of cliffside

DR quickly moved to recap our beloved tower, using the breakout event to reclaim it while other forces distracted kain elsewhere. We quickly overwhelmed the small troop left behind and began resieging. Kain quickly showed up, and the trebbing from garr started again. This time we knew what to expect, and were able to hold back kain at the breached wall for a much longer time. The wall was again repaired, and downed yet again, while our forces worked tirelessly to get a new treb up inside the tower. It looked like kain was stuck outside, and our aoe’ers were doing a great job, when a few theives found their way inside, backstabbing left and right, drawing attention off the breach. Soon we found ourselves forced back to the bridge, and alas the lords room was lost.

Once again a great time was had by all, its the most DR we’ve had in one place for a long time

Awesome fight at cliffside on dr bl just then

DR had almost as many people in the tower as kain had attacking, with our wall being trebbed from garrison. We had sieged up the walls, but werent prepared to have it dropped from such long range. When the wall finally broke, we were able to hold kain back using the breach as a chokepoint for over 5 minutes, until we finally got enough supply in to fix it up. We then returned to the walls to continue killing off kain, but there was no way we were going to take out the garrison treb. The wall fell again 5 minutes later, and this time kain rushed through. We held for a short time at the last bridge, but in the end the victory went to kain.

Well done to all involved, was one of the best battles we’ve seen all week, DR players really got a morale boost from it even though we lost, and heres hoping we can get more like it

Plans for outmanned buff?

The topic of fixing outmanned has been brought up many, many times, with ideas such as switching it with the old orb buffs, etc

Honestly atm i dont think we’ll be seeing a change to this anytime soon. In regards to massively outmanned servers, everyone should begin drifting to their correct tiers in the upcoming weeks – the main challenge will be keeping people on board while you get smashed for a bit, i know on DR we’re losing a lot of people because of kain.

At some point a fix to outmanned would be nice so it actually helps the outmanned team, but in the end i cant see a point they could scale it to where it would actually help that much in a true outmanned scenario. A raidboss commander with invuln siege cant help us being outnumbered over 5 to 1 against kain, so i doubt +20% dmg would help either :P

Big thanks to those kain outside OL a few hours ago that let me dance around with you after the spawn camp FINALLY ended, dodging golem bombs was fun
ALso, congratz to the WM zerg that successfully portal bombed me with 20 guys, the players sitting in the spawn got a good laugh out of it

Hope DR can keep going for the rest of the week without losing too many people, and we can continue to have some fun moments while we ride out the kain storm
