I dont understand the vendor either as it seemed each level of favor i gained the vendor would then want the next level of favor before unlocking anything. I’ll check that video Inculpatos.

GW2 releases Story Journals: Feedback/Questions [Merged]

Anet don’t do big discounts. This has been the reason I do not buy much from them as on my wage I can not justify spending the money they ask on in game items or simple digital content. If they did 50% of bargains and above they would get more cash from me and poorer folks just the way Steam seems to be flourishing on its business model where poorer folks just have to wait patiently for a bargain whilst the better waged can pay at will.

Players can essentially print their own discount coupons in GW2. Anet has implemented a game where 100% discounts are not only possible but relatively commonplace.

Ashen can you explain this concept you have invented?
Kalaris there have been a few freebies given out randomly and different versions of the game have been sold at 50% but the actual gem store items I cant ever remember given for a significant discount as in 50% or above. Turbine did give significant discounts. I use to wait for them when I played DDO and Steam for a fact does extremely good discounts.

So here’s my suggestions:
….

  • More importantly, for most new episodes, put one or two episodes in the same season that have the strongest impact on the current story on a massive discount (read: steam sale discount, 60% to 75% off or more).

Is Season 2 equal to an expansion?

If you’re looking for any real, meaningful updates, LS is never going to deliver.

You could be right if season 2 leaves permanent content but its bulked up with difficult achievements rather than much story, instances, additional zones, dungeons, fractals, events and so on.

Exclusionary Achievements?

in Living World

Posted by: joneb.5679

joneb.5679

The way I read it is that achievements will be less grindy (i.e. kill 250 things), and more challenge based (i.e. kill this boss without getting hit by this attack).

I can’t understand the desire to be able to get all of the achievements on a first play through. They are called achievements, not freebies. They are meant to be an accomplishment, a show of ability to play the game. Sure, you should be able to get some on your first play through, but definitely not all of them.

You’re also not the first I’ve seen today worrying that the achievements are going to be too hard, because you don’t consider yourself an elite player. My question to you and others like you is this: Do you have zero desire to become a better player? Achievements should be used to help players play the game better, and to be honest the skill cap in this game isn’t that high. The differences between the “elite” players and players who don’t consider themselves as such is simply the ability to dodge, learn from mistakes, listen to others, read the tooltips/wiki, and research a build.

I think you’ll find that even though hard content in past MMOS set a higher standard than GW2 it was all related to the player base and I believe a lot of Guild Wars 2 players are much more casual than ever before. I don’t mind a basic grind but some stuff in the Queens Gauntlet is far too hard. Its not just to do with intelligence or IQ or research but it can be to do with reflex simply as often a challenge comes down to accurate dodge and interrupting at the exact right time.

I know I don’t want to be repeating stuff for evermore. As I get older I want my rpg games still fps or third person action but less to do with dexterous and reflex skill and more to do with build, strategy and choices like in pen and paper.

Also its not players to blame for the direction this game is taking but Anet who in the end make all the decisions and one decision is to try and keep everyone happy. Other games use various difficulty modes and that seems to work. Otherwise maybe Anet should just choose who they really want to focus on.

Story Journal - Challenging achievements

in Living World

Posted by: joneb.5679

joneb.5679

Let me preface this with: I’m not especially skilled, I tend to mash whatever button is not on cooldown as my method of fighting. Sometimes I can get more complex and not press the knockback button when I’m fighting with folks.

I just hope they don’t tie any major rewards to the hard achievments and they are there more for personal satisfaction as I liked working towards the meta as it was the source of the reward each release. But I don’t have the skill to do something like the liadri 8ball achievement and would be quite disappointed if I was unable to get a skin or something because of not being able to complete that achievement.

Again, this is just my personal opinion and I know there are folks out there that would prefer that super hard achievements granted exclusive skins or titles.

Im worried what they have in mind is just the same amount of story as before but no decent reward but for achievements that you need to either grind away at to try and pass a very difficult test or complete a long drawn out one. Even worse would be to need the hard achievements to complete the story. That’s not acceptable in my case even if I have respectively endless time to repeat them. I want new not repeats.

Anet how does this affect more casual players wanting to complete the living story but not being the best at the more difficult achievements. Is it a two finger salute to us telling us we don’t get the content and a chance to get nice rewards out of it if we are not in that tier of skilled gamers. Isn’t that alienating a lot of your player base? I do like the idea of a replayable story journal.

The achievements are got to be difficult. But you can replay them as often as you like to gain them. So you will never miss out. His is also a good way to get people to learn how to play the game better rather than just zurg.

I find the zerg happens to me and not the other way around. Content comes out, people zerg it. I join in or not. People stop zerging. Its too difficult because it was built with a zerg in mind. It doesn’t say that’s going to stop in this update.

The impression I get is all that has really developed is its going to be little story as before and even more achievement grind except this time there’s endless time to grind it whether solo, party of 5, or large zerg. And if there is no zerg hard luck.

I’m very cynical towards this new development now and because its telling me in my mind right now that its basic end game to keep hardcore happy and caters not to the casual crowd who enjoy the story level of the game and a moderate set of achievements.

I can’t even get excited for this. One reason is that far too many people I enjoyed the game with have moved on and every time I log in it seems I know barely anyone in my guild now. I don’t expect much either from it. I want a big expansion. New classes or races. Lots of dungeons and 5 or 6 zones and I would happily pay for it instead of the minor stuff we are going to get in comparison even if it is free.

Hi OP your thread is a valid one. The reason is good. There will always be people who have such different ideas and opinions they cant even try to understand the opposing view. Anet need to know what bugs people about their game and if they are not interested more fool them. I still go through the forums but barely play the game, choosing to play the beta of a new game.

And the latter is the bottom line. There are many more MMORPGS out there right now and many more on the horizon. The time is coming very soon when the market will be so saturated we will see quite a few titles, even big ones, begin to fold as the competition will become fierce.

Corian your experience may be that you go back to games but that’s not mine, even if they are ftp. I have tried for instance to go back to GW1 but I couldn’t get that same motivation when I played for 3 years. Since then and before GW 2 I have played and left three others and I have now started on the beta of another. I still play GW2 but less and less and since Anet are dragging their feet on new permanent content when anything substantial does come out I’ll be immersed in a different game and I probably wont have the impetus to go back to an older game just for that new permanent content.

Wheres New Content?? (State of the Game) [merged]

The Festival of the Four Winds Revival would have been fine if released a month ago while the rest of us waited for China to join in. The thing is I expected, and I think many others too, that China would have brought either NEW content or at least some news of NEW content coming soon (and hopefully substantial or/and permanent content too).

Anyway I am playing two other games right now including one of the new MMOS released recently in Beta. You know this new MMO isn’t anywhere as nice looking or as engaging as GW2 on its release but it is new content and gameplay to explore and as it is beta it is probably going to improve. Then I’m also waiting on a certain other major asian MMO coming to europe soon.

I don’t think I’m unusual in wanting to do new things so Anet is seriously dropping the ball here. Also if I do like something to pickup a subscription on it Ill probably play that out so Guild Wars 2 is bottom of my priorities right now. I just got sick of waiting.

There are more difficult world bosses, a new dungeon path and some more fractals. There are also some new games mechanics put in, a few new healing skills and traits. It can sound like a lot but when you actually play it isn’t much.

It all depends if you feel a few new fractals or some difficult world bosses, where you rely often on all the other people in the region and instance to play really well, are enough to hold your interest. I wouldn’t bother counting any other new content as it comes down to a few activities and a jumping puzzle.

Not to be too cynical, maybe after the chinese release more permanent dynamic event, quest, story, dungeons or zones will be released.

Active challenges in GW2 and in Wildstar

Didn’t read the whole thread.
When everybody knows the content, tactics and game mechanics inside out and reaches the required gear or even go beyond that, Wildstar will be the same average and easy MMO as others. Only time will tell what will actually happen, but i’m sceptical.
GW2 started the same, as OP said it too. A lot of us dodged and tried to use tactics even against a simple boar and after days passed we realised two auto attack is enough.

Unless the npcs aren’t npcs but have people playing them then eventually sooner rather than later detailed guides to tactics will be available that, along with good gear, will allow medium players to beat them unless they are designed not to be beaten. If the dungeons aren’t randomly built tactics will also be devised for them.

Maybe Im different from the people you are used to but after playing GW1 for three years and then going to another game I couldn’t get back into it even when it had some new content. I thinks alot of people like me do move on forever when they move on if their new game captures their attention and imagination. I did the LA run, the Drognars run, and four of my characters completed all Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, EotN.

The travel made sense in GW1 to me because I didnt play online rpg type games before that and becasue it was a heavily instanced theme park game. It felt very much more on rails than GW2.

Then when I played another mmo without mounts I wasnt bothered. Then I played two others with mounts and they so made sense because travel meant people were often populating zones as they passed through and you could get of your mount and get involved. WPs everywhere are just ways to avoid other people on the road. Avoid events on the way. Get somewhere fast and ignore the rest of the world.

You are different than me. Your tastes and playstyles have adapted through different experiences and that’s absolutely fine. What isn’t fine is the idea that players should be forced to drag themselves through content they really don’t want to do. If a player wants to ‘skip a zone’ in order to get to a dungeon, or the spawn site of a world boss, then there’s no good reason they should be forced into making a long, morale-crushing trek.

At present, zones are fairly populated anyway and people will shout out on map if and when they need help, or whenever an event of interest pops up. Having a player wander through the world on the back of a broothmother wouldn’t hinder or help the levels of population in a zone, not in a game like GW2, with its event system and megaservers.

And that’s the crux of the issue, really: Guild Wars 2 was not designed to have mounts. When it was being developed, the staff were working around the knowledge that there would be no mounted transport and so everything was put in place in a way that left no space for anything but gimmick mounts, such as the broomstick or its predecessor’s desert wurms. Those are fun, limited and don’t take too many resources away from the development teams. Were mounts to be added in a way that’s similar to WoW, LotRO and others, space would have to be created in the Guild Wars 2 picture. It’s as if you forced a puzzle piece into a completely different puzzle.

You failed to interpret what I read because nowhere did I say stop having WPs. I ask for this in addition. By the way its not a game breaker for me but there sure seems like a lot of unnatural fear or hatred over something in a game whether or not it doesn’t take from the game but adds to it. If people are so sure it wont happen, that Anet wont allow it then they shouldn’t need to feel they need to argue that point out because they should be secure in their convictions.

To explain to people from the start I thought the game had a major contradiction in encouraging people to explore and fill out zones whilst putting in waypoints that meant once you made a quick run ignoring everything else along the way to get to that zone wp you just needed to you. There after you could then just teleport ignoring everything in between.

I have 5 capped toons and played since release but the highest exploration I have is 80% because I explored different areas with each and just ignored other areas completely because I could just run a line through to get to the wp I needed and the zones took long to full explore again. I could not be bothered exploring other areas again except until now. Im slowly, and when I can be bothered playing, trying to get full world completion on one character.

Anet wasted their encouragement to explore, explore, explore on me

Guild Wars 2 is one of the few MMOs on the market that rewards players for pure exploration. However, it doesn’t force you into clearing every corner of the map, nor does it punish you for wanting to take a break. Fast travel is a feature of the Guild Wars series, it’s also rather nicely built into the lore and there is little reason to ignore that when waypoints provide such a brilliant convenience. Waypointing saves players from having to trek across maps in order to get to a dungeon, or a guild mission, or a world boss. This is great because it means that players can jump right into the fun, rather than spend several minutes, or even an hour, preparing to have fun.

Let me regale you with a story for a moment. Back in Guild Wars 1, map completion was killer; brutal and unforgiving in the most cruel of ways. I completed my cartography in tandem with vanquishing, which, for those who don’t know, involved slaughtering every mob on every map in hard mode. Cartography/Vanquishing in Ascalon was a particularly gruesome endeavour. Party size was reduced from the usual eight, to a harsh four. However, if you travelled from Yak’s bend, you could get an extra two party members and you could drag them onto any Ascalonian map. Unfortunately, if you zoned to a city or an outpost, your extra members would go poof so if you wanted to be ‘efficient’, you needed to caravan and to complete map, after map, after map.

In one session, I completed Traveller’s Vale, Ascalon Foothills, Diessa Lowlands, Flame Temple Corridor, Dragon’s Gullet, The Breach, Old Ascalon, Regent River Valley, Pockmark Flats and the Eastern Frontier. During this time, I learned the pain of walking, the pain of being unable to just click a button to backtrack or get to a map easily. If I stopped half-way through a map, I would lose my progress on that map and would have to start vanquishing all over again. I’d also need to run through all the maps I’d completed in order to get to whatever was next in the chain.

At present, in Guild Wars 2, my Thief is sitting at 81% map completion. I might only do a heart today, I might do nothing at all but it’s likely that my friends will call on me to run a dungeon and not having to run from the top of Mount Maelstrom, which is where my little Thief is right now, to Beetletun, which has the armour one of my friends is keen on getting, will be wonderful. Not losing my progress, not having to run the distance to get back again, not halting or interrupting or stuffing any pointless travel time in my game experience… well, that’s just beautiful to me. Whether I were to run that distance on foot, or sat in the kittenpit of a charr chugger, it would still be a waste of my time. Nothing but an obstruction that stopped me from getting to the content I wanted to do.

Maybe Im different from the people you are used to but after playing GW1 for three years and then going to another game I couldn’t get back into it even when it had some new content. I thinks alot of people like me do move on forever when they move on if their new game captures their attention and imagination. PvE didn’t offer a lot contend related since release. There are no new areas to explore, no new storys to experience, no new skills… nothing. The game basically didn’t change since release.

This is actually blatant lying.
We have gotten new area(s), we have gotten new stories and new skills.
So basically nothing that you claimed is actually true.

Feel free to make that ’’huge list" of new content we had

I will start,

New Heal, and useless Antioxin heal, Fractals, Southsun cove.

Dont start them . LoL They will rhyme off a huge bullet list which if you read is mostly the same thing just broken down again and again. IE, Two jps, a world boss, a zone, 2 activities is Southsun Cove.

so wait what you’re saying is …. southsun cove was released in November 2012. The karka Queen world boss was released may 2013… so it shouldnt count just cause it happens on the same zone?

Same with the 2 new activities which were released seperately from those 2 updates.

you may have an argument regarding the jp to a degree. but then again if consolidate everything as simply southsun cove people will need to interpret that as all the content that came with it unfortunately it seems people easily miss a lot of the content that was release as discussed previously in this same thread.

Besides content is content so that huge list you’re referring to can on a highlevel be summerized as much as you want. Now tell me if I were to answer arwen what huge list of content? the 30 releases we got in 2 years. Essentially thats the same as the huge list you’re talking about how many people would that convince? I mean we go with an itemized low level list and still people try to find an excuse how most of that doesnt count imagine if we go with the high level list.

So yes Stepping stones jumping puzzle might have been released in the same update as southsun but that doesnt mean the jping puzzle wasnt new content and it doesnt mean southsun doesnt count. A new zone can be released as bare as say cragstead. No events of any kind there, no jumping puzzles of any kind just a few npcs with some nice lore and stories. It still has value and it still has taken arenanet time to first do the models of cragstead in flames and then models of cragstead being rebuild as well as updating the dialog in some of the releases. Even taking the time to ensure braham was removed from cragstead while he was in kessex hill for the tower of nightmares event. But was the same work that went into southsun ? of course. Did it provide the same level of content of course not. Thats why it makes sense to break things down to a degree that makes sense.

A zone is the content thats in it. A zone without a boss, jps, and just events is nothing much imo. The queen should have been there at the start like the jps anyway.
Activities that pit player vs player is not pve either. As for Cragstead whats the point of an empty zone? It may have a point in the future but we need stuff now.

As for Anet doing well. Im a cynic because big business is good at just releasing figures they want people to see, cooking books, manipulating. I dont think they are doing as well but if they are doing so well they make me more sick by not putting more content in. I would pay for it. Theres plenty more fish in the sea. If Anet wants to wait until a certain other big Asian game is released internationally then add content and I wont jump ship. This may be the fourth MMO ship I have not come back to ftp or not.

Im not going to sit here twiddling thumbs waiting for some nice new stuff then when some other game catches peoples eye, only then do they release new content to divert those eyes.

Player running speeds need never be affected by the way because speed boosts still allow them to run fast into battle and run around in battle, which you cant do with a mount in my plans because you will be taking damage as you dismount.

Things will need to be tweaked but I don’t see it being difficult.

Just as an example mounts could have a cooldown before resummon after you fall off if an enemy catches you. It would also just need an activation time to mount and dismount and so it wold be hard to see a benefit of riding incredibly fast into battle then having three seconds to dismount or power down or unstrap the cumbersome jetpack, fight then run away and have 5 minutes before you can remount again.

There’s no difference to griefing a player by running a monster or monsters into him as it is now.

The wurms we could ride in in GW1 were a great gimmick but nothing else.

Mob density is thick in places but a decent speed and an evasion skill with a long cooldown could help.

‘Decent speed and an evasion skill’ would need to be balanced in terms of runes/sigils, skills/signets, endurance, the related gemstore boosters and the economy in general. None of that is easy. None of that counts as a ‘tweak’. That’s a total rebalance and/or a complete devaluation of certain items and skills in the game. The developers chose to cap speedboosts for a reason, they balanced various aspects of their game around that cap and to upset that, they would need a better reason than ‘I want to go zoom on my broothmother’. Want to run fast? Buy the right rune, equip the right skill. Want to get somewhere quickly? Use one of the perfectly good, lore-friendly, game-supported waypoints.

Gimmick mounts are far, far more likely than mounts that you can drag anywhere.

A decent speed and evasion skill on your mount should not be influenced by runes etc or need not influence them imo because the mount will be designed not to be useful outside getting from one pve zone to another fast and if combat happens running into an event your horse will cause you to have a 3 second dismount activation time and 5 minutes cooldown so its not going to be easy to exploit.

NPCS already get overcrowded so you cant access them easily. A change to a label that came to the front of everything else on screen would help. Also faster travel to me is fair when a player has put in time getting 100% explorers.

As I said earlier, I have completed the world four times already and am fairly close to a fifth. A speed boost is a horrible idea and no amount of exploration could ever earn it.

The reason for this is that speed offers a clear advantage in combat, particularly in a combat system that is as active as Guild Wars 2’s. Position plays a valuable part in encounters, as does kiting, dodging and just simply stepping out of those beloved red circles. Runes and skills that help with speed are seen as particularly valuable as a result. Creating a speedboost device in mounts would serve to unbalance all of these systems Anet has worked hard to hold together. As such, if mounts are ever added, it is deeply unlikely that they will come with any gameplay adantages, speed included.

In Guild Wars 1, there was a mission, and a region, that gave players mounts. These mounts were desert wurms who swallowed toons and replaced all character skills with wurm skills. The wurms were needed to move through a highly toxic area of desert and could not tunnel through rock, only sand. Consequently, they could not be owned or taken out of that region. Were GW2 to add mounts, I would expect a system akin to this as it’s far easier to balance and design and less disruptive to every aspect of the game, unlike ‘regular mounts’ would be.

Im not suggesting mounts for combat, dungeons, fractals, sPvP or WvW but just for fast travel in the open world. Just as in LOTR when I played and as I remember in TOR as well, a mount would be like a running character with a riding animation and speed boost except the mount would have its own health and if it died the character would be left on his feet to fight or run himself. I remember the Wurms. I have 6 capped character in GW1 too.

So what you’re suggesting is a second healthbar and evasion tool. That’s very much an unbalanced, poor idea that would allow players to grief others, scale up events, hit something twice and then kite exceptionally fast to avoid damage, and obstruct the movement of other players. Wanna get somewhere fast? Waypoint. Mounts as a speedboost make no sense whatsoever and would only create a slew of problems for the developers to deal with.

This isn’t LotRO or SWTOR. This game was not designed to support mounts and were mounts added, every aspect of the game would need to be restructured, from skills and general balance to tweaking every armour piece available in the game. It’d be a nightmare for the developers. That’s why, if mounts are added, I expect them to be novelties (like the broom) or region bound (like the desert wurms).

Theres no reasons not to have mounts permanent. There is a lot of reasons to have them including just because people like them because then people may invest play time and money in them.

The reason of wasting development time that some give is a whole lot of dolyak dump becuse many if not most of the things are already there in the world just needing minor modificatin at most. Asura golems or pwersuits, rocket packs, wurms, the Sylvari leafy helicopter and even Dolyaks and Moas.

The reason of lore is shot down from the point of view Waypoints are broken due to the megaserver change and Anet didnt care about that. Also there werent guns in Guild Wars 1 and other things with the Guild War lore that did change with GW2. If you want to fit it into lore in your head just put it that the a disturbance in the land caused Waypoints to become unstable, unreliable and some unusable unless waypointing within a zone.

The reason it doesnt add anything is just lack of vision. With the variety and wonderful culture Anet built into Guild Wars 2 player characters there are many amazing creations of animals, rocket packs, golems, tunneling wurms, sylvari creations that would add a much better ambience and aspect than what is mostly if not completely useless minis

There is NOTHING that including mounts would break or hold back from development if just a little thought is put into it.

In your OPINION – which is what this thread is filled with while every one calls them fact.

There is opinion like a scared caveman trying to figure out what a an aeroplane is and a well observed, educated objective opinion and all in between. I would say my opinion is fact unless a dev spells out what is wrong with it.

1. Waste of development time – I’m pretty sure that mounts would not be a copy paste operation.
2. Lore – you bring up guns not being in GW1 – Gw2 is over 200 years after the first game. I don’t get your point of megaservers breaking way points either – I’m sure it will be fixed “some day”.
3. Lack of vision – OPINION

Give me the ability to make mounts invisible – there is enough ugly/stupid/gaudy garbage in this game as it is and I don’t care to have to be forced to see more.

Honestly if there is too much gaudy, stupid or ugly garbage why do you play? Do want to be able to turn off all the graphics? The graphics are a big big part of this games identity. I wont play Wildstar as it looks like a cartoon.

Cherry picking again I see. I never said too much I said enough. Is it really that important to you that I see your stupid mount? Does your mount have to effect my enjoyment of the game?

All I get from you seems to come down to a hatred of mounts. To reply to you though if you don’t want to see the mount and its not going to be a problem for Anet to implement then I don’t see why you should not be able to turn off the mount graphic if you want to.

The Waypoint system kind of makes mounts obsolete for traveling, and it’s already built into the game’s core. It would be useful while leveling as you generally don’t have many WPs. Once could increase the costs of WPs, but I think the solution should be do increase the need for Mounts in some way without making something else worse.
I could see myself use it for shorter distances (while easily getting the Gathering daily on the way.)

I don’t know how to make mounts practical. However their main value lies in cosmetics, which they would be great for! Their sheer size makes a lot of space for awesome details and effects!

Edit: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Why-is-almost-EVERY-WAYPOINT-Contested

Then you’d have Players Griefing others by parking them on NPC’s and preventing them from accessing bank, and BL traders.

The BIG issue is.. a cosmetics onlu mount could work…if I get offered the option of Hiding Mounts before Character select. The issue then becomes players want Visual Bling that they can show off, to show they have Giobs of Gold.." look at me In My HUGE Assed Broodmother..am I Not epic?" " oh? Broodmother? sorry dude I’;m hiding mounts." " oh… that sucks for me..I can’t show off My huge Broodmother to everyone."

Then you have " Must have perma speed boost" never gonna happen.

I did make suggestions about temporary speed boosts balanced against other skills. But seems No one wants Limits On their speed boost… which is a reason it’s never gonna happen as most players desire.

A lot of players want a perma-speedboost. Not gonna happen. But hey…everyone is allowed to want things… even the dead men in hell want snowcones.

In my opinion the accounts are not looking too good and they need to balance what they can afford to add to the game against can they afford not to add to the game. The push to sell the game 50% off and the push to sell gems to me is indication things are not all well.

I had a reason for mounts that I wrote in other threads that are redundant due to megaservers. But as megaservers have also made waypoints broken they have brought up a new reason to have mounts, so that when people waypoint to a zone they don’t have to use a second waypoint to travel to the event they are trying to get to thus paying for two wps where they would in the past only have one to pay for.

The rich lore of the game itself with very nicely detailed diverse cultures would be enhanced with wonderful mounts that glorified each culture. Each mount could travel differently but always mathematically the speed would balance out.

  • The Asura would maybe have golems that they ride inside or on the shoulders at a 35% constant speed boost and just travel like they do now
  • Charr may have actual working rocket booster packs lifting them off the ground. giving very fast 90% boosts but in short bursts
  • Norn could use giant wurms like that old mission in GW1 sometime travelling just under the surface at a constant 35% boost.
  • Sylvari could have maybe protoypes of the little plant helicopters they use in their home zone like lifts. They would be a constant 35% boost and they hover (but don’t fly) until they stop
  • Humans would ride Dolyaks and Moas bred for this purpose at a respective 40% and 60% boost but each would have a different but limited stamina that made them walk for a bit.

A player should only qualify for an account wide access to mounts after a 100% explorers on one character.

GW2 is missing a lot of my old guildies and missing me much of the time. Its also missing substantial new permanent content and missing no no Living Story or events or festivals for a long time (after making us used to having a two weekly update with sometimes three different pieces of LS crossing over). It seems its missing a good financial turnover with my reasoning being although Anet have given nothing really substantial for a very long time they are pushing the 50% price cut of the box sets and keep promoting the ability to buy gold via gems (via real money) in their blogs of recent times which I didn’t notice before.

I think there will be a dragonbash as a way to also celebrate China joining the game. I also think there will suddenly be a huge influx of content at the same time. The question is if its on a timer and how tight it is because that for me was the biggest fail with the LS, when they crammed loads of stuff into it at once. Two or three events or more could be running and you had two weeks to a month to do each but that overlapped and it was filled out by getting achievements such as 100 kills of this, twenty of that, doing a dodge at the right time.

Trying to get an achievement of getting a 100 kills brings us back to the old days of kill so many rats quests. The truth is achievements are there to make limited content seem moreish.

Dailies are a way to try and keep people interested in the game in the hope they may spend more time once they log in or stay hooked. They are a fast grind maybe but even at times when I have been logged in to play dungeons, guild missions, fractals, I really cant be bothered with the daily. I look at it and think I have better things to do.

Now in the current climate of what I consider a stale game I’m certainly not going to log in to do a daily.

Anet did introduce a lot of features and formatting of the current game but PvE content is poor. I cant speak for sPvP. The LS should have left us more permanent stuff to revisit. The crazy idea that people do content and move on is simply proven wrong by the amount of people who level alts and go through the same stuff again, who do dungeons and fractals repeatedly, who do WvW which is not new content every week just the same thing with different servers for an enemy, maybe.

The content left behind in the LS so far is not cohesive. Just a bunch of things strewn across the landscape. You can write a list of things that happened during the 20 months of LS and changes but when you play the game in my opinion I find many of them are just very cosmetic and the rest insubstantial for a 20 month old game in the current MMO market.

Im not going to go through all bullet points made by people but the whole problem is many if not most PvE players want a whole lot more new story and dungeons that relate to the new story, much more new zones to play out the story so that there is there more to take there alts through (for me new zones to level maybe a few more new alts). Some want a new race or class or a substantial amount of new skills to add more variety to those they have.

Can GW2 be successful at China?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

One things is for sure this game is spread thin and badly because of trying to keep everyone happy in sPvP, WvW, harcore pve grinders and farmers, casual pve story and quest lovers, social people and solo players that its obvious its flaw is trying far too much when its team is by far not big enough for substantial new content for every ones needs.

Hopefully the legendary and ascended grind will keep hardcores busy because the last thing I want is fresh but high difficulty content. I’m hoping for slightly challenging but still complex permanent dungeon content, with new ‘leveling zones’ and quests. Complex and challenging are not necessarily the same.

It may be a cliched compromise but sometimes the best way to please hardcore and casual are to introduce a tiered difficulty system. I wouldn’t make it tiered so dungeons are solo-able by any but the current most skilled who always find a way. Maybe just even keep dungeons as they are for a normal difficulty level and introduce a nightmare level for the hardcore and these could involve very difficult enemies, double armour damage, slow movement, even weapon damage and no repair until the quest is completed (from either inside or outside the dungeon).

They’re probably working on stuff but it might still be rough with a lot of undecided details. Some dev teams will tell the players any old thing and feel OK taking it back the next day and some dev teams want to be sure what they say is what will be. Guess which Anet is. ^^

Anet have been both in the past and its not about making empty promises to keep us happy or waiting until something solid its about Anet going from a company that kept communicating with us in blogs givingus hope of good interesting things to come, to complete silence whislt at the same time no new content released but a feature pack, a lot of which was about megaserver rollout, otherwise server merger.

How much developer work does it take to make an existing game be opened up to more people. How much more is it just language translation and such logistics?

The thing is at the release and before Anet assured us they had quite a variety of developer teams working on different areas of the game so that we could have lots of content coming out. The impression I got was they had a team working on festival type content, a team on Living Story, a team working on substantial permanent expansion like content and a team on gameplay development and other features. Then a while back I heard that they payed off people and now there has been no actual story, exploration, zone, content since the beginning of March I believe (that last piece of cinematic and content in the Dead End Bar was so very minimal as to be not worthy of counting).

Over an above this there is currently an ignorant, stubborn silence that to me just holds the current players in contempt because Anet have been keeping us informed well up until now and suddenly all quiet.

Hi Canukin. I have felt like you in the past and I havent even tried for a legendary as that is just an unnecessary grind to me. I started to play MMOs through the first GW but the thing is we dont owe loyalty to the game or shouldn’t feel this game is all thet there is for us to play.

Will I leave the game completely and not come back to Guild Wars 2. I think so because with all the other MMOs I have played including GW1 when I find a new game to keep me involved with new guildies, the old game has moved on too much with none of my guild friends left.

I don’t have a character that has got full 100% explorers but I have 5 level 80s who have been everywhere between them and I have done most dungeons but I have more to do, (I think the harder ones that I dont enjoy so much). Its just getting guildies or friends to come along when I’m available. I don’t like pugging to be honest especially if it can be a long dungeon as an hours play can be wasted easily.

It doesn’t help I also see those friends and guildies whom I once enjoyed playing with move on from the game and people lose interest in PvE to do WvW which I also find boring because its just zerging around mostly too serious guilds doing their own little GvG battles and asking others not to interfere.

I like leveling but my problem is the game is just too repetitive and I want substantial fresh story and quest content I can actually level with comfortably and not a world boss made so incredibly challenging that the game mechanic to keep people interested is to keep players banging away at it with capped characters until they can beat it on occasion.

I was really looking forward to substantial new story, quest, dungeon content and since it hasn’t come along I have moved on to trying other games out. I still ply GW2 very occasionally but less and less often an eventually I will probably be too involved with another game.

In my opinion, leveling is not fun

I’ve gotta say… GW2 has the most casual (and FAST) leveling of any MMO I’ve played in the last decade. If you find this “painful” you may want to find another genre entirely.

But its also boring after 4 capped characters

Wheres New Content?? (State of the Game) [merged]

Last time we saw a new content at March 4! Two month ago!

And it wasn’t that substantial. None of the Living Story is?

By the way what content updates are wanted for WvW? Its not like there are quests, and raids that need a story and a lot of construction to move the game along in there? The players move the WvW game along themselves.

*Anet more or less merged servers
*PvP and WvW content doesnt take as much efffort Im sure as PvE as players provide their own challenge
*No Zephyr Sanctum, SAB, Easter event or minor festival like content to bridge the gap to any substantial new PvE content even though there are supposedly teams working on all areas of the game
*No new PvE content apparently until the Chinese release
*No detail of how substantial an update although there were plenty blog posts and news articles in advance of the feature patch

My conclusion of state of the game is PvE priority is below WvW or sPvP or Anet are waiting to hit with a “huge” content update thinking that people who have moved on to other games will come flocking back because its ftp.

Gw2 most grindy game ever..?

In relation to legendaries being unnecessary cosmetic items. Well the actual stat increase and the fact that you can move around the stats on those things contradicts that. Also it IS a grind because apart from the pvp challenge of SPvP and WvW the grind for stuff is all thats holding the PvE side of the game together when no significant new solid persistent quest, zone or raid content has been coming forth

One poster here did keep a tally of his ranks but he also had the problem with all his toons just being raised to the rank of his highest toon and no accumulation:

Same issue here. Had 941 on main and 100+ on a few others. All characters show 941.

I’m sure all my characters were only ranked up to my highest characters rank. I didnt take good note of everything which is stupid as Anet and all the MMOs make mistakes regularly but Im pretty sure. I was expecting to be in the 70s.
