There needs to be reason for players to keep going to all areas of the game so I suggest a lot of random hidden treasure, very hard to find but very rewarding with great exotic and even legendary weapon chances. Never in the same place twice. Even better it requires a handheld device that cause the aggro range for mobs to double.

I also suggest mounts to make travelling around cheaper than waypoints in the long term but not as fast and with chances to run across events making TransTyria travel through all zones an attractive proposition meaning more players doing this increases chances of more players converging to do group events.

Ill keep this pretty short so I can get back in game
Snowball Mayhem
Fun but I think possibly exploitable through balancing sides. Shouldn’t offer voluntary balancing by players. Still I enjoyed it.
Jumping Puzzle
Still too hard (even though not as bad as the Clocktower). Couldn’t do. I’m not physically disadvantaged in any way, I’m not that old (though been playing computer games since Vic20)so based on this alone and the fact many players will have some disadvantages it was too hard but more so badly implemented. Difficulty levels could and should have been applied.
Bell
I’m rubbish at this too. The difficulty curve was sharply increasing on this after the first song. So I didn’t like.
Tixxs Infinarium
Played all but became boring as it was just the same basic stuff repeated with another level added.
Gifts
Fun but rubbish rewards. Also some of them should have been huge with multiple veteran or a champion mob.
Rewards
Pathetic, most of the the things that could be traded for were gotten much more easily in some events without too much hassle and they were far too simply designed even if they were just wooden toys. There still could be glitter, some nice intricate carving, more colour.
*Cant comment on Toypocalypse didnt do it
*Got two minis but couldnt be bothered with hassle trying to get more, not worth it.
*I was busy at this time and was frustrated to miss out on a lot of Wintersday but thats not necessarily Anets fault. It did add to overall frustration as the jumping puzzle and bell game required so much time i didn’t have if I had wanted to play them until I won.
*Anet needs to think does it want to make events E-Sport like and therefore too difficult for a large number of its player base or more activity like and have easier modes.

The Hardcore, The Casual and In Between

Please note if you read my original post I wrote this "This may seem fair to be people that Legendaries should only be carried by the most dedicated and I agree as they are only skins. " I am agreeing Legendaries should be only for the most dedicated player.

My trouble is with exotics. For the builds I am making for my toons I want exotic level 80 Berserker gear for one and Rampager for the other for two very different type of dps builds based on crit and condition but Berserker costs a fortune too. I will get to it eventually but I find the more gold I get the further the costs have gone up by that time.

I would happily pay to buy gold but the gold-diamonds-cash ratio is awful and additionally items like the Black Lion Chests from the store are crazy prices. Even Turbines DDO shop is so much better value for in store items. I don’t mind the ftp/sub game with a store.

There is another game (NOT WOW)I may go back to of which the revenue model of ftp/sub and shop seemed to work best of any mmo I have played so far. I dropped the sub because it became repetitive as at the time i was quite an intense player and it wasn’t as solo friendly as GW2 but time has seen many new updates so it could become time to try it again if I didn’t rage delete all my toons. lol. I’m looking forward to Neverwinter Nights too.

GW2 will always be here for me but surely Anet would rather try to keep as much of an ongoing paying player base as possible and maybe they need to think of the real money cost for shop items and transferring to gold.

The Hardcore, The Casual and In Between

The Devs I think have made the game slightly unbalanced trying to cater for everyone.
I think of myself as in-between casual and hardcore but I probably am on the borderline. To this end I have resigned myself to the fact I will never have Legendary. I have no chance. The players getting them now must be spending either a very unhealthy and not recommended amount of playing time on the game (bad Anet for encouraging this) or buying from gold sellers (Anets fault again since the cost of diamonds in real money and then transferring them to gold is ridiculously costly).

This may seem fair to be people that Legendaries should only be carried by the most dedicated and I agree as they are only skins. However even exotics are costly for me and those I wish to have are a long term objective too. Are they meant to be so costly and I don’t make gold that fast? Also reading about folks saying to buy that unbreakable bell off the tp when it costs 65 gold approx (I think someone sold it for that) sounds nearly as inaccessible as Legendaries.

However the balance in events and puzzles seems to also favor the more hardcore. The last two holiday events puzzles are so difficult probably only the top 30% of the player base can manage them. For some these are apparently easy to master but we cant all be major league platformer players some of us want to enjoy the game at our level all the same if you get what I mean. The difficulty does actually make me feel very much excluded and I’m not happy at this. The bell game has turned me off too as it seems quite difficult. I don’t know if Anet have struck a good balance here with their player base.

The Fractals to me are a joke as I don’t see any benefit doing them more than a few times as I get the impression its the same content except becoming more difficult and I cant be bothered with this “lfm fractal lvl so and so” so these things combined are again a turn off. I find it ironic in a game that has been designed to be level friendly so players can down level or up level in Fractals you must be at the correct level to progress meaning many players are not interested in doing lower level fractals and it can be a pain getting a party.

Obviously I enjoy other aspects of the game but Devs need to consider if the balance of the game is geared towards giving the hardcore player most of the reward and just allowing us more casual players to have a little fun unless we spend hoards of time or money. I would actually spend money if I thought I was getting value but the current cost for diamonds then converting diamonds to gold is just greedy imo.

The subscription model isn’t so bad looking at the Guild Wars 2 business model in the current light as subscription models I have played like DDO in comparison to GW2 have been a lot more favorable to casual players.

What makes me most sad is that I want to be able to play an MMO where, character, story and quest is king and everyone is questing together. However it seems far too many people only want to solo quest mostly and do the diversions to death.

Jumping Puzzle Feedback [Merged]

I enjoy many aspects of the game including jumping puzzles but this is the third such jumping puzzle since the Clocktower of Halloween and the stepping stones in the Lost Shores that I haven’t been able to do despite trying often.

To address those who for some reason think that platform gaming is a basic skill we should all have there is a vast variety of abilities in every individual in the world. You cant please everyone but I am an able bodied and relatively intelligent 40 (odd) year old player who has been playing computer and video games since Ping Pong and if I’m struggling I’m sure there are many people sadly and unfortunately even way below me in ability struggling so the balance hasn’t been struck well.

Also in reply to the people who say move on from that puzzle if you cant play it. I’m getting annoyed I can’t get to enjoy a challenge at my level which I’m pretty sure isn’t that low. I don’t want it to be made too easy for others just have an alternative lesser difficulty and if you feel the reward should fit then make it that less rewarding for those on easy difficulty.

The feeling that comes with being excluded to content even indirectly because of difficulty is to just ignore it and in the end if most challenges in special holiday events have such a high difficulty of challenge then I am going to stop feeling any reason to join in, try and be involved in those events just to fail again so ignoring Wintersday, Halloween etc for the most. Then this can become a downward spiral which adds a reason to others I may have to build up to me jumping ship to another MMO.

This isn’t just about me , though I’m sure many people will say it is , but I believe there are many casual players out there who never visit these forums that are also being put off by the difficulty. A hint to Anet if you want to make as many people as possible interested in your holiday events introduce levels of difficulty for a wider player base to enjoy.

Ps. Although these forums are well moderated there is still much ignorance, arrogance and offensive behavior and attitude that I do expect someone to insult me or my intelligence so I wont be visiting to read any replies to me. I’m just happy to be able to let my thoughts be known.

Mounts that compliment Guild Wars 2 Ingenuity

Okay I’ll start my post of with positivity based on reasons for mounts in this game.
This game actually does open itself up to benefits and novelties for mounts that compliment this world and game play and its spirit of innovation. It may encourage players who find exploring slow and a grind outside of their leveling of their character to go exploring the rest of the world with all of their characters (main and alts).

First it should cost 5 gold minimum and not be usable until 60th level so by that time many peeps will have a lot of unexplored zones of lower levels that they may otherwise ignore if not interested in exploration as it is right now but may be encouraged to go back to on a mount that can go a constant fast rate. Also the mount should be designed to be hardy but still be able to be taken down and it must not have a jump ability at all of any sort to be exploited for jumping puzzles and reaching vistas.

The novelty factor of the GW2 world could have a wonderful variety of mounts with slightly different stats that replace your skill bar with a few very fun and maybe useful skills whilst riding them.

Suggestions of mount types and abilities to think about and work on:

  • The Dolyak would only go at +40% run speed but be very resilient and able to knock down enemies in its path interrupting and disabling them for 2 seconds though with no damage so the Dolyak can escape an enemy.
  • The Worg would be able to go invisible for a few seconds at a time and run at +50%.
  • The Asura jetpack (which just hovers above ground really) could go at +60% faster and have a three second turbo boost to +90% with a two second splutter of the exhaust afterwards causing slowdown to normal run speed for a 2 seconds.
  • The dolphin would go at at +60% speed and its sonar would confuse nearby enemies to stun them for a second.
  • The benefit of the drake is both land and water travel at +40% whilst whipping its tail to interrupt and stun for three seconds to help it escape an enemy.

Addressing arguments against mounts

Yes there are running buffs that can be used outside cities but the best I know of is the 33% signet for the rogue and of course short uses of swiftness from traits plus any items that can be bought to enhance that from the diamond shop. How many folks buy enough 1 hour speed boosts to make a difference? This sounds all very convoluted and a bit daft too.

The excuse that some people make against the use of mounts being that it makes Guild Wars different to others is very cynical indeed and counter-intuitive to Guild Wars 2 being an innovating game.

What makes you stick to an MMO?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I spent over 3 years on GW 1 my first MMO “type” and near 3 years again on DDO I think. GW1 was my first taste and I learned I enjoyed the gameplay format, especially being able to be part of a story and also play with a community of people. What turns me off is elitism and content that cant be done unless very unhealthy grind time is put in for required equipment or as in GW1 skills (either required by the game or by elitist players). The shouts for lfg lightbringer lor for the Norn bear transformation (of sorts) of certain levels really ruined GW1 for me.

I never did get to do all of the pve content because of this and because my guilds kept folding though I did put a lot of time in.

A lot of mobs all over doesn’t make it necessarily harder than less mobs it just makes it slower and to me a grind. I can handle the mobs as I go but I don’t want to be moving as if I’m wading slowly. IMO the it is events that should make Orr harder not an increased amount of mob placements.

I would like to hear from the devs what they think about this? Is it a definitie the keys are a such a big seller?

Wouldn’t it be better to make the keys so much cheaper to buy if not drop more as it would be better getting 75 diamonds for a chest with people buying them up for maybe a hundred chests (instead of destroying them) rather than 250 per chest with people only buying a pack of 5?

Don’t they care its annoying to many of its player base and though maybe not a deciding issue to people like me who feel sickened at the greed of Anet its always at the back of my head when I feel annoyed at other elements of the game and I start thinking about upcoming MMOs.

"No Mounts" Mindset related to GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

joneb.5679

I’m still amazed at people who play such a high fantasy game like this and seem to have no vision or imagination

GW2 by not having mounts making it different from other MMOs is no good reason to not have mounts in a game that is actually suited to them if everyone opens their eyes.

Yes there are running buffs that can be used outside cities but the best I know of is the 33% signet for the rogue and of course short uses of swiftness from traits plus any items that can be bought to enhance that from the diamond shop. How many folks buy enough 1 hour speed boosts to make a difference to exploration? This sounds all very convoluted and a bit daft too

A mount has many benefits and novelties if placed properly in the game. First it should cost 5 gold minimum and not be usable until 60th level so by that time many peeps will have a lot of unexplored zones of lower levels that they may otherwise ignore but may be encouraged to go back to on a mount that can go a constant fast rate.

Also the mount should be designed to be hardy but still be able to be taken down. The novelty factor of the GW2 world could have a wonderful variety of mounts with slightly different stats that replace your skill bar with a few fun fun and maybe useful skills whilst on them.

Suggestions to think about and work on.

GW2 takes everything you love about GW1...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

  1. Well I dont know if GW2 has a more skills but the skills in GW 2 are limiting just because you cant mix two classes for a wider variety of build and many of the skills on timers seem to be on a much longer timer than GW 1 skills working from memory. The timers in GW 2 can leave me with every weapon skill but my first one on a timer with my ranger until I weapon swap which may also be on the timer.
  2. I would rather have limited crafting done by crafting npcs as in GW 1 or even no crafting than the resource grind that GW 2 can be even for exotics. The stats may not be all that great a difference but a difference they still are and it can mean casual players eventually not getting pugs if not geared to suit the more regular players. (Notably though there was still grind for resources to buy only better looking armour in GW 1).
  3. I loved the spiritualists spirits in GW 1 and miss them deeply. Rangers spirits are no where near as good or as cool looking and engineers turrets aren’t even as cool as some of the Rits damage dealing, health stealing spirits. The Rits ability to carry ashes of various uses instead of weapons is also a really cool tool to use in combination with other skills.
  4. Is it just me or are loot drops in GW1 relatively better?
  5. Heroes/Henchmen could possibly make a difference when there are not enough players for easier group events. The Guild Wars 1 supreme invention was to allow a player to use his alts as companions. An excellent idea and incentive to make alts.

I enjoy socialising with others, having a laugh as I do mindless genocidal killing. Who doesn’t? Yes we have our own guild events too, jumping puzzle sessions, WvWvW, and ofcourse Dungeons plus partys with fireworks and costumes with buffs.
