Please tell me what gear were you running to get your warden to spike for 11k damage… That is crazy lol and in PvP people just move out of the way of the warden and oh their fine now… and unless you are traited all you are doing is mitigating damage if you stand in the bubble.

Pistol is a great weapon especially for CD builds and the stun. Personally I prefer OH sword tho for the same role in a power build which I run now. It just has more utility (block->dmg/line daze) and a better phant in power builds.

I also use that but paired with the scepter… I only use the staff in a defensive based build… And as long as the greatsword is major suckage atm this seemed like the next best option especially since the fixed the range on the very powerful blocks

And how many teams do you play against that run 2/3 BS thieves? Thieves are so snarked on right now noone has given them a chance… Burst thieves are still top dogs depending on how many are on the team. And they are the main reason people started running hardcore bunker builds.

Something else that would be very cool… I must agree… Thanks for the responses guys. They are really helpful on peoples opinions. I love my pistol and I honestly change my weapons/builds multiple times a day depending on where I am and what I am doing. But I was just curious as to why more people don’t use them as often. If mesmers got the passive speed buff I think more people might also use the pistol over the focus in certain scenarios.

I do too… And I completely agree that weapons have their really good situational uses. Focus is great for sieges and the swiftness to pull people off walls. Not to mention if it is traited the damage from reflects is great. I actually run scepter sword for the non-defensive type builds and use runes of centaur so speed uptime is not as big of an issue. I just like the pistol for duels and the insane stun lock… In group situations or condition builds I go with focus or torch for the other off hand…

You can still have high damage with the pistol and the base cooldown matches the CD of the warden when traited. Plus the stun-lock from magic bullet is amazing… I am just shocked as to why noone uses it… I have found it more useful against pesky thieves and warriors.. Even had one warrior gripe saying “I hate dueling you that stun lasts way to long” I love the focus and the torch sometimes lol… But the pistol is just so fun even with the bugged range. (still not as bug as the mage which your lucky if it even hits)

The video is pretty obvious as to what the bug is… There is no doubt that it is hitting far less than it was pre-patch.. The tooltip still states that the attack should hit multiple times… Our swordsman and duelists can still hit for 5k per attack and this weapon not doing such is a bad thing.

And also the iZerkers hit multiple times per attack! THEY ARE DESIGNED TO! But they are not! So this means it is a bug! It is making one of our most powerful phantasms a complete joke. Which is not okay. Imagine how kitten a warrior would be if their 100B hit only once. Or their whirlwind hit only once.

As the thread states just wondering this… I have tried out several builds and nearly every weapon set/combo…. But I see few of the people that make builds and guides use the pistol in their weapon set… Even untraited this is a great weapon…The CC is also amazing… You can get a 2 second stun lock which is an eternity in a fast paced match… So just curious… Why do less people use the pistol as an off hand that what it seems? Pistol coupled with diversion and the offhand daze from a sword in the other set can keep an opponent completely shut down for the majority of a fight.

They just want all mesmers to spam gs/staff, sword+pistol/gs or sword+pistol/staff… Scepter is useless, Torch is laughable (was sooooo good when bugged tho…)

Currently the GS is a total joke. iZerker hits for a whopping 1k and misses 3/4 of his chain… Right now a good combo I am running is scepter/sword sword/pistol tis a good combo in lieu of the GS being useless currently. And actually quite fun in WvW as you can still stack a good amount of confusion

And I am really curious as to what made you wipe in Arah path 4. With 5 bunker in the group, it could only possibly be a major epic missed dodge that happened to all 5 party members during Lupicus, because there is absolutely nothing else that could possibly make the whole party wipe during the whole instance except for that.

I think what had happened is we got split up on the path to one of the bosses (the lyssa one I believe). But beyond that the entire dungeon was a breeze… DPS sucked but the joke of the group was “Hey we don’t have enough boons.” “Yeah I think we really need more boons.”

Play a thief I’m guessing? I have not once made a single attack at you but buddy you deserve it seriously… Yes this is a glaring issue like it or not…. And it has already been shown that one hasted thief can still melt through a bunker guardians defenses in seconds flat. And its kinda hard to go help your team mate if you are being held up by one of the other thieves (by that I mean killed coming right out of your gate.) A team with 3 insta kill thieves and two bunkers is far more deadly than any team of multiple bunkers and balanced specs.

As i said before, try to read before posting, i stopped playing thief in tpvp cause mesmer brings much much more to the team….an hasted thief can melt only through a brain dead bunker guardian, and you have not to use a single skill, cause pretty much everything you would press could ruin a backstab combo…i don’t know one single bunker guardian who would go down vs a backstab thief, no way…maybe vs a condition one on the long run, but a bunker guardian just laughs at glass thieves, even at two of them…and again, a thief can istant gib only other glass cannons…if they managed to oneshot everyone in your team, including your bunker…well, believe me…time to change team…

If this bunker is already tied up with the other bunker then yes it can and will happen. The team composition we ran was a d/d ele bunker guard, bunker ranger, minion necro, and a shatter mes… the opposing team was 3 thieves a bunker guard and one ele… The thieves instantly melted through the balanced specs we had and were able to gang up on the bunker guard and after the ranger.. .I don’t care how you say it thieves are not fun to play against and the 3 of them bring more to a team in terms of pure deadliness this is not balance.

In your described scenario you didn’t factor in the other remaining players, they are suppose to come for support.

And by the time they get there? Not everyone is as fast as a thief or a d/d ele or a GS bulls rush warrior. What if its at the 8:30 mark and the buff needs to be grabbed… There are glaring issues here. And before people go off on how bunkers should handle this or that extremely well the biggest reason for bunkers is BS thieves.

Why? Because you can’t fight back if you are dead… 2thieves vs 2 anything else is a night mare… People that say thieves are a joke in high tier pvp are delusional and most likely play thieves.

I think you’re confusing with eles…actually a decent bunker guardian or ele can handle even 3 glass thieves at once, vs 2 you don’t even need your 6 (Talking bout guardian)…you can just block, evade and knockback them…and once they miss the combo they can do pretty much nothing for 45 secs…or you can spec retaliation and let them kill themselves..

So you have the one bunker guard on your team… And yes it was 3 thieves and yes that team destroyed us.. Why because they had 2 other bunker specs… So say the bunkers are hashing it out here comes one of the 3 thieves kitten he is at half health oh hey steal is of CD lemme just handle this mug+cnd+bs+hs haste combo.. yup he’s dead okay I’m off to go insta kill one of the non glass non bunker balanced builds that is trying to back cap temple or altar…. Glass thieves can cap points if they have the people killed around them… And lets say you go to help your bunker guard and the other teams other thief comes to help out two… Then you have one bunker one balanced against one bunker one glass… The glass will take you down and stomp you especially if the bunker is still tied up by the other bunker… Or the bunker will try to res you and this will then become a bunker/glass combo vs a bunker that is not fighting back.. How fast do bunkers last when they don’t fight back? Yeah thought so.

I’m gonna miss Maguuma’s duelers, specifically those from [iLL].

I know! I LOVE DUELING! And its way more fun in WvW than in PvP. Why? Because there are more variables more things to account for! It’s awesome… And it really helps in seeing the cross server enemies as other players and not just invaders. (Yes when the match up first starts I do my part but by day 3 it is pretty clear who the top dawg is gonna be for the rest of the week!)

Ohwell, if you dont want to get the point we can argue all night. I can tell you that a color is green, and you could answer me the its not blue… we are both right but you are not understanding what Im trying to say.

All my years playing mmorps ive heard that Guildwars 1 was a pvp focused game. I cant say that about Gw2, even if that is not a bad ting i just think that there are so many old games that managed to get the balance better then Gw2 right now.

Hopefully it gets there… But there are glaring polarities right now (thieves, d/d eles, trap rangers) Hell even some Mesmer builds are now the only viable ones because ANet destroyed stuff for them AGAIN.

Dude seriously? yeah that thief is on it.. He knows how easy they have it… I will say though that because of threads like this there are a lot of people that make thieves to get them to 80 (however they can) come to WvW and just suck…You can tell bad thieves that have no clue how the class mechanics work to okay thieves that will prolly get the cheap shots off… From the really bad thieves that are 1hkos. There are few classes that can deal with thieves easily… Some bunker guardians, d/d ele’s and a couple Mesmer specs… Every other class is essentially shafted no matter what spec they run… This is not balance. And honestly I would rather see WvW as an eSport before sPvP cuz sPvP is a flat joke.

This is a modified version of a build I used to use in sPvP, back when iWarden whirled forever with Phantasmal Haste. It was very fun(ny) to use against any projectile based enemy: just stand in iWarden and watch them shoot themselves to death.

I later used a version that used Power-Toughness-Vitality instead as Healing Power didn’t seem that helpful (at the time Phantasmal Healing only really worked on iDuelist), but now seems a good time to go for it again.

Mantra of Pain is optional, I only took it because it seemed like a waste to take two Mantra traits for Mantra of Recovery only. Use it for some emergency healing if Recovery is not available/enough, I dunno. Could probably be better replaced with Decoy.

There aren’t any glaring problems with it I suppose. It just seems a little…confused.

You seem to have gone 30 into Dom purely for (let’s face it) one skill. You also have a lot of phantasm damage adds without either of the 3 optimal phantasms for general damage dealing (sword, pistol, gs). Also, you have these damage traits, but no crit chance or damage; which severely limits the amount of damage you can unload.

It just seems to be stuck between a phantasm damage build and a defensive healing bunker, but without the necessary weapons/stats to really do damage, and lacking some of the defensive capability from the other side.

I guess it’s just really unclear what you designed this build to do.

A variation I do to this build at times is take the twenty from chaos into dueling… The only real similarity to the build is the COF grants retal and the 20 insp for wardens feedback (this is such a fun weapon traited). Upside is the power is still relatively good and the phantasmal fury trait is there… Then I drop staff and use scepter/sword… Its a fun build if you like to be a little harder to bring down but just can’t step away from having a bunch of shatters. Really fun IMO… But the base build is a good start and is really fun to bring down most professions/builds.

Usually more than one guardian means twice as long bosses fights.

But also greatly increases group survivability.. Fast boss fights are great til your group of glass cannons is wiped and you have to start over.

I enjoy it mainly because I have a static team that I play with on a nightly basis. No need to LFG or deal with PuG drama. Together, we find new ways to clear the dungeon, mess with team comps, learn more about new professions in the dungeon environment, etc. We try to help everyone get what they need from their dungeons and try to teach our new players. While I think the dungeons could use some reworking, I’m fine playing them while I wait for the changes.

Here is a hint… I am a firm believer now that ANet want’s nothing but bunkers to run their dungeons… I did arah 4 (last path of last dungeon in the game and crazy) with 3 guardians, a d/d ele and me in my bunker mes set up… We wiped I would say once… Doing dungeons in pick up groups has its ups and downs… Some are still like “Really they expect us to survive this?” but our group usually gets through.. I run HOTW all 3 paths a lot and they are a breeze (except for mobs right before final boss in path 3… Anet kitten?) but seriously question your team composition before you go into the dungeon… Ask the people how much toughness they have (dead serious do it the same way people do for AR in fracs). This is my new personal tier list and it’s more focused on Class Use and the new Map.

Tier S
- Elementalist – Reason: Some loss in bunkering / dps viability (correct me if I’m wrong).

Tier A
+ Mesmer – unchanged.
Ranger – unchanged.
Guardian – They feel more useful as something other than a point defender (orb carrier).

Tier B
=Necro – Lots of bug fixes, but lacks mobility. Great in teamfights.
=Thief – Mobility + orb carrier burst is fantastic on SW.
=Engineer – 100n slight nerf, but I’ve seen some promising up-coming builds.

Tier C
+ Warrior – Reason: mobility + lockdown mechanics are a godsend in the new Map.

Did tPvP last night with the beserker’s amulet and jewel and sup sigil of force… with centaur runes (all adding to damage) and took the phantasmal fury trait… and yeah… hit for 1k on attacks if it hit at freakin all.

so why should a fire and forget NPC deal the same damage as a warrior that has to go in?

Because its the same attack! Warriors have higher armor. Also how much does whirlwhind hit for? If its anything like our iZerker used to do it hit for around 5-6K on crits… Which is extremely fair considering that we have absolute joke for AOE damage and this was our best way for tagging mobs in DE’s and in WvW. Cuz chaos storm does absolutely joke damage.

In pvp… My zerker hits for freaking 900 maybe 1k… This is with me with the zerker jewl and amulet and the phantasmal fury and greatsword trait… I REALLY WISH I COULD HAVE FAITH IN HOW THEY DO STUFF…. but I can’t because they can never touch something on us with out kittening something else up worse… I mean REALLY? how do they do this.

They already have a 3 second debuff… Culling takes effect here… I think the debuff should apply whether they cause damage or not.. This would make them choose wisely before they started using stealth…

Hardest to Kill: Stealth Spamming Thief; Bunker D/D Ele

Most Likely to Kill Me: Necromancer (Without any condition clearing skill on my typical skill bar I can easily find myself loaded down with lethal stacks of conditions if I make a mistake).

Easiest to Kill: Staff Eles, Warriors, Rangers, Other Mesmers, GC Thieves

On a related note, anyone else notice a severe lack of competent mesmer fighters/roamers/duelists out in WvW? Most mesmers I run into are pathetically easy to kill and have no understanding of their class. For perspective, I’ve spent most of my WvW time in Tiers 1-3 so I believe most people are running Portal/Veil bots.

What server are you on. I am in DB and I love dueling… Don’t consider myself good by any means. I win some I lose some but if you are ever in tier 3 (where DB lives) you may find yourself against me or pyro.

If your talking about Shadow Refuge and putting it in the elite skill, I personally would see this as a buff to thiefs, even if the CD duration was increased. I don’t use it often enough to warrant its short CD at present and its quite well countered by alot of classes IE guardians can pull you out, Necros can fear you out, Eles can AoE you, warriors can knock you out etc etc. And yeah, Im aware im agreeing with you

Absolutely, i know it would be a “buff” but tbh that’s the right thing to do. I don’t want the thief class to be nerfed to the ground, i want this game to be balanced and fun to play for everyone. Sr as elite would promote more setup variety since atm it’s pretty much a must in wvw.

This is a L2 kitten ue for everyone whining. I almost never lose a 1v1 fight against a thief in wvw. ( I play a mesmer ) Every class has his own tactics to defeat a thief, if you don’t what they are, then just ask a thief friend to duel you and you will find out eventually.

for example, me as a mesmer, whenever a D/D thief stealths, I just dodge, decoy = stealth for me and 2 clones up, so he wastes his backstab on my clone, or he pops out of stealth searching for the real me or I just pop my invulnerability, F4 or #2 on sword, and yet again he wastes his backstab or heartseeker spam. Or I can blink/phase retreat#2 staff, away, so he can never reach me. It mostly never comes to this since glasscannon thieves are so weak I mostly one shot them, but when I screw up my chance to one kitten him, look above, 3-3-2-mirror images-decoy-F1 with sword main hand. Even if the thief uses stealth, he will still be immobilized and I still can use all of my skills to hit him since its AoE.

When the thief uses shadow refuge, I just blast him out of it with GS #5 or pull him out with focus #4. Not a problem there.

Lol a mesmer. A class based on npcs to do most of its dmg. A class with multiple teleports and stealths available while being free to simply smash buttons and stay at range while your clones do all the job. Ok. Ofc is hard for a thief to beat a good mesmer 1v1.

And when thieves get in trouble and need an OH kitten button? They pop thieves guild NPC’s that out damage mesmers NPCs and have way more CC between their blinds and scorpion wire… All while having to deal with trying to relocate the real thief. Mesmer v Thief is an annoying fight to be sure… But go to your dueling arenas in WvW (every server has them I’m sure) look at the class that is there most… It’s thieves look at the class that wins most of its duels… Thieves. Now not saying all these thief players are playing an OP class some of them are actually quite good. But most of them just open the fight up with a cnd+steal combo (where you start cnd and hit steal by the time cnd has finished you have a 7 k mug and 3-4k cnd) and this is all using power toughness vitality armor… Arguably the most balanced armor set in the game. So the last thing we need told is to get more toughness. These two buttons will drop someone to half health… Pack a stun break you say.. Okay lemme pop my stun break dodge heal up oh man the thief just cnd off my clones lemme block.. OKay block worked but he didn’t break stealth… Thieves get no punishment if they screw up their burst… Every other class does… Thieves also get the bets bonuses when it comes to their class mechanics.

WvW stealth needs fixed… Freaking mug needs to be grand master… I am sorry getting a 7k bonus in steal should not be in an adept tier.

Well now that we know the big issue with iLeap I definitely agree that it needs a redesign… Since it is supposed to be instant-ish any way we can just get it to drop on target and cripple then swap… I mean staff phase retreat has no trouble with the z axis and blink really doesn’t either… So change the coding to the skill completely maybe? idk how possible that is.

A good idea someone suggested a while ago would be making c&d usable only on the back of the target. Also c&d shouldn’t activate on mobs in wvw (this includes ranger pets). Also they should remove thieves guild (“omg i suck so i call 2 npcs to help me”) and make sr an elite skill. It’s way too good to be an utility.

I would be okay with this change. It would make S/D much more viable than typical builds, considering immobilize on IS would be a good lead-in. However, it would have to do more than just damage in the case of a frontal attack. Maybe trigger a small aoe blind instead of stealthing so you don’t completely waste your initiative.

As for thieves guild, I’m not entirely sure how you think it is OP, they do very little damage and I only use them for blind/pull, and very rarely. Anyone would ditch it for SR tho, and honestly I’d prefer it as an elite anyway, so I’m all for it, room for another more practical utility.

One more suggestion that kinda grinds my gears would have to be stealth attacks and positioning… D and S need to be in melee range and from the rear to grant any benefit (worthwhile benefit, anyway.). P on the other hand can be triggered from melee to 900 range, from front back and side to side… Feel that is a little lame, and I think there should be some positional consideration to that spec.

The issue that I really have with thieves guild is just how much more control they give the thief… one is constantly blinding you the other is constantly pulling you, add to it that they actually do have decent damage not as much as a thief but it still makes a dent and a high rate of attack it makes fighting a thief even more chaotic and troublesome…. People could say look at Mesmer phantasms… Mesmer phantasms attack more slowly than thieves guild and have absolutely no CC. And Mesmer clones while they look like the Mesmer are just shatter fodder (our only burst source) and do no real damage… The thing that thieves guild does is it gives the thief an advantage that is comparable or even better than timewarp (looking at it in 1v1 since that is what most people here keep griping bout.) If shadow refuge were made an elite (something I wish they would do with portal!) then give it a couple extra buffs aside from longer stealth… idk what that could be but right now nothing is more frustrating than having a thief in shadow refuge with no way to pull him out right then and then when thieves guild comes out you have to deal with that and still aren’t sure where the thief is…

This completely destroys any shatter burst combo as it was already buggy to begin with.. The fact that it no longer cripples means that they obvious animation is just a huge cue to get out of the way.
