Gliding in Tyria, while fun, is really of no use other than promoting HoT to the F2P masses.

Why I think HoT failed

The video posted by OP was great. I found myself nodding to most of it.

I agree that many wanted increased difficulty of game-play offered by HoT. But, many wanted more exploration in the style the game started with. We were told many times in the press-releases “The journey is the destination”, but the new game content offers extended grind time to access the ‘very brief’ extended journeys.

FWIW – “Reduced memory usage in the 32-bit client and the Mac client.”

Does not say, better use 32-bit instead of 64 because the 64 is not as well tested.
It also does not say, that the memory issue was fixed.

I would expect a beta release to also be your best work that has not been field tested.

The slow download issue was only present on my Windows 10 system using the 64-bit client. My Windows 7 system downloaded normally with the 64-bit client.

I’ve only been hearing about the 64-bit client through word-of-mouth. I experienced the improved gameplay during extended sessions of HoT content play.

Can someone put a sticky in the forums about the 64-bit client and the related memory management issues so there is a definite place to look for official information ?

Maybe something about the latest connection issues could be said too . .

We need some Anet follow-up on these 64-bit issues

First. A 64-bit client is offered as a fix for memory issues that should have been noticed with 32-bit testing before HoT release.

Next, I’ve read about issues with initialization differences between 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Why was this not noticed in more recent testing?

Now, the 64-bit client performs drastically different than the 32-bit client when processsing mundane updates. I reported this before and of course, no follow-up other than the bot-like response to run the game environment scanner. I know better that to expect feedback. It’s been a month now and the problem is still present.

I work in the programming field. You have had a VERY stable product until HoT was released. Your QA department needs to add more testing to your release cycle. I always liked challenge when programming for a job. But, when I want to relax with a game, I get annoyed to find repeated bugs that, I feel, should have been noticed by someone before we report it in the forums.

Please light fires, send up flares or whatever is needed.

@alleriaphython, thanks for the post.

I thought the game was ‘down’ ~again~. The 32-bit client worked nicely to grab the update as you mentioned.

Anet – the 64-bit bandaid needs to become part of your testing pool until you fix the memory issues. PLEASE.

The key to this would be that I could ‘subscribe’ to the top ‘/blockees’ submitted by other players.

The player would not be blocked from map chat unless they hit a really high count.

Many of us like and encourage the Anet brag “we have the friendliest community”.

With the addition of f2p, I know we’ve all thought about the quality of the community chat such as map chat. They’ve added a few safeguards to help keep new players from poisoning the quality of chat. Map chat is our main way of asking for help, expressing excitement from a good drop, getting assistance or just having random fun.

I enjoy being able to start a random conversation while mapping or farming. That’s what MMO’s are good for. I often find a good conversation is just waiting for a fun comment to get it started. There are a few that feel the need to insert rude, obnoxious and even foul language into the mix. My options are to then party the people I was chatting with – if possible, /block the irritant, continue in whisper or walk-away.

In LA and other hangouts, the idlers are often more toxic than in the non-city areas. I’ve found that by blocking the mouthy or foul ones, the chat is often pretty good quality. I’d hate for our map chat to go the way Trade and Map chat went in WoW.

The other night I thought it would be a nice feature to have escalating penalties for map chat abuse. We would be our own judges based on block list hits against an individual.

With a tiered approach, when the first tier is hit (say 20 blocks) the player would get some restriction such as: one chat per 5-10 min in map for a week. The next tier would be longer and last longer. Higher tiers would be more severe such as blocking map chat totally for a week and up to a month. (You could take a peek at the current blocklists and see how many players have a high tally)

The feature could be a checkbox near the profanity filter checkbox and could be an opt-in for interested players. Plus, upon reaching a tier, the offending player would get an in-game notice that they have been restricted, how and why.

For example, if I opt-in, I would no longer see any messages from that person until their time period has elapsed. That way I would benefit from /blocks that other people have submitted.

I enjoy MMO gameplay, but the verbal abuse from other players in unnecessary and detracts from the enjoyment. Even when I’m a bystander.

New players have commented about wondering about the so-called friendliness. I encourage them to continue asking questions, if needed I coach them on asking good questions and looking at the /wiki first when they can.

I hope this might stir some future improvements along this line of thinking. Maybe instead of restricting map chat, you could add another chat category that is restricted along these lines.

I’m hoping you can create something along the lines of the Code of Conduct required for the forums that is policed by the players.

I got a few 400 errors, instead of 404 for some items. I checked in-game using the item title and find that the black lion listing progress keeps spinning and doesn’t load the buy/sell listings for the same items. “Fur-Lined Helm” lvl 20(3954), for example. The description does show in game like it does from the items api. ( item ids 3954, 3955, 3956 ) all behave the same way.

Perhaps there’s an inconsistency in the database somewhere . . .

Is this the proper venue for these observations ?
