Thanks.
I had neglected going back until my masteries were higher.
Some rebalance is needed. Playing south lane, the Tag(leader) didn’t explain the needed things. We wasted an entire DS cycle trying to finish. The next cycle, a better leader ( and the questions asked during the first failure) help us have a fast completion on South.
It is too dependent on ‘good players’ announcing the requirements to the group. Next time, I won’t be a newbie at south, but the issue will remain. The fight mechanics should mention the requirements, since the humans don’t do it reliably.
In VB and AB, I’m experienced. Beyond shouldn’t be so secret . . .
Simple things that are useful for playing an RPG using GW2. \
Backpacks, candles, rope . . . etc.
Hi I am a returning player with no expansion. I am going to buy it if i run out of content. But the ascended items are too much of a temptation. Just wondering if the expansion helps in acquiring ascended weapon/armor. Thanks.
I don’t think so.
The mats for ascended armor (metals) come easily from SW and lower. The other ascended complete mats require a lot of -liquid- gold. It’s just the nature of things. If you can find a gold generating source (like iron/platinum-farming), you can buy the other ingredients for ascended armor.
Be sure to buy an invisible bag (or equivalent) for the last bag in any toon. It will hide any gear you have placed in there.
Simply, better to buy HOT now if you plan on playing GW2 for a while. You can catch up with the mastery experience, but you miss out on the exploration of the HoT maps that teach(force) you to play stronger. The upcoming maps won’t relent on this.
Enjoy the game we’ve been playing for almost 4 years. Beautiful, challenging and busy at the high-levels. Some days I play actively, some days I just gather and craft the dailes, but I keep going because it is fun. AND it is not bad to catch up to the long-time players.
The deprecation come from finishing the DS map, but finding the target has moved.
The scuttlebut, was to make it easier.
EDIT: since the issue was clarified, I’d like to point out that the Wyvern location change was not mentioned in the patch notes as far back as June. So, imagine my surprise that map chat tells me that it has a new location . . .
I will deal with it. This is just a Point of Order. (against previous statements)

You can get Berserker armor in Orr for 240,000 Karma for 6 pieces. It’s high for new comers, but cheaper than the gold needed.
I use this on my newbs to save $$$.
You can always just try out the profession. As long as you don’t leave the Silverwastes map that it sends you to the boost to 80 is temporary. Try one then the other and decide.
This the best reply.
I had one of each at 80 before the HoT launch. So, I used it just to gather gear for my revenant.
The 80 boost adds a lot of pressure to deside NOW. Remember Chad’s reply above.
I think weapons are worth the boost, armor – not so much.
I made a set of asc armor for my fav and it wasn’t such a big deal. BUT, I will get to add more infusions for AR.
This toon will now be my fractal toon. Unless something changes, I won’t make another set of ascended armor.
Ascended weapons are still attractive.
I found that HoT -FORCED- me to upgrade my game-play. Since I play to relax, I usually pass on HoT Maps. BUT, they are a reasonable extension of game skills. There are kiosks to practice basic skills in HoT. Use them to get better. I hate the ‘GET GUD’ phrase, but that’s what HoT created for me.
For my first toon I made ascended armor, but it was overkill. Once I learned the monster patterns, I could plan on my alts with just Exotic.
Take the challenge. Bloodstone Fen offers the challenge in a fast paced form that is fun if you are up to playing at a higher energy level.
See you there . . .
After finally upgrading my gliding skills, I found that the location for Electric Wyvern has moved. Sadly, this was after investing in 4+ hours of finding a DS map that was progressing.
Why move the location ? It is harder to get now because instead of being dependent on map success, it is based on 3rd tier completion.
Why change it ? I thought your plan was to NEVER depricated the effort needed to achieve a goal. Now, I have to wait for another ‘rare’ DS active map . . .
I’ll survive and eventually complete my collection. It was a bit of a shock that you went back on your (word) plan.
HoT maps below AB, are rare to complete. “Been there, Done That” deprecates replay-ability.
Please don’t change other goals. Hard is OK, it’s a goal.
That would conflict with being in a group to get things done.
We saw in the latest story an asura walkie talkie . .
I wish we could buy such an item that gave the ability to create a multiplayer party chat.
It would operate like guild or party chat, BUT it would be a separate channel. Then friends of friends could chat in a large group without having to be in a party. It would also be more convenient than whispering. Other games, I’ve played have allowed these multi-friend chats.
One person opens the chat, and then everyone is able to add friends to the chat. I suppose it would have to be blocked in WvW and PvP modes.
For a long time, I was too focused on making gold to get the legendary, ascended, or AR boosts. I realized that it was ruining the game for me, because I had to always be maximizing my effort somewhere. I’ve never even used any of the 70+ boosts I have in the bank because it never seems to be a good time.
So, I made some changes. I stopped worrying about farming or finding the best recipe to craft for gold.
I began to realize that a lot of the grouchiness in LA was from the people stuck where I was, questing to be ultimate.
Now I just do what I want to try. I still farm when I’m lazy. Bloodstone Fen is a nice new very busy zone. I map on alts. Do some fractals or dungeons with guild. Level in WvW for reward and points to use toward HP on alts. Help random people while mapping. One day I crafted an exotic wep for a stranger because they were so polite and I saw, based on AP, that they were new.
I still made my ascended gear for my main. Except for the weapons, I’m not sure it was really worth the cost. It’s only necessary for high level fractals that I hope to try someday.
Think of other players as friends you haven’t met instead of competitors.
Oh, sorry I meant Royal Terrace – I will change the title
Plus, it helps deal with the issues about content change leaks causing unfair advantage.
Let your favored reviewers have a test server account and give them a list of changes like you give the testers.
A Royal Terrace pass feels exclusive . . It would be nice if the environment supported the feeling.
- Get rid of the Asura Gate rumble
- Get rid of the NPC chatter
- Add special music (at least like Rata Sum)
(maybe) map chat filter :p
Add more ideas . . .
(edited by keenedge.9675)
It was not mentioned above, regarding the Fields of Ruin map crashes.
In map chat, the people said the crashes were related to use of the crafting NPCs in town.
The crashes were as often as 8 in 10 minutes.
Discounts on:
- character tabs
- bank slots
- mat tab expansion
Gems have been waiting for these . .
The story wouldn’t have to be back-filled if the race were a newcomer to the alliance. The Tengu, for example, could finally come out of hiding. And some of their framework is already built, like the Kodan or others.
Plus, imagine all of the character slot sales that would generate
Account wide would be reasonable now that they have added the feature that all crafters share learned recipes.
I would love to see an instanced game mode that offers waves of progressively harder mobs. The main mode would offer this to level 80 characters. The mob progression would occur in tiers of waves. The first tier of waves being fairly easy. This would allow single players or groups to compete for high score if the waves were standardized. Perhaps a difficulty modifier to allow waves to have more skills kinda like the more sophisticated mobs in HoT and BS Fen.
I enjoy a good fast mob grind occaisionally. (remember D3, PoE or TQ ?)
It would also give a way to test drive builds and practice skill usage alone or/as a group without requiring commitment to a Dungeon or Raid.
I found this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Suggestions-Future-Elite-Specializations/first
Rich discussion of possibilities . . .
I play a ranged class. I often find that after killing a monster, the next auto-target is NOT the monster standing next to me. In fact, the target chosen is often obstructed or above/below me where I can’t even go easily, sometimes on the floor below.
I’ve been playing 3 years and it seems this wasn’t an issue until the last year. I’ve been unable to find a pattern for the selection.
Any ideas ?
I agree that the OP is mostly about the ranger, but I think there is a point here. Elite specs should have some choice of the direction you’d like to specialize. Just like in DnD, you get a dual-class option. Elite should offer more choice instead of only one flavor.
I play a ranger as a main and often as solo. The druid spec is not an enhancement to any ranger style game play. It seems primarily to benefit to have party work only. I’d love to have a different flavor of elite spec.
This seems like a good place to add a comment about the DR ‘Royal Terrace’ leather and weapon merchant NPCs.
The merchant NPCs next to the crafting stations need to have a reduced activation radius and the leather and weapon crafting stations needs a slightly larger one.
File this in the gw2 QOL section. Thanks
edit: clarified my use of NPC

Account upgrades sale(for summer): storage expander, bank tab expansion, character slot expansion.
Executioner’s Outfit.
GW2 Ball Cap with slightly different design on it.
Maybe add it for birthday reward. Better than a mentor tag, yellow level or map complete star.
I apologize by starting off this thread with the assumption people did not try DBL. The DBL map was so barren compared to the many zergs of ABL I made a bad guess. I was also biased also because I did not have strong gear until about the time DBL came out.
Thanks to all for the constructive comments about why they liked ABL vs DBL. I realize now how little I know about the strategy involved in WvW. :P
I missed that !
Great . . .
I had messed around in Alpine maps a bit during the nearly 3 yrs before the Desert maps. Then when the Desert maps came out I decided to explore and learn the maps while doing dailies.
I’m kinda sad that no one bothered to learn or run the Desert maps. True it was harder to find the opposition, but it also required deeper strategy. Going back to the Alpine maps seems like a jump back into easy mode for the borderlands. Frankly, it’s a bit boring now. No hunting or planning . . . just Zerg vs Zerg.
Oh well, the mobs want easy mode (but want it challenging too)
- sigh -
Hang-gliding quaggan or skritt mail carrier
Extra thought:
I just purchased and tried GW1. It is definitely not a game to coddle newbies. I enjoyed the challenge and have made it to level 9 (so far).
I can really appreciate the step you took to bringing us a much better and BIGGER world to explore – thank you.
I’ve enjoyed the maps brought by purchasing HoT. The gliding skill adds a bit of giddiness being able to glide instead of navigating fall depths for all maps (except WvW).
HoT maps are intimidating at first, especially if you don’t have exotic gear and knowledge of the mobs. Once I learned that, I’ve enjoyed the pace of HoT maps (when I know I need 2 hours of commitment). I feel LS3 would bolster the core Tyria map (non-HoT).
I’d always hoped that the expansion would enlarge the base Tyria map. I’m doing mapping on my alts and notice the lack of challenging content in the low-level zones. Many champs are missing, many dead-end caves are lacking the champ/vet that used to guard it. Those were fun memories for me as a newbie and never a deterrent from playing PVE. Some should be brought back.
I resent games that make the low-level zones a cake-walk to ‘hook’ the newbies. This game was originally about teamwork/solo-play. The low level challenges have been deprecated since the original release. Maybe if you thought the reward was a little high at first . . . adjust that, but don’t remove the challenges.
Please add some effort on expanding Tyria. The current ‘end-game’ zones require a longer period of dedication than I am often willing to commit to. I have ascended gear, but staying ‘active’ for 2 hours with no break is a bit demanding.
For example, why endure the long Jormag fight, when I can get the better rewards for a shorter stay in Fractals. I like what you’ve done with Shatterer and Tequatl to make them more strategic.
Please don’t focus soley on HoT, WvW or PVP. Give a little bit to the core game that we all came to visit and bring our friends to explore.
Thank you guys for the questions and continued concerns about the WvW missions and the Oasis event. I apologize to you all that these changes didn’t make it into the notes so you all might have prepared yourselves a bit. I’ve gathered a little more information for you that hopefully will explain a little more about the decisions.
The patch notes is a live thread, adding the info as an additional reply would help the people who will find this problem for the next few days.
If you wanted hard, you should of been there during the release-
It used to spam ALOT of fire AOE and aswell the summoned fire ele aswell. So imagine that room being one great big firey inferno with costant burning conditions!
Just to be clear, this was during release meanisn EVERYONE were all wearing the starter gears at that time so no ascended or even exotics. Maybe a few were abit stronger for having the level 15 rares on them if they were lucky!
So yeah everyone get burned and downed ALOT against the Fire Ele back then and it didb’t help that everyone usually end up bottle necking the mini brigde to the room
^^ yup scale elemental up again to give us this, much more interesting fight back then.
I fondly remember those days . . . we had respect for a zone boss. Not contempt for a 15 sec kill.
Like Shatterer, it’s a big wait long time, spam 1 event. It’s time to make it harder like it was before.
Thanks for your support
Finding some official comment in a long thread is very valuable. Reading the back-and-forth is not really useful.
Some thread are 20+ pages, I’d love to see if someone of note has commented on the topic.
I think using the ‘taxi’ idea to solve an inherent game design flaw feels like an ‘exploit’.
MegaServer should allow more people to gather on a map, especially for the DS map.
I’d imagine there’s:
1. A subset who hate the way Masteries are earned and hated traits 1.5.
2. And a subset who hate the way Masteries are earned but liked traits 1.5.
3. And a subset who like the way Masteries are earned but hated traits 1.5.
4. And a subset who like the way Masteries are earned and liked traits 1.5.
I’d imagine there’s a useful conclusion to the all of this pseudo set-theory ?
We used to be able to reset skill point distributions, so why not allow that for masteries like skills ?
Mastering story episodes is an extremely potent penalty to get a few extra Red points.
Maybe a one-time ‘grandfathered’ reset ability.

Dear Anet,
Since it’s hard to communicate in game to all guildies as a group, it would be nice to have a guild message board that members could use to post notes about LFG, crafting help, guild news and related issues and other general messages to the guild audience. The board would be allowed as a guild permission.
This feature would save a tremendous amount of time spent messaging / whispering members to coordinate events.
It would be helpful if someone from Anet Dev would post a question asking for specifics to narrow down the issue and/or a comment whether they’ve been able to reproduce the trouble.
The golden wings need some sauce, they’re kinda dry :p
Is Reddit a more authoritative source for Anet staff comments than the forums ?
It would be so nice if we had a thread to go in the forums for comments like this.
The point was this, all the classes except ranger and guardian have a specialization that compliments what they do. That is where the ball was dropped, they took ranger into the world of healing where it did not need to go . . .
+1
@ShiningSquirrel – thanks for the reply
Since most of us will often wait until the start of the new GW2 day before logging in, it would be a kindness to make the cutoff of patches before the start of new day, instead of 5pm pacific time regardless.
We just get started with some group activities and then “Grrr” trivial patch and forced restart. If not by 4pm Pacific time during non-DST, why not next day ?
For your consideration – Thanks

I recently got a GeForce GTX 550 Ti video card put in my computer as well as a new 550 watt power supply . . .
A few months ago, I switched -from- a GTX 550TI which had been working properly with Windows 7 Pro and GW2.
Just letting you know it should work – sorry no suggestions though.
