The last remaining question becomes “should” older stat selectable items have their selection expanded? Most of the stats are tied to their content pack….. HoT stats are only available from HoT items, and PoF stats would only be available through PoF items. But very few Tyrian items have the ability to access the full list of Core stats…. and of the few that do, were mostly retrofits of previously removed stats (like Explorers).
I’d only like the ability to reset the stats of a piece I built. New stats would be great, but it’s unfair to people who’ve finished more recent collections. Resetting the stats would allow me to re-use the piece on a fresh alt and put my newer stat-choice pieces on my mains.
Since the demo weekend, I’ve been suffering from high ping and lag. This occurs in empty maps while farming nodes and even in town while crafting or moving stacks. This isn’t the terrible spikes like we had during the DDOS (assumption)
I’ve tried other games and I’m satisfied that my connection is still acting as well has it has for years. (I’m gonna copy this to Reddit: Reddit Post )

You’re about 2 years late for the kind of care to have that discussion anymore, and truth be told, I have zero desire to repeat what others before me already said, since for the most part, they said it better then I could.
I am sure the Topics are still round here someplace, maybe in the HoT sub forums, feel free to peruse them, I am sure there might be still be a dozen or so left that only got locked and not deleted.
So… basically, instead of answering my questions, you claim that I don’t really care?
No. I am claiming that I (me) don’t care enough to rehash old arguments. It was not fun then, I doesn’t feel like fun now.
It was a subject that spanned thousands of posts, I doubt it was an ‘easy answer’. As for HoT, it still feels like the same old Rat-Maze it felt like when I first played it.
I took a break from HoT and pretty much stuck to Tyria for quite a few months. I was overwhelmed. Slowly, I built up my gear, learned the mob tactics and improved my playstyle. I’ve only finished the maps on one player just recently. I still don’t prefer those maps, opting instead for the LW season 3 maps, which I think are much more fun. My favorites are Ember and Bitterfrost.
I think PoF will still require knowing mob tactics and making your tactics to deal with them. It doesn’t seem so crowded that you get ganked because you can’t find a safe place to think for a minute like HoT was. The sampling of events during the demo weekend was encouraging.
Expecting it to be like Tyria would be wrong, I think. I play solo almost 100%, but I’ve learned to discover or attract groups to get things done. I think that’s the best part of GW2, the casual players can run up to join in open world activities to get things done and then go on their own way. Others can still stay in structured parties and knock down objectives as a team.
I think ‘get gewd’ is annoying and harsh, but there’s a grain of truth in it. Anet is pushing us a bit. It started with Dry Top, Silverwastes and Labyrynthine cliffs. Then HoT dropped a bomb of higher difficulty content. HoT was scaled back a bit and reworked, plus the game stability eventually returned.
In addition, we now are getting regular fresh content. So, stay with us, stand with us and conquer the new stuff. There are so many willing to help with no strings attached.
Bumping this because I think it is something that must happen.
At least for the stat selectable backpieces (not the ones with fixed stats, but all the god backpieces, order backpieces, mawdrey and so on…) – there has to be a way either through a recipe or mystic forge to reset them to a statless state.
Necro-post bump . . .
It’d be nice to hear any updates on this topic.
Specifically, can we trigger a reselect or even use the armor/wep recipe to add HoT stats?
I was reading an old post on gw2efficiency.
It seems Hero Points per toon is not available in the API. It would be helpful to quickly see which of my toons needs more HP for new elite skill. That would just be a single field per toon record.
Can you consider adding that and maybe some other relevant stuff (masteries perhaps)?
I think chasing the meta for extreme builds was always for those with deep pockets. Others chased blindly and complained without counting the cost. It is ultimate power, but with that comes ultimate cost . . .
I’ve never chased the meta because I recognized it to be a seasonal thing that would eat resources. Now, I have the resources to build for it, but I’ve learned to play well since then. Why bother? Spend time in improving your play-style, so you’ll be meta change resistant with your efforts.
Or simply change the color of their text to match the tag?
No, we already have red for Map chat, gold for guild chat, etc. If we changed a red commander’s text to red that would be confusing.
If only the text in the [xxx] were changed, it would work nicely and not be confusing.
If you have a mentor tag up, people see [mentor] in chat text.
Likewise, add just a small dot to show the tag color of the person if they’re tagged up.
I also like the idea of a short color name on the line in place of the word [mentor], color coding the word would still be great.
I know everything is listed in the wiki. But it’d be a fun collectible to have a monster compendium similar to the one presented in the TV Show Grim. (ahem Anet)
I’d even buy one like I did the D3 collectible edition.
Monthly rewards to bring traffic to HoT maps

Daily rewards aren’t enough motivation. I typically do the 3 easiest ones and then do something more profitable.
I’m thinking of being able to earn something (??) that is hard to get otherwise and account bound.
My first thought was clovers because coins are hard to get. A map currency bonus like the dungeon frequenter chest would be attractive to me.

+1 for nerd score card – LOL
Thanks for the post, very helpful.
Monthly rewards to bring traffic to HoT maps

On Reddit: Monthly rewards would be a good way to bring traffic to older HoT maps
I think a monthly objective requiring participation in each HoT map meta event (and reaching 100% participation) or LS3 maps (and activating all of the hearts in a day or killing map bosses) would be a good way to attract traffic to the ‘older’ maps. Perhaps 1 trip to each or some tally and a mixture of visits like Dungeon Frequenter. It should be a lengthy process that can’t be done in 24 hours of straight play.
I can’t think of what rewards would be good. Maybe a mixture of map currencies. Perhaps AP (that’s getting old though) or clovers. Add your ideas . . .
I hate to see HoT/LS3 nice maps grow desolate just because they aren’t ‘fresh’.
Dear Anet . . .
As mentioned many times Reddit: Giant Slayer
Please at least make the champ giants in Orr (or elsewhere) count for giant slayer. This is a general achievement. This one is out of line in difficulty compared to ALL of the other monster slayer achieves.
It just doesn’t make sense . . .
AND now with mega server, we can’t farm the one mob that grants progress. . .

These are nicely done in documentary style.
Consider using other tools and bring your poll to Reddit.
It is a vibrant extension of the GW2 forums and frequented by Anet.
I agree with the point that there are enough starter areas. With the continuing addition of maps, the population is getting too spread out. The Daily Event map is a good way to get objectives done on a map that’s often barren. Even f2p players can take advantage of doing the dailies.
I’d love to see some of the mini-bosses reappear in the map fringes. These were extra challenges not needed for map objectives that made a routine grind get exciting for a bit. Remember the golem rampage in Metrica right at the start area ? Or the golem SE of Fire Elemental that powned us ? The scattered wolf dens that would pounce ? The boss in N Brisban NE of Hidden Lake in the now closed cave ?
I think those added spice to the game . .
While not strictly starting content, they gave you something to strive for during an otherwise uneventful map/leveling grind.
Thanks Castle, Chad, and Thorfinnr for the elaboration.
I never realized that it was the entire Zephyrite fleet that crashed. Is there a Cliff’s notes version somewhere? I need to read up on that lore. Back then I was a bit overwhelmed by the all of the story I had to consume . .
The ‘cliffs’ didn’t crash. It’s just a map area with fun stuff. The crystal shards are still used in DryTop as mentioned. Perhaps they are just useless bits as far as ships are concerned.
Maybe we could take a boat there since there was water around it. Or another airship as mentioned above. If the quartz nodes upset the economy. Take away the buckets and/or make us work for them.
Agreed – This has been a good discussion.
I’ve been here for 4 years. I own HoT and enjoy all of the new maps. Nicely challenging and rewarding.
Hopefully, they would consider adding at least one new ‘busier’ map to compete with SilverWastes for core Tyria players. Perhaps, it might lure a few older players back with new challenges. I miss many of the minor champs and map-fringe vets/champs that made exploring a map surprising. Some simple small story a lot of reuse would be fine. It could serve as a sort of preview of the challenge that awaits in the other expansion maps.
Anet has learned a lot with map events first with Dry Top and then with SilverWastes that ultimately lead to the HoT zone mechanics. It would have to be free of gliding/shroom and other advanced mechanics. There are still plenty of SW and DT mechanics that were never reused. The Bazaar of the Four Winds had a great variety of activities. Rediscovering that zone would be nice . .
Remember, that’s only for the FIRST load of the game.
I finally got around to adding that SSD. . .
I didn’t see any postings describing the benefits of using an SSD with GW2. I had become bothered with load times into Royal Terrace and into our (bloated) guild hall. So here are my numbers.
I recently added an SSD to Intel 4 core 3.7GHz, 32GB, 960 FTW and 2TB Seagate hybrid drive with 8GB cache. (I picked small SSD because price was $40 and I only routinely play gw2)
I left my original GW2 directory. I made a copy of it to my SSD and ran the other copy from there. During SSD use, C: showed 0% utilization.
I have a toon parked on the Terrace near the portal. I timed from when I selected the toon and the mini-map was finished 3 times after restarting the game each time. On the 3rd time, I took the portal to LA arriving at the NE portal cluster. Went to our guild hall and waited for all decorations to appear. Pressed B and went to Eternal Borderland, then took the portal back to LA arriving at the South portal cluster. I did this during non-peak hours within 10 min (4pm EST Friday)
with HD: 1st load(49s), 2nd(19s), 3rd(17s), LA-(25s), GH(28s), EB(10s), LA-returnviaportal(16s)
with SSD: 1st load(18s), 2nd(18s), 3rd(17s), LA(16s), GH(10s), EB(7s), LA-returnviaportal(14s)
Biggest difference was with initial load and guild hall scenery load times. Conclusion: SSD helps, but not a huge difference
EDIT: To clarify, the SSD in my test is NOT the system drive. I don’t want that since I boot only once a week or so and rely on sleep for unused times.

Original Post FWIW: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news/Ascended-Vending-Changes
Ascended armor should be a little tough to get and legendary should be harder still.
I was a bit miffed to hear people bragging how easy it was to get ascended gear in fractals and in PVP after I spent a lot of time getting my mind wrapped around getting the resources I needed to craft mine. You will need to study the game and do some boring things. Same with any valuable endeavor.
I’ve only played 2900 hours, but managed to become fairly well funded. It wasn’t from the AB multi-loot or fractal 40, it was from playing the game and working to get what I needed. Dungeons, Fractals and WvW. (Alas, still rank 7 PVP) No gems.

TP agent is accidental. THIS is intentional.
It’s from a guild known for other misdeeds, should it be reported ?
You can’t search on their forums.
Plus, if they say something controversial, they’ll get blocked and the comment will disappear . . .
They could associate the weapons sounds with player instruments. We DID get a control for that.
Aside from that, “I know your face from my dream.” . . . Alas, I listen to iHeart and mostly mute the wonderful music in GW.
Mike O Brien.4613:
Hi all,
This release will include the promised fix to AB multi-looting. The fix is simple: you can loot each of the great and grand chests once each time you complete the meta, once per map cycle.
This release will also include a new, challenging group-farming spot for leather.
Mo
Both of these are good news to me, but now I’m wondering what the leather farming spot is. Kill a champion dolyak?
Seems like an opportunity to let the bandit bounties and executioner give some reasonable drops. I don’t know what they have for defense, but looting it ought to generate some leather (maybe ecto and a mystic coin too ).
I was frustrated about XP being wasted. Then, I finished my Tyria Masteries and realized leveling happens fairly often. The shards are very useful to feed Mystic Forge recipes, especially promotion.

Subject. Pact glider improvements
We have found the pact glider developed to support our efforts in the Heart of Maguuma jungles has been indispensable. By providing safety and speed to our troops, our forces have been much more effective.
Assuming that the gliders were developed from Zephyrite kites and ships. I took the liberty of having a team of Zephyrites and Asura review the design of our gliders. It seems that aside from the custom decorations added to the gliders by troops, some improvements are possible. The basic frame and flight surfaces are made of common materials that were inexpensive at the time. With a few adjustments, a glider could be upgraded by using Mithril and Gossamer to achieve higher speeds and possibly distances. The smooth flight surface and rigid framework are responsible for the increases.
Please consult with the other pact members to find our if we can formalize a set of plans for release to our troops. Each member would be responsible for the cost of the improved glider substructure. We believe these changes would not compromise the utility of the glider for users and only make our troop members more effective.

Yes, as Pheobe says.
Thank you Electro. I had never noticed that.
I still think the disable feature shouldn’t bring it back out until we want it.
I see scoring changes, but the changes to the camp capture mechanic are not listed.
Supervisor can be killed early.
I solo kill a camp and can’t capture.
Are these on purpose ? How would I know ? Are there more ?
Can this be expanded or ‘better yet’ be allowed to be expanded as needed.
I like to make a todo list by clicking on the achievements I’d like to accomplish to form a list.
Remember too, that legendary crafting seems to require a ‘gift of battle’ from wvw or pvp.
When I disable the ranger pet, I WANT it DISABLED.
If not, can I please create an empty pet slot ?
I think the current action is faulty.
This allows monsters to hit me, then my pet and lower my run speed, forever.
For example, it puts me at a disadvantage in the Chaos fractal while running to light fires. I have a high run speed, but I can’t keep up with the group.
I should have asked, using ‘-maploadinfo’, what do you get for a load time ?
( halloween times) – I’ll repost new times afterwards
1. LA Forum ? (30 seconds)
2. DR Royal terrace ? (12 seconds)
3. Alpine Borderlands ? (9 seconds)
Regrettably, I didn’t record times before the following changes:
1) I defragged and copied gw2.dat to a new file, just in case it was sitting on a bad sector
2) after discovering MS defender slows files copies quite a bit, I added an exception for GW2.exe and for the gw2 install path
I seem to have gained a little bit of speed after doing those.
I’m going to add a small SSD to put the GW2 installation on. Then I’ll check the times again and report in a later post.
I’ve been playing GW2 for almost 4 years. I have a pass for DR Royal Terrace. I use it often.
The load times for Royal Terrace have gone to over 30 seconds in the last 3 months.
I know it’s Halloween in LA, but the load time there is way longer than last year.
I have fast Uverse, i7 3.8g, 32g Ram, Seagate Hybrid drive and nVidia 960. The same setup for 3 years, it’s not me.

I’ve been seeing this on the rise in the last couple weeks.
A toon will pop in, gather a node, and vanish. They’re hard to report because you have to click on them and rt-click before they vanish.
I’ve been noticing the camps on the south end of Alpine frequently have FALSE attack indicators. Haven’t watched in Desert yet.
People have said ambients, but I stood at the S center camp for about 10 minutes. There were no ambients, camp staff didn’t move and there were no attackers.
Please look into this, it is relatively new behavior . . maybe 2 weeks.

So you know, your place is not taken by someone else, Anet has said explicitly that they DO NOT allow anyone into a DS map in progress. This is to prevent looters from hopping around. Same as the doors closing under the forgotten city in AB.
The crashing in DS was an issue for me for a long time, even after the 64-bit client. I put off running DS for a long time, but now it seems stable.
As for 32-bit, we know the internals of the client were overwhelmed with the new amount of data HoT added.
As a programmer, I believe the 64-bit client started off as a quick-fix and now (because 64-bit is mainstream) is the default. I think the 32-bit client can be fixed to do the job, but it would take a clever person some time to identify and re-engineer the failing parts.
Sadly, just like the Mac client, a 32-bit fix is not top priority. I think the client should be able to manage running in a 4GB system, like the 32-bit system did.
As far as I could tell, the Circus people are castaways . . .
That reminds me, the original name for the skipper in Gilligan’s Island was ‘Jonas Grumby’. Check Here – wiki
I think our Captain Grumby was no coincidence.
Since the ascended weapon is the same strength, having a legendary is mostly about prestige and stat swap.
I have a few guildies struggling with the cost to craft a precursor. I went through that about a year ago when I first started thinking about ascended weapons and gear.
It takes the fun out of the game when you’re stressing about making gold to grab materials. I only have ascended gear on one character, the rest play really well with exotic gear. In fact, after I invested in the ascended gear, I couldn’t tell a difference while playing that character, even in HoT. The weapon seems the best value and maybe the coat. You can still do several tiers of fractals with only AR from trinkets and such.
Enjoy the game, your friends and collect or save what you can. Don’t get grouchy trying to rush to something that is not a big game changer.
I wish we could hide both AP and mastery points because they encourage elitist behavior.
I was gonna say the exact same thing
Ditto.
I think the berating would happen in face of joining Raids, Fractals or other higher difficulty groups. In town, I don’t hear much.
Without a damage meter or inspection technique, sadly people use whatever IS visible to shun seeming inferiors.
Finding a GOOD guild helps there. I have anxiety in the face of these issues. My guild is very laid back, even in challenging settings.
I love the new map. Glided in, started killing stuff for hearts. 45 minutes later: “WOW, this is fun.”
Thanks for the new content and nice job.
