The guild bank would require me to be ranked at officer – a privilege that few have in my 400+ guild, and since I can no longer help them out in WvW, not one I can really seek. I WAS actually using the treasure trove (which I had permissions for), but an “Unknown User” cleared it out with all my sigils, jewellery, 8 exotics and a bunch of yellows that I was saving for the mystic toilet. I guess they turned up as Unknown User in guild log because they gquit afterwards?

This may seem obvious, but are you sure you didn’t hit “deposit collectible” towards the end of that farming?

I’m pretty sure that using guesting to change a mechanic which was meant to restrict something to “once per day” would be considered an exploit, I’m afraid.

I was running world completion in Frostgorge Sound yesterday on an alt and stumbled across an orichalum node. To my pleasant surprise it was surrounded by level 78 – 80 mobs which seemed to have a pretty good drop rate on T5 and T6 claws (I have also discovered bones). This is great because I need to get my crafting skills up.

Anyway, I stayed all of 5 minutes and continued on my way, logging out near HoTW instance entrance, and went to bed.

When I came back this morning I decided to some dedicated claw farming, so I popped a spicy pumpkin cookie (45mins) and returned to the node spot (happily it was in the same place so I got my orichalum). I had been farming for about 25 mins when I ate some +power food (not magic find), not realizing that it was one-food-buff only in game (I know, noob). Accordingly, I popped my last spicy cookie and returned to the claw hunt. About 20 minutes later I noticed that all of the drops had converted from materials to icy stones! It was very, very sudden and noticeable.

So, if anyone knows, answer me my questions 3 (anecdotal evidence or a link to a comprehensive thread would be fine):

1. How long does one have to stay in an area in the open world before this effect is observed?
2. Is it a case of the entire zone being affected, or just the local POI/area?
3. How long does the effect last?
4. Would guesting remove the effect? (I know this is a controversial suggestion that makes me sound like a farmer, but actually I need these mats to get my tailoring to 400 and craft exotics)

That is 4 questions. Whoops.

But the reason for the mistake was the misdescription of what was supposed to be an item (labelled “double click to use”) at the guild promoter that I was being sold. It didn’t occur to me that I’d have to stand down and represent my dummy guild before buying what appeared to be an item…

It seems amazing that if this has been a bug since beta it is still not fixed! No surprises that despite making an IG bug report and notifying here I’ve heard nothing from the team…

Recently, my guild moved servers (before paid transfers was introduced) but I missed the boat. I still represent them to stay on gchat with them and arrange dungeon runs with them.

To ensure I would have access to a guild bank, I founded my own 1 man guild and started grinding influence in WvW (the first 500 was the toughest).

Then I realized I could purchase “items” that would allow me to buy influence and get my bank sooner, I thought “great”, and went to Divinity’s Reach to purchase “Drinks for the City” (2 gold). To my horror, after buying it, and despite the tooltip describing it as an item that I should double click to use, the influence was immediately added to the guild I was representing (yep, that has transferred off and can no longer use any influence I generate for it) and my 2g was gone. No item, not what I thought I was purchasing.

I have logged a ticket begging for the 2g back (I am not a very wealthy Tyrian) on the basis that of course the 1000 influence can be deducted from my guild which no longer has any use for influence on Kaineng. Unfortunately, I have not heard back, nor do I expect to hear back given my experience with bug reports..

This is a serious issue for a casual gamer who plays mainly WvW and has little cash to spare. What will Anet do about the misdescription of “items” (which are not in fact items at all) occasioning this kind of loss?

I am speaking strictly of a lore based perspective. Very few Sylvari have anything more than one name. But unless you are an RPer, it makes little difference.

Still I don’t find it right really. Many NPCs have only names and probably for convienience. Queen Jenah, Minister Caudecus,

Only a few important NPCs are given surname, like Logan, Rytlock, racial leaders etc.

You get a prompt with the name of the item described in its color of rarity. Unless you are in the habit of salvaging anything above yellows (i.e., routinely), this just doesn’t make sense, I’m afraid.

This is very very true. I’m very curious what she’s going to have in stock when she gets back though.

I’m hopeful for keys but if not keys it seems like she must have something that is desirable in mass quantities. Unless they change the recipes for getting 2,000 commendations the only reason anyone ever did that more than once was keys so without something like that commendations would just be way too easy to get and thus essentially worthless.

Of course I also have 720 crates (36,000 commendations) so I’ll feel a little dumb if there isn’t such a thing. Then that would be my fault entirely and not really Anets since I made the mistake of making them after Lyns was disabled but before I knew it was the case (missed that patch note).

36, 000 commendations? I am interested – how did they become so prevalent so quickly? Something to do with wintersday items?

Kinda a shame if that’s the case because anet would need to consider their massive inflation before reintroducing Lyns… which would slow things down.

Another idea is to have people push/pull the ranged ones out of the circle, if you can.

Unless you have crazy DPS, this is the way to complete this event. If you are familiar with the circle/capping system that is widely used in events and WvW this will be intuitive. Just make sure you have someone not drawing aggro/skritt that stays in the circle.

Personally I couldn’t complete the clocktower. It was too crowded so I could never see my character, let alone the edges of ledges etc. Apart from anything else, the waiting time in between was kinda scary/traumatic, too.

The WD jumping puzzle is just perfect, really. The 3 paths are brilliant for congestion, the platforms aren’t so bumpy (it was often not clear on the cogs in Halloween what had to be jumped and what could just be run up), and when you fail you get to watch other players continue/observe their skills in the wind section, etc.

Finally, the reward is not so uber that if you can’t make it you’d feel you missed out on OP/“essential” content.

So ANet, great job!

The grenade kit was literally the one good thing about the class, and it was really only usefuil for sieges and large scale wvw… To add insult to injury, d/d elementalists, thieves and mesmers got buffed! This is madness.

I think they’re saying that you’re online, and you obviously care about WvW, yet you’re not in WvW doing something about it.

Exactly. And its my experience that when one server does band together and cap out an enemy BL and EB, the enemy’s WvW numbers fall off completely because no-one wants to die repeatedly.

You are awake. There is a big button that says “Enter WvW”. You can do something about it other than complain here. You might say “But I’m only one person, there’s no-one else to help me re-cap/defend”, but it’s precisely that attitude that got you to +0 in the first place.

And this is coming from Kaineng, when we have frequently been +0 this week. We also had DRBL completely capped out earlier in the week when our motivation/morale/commander quality was high.

Don’t worry, you’re poking fun at no one. Would just like to point out though that letting DR wipe the map today was within the consent of the major guilds fighting in Ferg.

We could’ve held the map if we chose to. But doing that will slow DR in racking points, thus another week of DR/Kain/FC holding hands, and we wouldn’t want that now, do we?

Ferg – if you could have held it you would have, stop making excuses. You had the numbers in there last night but your skirmish strats wont work unless you get to pick the time and place of the fights. It always fails vs coordinated movements, ie: DR map control of Ferg. And if the “major” guilds on Ferg “agreed” to let DR have it, well bro there was sure a heck of a lot of the same guild tags ive been seeing repeatedly in Wv3 still in the fight. Didnt see a change in Ferg defenses last night vs any other night.

I so love how both Ferg/Kain has found an amazing way to rationalize their loss for 10 weeks straight. It boiled down to “we let DR win”. Well let me tell ya what I think:
- if Ferg could have won – it would have
- if Kain could have won – it would have
- 9 weeks ago in the first matchup for domination Kain stood a solid chance to take/hold the coveted #1 position, but couldnt come together as a team
- 4 weeks ago Ferg could have dominated 2nd place, again no teamwork as a server

Both of you can post your grumpy threads on coulda/woulda/shoulda/if i wanna…but the truth is you both were beat. And not recently, you were both beat 9 weeks ago when it all started, ie: before the populations were out of balance. (agree that Ferg did have a slight disadvantage, but not so much it couldnt have been overcome)

All through the thread both servers have stated you’re not letting DR move up…well what happened there? Kain had an awesome shot at #2 which would have led to a tier move shortly after DR…but instead of widening the gap with Ferg, they chose instead to pretty much focus all fights toward DR. Ferg, on getting those mass transfers in that boosted your population to more than Kain, again could have widened the gap, took 2nd and held it. Instead, focused on DR and small group skirmishes in lieu of server progression. You blame DR for everything, and try to puff up small group fighting into some kind of Wv3 domination. Well maties, check the score over the last 10 weeks: domination is 10 weeks of winning, anything other than a week win equates to “primetime” gaming at it’s best, ie: great in the moment but meaningless in the bigger picture.

So stop the hate. You both lost, deal with it. Tons of folks on DR have been giving almost continual props to both of you, yet the majority of post from you have been negative towards DR. Stop the whining and QQnd and excuse making…fix it and move up, or enjoy the bottom tier and watch as you continue to lose more and more gamers. (or pray you get upper tier guild transfers as you obviously cant move up on your own)

DR – AWESOME JOB and well deserved regardless of what Ferg/Kain thinks as its just jealousy typing
Kain – I’m still rooting for you! Even with the loss of some major guilds in Wv3 you’ve still fielded some darn good fights. I’d almost say your Wv3 stepped up after the loss of the guilds in my opinion. (SoS — help Kaineng!)
Ferg – Chris/Np nice work on helping build framework for Ferg progressing. Hope it continues and does a mirror image of DR on moving upward in tier.

The last 10 weeks? Exaggerating much? There have only been 7 weeks of loss for Kaineng since Week 42: From 2012-10-13 to 2012-10-19, arguably our proudest moment.

I think on the basis of all advice I will attempt to introduce tough/vit through jewellery and maybe have a play around with the elixir gun. It will be a happy day when kit builds finally benefit from weapon buffs!

Hey all, I am playing a 30 explosives, 30 firearms, 10 alchemy engineer. I couldn’t honestly tell you what traits I picked, etc., because for a long time my play skills have gradually deteriorated to a glass grenade launcher.

I have geared myself in full berserker’s exotic and allocated a few junk runes/sigils with the intention of replacing them.

The issue I now have is that I cap out at about 15k HP and realized today in FoTM that I have made myself seriously squishy to the point that this compromises my team. I am pretty good with the old “v” button, except when I press “g” or “b” by mistake. Then I die.

It’s true that I seldom get out my rifle, except when I hit the button next to “1” by mistake and end up with my rifle out. That usually leads to a comedy of errors where I hit 4 thinking my freeze grenade is up, only to go flying backwards over an inopportune ledge. Yeah, I wouldn’t say I’m especially skilled, but my DPS is pretty insane especially AOE.

ANYWAY, the point of this post is to ask whether I can counteract my glass-like-constitution through clever use of runes/sigils. I am also open to suggestions of how to respec points or evolve my play-style. If I had any authenticity, I would find this out by playing around in the mists, but the default gear there makes me unrepresentatively tough as it is.

Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Stylii – did noQQ transfer to FC or was that some kind of protest hop/collective hallucination? I am pretty sure I have seen your folk in red since Sunday.

Although it doesn’t appear in the patch notes, anecdotally (me and others in my borderlands) were noticing far fewer drops of loot bags in WvW – we took 2 keeps, 2 towers and 3 supply back, and countless vets/dolyaks and I think the only loot bags I got were off player characters.

Feeling like a tin-hat conspiracy theorist, BUT have they nerfed the loot bag drop rate in today’s patch? If so, shouldn’t it have been advised in the patch notes?

I am now at full all of those minus 2 vistas in WvW garrisons (which my server has been unable to capture).

Given that you have all the hearts, the most likely scenario is that you’re missing objectives in a capital city – check them all out one more time.

Finally, I’m pretty sure that Southsun Cove still hasn’t been incorporated in that tally, but check it out just in case.

Take your case and at a reasonable scale, Shananigans.8412, assuming everyone goes to sleep at 2 am. When you are asleep, it’d be 2 pm in Asia, but that’s 11pm in western US, then can continue the progress for another 3 hours, and when the western US has gone to sleep at 2am PST, that’s now 6 PM in Asia, perfect. But how about when WE are going to sleep at 2am? that is 2 PM EST and 11 AM PST. Now THAT is a big gap, as a lot can change within the 3~5 hour prime time gap.

And that’s exactly where I’m seeing numbers rising up in DR’s numbers.

As someone in Shan’s guild and in an Asia timezone, I unreservedly agree with what Chaster says here.

It would be great if ANet could provide some kind of records/graphs of +points around the clock on servers, because it would better help servers to analyze/organize their commanders/leadership etc.

Chaster – I’ll give my 2 cents, for what its worth.

I think Japan is maybe +1hr ahead of Taiwan, so I live in a similar time zone to SoS. I noticed exactly the same phenomenon as you from the the end of the weekend, and us losing SM.

I don’t mind mentioning two glaring issues (I think DR and FC will be aware of these, so they are hardly top secret strategy) with Kaineng’s WvW game atm:

1) There is a leadership vacuum in your absence. Nowhere is this more obvious than in EB. Other commanders, when you are not on, do not appear to like stepping into your place and bossing people around (I am not trying to flatter you here dude, that is just the truth).

2) We have almost no presence in enemy BL. Something that DR are really good at is not only having teams in EB/defending their own BL, but also getting out into KBL and FCBL and flipping big objectives. On Saturday night our time, through pretty much luck, Xiir commanded a WAR+ zerg in DBL that went pretty well, it just grew naturally from a small group flipping camps to us flipping Dreaming Bay etc. That was really great, but it was completely organic – therwe seem to lack a strategy or appetite to further this. I think it is a fact that Kaineng lacks the numbers to defend its BL against the DR-grudge-zerg and hold SM in EB, AND get out in enemy BLs.

In relation to 2) above, I notice there is a lot of hesitation in Kaineng to attack FCBL, even though it is likely to be significantly easier than DRBL to flip (sorry FC readers). Whilst it has the smack of a bully picking on the weak, I think some extension into FCBL is going to be necessary to get back to the top of our tier.

Skipping stones was a heap of fun, so thanks. My question for the dev would have been, was the shortcut deliberate? Had to use it because the geyser knocked me off the first plank of the beached ship when I’d just made the last jump!

As for the champion at the end.. cruel!

Also sad – the second scavenger hunt from zomorros (which i had begun in nolls absence) appears to be gone. I have 2 map bits from it but the metrica province npc isnt there nor the fire/air/lightning stuff. Sad.

Playing the game is not all about crashing in and trying to annihilate everything, sometimes you have to take a bit of a slow approach and view the area first rather than ploughing in. Those that decide to plough in, 9 times out of 10 will end up sucking dirt.

Note that I am not one of the players complaining about the story mode being too hard. I think I have died two or three times in the entire thing. I just think its dull and want to get it knocked over so I can work my way back through world completion with a clear conscience (have all of Orr complete already and really, really sick of risen).

Uhm, you can still type in a value, you just have to push the enter key. Hadn’t crafted in a month and took all of 10 seconds (and 1 go of crafting only 1 item) to get it.

I really enjoyed the challenge too, although I wasn’t able to finish it (I was still in there trying when the new build came up!)

I do think a lot of the grievances people feel about the CT could have been resolved by making the actual run (not the lobby) instance so that people weren’t getting constantly blocked by Charr/big Norns. I have to say that a huge majority of my early (pre-cog) falls as well as my slowness was attributable to not being able to see the next landing spot.

I liked the social aspect of celebrating for other people/comiserating in the lobby, so hopefully there is some middle ground. (The other option is just making other player models transparent during the run.)

My workmate and I live in Tokyo and play on Kaineng. Seems to be plenty of people from NZ/Aus/Taiwan/Singapore – which gives us a nice off-peak WvW slot for kicking butt in the evening.

A few weeks ago someone posted a link to a couple of sites that flash apps (I think) to find dye colors that would compliment each other. It was not specifically for GW2 but allowed you to input 2/3/4 colors and to set paramaters as to the kind of matching you wanted and it was super cool!

Unfortunately, 100 google searches and forum posts later, I can’t find anything like it on the forums or elsewhere.

Personally, my hands were sweating so much the entire time (they are prone to overperspiration) that my mouse pad kept getting wet, causing the optical mouse to bug out after 2 attempts or so. Accordingly, I could only stomach two attempts at the time before it bugged out too much.

I didn’t make it this year, but I am going to get some talcum powder/surgical gloves for next year!

HOWEVER, I have found (been playing it too much, heh) that as a villager there are too many places to hide where only the most knowledgeable of baddies will find you (i.e., people who play as much as you). Now, on one hand I’d say well, hiding the whole round isn’t a fun way to play, but on the other hand, the rewards for not doing so (and indeed playing this game long-term) except for the constant feeling of dread, are pretty meagre.

But all-in-all, a really great mini-game. GREAT JOB!

The fact that they think the complainers are wrong is totally irrelevant for the fact that a lot of paying customers were upset.

Wrong, Kimbald. Because it is usually the dissatisfied customers who complain (and make the most noise generally) ANet need to have a balanced view of the overall level of satisfaction of their current customers. Not 2 months down the track (by looking at subscriber numbers/login times/patterns etc.) but now, because they’ve got much work to do on future events.

It is important that ANet therefore receive the full picture. Companies do this all the time by doing exit surveys and stuff about customers’ satisfaction. They would rather have a balanced view rather than a mailbag of complaints.

As a wee disclosure, I have done no complaining or defending regarding Halloween in game or on the forums (although you will probably infer that this post less-than-neutral).

Turned 28 last week and extremely disappointed….

Sniffles – I have to agree with what nysta and others have said above about lacking insight into the effects of your own behaviour and blaming others.

Quick anecdote – I came to GW2 maybe 3 weeks ago together with a co-worker – we both live in Japan and work til late (11pm JST). Both of us were focused on finding a guild that actually gave a kitten and would be happy to have us as casual players interested in WvW.

During the 2 weeks I was looking for a guild, I had two significant experiences:

1) I read Fubuki’s post (before he merged with WAR) titled a different kind of kaineng war report. I found him to be candid, honest (in his PR-angle) and inspirational. I immediately got in contact with him in game. He was likewise honest and candid about the state of his guild/his plans etc.

2) I went on a PUG AC story mode with 4 KWBH members. We kept wiping because one of your members had to keep leaving for spliffs (I told him I was jealous, since I live in a police state and another had to keep helping his mum. People would go AFK without notice. At the end of the dungeon, an invite was sent. I advised I was interested, but I wanted to hear back from Fubuki about his alliance/plans. The attitude of the KWBH members was derisive (to paraphrase: “that alliance is nothing”, to quote: “soon KWBH will have more members than the entire alliance combined”).

Not terribly impressive that KWBH decided to jump ship a week or so later.

Anyway, no surprises that I (and as of last night my colleague) joined WAR. I have been WvW’ing a lot with them for the last week, and finding members even in my pretty odd hours. People have been extremely dedicated about the WvW’ing, and they’ve been kind in other aspects.

TL; dr – You can blame Kaineng beating you on having good coverage across time zones, but even achieving that is creditable to the actions of its community members. I think you need to accept some responsibility for the effects of your guild’s behaviour and its reputation. It’s reputation to those who remember it on Kaineng is not exactly shining. Surprised?

There is some pretty unfortunate “Tall Poppy Syndrome” being exhibited here. The moment someone playing on Kaineng makes a post that their server is caning, a few people start complaining about the bragging. It is really a shame – why shouldn’t we celebrate what we feel is an achievement? If it is so odious to those haters, they needn’t click on the thread in the first place.

I agree that the mix of time zones has been a boon – I am in Japan and note the efforts of the East Asian guilds (particularly SOS) in our late evening/early morning. Contrary to what someone claimed above, very few Kaineng players have ever expressed animosity towards them. I think Chaster’s (very candid) post above shows the level of goodwill and co-operation on the server. Why not celebrate that?

Kaineng is no paradise – as evidenced above there is the odd narcissist hater (no names), but as long as their effective in WvW, well, who cares? I’m excited for the next few weeks of WvW.
