Good fights tonight in IOJ borderlands, especially to Avatar and their MASSIVE CONFUSION BOMBING holy cow. At one point I had to stand in the middle of a 20 man group and do absolutely nothing for a lengthy period of time while waiting for confusion to wear off and hoping I make it through. Good to see that there is still some good fights left to be had this match up.
Great fight, you guys defended garrison really well
From an oceanic point of view, which server is best to join?
Do both IoJ and CD have reasonably presence at this time (around 1am to 5am PST)?IoJ is one of the unofficial Oceanic servers and should have a good Oceanic prescence. However Oceanic hours is my main play time and FA has been doing about the same as IoJ in these hours over the last two weeks.
I don’t know how much difference Oceanic is making at present. In previous weeks we had solid numbers and sometimes outnumbered during Oceanic timezone, but right now I am getting out manned buff every borderland I go to and I am from the Oceanic region and play during their prime time. We are still getting hit by 3x the number of CD players as we have in total and FA have slightly more numbers than us during my timezone from my experience.
IoJ has had top potential points in its Oceanic presence all week, yesterday we were only able to keep the slightest of margins kitten good work FA) but the previous days from when our prime time started we regained 3-4k points on FA.
FA has less numbers than IoJ in the Oceanic timezone, but instead of splitting thier forces across 4 BL’s they concentrate thier forces (love FA’s overacrching tactic) which then gives the presence of a larger force, where infact its purely concentrated.
CD numbers in Oceanic are slightly more than IoJ’s at this time, but only marginally, the difference being that CD seem to clump up larger groups and do hit roams as opposed to splitting up across all 4 BL’s.
I can’t speak for the whole server but I personally like having IoJ as an opponent. It’d just be a shame to lose you guys
Unfortunately it looks like Isle of Janthir is intentionally losing rating points in order to have an easier matchup in tier 4.
Have fun vs. Yak’s Bend and Maguuma IOJ I’m sure they’ll give you a very warm welcome.
And where are you getting your source, or are you just guessing?
I can vouch for the Oceanic timezone that we are in no way intentionally losing rating points and never will, sorry but too proud to do that., please stick to facts and if you have them then please do post them.
logged on to see FA at +85
we must’ve botched something really bad for this to happen o.O
Whats CD and IoJ on?
Score update anyone?
:)
Really?
Lets move away from server X and server Y is better than or is more zergy than or is less hardcore…
Every server, will have hardcore guilds/players, casual guilds/players and every other kind of player, so I’m sure that video posted above could have been for any server including CD,FA or in this case IoJ, the only difference is that this person managed to get it on video. (I have a video of 3 of us killing 17 (confirmed kills) against SoS, does that make all of SoS a “un-hardcore strategy” server?
Of course not, thats just generalising…
After all generalisation is a distortion of reality
Score update anyone?
So we got a bunch of fair weather players from IOJ?
How little you know….
Since weekly WvW matches started on the 15th of September, IoJ has won 2 matches. One was a blowout against an imploding ET, and the other was the first week of our current matchup.
As a result, all the fair weather players left IoJ months ago.
The IoJ players that remain do not give up if they’re not leading, nor do they care if they’re outmanned. I doubt most even care if they win. They’re battle hardened and they fight for every last keep, every last dolyak.
Many servers like to say they never give up. None have proven it like IoJ has.
QFT
Couldn’t have said it better myself!
I think people are beginning to get bored of having to face the same server over and over again. I think in some cases right now, servers are only moving tiers, not because they are getting better, but because players are transferring servers.
Just look at how many servers have 0 evolution in the rankings! Anet need to find a way to balance it out, end free transfers and open free transfers to specific servers with a “reward” for doing so.
Not everyone, there is something gratifying in learning your opponents fighting styles and adapting, and then having them adapt to your new style and so forth. Having same matchups also allows your guild to build Rep, meaning you can start to play psychological warfare, where by getting a new opponent every week limits you in regards to advanced tactics.
What made games like Eve, WAR etc great is you learned your opponents, infact part of strategy was learning your opponents, knowing which ones had what weaknesses you could exploit.
Ontop of that you gain recognition from enemies, celebrations when you defeat a rather nasty guild you come up against etc.
Yes changing matchups would be good (only if all servers were equal) but having the same matchup over and over can be alot of fun as well, if you start getting into the identity side of combat
Hi, Kylia! Your confusion style is interesting :-P
Please add my WvW channel to first comment —> http://www.youtube.com/user/PhantCraft

And ’Interesting" was exacly what I was going for
Very disappointed in CD.
Was in the jump puzzle. The path forward was blocked by 2 CD. I tried to challenge them to send one to fight me one on one.
Unfortunately I was simply too intimidating for them, and both came down to 2 v 1.
Fortunately I’m on my thief and thief’s never die so I just used shadow refuge to run out of combat and waypoint away.
For shame CD, for shame. Where’s your sense of fun?
Why didn’t you just stealth past them?
Also, I do apologize for the behavior of anybody who does that on my server, as I’m sure you do the same for people who do that on your server (with people on IoJ doing the same for theirs). We can’t control everybody (god have we tried), and you can understand why that is…they greedy for some PvP.
I saw somebody from FA doing the JP in our borderlands last night, and they were rather close to me. I just ignored them and did the JP. Had they attacked me though…fair game. Same thing with IoJ. As long as you don’t attack me in our borderlands, I won’t attack you. If I’m doing a JP in your borderlands though, and you see me running or bow towards you, know it means I’m not going to attack you. I think at this point bowing is the universal command to let the other server players know you come in peace.
Actually Bowing can also mean “duel?” so that might get tricky, if you bow and one of you is thinking I come in peace and one is thinking I’m about to put you in more than one piece.
Peace Vs Piece
Posted an update on the current healing bunker build (list it directly under the first one if you could, it needs the first video to stack on this one)
Perhaps post it in the first video’s comments (Trying to keep it to one name one link if possible

Hey, here’s a question, how do you target players that are up on a wall and out of sight from the ground? I ask this because I was up on the wall of Greenbriar once, using an arrow cart in a way where I know that neither of us was visible from the ground, and yet I was getting Scorpion Wired right off the wall, or Dragon Toothed, or Entangled constantly. Whenever I try to fire upwards from the ground at enemies that are not visible, I just get “obstructed,” or can’t target them at all.
You can’t. Need you to target them when visible
A lot of people will target you as you run in or get pulled to the edge and then you will get ctrl-t so that the entire group can target you.
Some pulls like tc of the Mesmer don’t require line of sight.
P.s. anyone have a score update??
P.s. check out the video title – 26.10.2012 Mesmer Play.
At the 52second mark to see how high you can punish someone in a 1v1.
(I’d link it but on my iPad atm)
Hey that’s my confusion build
works great solo, infact there are a good 16 videos on my channel of me running with that build solo, in 1vX I think my highest so far is 1v6.
Thhe challenge with a confusion build like mine is the level of macro you will need to do.
At a beginner level it’s dump everything and hope for the best, the good thing is most of the time you come out on top.
At an intermediate level your synergising dumps to maintain a high stack for prolonged periods, and at an advanced level it’s all about holding of and placing stacks before the enemy is about to do a button combo, lots of getting into their head and forcing their move
If your long for a challenging build that will giver you gratification to start with and as you grow it will open up more challenges, then try out the confusion build, the great thing is it also scales in party sizes
Could I request a score update please.
Right back at you *wink:
A video of over an hour siege of Greenbriar where FA with superior numbers could not break 15 or so IoJ’ers
(video is just under 20mins to include all the different attempts and counter tactics, enjoy! )
Amazing video!
I watched this right from beginning to end. I especially loved the portal from the back of the lords room. That probably gave them a pretty significant ‘oh kitten’ moment :P
I think you mentioned that you’re largely an oceanic guild which is too bad. I would love to see a video for RET vs. AVTR.
RET is in the american timezones
Weekend perhaps
Honestly pretty disappointed with fighting IOJ in general. I have yet to see a WVW guild that’s worth a lick on that server and coming from tier 2 I assumed the opposite. Sure there’s a ton of them (until recently) but there’s not much skill in having superior numbers and spamming map chat when you see an enemy about to attack a tower/keep and getting your zerg wave to move.
CD on the other hand has done the opposite, they’ve really been tough competition and I have seen even individual players stand out with good builds/player abilities.
Come play in the Oceanic timeslot *grin
Golem ‘rushes’ on IOJ can be anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour in the making. It depends on what the guilds and alliance are doing.
Here’s a short video of IOJ’s golem rush on Greenbriar in FA BL a couple of hours ago. You guys brought six golems (maybe 5, it’s hard to tell) and the NPC commander Siegerazor to Greenbriar and did about 1% damage to the gate.
I think these were the worst piloted golems I’ve ever seen. They spent more time spinning around trying to hit defenders than they did hitting the gate.
Right back at you *wink:

Osicay your way works I will give it that. Yet we still have to gimp ourselves to be able to keep up with lets say a small WvW group.
I just believe everyone should have the same speed uptime of 25% with classes being different with the 33% uptime.
???
A well oiled wvw group will cycle speed buffs, and stick close together, never have any problems sticking with the group as long as you have a coordinated group that takes turns speed buffing the group.
Oh, that doesn’t seem right to me, considering how rapidly those things can destroy a base’s defenses, they shouldn’t be so easy to set up, I think. Like you shouldn’t be able to pull materials from one map to get a head start on another. I guess that’s my major design issue with WvW in this game, it seems very difficult to hold anything for any length of time, most sites take a lot of time and effort to upgrade or put down roots, but only minutes to collapse complete from a concentrated effort.
I don’t think that zergs should be able to function like a Tsunami, just sweeping across a map in under an hour and laying waste, but rather it should be a deliberate process, in which it’s very difficult to take location C without first securing and entrenching locations A and then B. Often that seems to be the way it works, but there are apparently some mechanics that allow for all that to collapse in a heap.
Do remember they would have to build these golems out in the open, as you cannot build them in spawn. So some strategic scouts watching spawn can easily pick up on this sort of army being created. Of course it requires scouts, welcome to Tier 1/2 tactics

Updated.
Still hoping one day this will be stickied!
Score update for us stuck at work anyone?

spvp is instanced pve. Never seen a noncharacter player in there and it isn’t tired. You just suddenly get all abilities made available what ever your build is. As I have never seen a player in there I don’t know if you can earn xp from fighting there?
The mists is just were you setup your Spvp character. you need to then sign up for matches, there is a guy there that you can talk to that will display matches for you to join, and then your playing against other players.
^^^ Don’t forget you can buy siege with wvw badges. 100 per golem. (so no gold needed
)
Then an easy way to see its damage output (for confusion) is to put cursor over the Cry of Frustration (F2) which will show you the damage per stack you will be doing with your current setup. (same with winds of chaos to see burn/bleed)
I’m not sure if this has been brought up before and I don’t want to derail the discussion on the thread but the guild Primordial Dragons [DRGN] has been actively recruiting on FA in Lion’s Arch and all the WvW borderlands for the past 2 weeks. They are an IoJ guild actively recruiting on FA and trying to get players and guilds to transfer over. Seems a little low and is really giving IoJ a bad reputation over here on FA.
I doubt their actions are sanctioned by IoJ as a server. If they have malicious intent against either FA or IoJ, I’ll hold those players accountable.
Correct, I will bring this up on the server forums, we are against any server coming in and trying to poach our guilds and as such are against us doing it as well.
*please note this post does not mean they are or are not doing it, just that it will be brought up so that we can investigate.
(edited by kylia.4813)
Easy way to check. put your cursor over the attack section of your character sheet, take note of the condition damage figure. add an item with power, does that figure go up?
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Can we go back to talking about the matchup please.

Anyone have a score update for those of us working :/
Updated! 12345…
http://www.youtube.com/kyliad (has the build broken down in some of the videos)
Been running the build since Launch
Portal works with the glams, more fun is Veil working with the glams and how to achieve triple stacks when one walks across it (check out latest build video for that
)
(though you will find my build goes into some other traits) hopefully this will give you some more ideas to go off.
Finally, don’t forget that confusion is halved in Spvp
(edited by kylia.4813)
2 videos breaking down the build, items, traits, food etc. and the rest, videos of the build in action.

I do try, for hours. To get nowhere. I’m kitten sick of it. It’s by no means worth it. I spend hours having fun, playing the game, enjoying myself in PvE, and then I check out the WvW server, and we’re nowhere near taking the red borderlands, and I try to help out for a bit, and we get nowhere near taking the red borderlands, it’s just a pointless pain in the kitten. If it were as easy as you make it seem “oh, just get in there and do some WvWing, you’ll have those points in no time!” then sure, whatever, but I’ve spent about a dozen more hours WVWing than I’d care to in a lifetime, and gotten nowhere. This is a game, it’s meant to be fun. It shouldn’t be cramming players into gameplay elements that they don’t want to play for any more than the absolute minimum amount of time. This is not working.
Move servers for a week to another matchup…. vs wasting 6 weeks of waiting…
Last week a video against FA, this week one for CD
Enjoy
@AVTR – We saw you guys on the road from Garrison to bay last night and I remembered you from the forum so we tried to get to you for a little 5v5
But by the time we ferreted away from that zerg we lost you
Found you again S side of Bay, but we had a door to help us…
@KH+AVTR – Sorry about the invuln spot exploit near redvale. By that point we’d pretty much given up and were just trying to kill people. We won’t be doing it again in any organized sense.
We are looking forward to meeting you in the open battlefield
Picking on the weakest team Is the norm. For a commander, their players will only follow them so long as they are winning. If one side routinely kills your players, your commander will have to give up on that side, or face wreckless abandonment after a series of defeats There’s nobody to be admonished here. It’s just the way it’s always been for three sided games. As far back as DAoC (poor Hibernians)
The counter is quite simple. When you’re attacked by a team who has already given up fighting the other opponent, make sure you give them no ground. After that, abandonment of their commander is certain.
It may seem like common sense to most people just to pick on the winner, but you can’t play this game like its starcraft… There are other factors at play.
Also another standard is in a three way matchup 1 the 2nd place server cn become the primary target to the thinking – . 1st place trying to keep Second from getting first, and Third attacking the weaker of the two opponents to get from third to second.
and of course 1st can be hte main target if 2nd and 3rd want to take down the tall poppy
really depends on ppls thinking.
I can’t understand why some CD players still assume there is some alliance with FA and ask us to avoid FA.
Obviously, FA is hitting us everytime we hit IOJ. Also there are some spies in CD you can see some guild in both FA and CD and the spies enjoy watching their own server mate die. WAKE UP CD! THERE IS NO ALLIANCE WITH FA!Hehe, I have a video of us coming in over the top of CD to hit Bay FA, then pulling out andwatching CD go back in (while we resupply) only to come back in and then take it from both CD and FA.
(Might make an edit video for youtube, the fight itself is 30mins, so will look at fast forward editing for certain partsAlliance?? as if! so much more fun with three way battles
cannot see your argument here. I just said there is no alliance?
Just reinforcing your point

Finally this thread has some substance! Awesome videos. all around.
I’ve seen AVTR on the field a couple of times, so it’s nice to finally put a face to a name
We’ll look out for you. RET usually hangs out on EB between 5-9PM PST if any of you are looking for a fight, you’ll likely find us there.
I absolutely loved the Fort Aspenwood christmas song
Was that written or did you just record some drunk fool on voice comms? :P
(Speaking of which, that was some pretty mean FA presence on Christmas… silly CD and their silly family obligations. Should have been playing more GW2!)
Aye, so much better when your able to talk to an enemy over drinks later on about an epic fight, (win or loss)
AVTR roams in the Oceanic timeslot, so keep an eye out for us there, We have had some amazing encounters (wins and losses) with PRO, GODS and PRX from FA (CD we will come visit you more next week
I made this video for RET recruitment, but I thought i’d post it here as well as it was footage gathered since IoJ joined the tier so there’s some relevance there.
(Obviously one-sided as a recruitment video, but the fights are amazing to watch all the same.).
This should even it out
(same post from a different thread asking the same question)
The incentive is the Adrenalin rush you get, the sweat that pours from your brow after a long heated battle at the top of a tower, the banter in Team Speak/Vent with your fellow WvW’ers, the stories of epic encounters that are retold again and again for the next 10 years (Yep we still remember some of the most epic fights in WvW in other games (PotBS, EvE, WAR, Planetside, etc)
Fighting against a human opponent, one that is unpredictable and capable of doing anything… he did what?? that makes no sense!!! …A computer would have never had done that!
Adapting to any situation, fighting unmeasurable odds, coming up with new ideas and tactics.
WvW is about the memories, challenges and friends you make along the way. The glory of battle against a human opponent is all the incentive I will ever need
p.s. Why jump out of a plane? I belive you get no physical reward for skydiving
But when we talk about mentality at looking at a persistant battlefield the same processes should be firing in our thoughts… There is no difference in regards to looking at numbers in any persistant game when you take into account the 24/7 nature of the game. The only dynamic is the battlefiled you are fighting over, and the rewards in tow.
GW2 add’s in a cap to try to eliviate some of the potential issues with being overmatched, that in its own should be looked at (purely at a numbers vs numbers) as a positive in offering to assist with the feeling of being outmanned. (though I suspect its more to do with server loads)
Any of the games mentioned have worked with numbers not always being equal, thats the nature of these styles of games, they promote the requirement to promote people to play, to form ‘guilds’, hence the name of the game we are playing, it promotes the requirement to socialise, create frameworks and work together.
but we are getting side tracked, to go back to the original poster, I’ve named some games that do exacly what you say games do not, and that have had heathly lives, perhaps its time to look at the game differently?
