Pick another team based game?
Eve Online
Pirates of the Burning Sea
Planetside
Warhammer Online
I don’t think the OP has ever played any other true persistant server pvp game.
Eve Online especially, pleanty of times we have entered a system with “10 people, look across the ‘system’ and see 138 ‘enemy’ people”
War was never meant to be fair.
Talking about Eve, its been going strong now for how many years? coming on 10 in 2013! And there is no balancing in 0.0 space.
The incentive is the Adrenalin rush you get, the sweat that pours from your brow after a long heated battle at the top of a tower, the banter in Team Speak/Vent with your fellow WvW’ers, the stories of epic encounters that are retold again and again for the next 10 years (Yep we still remember some of the most epic fights in WvW in other games (PotBS, EvE, WAR, Planetside, etc)
Fighting against a human opponent, one that is unpredictable and capable of doing anything… he did what?? that makes no sense!!! …A computer would have never had done that!
Adapting to any situation, fighting unmeasurable odds, coming up with new ideas and tactics.
WvW is about the memories, challenges and friends you make along the way. The glory of battle against a human opponent is all the incentive I will ever need
p.s. Why jump out of a plane? I belive you get no physical reward for skydiving
Would anyone have a score update for a poor soul at work?

Whats more important than class is the people you surround yourself as a Commander, Having 5-10 guild mates with the same guild tag around a commander makes that commander so much more powerfull and easier to follow. Commander buff is a rally point, its not based on the individuals class, as it is based on the tactics, positioning, smarts and support that the commander has. I’ve seen glass cannon commanders running in surrounded by guild mates. Having a central “ball” gives your friendlies a nice large footprint to rally to.
I love the quote “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link”
In GW2 – “A commander s only as strong as its weakest asset” where assests are more than just a class, its your tactics, humility, support structure, wisdom, and all other leadership skills along with having a strong core base of ‘right hand men/women’
When I first started reading about WvW I envisioned people putting effort into taking and keeping keeps and towers and sending out groups from each to escort supply lines. worlds working to fully fortify and upgrade to get more waypoints across the map and basically notable battle lines (ala luxon and kurzik lines in factions). I assumed a very slow progression across the map with people actually staying with keeps and towers to hold them against attacks. small groups of people sneaking into enemy territory just to takeout supply dolyaks. You know something large and on a grand scale.
What I see when I go to WvW is commanders leading zergs in a game of round robin of who controls what. While this can be fun, It definitely lacks the epic-ness I had hoped for.
I was thinking one way to encourage people to not just pass points back and forth and actually try to keep locations would be to make the mystic forge in stonemist keep have a higher chance to give rare items and make that go up by 1% for each location held and and increase that by 1% for each 15 min it is held
ie
existing % + (1% per location held )*(15 min it is held)
Nice idea! Though that would greatly effect the economy, perhaps looking at it giving the camp/keep/tower give more points per tick based on how long you hold it (that way its only effecting the WvW matchup and not something unrelated (AH/economy))
That said though, I can definatly attest to the defensive importance that is shown on at least the servers in our current matchup. FA guard thier borderlands to the hilt, IoJ have scouts and mobile forces in their borderlands to protect it, and CD react quickly to any potential attacks.
Defending is a key component in winning the matchup, maintaining the points you need, perhaps your just in the wrong matchup to find the WvW experience you were looking for.
(disclaimer, Oceanic timeslot player, I can’t comment on US timeslot play)
Go power/tough/vit. With tuning crystals and might stacks you can still get cond damage to 1600
With Rabid its easy to get over 2000 condition damage. (before might)
http://www.youtube.com/kyliad (Build is included in the channel)
If you go full rabid, then you ‘must’ take the rune of Undead, the synergy with the toughness into Condition damage is what makes Rabid so powerful.
If your not going to go into the Undead rune, then the best makeup would be a mix of carrion and rabid, aiming for 1500 toughness and 20k life targets. (before wvw buffs)

What is PRO doing in our world?
Screenshot with the guild name please, not just the TAG. GW2 allows multiple guilds to have the same TAG.
:)
Just wanted to give some props to those who were defending FABL today. Good fights and good job on watching your keeps/towers. (PRO guild)Definitely spoiled a few ninja attempts from us. Even though we were outmanned the majority of the time we still kept trying to be a thorn in your side. I hope we earned your respect especially after a group of 10 of us were able to fend off 30-40 FA trying to recapture Greenvale via waypoint spawn rushing for the better part of an hour approx 4:30-5:40 est. Gave us a chance to showcase our strategy and tactics against a numerically superior force.
Thanks. We were actually defending for like 6 hours before you guys came too lol. IoJ threw golems at Briar tower with the breakout commander on three seperate occasions. IoJ eventually got that tower, didn’t find my mes so I ported our forces back inside, recapped it and they left the map shortly after. Shout out to [uA] and [AVTR] as well, good fights.
Some exciting fights in FA BL, both servers are like hungry wolves in our borderlands. I was the mesmer who kept finding you guys. I waved when you got caught with superiors at Bay water wall. You had us worried at Longview with gate at 10%, you sure aren’t shy of using superiors! CD is still bashing their faces on our other tower as we speak.. about 20-25 breakout attempts so far. We def had more numbers than you at the end when IoJ mostly map hopped.. really didn’t have 30-40 people on the map though, I wish we did! You should go play with CD BL next time, we enjoyed our stay in their garrison..
Great fights [PRO] from [AVTR]. This week has already given all three sides some amazingly rewarding fights. There is aa feel to the fights that lacks cokiness, (spelled incorrectly for the filter) which makes for great battles.
See you on the battlefield!!
Confusion in WvW. Channel has video’s on the actual build, as well as pleanty of videos of the build in action with 1v1, 1vX and group play.
That is all
please Devs sticky this thread
<- build with items as well as food.
www.youtube.com/kyliad
been running a highly effective tough/cond build in wvw since inception. Also vid with build breakdown on channel.
Bumping hoping a dev out there notices and stickies
IoJ Oceanic’s are defiantly representing tonight. Come on NA, ride our wave
(edited by kylia.4813)
LOJ has lost for 3 weeks in a row.
, TC has won for 3 weeks in a row.
IoJ came second last week…..
I don’t mind having great fights against opponents, but being on TC we have beat YB 3 weeks in a row, this time by 70,000 points, and we have beaten FA 2 weeks in a row where IoJ the server above us has lost the last 2 weeks. At least since I have been paying attention to their match up. I think the servers ranked first and last of each tier should automatically switch no matter how close the match was just so you can get a bit of change going. This is obviously not counting the server ranked #1.
Having been watching it that well, IoJ came second last week…
Ok this might supprice you but in my opinion we supposed to be first in.
QFT.
Great work Osicat, you’ve inspired me to do one for my build as well!
Added Osicat, looks like a guide to me!
@ all the uninformed people saying that IoJ’s Oceanic presence left for JQ. That was a total of 2 guilds… thats it, and not even very large guilds (max of 4-8 groups in WvW on a good night. (20-40 players)
There are still strong IoJ Oceanic guilds in IoJ, so drop the blame game on us, infact every night this week (Oceanic) IoJ has taken first place in potential points (hmmm I got vid, so i can easily get some screenshots there for our Oceanic doubters…)
Back to better subjects, to all the Oceanics on BG and SoR, some epic battles this week, keep it up!!
WvW build, lots of fun, requires finesse and tactics, great damage.
The youtube channel has a video breaking down the build, equipment, food choices, and lots of videos of hte build in action.
Do the Forum mod’s even read this forum anymore?
Hi,
Firstly I am a big fan of the current confusion mechanics, it is unique enough and challenging enough to make it a fun mechanic to use. In reference to your points, I thought I would shed more light on how with the current mechanics you can elevate the concerns for improvements and its con’s
(shortened your statements due to length of post)
-Not very strong against basic mobs (lucky to get 1 tick given mob attack patterns, could be that I’m doing it wrong – let me know if you have different experiences)
Confusion against basic mobs is the true challenge, to make confusion viable against current mobs its about creating a consistent stack of confusion as opposed to a burst of confusion, this can be done by cycling F1 and F2 shatters along with Sceptre 1&2 mixed in with your glam skills, done correctly you should be able to maintain 3 stacks on a mob at all times, giving you roughly (with a good condition build) 1200 damage per mob hit, acting like a strong poison or avg burn.
-Even with domination duration extension and 33% confusion extension illusions trait, duration is still quite short
Adding in the veggie pizza (40% condition duration) makes a considerable difference, on top of that there is a post in the forums about condition increase theorycraft (taking into account runes) that cna easily increase your confusion duration for a much larger window.
-Possibly remove intensity stacking and opt for duration.
As with the duration con before, there are quite a few ways to increase duration, the disadvantage of this is that you would no longer want to stack so much into condition damage as it would not make that much of a difference (since you no longer get the multiplier which is what makes stacking condition damage viable) To better deal with this in the current state it comes down to learning the other classes and skills. With that learning you can better time your confusion (classic example – remove conditions guardian, timing and not bursting your confusion until the 3rd cleanse for that 6sec window of opportunity.)
The key with a confusion Mesmer is that we are a finesse combatant, we rely on timings, vision and manipulation of the fight to get the outcome we want
-Keep intensity stacking, buff the base duration slightly (maybe in PVE only, to make the window of high intensity confusion on mobs more forgiving)
PvE, the confusion mesmer’s downfall, the key here is that we have other sources of damage, we are not a one show pony, and as such can adapt and change our damage output with relative ease, if confusion was to work in pve your 100% correct, the longer duration would make it massively more viable, but confusion in PvE should be a supplemental damage source not a primary in our current rendition, which can make us all the more powerful if used as the secondary damage source.
-Have each new stack of confusion applied increase intensity and refresh duration of the total stacks applied.
Alot of this will come back to my previous replies, confusion damage is a manipulated combat method, this would turn it into another head mash damage source instead of one that required finesse to defeat the opponent. I always view the Mesmer as the rapier swordsman, who against a broadsword, scimitar, sabre etc, uses his/her quick wits, superior wisdom and intellect to win the day.
-Add confusion damage to channel skills (count each second as an action as opposed to just the execution of the skill)
You may need to elaborate on this one
-Add dodging as a confusable player action.
When I first read this, I was like that is great, but then had to break down the actual skill, dodge is designed to be an escape from damage. As soon as you start applying damage to an ability that is designed to stop damage it ruins the actual reason behind that ability. The confusion still remanins through the dodge like other condition damages (p.s. other condition damages if their tick is during the dodge, it will not do its damage)
TL:DR
Overall the biggest downfall (or best kept secret for us that love the confusion mesmer) is that it is not a standard build that is designed to just do damage. It is a build that requires alot of finesse, requires the ability to read your opponent, understand the classes you are up against, and best mind read your opponent. Setting up the behaviour of your enemy and then wantching them fall into your trap allows for one of the most rewarding class builds you can play. The downside is that alot of players want results without the planning (not implying this to anyone in particular) so the confusion build escapes the masses. This is the biggest pro to our class build, as it also has a positive effect that the majoirty of enemies do not understand the confusion mesmer as they do not go against one on a regular basis.
one last try, please sticky!
Leave it as it is, its powerful if used right and stacking duration will make it alot less potent.
I run a confusion build, www.youtube.com/kyliad has multiple video’s of its viability in WvW along with a couple of videos that break down the build, equipment, etc.
Trying to keep this thread alive.
Added a new video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZ3L1z9obAwBut, Kylia, please just link to my channel instead (http://www.youtube.com/user/Vologase) – you’ve missed it from the list.
Thanks for keeping this up to date chap, there are some fun videos in here.
Fixed

@Victorwh, condition damage is factored in when you are down, so if your up against a high cond confusion mesmer they can usually get 6-7 stacks persistent on you in downed state. For an Avg confusion build your looking at 350 per tick, so around 2100 a confusion hit.
:)
Updated (stage one, sorting into WvW, gide, sPvP and Pve
Now time to watch them all and put a one sentence description, and i love the link idea Qelris, ill get on that!
work got crazy, will update this post to be more user friendly this weekend
Mesmer condition damage would be way more viable if shatter confusion lasted 5 seconds instead of 3.
Thats what Veggie Pizza is for
Osicat, where the confusion lies is in your title, your video and your explanations would have been better suited to a title similar to “How to be a Monster support Mesmer in a small group”
But your topic gives the impression that you are about to show us how the Mesmer itself is monster. (which the video does display your great team cohesion, but does not display very much Mesmer Specific Monstering)
Hope that clears up the confusion
Happy to make it look and be easier to use, would also love it stickied please admins!!!
(will work on the look and feel today, anyone out there that can support us trying to get this stickied please post)
Isn’t Nero’s at the top? Or am I looking at a different list?
p.s. have just been adding when they come in, easiest way to rank them and anyone who gives me a description I place in a bracket afterwards) seems kinda fair to me?
(edited by kylia.4813)
also, the temporal curtain does not grant swiftness if you already has some, (it’s a bug i assume) so that’s something to keep in mind when trying to stay mobile.
Not a bug, it was removed back in Beta because people would place it down and run back and forth over it to create a huge time stack.
Unfortunately instead of coding in the ability to allow only TP to not stack ontop of TP, they just removed the ability for the swiftness of TP to stack ontop of any other swiftness (you can still stack ontop of TP though through other means.)
Added you to – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Mesmer-Videos-Post-your-Video/first#post562592
(Mesmer video pool)
Updated again
(p.s. wont let me edit the first post without posting first…? bug?)
Its all situational now, theorycrafting numbers with any class can bring in some nice results, against a Mesmer the keys to winning are
1. Keep moving
2. Check for conditions and cleanse
3. Evade shatters or AoE clones.
(not in any particular order)
updated
1234567
17 stack confusion vs a warrior for example with his doing 5k: 5k+ 6k+ and 7k+ in under 2 seconds.
Again though, each to their own, the videos more to illustrate that there is potential over the ZERO reason (for some)
p.s. no d*** interpretation taken
p.p.s. only reason for my post was due to the comment " for condtion build"
(edited by kylia.4813)
One or two AoE’s against a mesmer in that situation and you cut out the majority of the 12k damage from shatter. (second shatter is at the 15sec mark after the first one, alot happens in 15secs.
^^ Could you use mirror to get a heal every 15secs? Or Mantra heal it up for 10secs?
Theorycrafting
Another option is let the mesmer lead the guild group. Guaranteed to never have to play catchup
More seriously, yes we don’t have very much in regards to raw speed, that said our portal can outmatch any other class for point a-b speed.
And with Haloween you can always pop a few candycanes if you have fallen behind
But yes, no passive buffs for us. (my utility bar is full anyway, no room for a passive speed buff!)
