Last week we ran into Hills to defend against a group of 20db, we had 9 of us with 7 Mesmers, and when they saw us approaching from the south (under the bridge) they pulled up to the lookout (big mistake) What followed was 7 mesmers all with TC and 20 dead DB at the bottom of the cliff.

Good to see you revisitng the Matra path, have you had a chance to listen to the questions from Chaos Archangel Podcast that SOAC put out last week, we talk in depth about builds, and do a piece on the difficulties with Mantra builds, especailly around trait choices and how ANet has set it up so that it forces the inability for a truely focused Matra build
I like what you’ve done here, just feel that your build needs a bit more direction to be a really noteworthy build that ANet will one day nerf ;D

Could you break down your opinion on which matra’s to use when, depending on the opponents playstyle, build and traits, I would love to get an insight into your thoughts on each of the Matra uses versus specific opponent styles.

Might I suggest if you are using the Phantasms for damage, changing out the Crippling for Empowered Illusions, since that will directly contribute to your damage output from the sustained phantasms. (The crippling will be a situational buff, but you’ve got control of the EI )

Question – are you using your ph/clones for shatters or keeping as many ph’s out for damage?
If for shatter – Can you give your reasoning behind picking Sig Mastery?

Scepter is used alot out there, for example Every single of my builds uses the scepter. The most well known Mesmer orientated guild which is 80%Mesmer all but 2 of them use a scepter.

Remember that the forums are the minority, most people will never post or even visit the gw2 forums, scepter is used a lot and is quite viable, share its benefits and don’t worry about others putting it down.

How we communicate is everything, those truly out there to train, teach, and share knowledge will take the time to review their form and style of communication to reach the largest audience. For example, L&D basics tell us to deliver training material in Visual, Audio and Kinesthetic means. If someone delivers in only one style they are not taking into consideration the audience’s needs.

The same applies when sharing info on a communal forum for the betterment of the community, try to deliver your content in a way that will reach the majority of people and not the minority. And always attempt to stay away from indirect pronoun statements, as they will the majority of the time, be taken in the wrong context.

Delivering cryptic content only serves the individual delivering it, as anyone who does not understand the cryptic content could feel cheapened, stupid, and a myriad of other negative emotions, not a message I would want to deliver to individuals when trying to help and share knowledge.

Lets break down the initial post:

First it states its a PSA, giving the reader a belief that this will be a post to assist and inform.

It then opens up with “I find your ignorance amusing…” Which of course is a direct attack on the individual reading the post, since there has been no referent to the pronoun made at any stage.

We then continue with a base equation that has no valid backing, and moving onto a “your welcome” showing an expectant request from the reader that after being fooled into the post, belittled and then given a half displayed equation that they should be thankful and of course creating a pre-disposed requirement to thank.

You then continue your PSA still using the referent pronoun which of course the reader has now taken onto themselves as the source of that pronoun, you move onto a belittling statement advising that if the reader does not know some supposed (no context) information on the scepter that you are questioning their actual proficiency as a Mesmer. (Directed attack)

You finish up with another cryptic statement followed by a laugh, which at this time can only be directed at the reader due to the multiple referent points that were never defined.

Perhaps next time, spend a few minute’s re-reading your post before posting to make sure that the message which I am sure is in there somewhere, is delivered in a way that will assist and encourage others to investigate and learn.

Commanding doesn’t require any class or any build, infact the majority of the time your lucky to do more than an initial attack and then autoattacking, since your headspace and eyespace is about the battlefield, your people, the enemies people and of course the mind of the enemy commander.

Tanky gear is there to make the above easier, but it is far from needed if you can do the above and use the multitudes of active defence that us Mesmers have. So yes, going tanky helps if your newer into commanding and need that extra passive support to keep you alive, but it is far from a requirement to command

Now to answer your original question on if its a good leader build or what is a good leader build, honestly, its time you forgot about your build and started to look at who you are leading’s builds. 95% of the tactics that I bring into WvW are tailored to the group composition I am running with, tailored to the builds they are running and maximizing what I have, Sure I’m used to running with 10 mesmers, but if that group changes and now ive got 3 thieves, 2 engys 2 guardians 2 rangers and 1 mesmer, my tactics and the group will not work to the best of their ability and most likely will fall short of expectations. What build do I run for commanding? I’ll give you three choices that I feel are the best answer to that question:

1. A build that can fire and forget, some people have suggested tanky, active defence, high mobility, basicly anything that lets you not have to concentrate on doing straight up damage, it just happens. For the newer commanders, that need to concentrate more on surroundings.

2. A Support build, most support builds are designed to synergise well with all other builds, this way you will always have a build that suits the group composition and helps your group.

3. A specific build that you design your tactics around. This works if you have the ability to influence those following you to modify their builds to suit a specific core.

Finally, does a commander need to always be in the front and lead the charge? Well not really, but it depends on who your leading, and what level of rapport/respect/following you have. I’ve talked about it in my commander podcasts on sittingonacouch.com that commading is more about the people who are following you and less about you in particular, you want to be a great commander, don’t worry about the builds, the gear, work on your leadership qualities, charisma, rapport building, thats infinetly more important than a build or a piece of equipment.

Just a couple quick notes on specifically how I’m playing this so that others can compare.

I have four main ways to interrupt:
– Greatsword 5 (wave)
– Pistol 5 (magic bullet)
– Shatter F3
– Mantra of distraction

I’m quite sure that Into the Void can proc interrupts.

I’ve had my Lockdown build on my stream and in the Build post on the forums here for a few months now (since Confusion nerf) has recieved a buff this patch

(Will be releasing a new video with some extra things that you can do with this build now after the patch)

I will be placing up some updates to Lockdown (as its gotten more powerful with a few tweeks )

First of all I want to thank everyone that has supported me and shown interest in my play style, builds, and videos. I’m here only to entertain (and maybe even inspire) other’s who see Guild Wars 2 in the same light as I have.

I am leaving the game. It has been a great ride, and I have nothing but respect and love for Guild Wars 2 and everything that they have offered (and that they have in store for the future).

April 1st was two months ago dude….

Well hello community!

Its time to release the Triforce build, as I am sure most of you know I love doing things with the community (eg. Aquafly) so I’m setting a goal, triforce will be released at the 400 subscriber rank on my YouTube channel. You control when its released ( 89 subscribers to go) the video is ready to go, and I’ll switch it on as soon as we get there.

But Kylia is this just a way to get more subscribers? I guess so, 400 isn’t a lot considering that my confusion build had over 8.5k views :o

You control its release, and probably the next Mesmer nerf as well

Update- hi all, if your wondering where the next episode is the answer is that Kylia is on holidays and unable to get to a computer to record, Pyro just might release something so keep an eye out. And I’ll be back not this week but the next!

Just wanted to make a shout out to AVTR on FA borderlands. You defended bay well. Also noticed that the small ops groups from both FA and TC are all so tanky! Had some very good long fights that really tests your skills. One wrong push on a skill button, and you know you’re dead!

If SoS stood a chance of rallying this weekend, the approach both FA and TC have taken to SoS bl is preventing it from happening.

Let’s talk meta for a second, both TC and FA are servers who will focus on their home BL first, in fact on FA (I can’t speak for Tc) we have guilds who will not go anywhere else until our BL is ours. Welcome to tier two, where guilds will drop everything to resecure their BL. (Unfair, or smart play?

Look we all asked for this, the current state of t4 was incredibly boring for us we know we will get stomped in NA but oceanic times should be good for us, we know FA will bring the pain but this still motivates our guild to go and WvW longer knowing we will be beating on people not doors and gates.

Hi all!No update this week, both Pyro and I had some RL stuff come up, that said we will be bringing you the latest patch update this week, well our take on it anyway!
and we might be able to sneak something else in too!

We seriously still going on about spawn camping. doesn’t everyone know there are three exits to every spawn… I have yet to see any server effectively spawn camp (which means cover all three exits)

Is it just that people don’t know of the three exits, or are single minded and see people at one and keep running out to die…

Good lord, building that WP in TCBL Hills was a nightmare tonight. Kudos to the mostly FA folks screwing with us there – your small group stuff is pretty tight, with us pretty much trading fights in the small groups. That fight with AVTR in Water Camp was amazing as well, lasted for-freaking-everrrrrrrr.
