Seriously… The maps are not capped during Aussy primetime… There is a timezone after ours..
We have full servers as well… I can provide video evidence of the large scale fights and wait times we have during our prime time… of course staying up last night waaay past my wife approved bed time showed me the issue your all raving about… But its not us Aussies…
It doesn’t matter who it is. Americans, Aussies, EUs, Asians. Who cares? The scoring system is terrible and the matches are being completely decided by one side being able to all-cap the maps with no resistance. Anyone who is ok with that can’t call anyone else selfish.
Sure it matters, when you label and issue to a specific set of players.
I totally agree that there is an issue here with WvW, the issue might be that servers arn’t thinking global, the issue might be the unfairness of a keep with no defense netting the same reward as a keep that took a 3hour siege to take, but the issue is not the Oceanic players.
The quicker we stop blaming each other, and do something about it the better…

Of course you want to keep the status quo. Right now, U.S primetime is completely meaningless and the entire game is decided by Australians logging in during their primetime.
Most of us U.S players are just asking for U.S primetime and Aussie primetime to be equal in terms of point contribution to the final score since all-capping the map is mysteriously (sarcasm) so much easier during the aussie primetime…Who is really being selfish here?
Facts… Until Anet supply you raw numbers its hearsay.
Aussy prime time here, we have ques to get into EB and Borderlands, have intense fights to take objectives (man repeating myself.. anyone looked at the TZ after Oceanic. The big gap between Oceanic and EU…)
The problem isn’t that forts can be taken at night, the problem is that taking a fort without having to fight gives you the same number of points in the tally.
I run an Australian guild in an Australian alliance, and I do understand and think this point out of everything is very valid.
That said, until Anet gives us a list of players active based on times of the day, its a useless argument.
I can vouch for IoJ that we in the AUS prime time sit in ques to get into the borderlands and don’t get me started in getting into EB. So on my server at least, its not a group of 15-20 people taking everything.
Infact this week against SoS and ET, there has been epic fights in borderlands and EB for our entire prime time.
I do agree that if we can take keeps with no resistance, that should not be worth as much as if you require 100 people to take a keep because its defended by likewise people and it takes you 3hours to take the keep, Versus 15mins of only NPCs. That said, its not the case (at least for our matchup) We can’t take keeps in 15mins, there are defenders, it takes us organization, siege equipment, multiple strike forces, just like it does US Prime time.
if anything its the TZ after the Oceanic
Am I the only one that thinks… hey its only been three weeks since launch….
As one of the WvW commanders that was on the ET map when the Orb was taken (IoJ here) we were on the west side, and kept 40+ ET busy while the orb was taken
That said, it felt good to see the orb taken, even if it wasn’t by IoJ. Great work SoS.
Aye, coming from WAR, Planetside, PotBS, do need more “managerial/leadership” tools. ATM the current tools really do lend themselves towards the zerg. Still find it hard to understand why we can’t see our guild on the map, it is called Guild Wars after all. I’m sure it will get there, after all the game is only 3 weeks old.
You can draw on the map and your group will see it but it only lasts 5 or so seconds.
I can understand where the OP is coming from, but since the game is called Guild Wars, I always run around the WvW lakes with my guild. With a guardian, my own focus(its actually pretty awesome in wvw) and an ele, I’m running at 33% + speed out of combat the whole time. synergy is the key. having played (@Levetty) in WvW (every night) its all about groups, and its all about your group working together. I would rather spec and have abilities setup so that when we get into combat I bring a world of mass confusion, and have the guild/group working together to make sure we all get there before the fight is over.

#2. There are 3 exits to each Spawn point (non-home maps) and all three entrances come out quite far and not easily linked up from the main.

Hi Saiyge,
Can I suggest checking out www.isleofjanthir.net its our community server that has a listing of quite a few of the guilds on the server (including mine ;)
you just mind find what your looking for there!
Hi,
Lets make this short and sweet :)
We are currently looking for 5 active WvW orientated people to Join Avatar Dynasty. we are part of the Conviction alliance and play an integral role in the Oceanic timeslot.
Spots are currently limited, as we are not zerg based, and base our playstyle off highly risky and coordinated tactics, and are looking for like minded players.
If this is you, head to http://www.avatardynasty.com and place in an application.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
If you are an Oceanic player who does not fit this style, but are looking for a guild, check out – http://www.isleofjanthir.net the WvW community forums for IoJ, that contains multiple Oceanic guilds that are looking for more members.
Mass invisibility is not worth it when you look at Time Warp
but it has its uses, especially since it doesn’t require your allies to run through one exact location (which is sometimes harder to organize that you think
iMage applies a single stack of Confusion, even with full condition damage it is extremely weak compared to other Phantasms. iDuelist is far superior for condition damage with Sharper Images.
Totally my main issue with the iMage! It feels ‘off’ to me that the the duelist’s auto-attack is so potent and, if you go 15 in Dueling, it easily stacks 4-5 bleeds on a foe. Meanwhile, the iMage strikes so slowly, a single target, has no combo field with it, and does a meager 1-stack of confusion with no traits to improve it. Torch could definitely use some love in PvE.
The advantage of the iMage is that it does a 10second stack of confusion. In the world of confusion, thats huge. Especially in PvP, not so much in PvE.
Leading with the Mage confusion, you can push your confusion stacks that extra bit higher before using him for that extra shattering confusion
Agreed that the attack is slow, but <3 the 10sec duration.
When you are in WvW are you running around solo, or do you join a group (including comms)
WvW solo, your going to get creamed, that WvW, not just your stat boost. I’ve seen and had many lower level people in my WvW groups, and they are just as effective, the key though is to be in a group, preferably one that target fires, and has communication with the server WvW.
p.s. Also make sure your using your dodges, and learn the AoE effects and what they do, I’ve seen many people new to WvW die in seconds because they don’t understand what that pretty purple bubble is doing around them, or that water fountain over there is doing.
could you maybe give me an example of what you mean by “playstyle”?
Play style is how you like to play, do you like to be ranged and do high burst of damage, or prefer to DoT them up and see them run away and die, do you prefer to be in the thick of it slashing it out, are you someone who chases the highest possible single damage hit, or looking to make your opponents so confused they rage quit the game. Are you a solo player, or prefer to play in a small team, big team, zerg.
Are you looking for PvE build, PvP, WvW build, are you the kind of player that likes a particular element of the class (confusion, illusions, etc)
Moving back to what you have currently mentioned, you mentioned that you like ranged but are opting for a sword based on the damage output. Which would you prefer. Also how are you comparing damage outputs, are we looking at experience in the field, raw numbers, min/maxing, gut feel.
A great build is an individual thing, sure there are “vanilla” builds that are the “rage” but I’ve always found making a build that suits your play style > changing your play style to suit a build.
:)
Could you tell us a bit more about your play style, the mesmer has quite a few builds that all play very differently (you can find alot of them in this forum) if you let us know how you like to play, we can help match one to your play style
If your looking at IoJ server, check out http://www.isleofjanthir.net which has listed some of the more prominent AUS guilds on the server. (we have a good AUS prime time force)
Which also includes ours
Every day, my server captures and upgrades the various forts and towers in our territory.. and every night all the Australians wake up, roll in, and take everything with hardly any effort.
if anything, pity them, they paid money to play alone, no figthing, no nothing…WvE borefest
arrive a bit late -> see other people took everything on the map and there isnt a single enemy on the map -> go do PvE for the rest of the day
honestly, I cant understand how arent they the ones complaining…
Not sure where your source is on that one, coming from IoJ and a AUS alliance, we have big fights every night, yesterday we were up against Storm and GoM, lots of epic fighting during our prime time. We win some nights, we lose some nights, I have yet to see this “ghost town” WvW. (hopefully we won’t get to see it!)
IoJ has a low US pop atm so no wait times into combat, we have a strong Overnight presence that is keeping us high in the rankings. The US guilds are well organized but lack the numbers of US prime time.
With the 24 hours matchups this might pose an issue, but these are not the standard that will be WvWvW. Over a 2 week period, the initial server reset will be a drop in the water in regards to points that are generated over the 2 weeks.
Point to ponder.
I’m not sure I consider ether one as hardcore or casual.
-
A group of hardcore players can succeed at both and casual players can be effective in both. Just because wvw benefits from having an organized force doesn’t mean John Q can’t zone in, ask “where’s the fight?”, and be effective by joining that organized force.
-
Well.. provided John isn’t going to run around solo and get mad when a mob finds him. Or chase runners to far. Or run into a twenty guys alone, die, then scream “WHY DIDN’T YOU FOLLOW ME!?” Oh John.. why do you have to be Rambo?
-
I guess my point is this. Being casual doesn’t mean being stupid.
+1
Casuals can definitely make a mark in WvW, but there has to be a realization that WvW needs teams to work together, I know no guild group that will turn down anyone else joining in on their operation (as long as they don’t do a “John”)
I think the issue stems from the fact that you can’t just jump in as a casual go where you want in WvW, especially with the guild groups and zerg. Might I suggest next WvW you jump into send a /m asking if any groups have a spot for a dependable warrior. And watch the invites come in. Even better, jump on their voice comms and get the full WvW experience without the need to be hardcore
What time zone are you looking for?

IoJ server. We are part of the Conviction alliance (4 aussy guilds)
Feel free to check us out or message me with any questions
Milk, you can always use those 10 supplies to repair door/wall if no siege weapons around to build.
Planetside had the right Idea.
You would gain Commander EXP while you were a leader of a group only. And would gain exp based on what that group did.
So you knew that a Commander level 5 (the highest you could get in Planetside) has lead many groups, and achieved alot.
This sort of system gets rid of gold costs, or people who can just play 12 hours a day, as it requires others to actually group with you, and face it, if you suck people arn’t going to group with you for long
IMO, this could be easily added to GW2 to help us identify true commanders, the ones that actually lead the troops.
