I’ve pugged over 400 fractals between two characters. Scale 38 on warrior, 22 on guardian. I’d say my success rate is something like 95%, maybe more.
Last night I pugged a scale 2 with a level 12, 20, 56, 80 and myself at 80. Everyone besides myself had never stepped foot into a fractal. Our only problem fractal was oddly the swamp. It was a very smooth run.
something like kicking at jade maw can’t be justified by any reasons!
do notice that the members involved already finish up 3 stage and will deserve their reward after the bonus stage!
nometter how rude or offensive he is, kicking him just to deny his reward is just evil!!
these people that randomly kicks people, especially at the end of a dungeon to deny someones reward should be reported and banned!!
Couldn’t agree more. If you put up with the person through the 3 fractals that actually take skill, then let them get their reward. Kicking at the maw is the exact same as kicking just before the person gets to the chest.
If the problem is behavioural, and I am in the position to kick, I would give them one warning. And I would never kick at the maw unless they went afk or completely batpoop insane.
I want to start off by talking about the gems to gold trading. 1 gold is equivalent to 1 US Dollar. seeing as 10 Dollars gets you 800 gems which gets you about 11 gold. now with that out of the way lets move on. The legendary items sell from 1000-6000 gold that is litarlly in Dollars $1000-$5000! THAT IS INSANE for a computer rendered fancy sword. this needs to change immediatelly there are hundreds of these bafoons selling them at these prices. im sticking with masterwork and rare stuff until they drop in price (if they ever do). and to make things worse the only players even capable of purchasing such items are those that buy there gold from these dreaded gold farming sellers. ArenaNet this issue is feeding the bot issue. i do sincerely hope this issue is somehow fixed.
Lol, you’re going to wear masterwork and rares because legendaries are expensive? Do you realize there is an Exotic tier?
So today I spent around 2 hours farming to make some good so I can start buying my t6 mats to start working on my legendary. Imagine my surprise when I went to buy powerful blood with the good that I made, and discovered that Powerful blood is now up to 30!! (thirty) silver a pop?? That’s more expensive than some lodestones or cores!! After 2 hours of farming I was only able to buy around 5 blood while still being able to bank some cash. Oh yeah and after 2 hours of farming in magic find gear, I collected *3*of my own………………………
How the hell is the average player supposed to afford to get 250 of these mats when they are so high? Why are they skyrocketing so much? 2 hours of farming to be able to only buy single digits of a t6 mat (not even a lodestone)!?
Powerful blood has doubled in price in the last few days.
Do your clovers first if you can. You’ll get a bunch of T6 mats from that. Then you’ll know how many T6 mats you really need.
Congratulations!
The harpy fractal always makes me groan, it’s the trying to evade knockback attacks on tiny spaces that’s frustrating. I play a thief character and am not very experienced, but I find most helpful is equipping two pistols for skills #4 Headshot and #5 Black Powder, as well as Smokescreen in utility.
Blinds from Black Powder and Smokescreen mitigates damage, and when as I see a red circle appear, using Headshot will interrupt the cast. I always try to stand on a platform with a suitable backup platform behind, so if I don’t interrupt in time, hopefully I’ll land on a platform instead of flying away. Don’t always get the right distance and angle all the time though. >.<
Reading from the above suggestions, it’s probably easier to just move out of the way instead of trying to control a position. Or maybe rush past with stealth.
Thanks for the ideas.
If there is a harpy that is aggro’d, then someone just needs to melee him. If you see everyone hitting on one harpy, but the next harpy is shooting at people, run to him and melee.
Yes it’s harder to do in a pug because people tend to try and range them. My team rarely ever falls because the harpies do not use knockback on us. They also don’t do the ridiculously powerful arrow shots. They just stand there and duke it out with you and they lose.
A week passed and not a single word about Ascended gear returning back to where it belongs, FOTM.
GW2 was made with this little concept of possiblity to acquire your gear whatever you do. Ascended gear doesn’t belong solely to FoTM, infusions do.
He’s not saying make amulets only available in FotM. He’s saying make them also available there. You know, since you need agony resistance in FotM.
Aggro with melee and the harpies don’t use knockback. If more than 1 harpy is aggro’d, someone just needs to get to it and melee. I get through this part without falling once all the time. It’s really pretty quick and painless if you do it right.
Wait…people actually spend MONEY on the infusion slots for non-infused ascended rings? When you can go run like…two levels of Fractals and get one for virtually free?
People will spend months of grinding and MUCH more gold for a skin with no extra stats. So yes, people will spend gold for 5 extra stats. If you do it to every piece it adds up. And you might as well do it as the gear comes out instead of all at once so the cost is spread out.
Wrong the current infusions are only blue and they said there will be better infusions over time. So its a waste tbh.
Also +5 power is nothing. Lets say you have 3k attack and add another 5 power its ~0,16% more damage. So even if you have +5 in every slot possible one day, its only ~1% more damage.
Yep, it’s call min/maxing.
Also, where did where did you see them say they’re releasing better ones? Not saying you’re lying, I’d just like to read the info.
You need 4 of those ridiculous infusions to increase your Crit chance by 1% – Dont think i will be investing thank you very much.
Actually 4 × 5 prec = 20 precision
1% crit = 21 precision so its still not quite there
Many people will. Many people are at endgame and have nothing else to spend on.

i get a tonne of crap some runs, and other runs i’ll get bugger all. it happens.
Yep. I got 3 rare out of 2 runs last night. One guy got 2 Exotics, numerous rares and a fractal skin from 1 run. RNG.
I’ve never received more than 1 exotic per run and still haven’t got a fractal skin, but I have runs with good luck as well. Twice I’ve gotten Exotics with a Sigil of Bloodlust, not to mention many other Exotics and enough rings to outfit an army of alts.
Sounds like you’re in some crappy guilds. I get that each guild wants your points but making demands like that is overboard. As long as you’re representing sometimes, getting them points and not just taking advantage of the benefits I really don’t see a problem with alternating guilds.
1. I’m generally annoyed by the fact kittenty PvE gear is required for WvW: e.g. Exotics. It’s annoying as hell to grind mats or grind $ to get gear for WvW. However, I already knew this going in when ANet announced that WvW would use PvE combat (which kittening kitten .
So you’re mad they even let Exotics in WvW? What do you believe should be the top tier? Or maybe you’d rather it have the SPvP setup. Do you realize even with that setup there will still be no fair fights simply because of the nature of WvW. Technically even in SPvP there are no perfectly fair fights due to class and build disparity. The only possible way for a real fair fight in WvW is to give everyone the same exact gear with the same exact class and build and only let groups with equal amounts of people fight each other. There are no perfectly fair fights in this game, get over it.
2. Existing Ascended gear already pisses me off because, again, it is usable in WvW and provides a tier of stat increase. Best part is that it requires an even more asinine gated PvE dungeon grind. Why the kitten should I have to do something kitten so I can play the game?
You can get Ascended rings and amulets from the Laurel vendor, in fact the Laurel vendor is the ONLY (besides Triforge) place to get Ascended amulets. If you want to spend the gold you can get an Ascended backpiece with very minimal time in fractals, many people had backpieces before they were at scale 10. And backpieces have such low stats it really doesn’t matter except for the Agony Resistance.
As more Ascended gear is released there will be various ways to obtain it. Including WvW as stated by Anet. I’m sure some will complain that they need to go into WvW to get a piece gear that is most useful for a particular dungeon.
The main people I feel for are the people that like doing Fractals, but there is no Ascended gear that fits their build. So they must change their build or wear non-optimal equipment just to advance in Fractals. The WvW whining is just so invalid on so many levels.
Quite frankly the reason for all this complaining is to due to only a few select stat setups being available for ascended gear. Actually if ascended gear was released with all the stat setups available as seen with exotic gear this would cut down a lot on the whining most probably. Also just excluding these items from WvW altogether would be other option since as you said they’re mostly intended for Fractals, but that also leads to its own set of issues and whining. However, the amulets don’t offer Agony resistance so they’re not really for fractals, side-note.
WvW still is going to be a game of numbers and server participation, but the full set ascended items may throw wrinkle in an already semi-chaotic system. I also wouldn’t say that an argument of WvW is imbalanced so it’s fine if it becomes even more imbalanced holds much water. Just because you see a building on fire doesn’t mean you should throw gasoline on it; in the same way if WvW is horribly imbalanced it doesn’t mean that Anet should continue to add to that imbalance.
The complaining most definitely would not stop. As you can see from the old and recent posts from this thread alone, the complaint is that Ascended is allowed in WvW at all.
As far as the amulets, you have to infuse the AR. Unless this not possible for some reason.
Lastly, WvW is imbalanced by design. This is not a negative thing. To truly balance it would take away the fun and the volatility of a simulated war. I was simply pointing out the irony that people are complaining that Ascended will make WvW imbalanced when WvW has never been balanced. There are far more imbalanced battles than Exotic vs Ascended everyday, and most of the situations have absolutely nothing to do with gear.

There was no such thing as a fair fight in WvW long before Ascended. Why are people assuming everyone is wearing full Exotics. That is not case, never has been, never will be.
With logic that Ascended shouldn’t be allowed in WvW, then no upgraded rarity should be allowed and everyone has to be level 80 and wear whites. Even after all that, there still won’t be fair fights in WvW simply because of how WvW functions, it’s a war. If you want a fair match, PvP was the only option before Ascended and still is.
just take an eye on asura and evade sideways the agony shots.
This fractal used to be more fair.
Asura shots could once be evaded rolling toward boss for 100% success, but in order to remove a small glitch they punished legit players as Always….
I haven’t done many fractals since the patch. You can no longer dodge toward the asura to evade?
You need 750 piles of crystalline dust to make the triforge pendant. Which is currently the only way anyone is going to get an ascended amulet (for another week or two anyway).
The Triforge has been upgraded to Ascended?
I formally request a test server that allows players to insta make any character to 80, with any gear, with full unlocked map etc.. Obviously this server would not “Save” any data, it would just be a one time thing you could do to test stuffs out and play with other players who dont want to grind to have fun. Since loot does not carry over or store, no problems. Just purely for fun. Bump if interested
They probably already have this. It is called a ‘Candidate’ or ‘Stage’ server. I have tested other games this way, so I’m sure this game has it too. It’s basically a standalone server that possibly a few hundred people have access to. It gets content updates early for players to test. There are probably hotkey and debug cheats to easily simulate various situations that will come up. Candidate content will often be patched dozens of times before it goes live. Yes, some bugs will make it through, it is inevitable. There are also deadlines, whereas known bugs will make it through, this will happen too. However, you would be surprised how many bugs are caught in this process. There are hundreds of bugs caught by these testing teams, who are often regular players who have signed an NDA and do not get paid, that you and I will never see.
That extra 10 AR will be great for fractals. But it sucks having to spend a months worth of Laurels on it even though it doesn’t fit you build, but you need the AR.
Every ten fractal scales count toward a different daily. So if I have a character at scale 30, I can get 4 dailies. One at 2, 4, 6 and 8, one at 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. One at 20, 22, 24, 26 and 28. Last one at 30.
An alt will be on a totally different system. One character’s dailies will not affect another. So you can do your 10, 20 and 30 dailies then switch to an alt and do those same dailies.
Wow, cool sets so far!
How do you get those wings Nihilus
I dislike fractals as well.
They were fun the first few times, when I ran them with 4 other guildmates on Teamspeak.
Afterwards, the novelty wore off.
Because of the level restrictions, it’s difficult to continue up the level ladder consistently. Unless you have a dedicated group of 5, you’ll have to play with randoms.
I have never tried fractals with randoms. I think about it, and I’m afraid to do it, because most fractals seem like it would be a nightmare to do with pugs WITHOUT voicechat, and many fractals aren’t just “go in and clear,” but some require more than just “fight mob, move on,” which makes me wary of pugging this for fear of constant wipes and time consumation.
Dungeons like AC, CM, TA, can be pugged for the most part since they are mostly “fight mob, move on.” I just don’t see fractals with pugs as a pleasant, fun experience. I see it as a potential nightmare.
This is why I’ve neglected fractals for a month, but due to the monthly, I might just have to bite the bullet and try pugging, and just pray that everyone knows how to run the fractals.
I pugged my warrior to 30 a while back. Now I’ve got my guardian to 20 pugs only. Sure there are times when it’s frustrating, but most of the time things go quite well. My guild rarely does fractals.
I haven’t heard anything from Anet on possibly changing the kick feature to 3 votes. It seems this issue comes up often enough that it definitely needs addressed.
Either way, at least report these guys. I’d contact the other guy and make sure he reports them as well.
As an organized group, you have 3 advantages.
1) You never have to look for a group. You call them up on the phone and ask when they want. This saves time. And lets you run whenever you want.
2) You never have to worry about the quality of a group. If all your friends are good, or at least consistent, you know exactly what you can do, when to opt out, and which dungeons run faster with your group. This, once again, saves you time. That and you don’t have to give people instructions every single run.
3) You don’t have to wait for people to get their rings. You can carry your friends and honestly if you don’t think the difficulty is hard, you don’t need AR and can do them at higher difficulty, giving you more chances than the pug player to get the ring you want. Also you only need 20 PFRs, and a few crystals to melt down into any ring you want with +5 AR. I don’t even care about the random drop anymore, I just hunt for PFRs and melt away with all the crystals I get.
Since time = money, how is this not in favor of premade groups?
This assessment is spot-on. I don’t think anyone is relying on RNG to get the rings they want. If it happens, bonus! But most people are just getting their Pristines and buying them.
You’re also only at scale 22, at higher scales you will realize this dungeon highly favors organized non-pug groups.
Stability, reflect and stand in areas with a better chance of showing the circles. Or just stay mobile I guess. Once you’re used to it, you’ll be flying through that level again.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the Ascended thing. I don’t know what’ll happen there. If they decide that stuff like Mjolnir etc. are staying exotic then Legendaries might become sought after just for the permanent ‘best in slot’.
They’ll be sought after to an extent, but I don’t think I’m alone in rolling my eyes a bit whenever the legendary greatswords show up. I saw The Dreamer the other day and was really surprised, which was cool, but between the TP and the amount of people with it, I can see people deciding to buy a chainsaw for a 20th of the cost of a legendary, even if they have to build an ascended sword to put the skin on.
Lol, yeah. I was in a pug fractal about a week ago with 3 people that had Twilight. Items like Mjolnir seems like they should get a buffs as well. That’s still a lot of stuff to make that weapon, I’d probably already have Mjolnir if it weren’t for Legendaries getting buffed. So I’m getting Juggernaut. Many people already got Mjolnir when it was just a choice of skins. Now it turns out, going with Mjolnir may have cost them stats as well. Mjolnir is so freakin cool though!
Give it time. The status of legendaries is plummeting now they’re on the TP and so many people have them (especially the greatswords) so people are going to look elsewhere. A skin that is no longer available, requires no lodestones, has unique sound effects, and was available only in the second month of the game being released? Sounds pretty appealing to me.
I think Legendaries will always be very sought after, especially after the stats are buffed.
Just an update, yesterday I started trying to make Colossus in the mystic forge, 100 rares = 0, today i tried again, after my 4th try i got Colossus!
I now own Juggernaut^^
Wow, congrats! I’m surprised you got it so quickly using rares. I’ve heard of people using many more than that and not getting a precursor. About how much total did it cost? Better yet, mind sharing what rares you used?
I am just now getting close to Colossus being the last thing I need, but I refuse to pay >500g at this point. Hopefully no one buys them at that price and they lose money.
What new recipe was added?
I hear you man, it gets pretty annoying. So many of the stupid cheats are more hassle than just doing it right. The boss in Uncategorized has to be in the right spot himself to not hit you, that spot just doesn’t always work and isn’t worth it to try. Same with the Dredge fractal, getting into the center cage is not a problem for any team. Same with various other cheats, like the last time I actually fought Mossman. I decided to fight him about a week ago before everyone had a chance to get up in the tree. You would think I came into their homes and murdered their families, I couldn’t believe the rage over such an easy fight.

Fractal dailies are character bound. I can do a level 10 daily on one character then switch to another character and get the level 10 daily again.
People dont seem to realize even if they made precursers easy to get, the price of a legendary will stay roughly the same (actually it has the potential to become MORE expensive).
All it will do is shift demand on the rare materials required for legendaries, such as lodestones. If the lodestone price doubles it wipes away all the ‘savings’ you got from the precursor.
Why would it shift demand? Seems to me the people that want precursors also want the lodestones and other rare mats. So it should roughly be similar demand depending on the popularity of the Legendary.
It irritates me when people run MF gear in dungeons…
If you got the time troll them. I took off all my armor during a CoF run. I said I’m going to see if i can do this dungeon with no armor on. Like you would think I died a lot people started to rage. Then I said if this guy is going to run MF gear I’m going to run Skin Gear, It’s just as effective.
Needless to say they got my point and at least I had fun
Huh? So you took off your gear and died a lot and that proved a point? “Just as effective” lol…. While the MF guy was probably doing the most dps in the group while not dying.
I ran a pug level 10 fractal daily last night. At the end one guy chirps in for the first time “how bout a little less MF next time eh”. As far as I know just one person was using MF food. Everyone was like ???. This coming from the guy who died the most and was not an impressive Thief, I think it was his first level 10. I don’t use MF anymore, just not my thing, but I find the people hating on it in places like super easy level 10 daily fractal are the people that actually suck.
It was most likely bugged by a guardian. If so, then it’s a known bug.
Yep, I was taking some guildies though low level fractals last night. Picked up a pug who was tier 15 on his main so he knew it all. I didn’t mention I was much higher than him as it really didn’t matter. He was mad we weren’t glitching the Archdiviner. I don’t get the point of having to glitch everything just because you can. Most of these fights are easy enough legit, what’s so bad about doing it that way. It’s annoying enough that I literally never get to fight Mossman anymore. I hope when they fix his glitch they buff the crap out of him too, just so he can have a little revenge.
I didn’t have so hard a time with this battle through the 20’s. Except 29 seemed like a spike in difficulty. We made it through after a couple wipes though.
I have a question for anyone that might know. What is the best way to take down the bosses shield? Does it have anything to do with dps? Or is it basically just a hit count where needs 30 hits to drop or something? Just wondering if I should equip a faster but weaker weapon for this.
Honestly I wouldn’t rely on the RNG anyway. Just grind out your 10 pristine relics. If you happen to get crazy lucky that you get a ring drop and it fits your build then awesome, but don’t count on it.
I am sick of people kittening every single day for same kitten. If you were not absolutely chronic complainer, you would finish this achievement in 2 hours. Hell that’s real issue, you have only one month to finish it.
Exactly. I did 9 fractals in 2 hours last night.
The first time myself and three of my guildies did WC, we were all level 80. We needed a pug so we got one from lfg site, turned out he was level 40. We thought about booting him and getting a level 80. But we kept him and it was a good decision. He had run AC many times before on his other character, so he knew how things worked. He died some, definitely didn’t have the dps and utility we had. But he played well and knew the land and turned out to be very helpful. So never judge a book by it’s cover.

Good stuff!
I had a peculiar bug in Cliffside fractal a few weeks back. I was playing with 4 of us from the guild (we were on mumble) and 1 pug who communicated via in game chat.
So one of the guildies fell off the side of the cliff from the chest seal area while he had the hammer. I went all the way back down and rezzed him, however the hammer wasn’t with him. I went up to check the pedestal it sometimes spawns on, not there. So all 5 of us go on the hunt for the hammer, it was our 3rd fractal after all. After close to 10 minutes of searching, the pug chimes in “I see it!” ….“oh crap”. We go to his position and he points it out. There it is floating in the air about 10 feet out from the western cliff. We then proceed to climb above it and jump whilst trying to grab it as we fell to our deaths. Long story short, we couldn’t get the hammer and gave up….

Nice Guide.
However, “Agony is only associated with the end boss of each fractal starting at L10.” is a little misleading as the first fight in Cliffside has agony too.
Oh Cliffside is an exception that I mentioned
^_^ You also seem to have forgotten to mention the fact the Thief can solo the bomb path on the Dredge Fractal. Since they only pick up the bombs if they are aggroed, a Thief can use stealth to run up, plant a bomb, then run back.
Best way I’ve seen this done is to use Hide in Shadows first, pick up a bomb, drop a shadow refuge and wait for it to stick, then leg it like Horus himself is after you, plant the bomb and run the hell back. The 50% speed boost trait when stealthed is needed to do this though (I think), and the extra second of stealth Trait is also useful.
It’s the only thing thieves are good for in FOTM tbh!
Without a Thief, I would highly recommend doing the bomb run naked or with looted blues. You will wipe a LOT if you do the good ol’ bum rush and you don’t want broken armour.
Oh, and the Dredge Power Suit’s Agony can be blocked entirely with any skill that blocks 3 attacks, such as a Guardian’s Shield of Wrath (Focus 5) or an Elementalist’s Arcane Shield.
I love when there is a Thief that solo’s that part. However when there isn’t a Thief, I find what works well is assigning 2 bomb runners and everyone else fights and takes aggro. Go until all the bombs are gone, then run to the bottom until more bombs respawn. Yes it’s a little slower but I find we wipe much less or not at all.

Which trait gives Vigor on crit?
Wrong ~ Just did fotm 20, I personally got a non-infused ring, but other person in our group got an infused one. So they can drop.
That’s what they are saying.
Non-infused drop from level 10-24. Infused drop from 20+
Guardians do make fractals easier, at least that has been my experience. My main, a warrior, is at scale 30. I mostly pug and I find that the harder fractals are more difficult without a Guardian. This is why I’m currently leveling a Guardian, plus they look fun. I’ll never have to worry about not having a guardian in the group, and if we do have a guardian I can use my warrior.
Many of you sound lucky to not experience DCs yourself or very often with your party. But they DO happen quite often and are a real issue. There is a reason that ANet is addressing the issue this month. Because it is a genuine problem.
And yes, most fractals can easily be done by four people. But I too am a little bewildered that this is included in the monthlies again. There is an obvious problem that affects many player’s ability to reliably run fractals. Until this issue is fixed, why make this a monthly requirement?
I’m just waiting for the inevitable monthly requirement of ‘10 Purchases from the Gem Store’. :P
Agreed, it is a genuine problem. However dc’s are still quite uncommon in actual play. Sure there are the occasional threads here where someone says they’re on fractal scale 4 and they’ve seen 15 dc’s already. Either they are flat out lying or they’re playing with someone who has a bad network. At scale 30 I pug and play with the guild sometimes. Literally no one I’ve talked to about has experienced that many dc’s. 7 fractals is the quickest of any Monthly I’ve yet to see.
So is this a good skill versus the Grawl fractal boss? I’m having trouble with him at scale 30. When the Lava Elementals come out, are they using projectile attacks?
Do these dc problems happen to people that don’t dc often? I’ve ran with my team several times and it has only happened once to someone who actually has an ongoing internet problem even outside of fractals. I was starting to think that the dc problem is on the players’ end, but I could be wrong.
I have wondered this myself. My guess is a good percentage of dc’s are user end. However, regardless of the reason of the dc, people need to be able to get back into a dungeon after after a dc. While I can honestly say dc’s are generally rare, it does suck when it happens. At 26+ it’s often a death sentence for the rest of the party depending on the fractal.
EDIT: Thought I’d also add that after doing several hundred fractals, I have never personally had a dc in a fractal.
