Thank you once again everyone for a positive and helpful discussion. I have decided to roll a mes and war and it is my long, like REALLY long time goal to level them up (maybe like 1 level a week). In the mean time, I will play other games
Or if you want to play CoF now, just start your own group and be playing the dungeon within a couple minutes.
Dead, or just really bored. Celestial stats….blah. Skins for achievements, eh fine. Permanent account bonuses for achievements….now I’m an achievement kitten and should’ve been whoring this whole time. Guess I’ll at least be busy doing all Living Story content, doing all jp’s, mini dungeons, goggles etc instead of dungeons now.
Since I’ve been an AP kitten from the start, I will laugh at you as I enjoy my marginally better magic find that really won’t make much of a difference at all in drops! And I wonder how many of hours of CoF I’d have to farm in order to see even one gold more of earnings from that extra gold find.
But in all seriousness, they fixed the ele skill Flame Wall. That alone makes my day.
Yeah it’s probably next to nothing, but I’m still going to want it (my problem I know, just wish I’d gotten all those achievements I missed now). Plus the xp gain for alt leveling is cool. Just grumpy about dungeons still…
If you guys still have hope that ANY patch will have proper dungeon changes maybe re evauluate your expectations.
There’ll probably be the usual unlisted exploit fixes.
And 25% more Dredge per update protocol.
My heart skipped for a second….then flatlined again.
Doesn’t that mean you’re dead?
Maybe they fixed cliffside newest feature.

Yep join us! I’ve been running new people through p3 almost nightly and doing a p4 tonight.
My heart skipped for a second….then flatlined again.
I’m generally fine with 1 good thief in the run. And I’ve taken my guardian in place of the mesmer (1 guard/4 war) and gone just as fast, only difference is no portal at the rocks.
You’d be hard pressed to find a group to let a guard go, but our mes dropped out and we’d been at it for a while together, so I asked if they mind I try my guard in place of the mes and they were cool with it. So we brought in another warrior and things went just as smooth.
(edited by laharl.8435)
Thanks for your kind suggestions guys. I’m not even trying to farm CoF, normal dungeons with PUGS don’t want rangers anymore (or any other class). When did GW2 get so elitist?
Um, I end up with rangers in my groups all the time. No one cares in non-farm runs.
(edited by laharl.8435)
I’ll run dungeons with ya
the best thing to do is start your own dungeon groups on the lfg site. include “any class welcome” in your post and soon you’ll be surrounded by like-minded people. if anyone leaves after they see your class, well they probably wouldn’t be much fun to play with anyway.
Yep, takes less than a minute for my non-war/mes groups to fill.
Are you guys, like DnT and Define, keeping your mesmer build SUPER SECRET?
I only get like 16K damage on feedback hits.
This is Dhuum Stucker [DS].
30/30/0/0/10, mesmers simply lack of damage traitsCongrats. Just wonder how long it would take 4R/1M to do this.
About 25 seconds in a flawless run.
PS: If you ask Guang.
We were trying 1 mes/4 war. But we were suffering from bad RNG and someone (me) getting kicked by Lupi in the first phase. I think we were consistently under 1 minute if we actually finished the fight, maybe even under 50 seconds if we had good RNG AND if I were dodging worth a crap. But I don’t see how we could’ve gotten under 40 seconds.
(edited by laharl.8435)
This is ridiculous. So if you fail at the start, you have 0 chance to finish it? :|
No, I failed the first time. We ran in too fast and got downed by the lifesteal it does on the NPC. Went back in and killed it in less than a minute.
How do you deal with tthe gazillion spiders running around?
They didn’t come in close, they stayed at a distance and our reflects protected us. It worked the same as if we hadn’t failed initially.
I’ll have to check it out from the pc later. Guess it looked like he did the AOE late in phase 2, letting you drop him deep enough into phase 3 that there was less a chance of him floating up. Either way, pretty awesome.

I watched from my phone, so I couldn’t see everything. Looked like dream RNG coupled with flawless execution. Very nice!
I assume this is recent, as in post Feedback nerf?
(edited by laharl.8435)
Our attempt to finish Forward/UP =/ 6 attempts but no chance.
2 Warriors, 2 Guardians, 1 Necromancer
Well that was painful to watch, and I watched from my phone so I probably didn’t see everything you did wrong.
The whole point of reflect is to stand in it, don’t be on the same side the projectiles are coming from. Two guardians is plenty reflect to do this boss.
I love the name of the vid, “Unkillable Boss?”.
(edited by laharl.8435)
well i just did F/U with spiders and tree.. ( group fell apart after 1hr) for some reason when you clear the spiders in front of it every thing went fine.. then when we single target the tree about 100 spiders come at us dont know if it was a bug or not but more than the room full of spiders came no matter who hit the tree even if it was a single ( non bouncing shot ) ( with no pets or illusions) the whole freeking room came at us ,,, dont know if Anet changed this path f/u but it sucks …
Yes, they changed this boss a couple weeks ago. You can no longer range it from the entrance. The best option is melee (best option always was melee) and chain reflects, the boss can dies in under 1 minute. If you have no reflects than apparently kite and range works, although I haven’t tried that way.
So was doing CoF P1 …
stopped reading right here
why don’t you have a guild to do this with??
My guild of 15 bailed after the Nov15 patch. Been looking at Guilds, but just can’t seem to pick one. Another subject for another time.
Here’s another one. Last night guy decides this Engi had to go, this is after the first battle on Path 1. He actually typed “The Engi has to go” I said no, let him play. So BAM he’s gone. Whats he do? Lets in another Engi. Lol. Anyway, we still finished and he complained the whole way through; to slow, not enough DPS from everyone, bla bla bla. He was a Ranger BTW.
Anyhow, it’s all in fun. I’m fine tuning my Warrior, making money and getting the job done. Crits are in the upper 8000’s on 100Blades. Not sure how high they can go with a proper setup. I still have a ‘poor man’s’ lvl80 exotic amour and weapons set. This is why I’m running this path. I needs the monies.
P.S.: Note that I use the word Elite with quotes around them.
Thanks for reading.
50K+ with the right team and setup.
Anyone doing CoF p1 isn’t elite. Please stop using that word. They’re a bunch of nubblets who do the same stuff over and over and because of that they think they’re ‘good’.
And I keep telling people: don’t do pugs hmkay, pugs are bad.
This is an idiotic blanket statement. Just because there are lot of bad players in CoF doesn’t mean everyone that plays CoF is bad. There are bad (or just inexperienced) players in every dungeon in the game.
Hammer is already op if you use it right.
I’ll take an invite. IGN is Tryvari
It’s when they drop party or switch characters that boots the party, not leaving the dungeon. It’s a danger of pugging, there is no recourse, only prevention such as playing with people you trust or starting the instance yourself. Sucks to say deal with it, but that’s where we’re at.
So, when can we see this change?
You must be new here.
Nope, I’m not. It just didn’t sound like a ‘will eventually happen’ kind of fix, more of a will fix it pretty soon. Maybe next patch.
Yep, new here.
I came to conclusion that lupi projectile dont travel in straight direction since even though Im at the side of the circle I still get hit.
I dont think red circles should lie. Its like to dodge or not to dodge which could cause you to down if it didnt go your way.
The red circles aren’t lying, but if you get hit by the projectile before it splash lands, you take the damage.
The same can be seen in Aetherblade Retreat at the last boss. It shows the red circle, but if you stand in between Horrik and the circle the projectile can hit you instead of the ground. Lupi’s projectile’s however, aren’t a straight line.
Sometimes it’s wise to give your PUG a chance and see what they’re up to. It can be smarter than the common knowledge tactic. It can be smarter than your guild tactics. As an example, groups often insist that I stand in the huddle as they’ve always been in groups that huddle up for a pull. The huddle itself isn’t important. It’s the grouping of mobs for aoe that is important, so squishy classes can always take care of their own defense elsewhere as long as they maintain the killing zone and can maintain their group support.
It’s always funny to see people using common knowledge exploits that don’t work any more. The players insist you stand in specific spots and then die horribly when it doesn’t work. What a shame!
If mobs go to the person who is not in the stack, the whole concept is ruined. Like the guy who wants to range Alpha. He gets stuck in the crystal and dies or worse, Alpha goes to him and the whole strategy goes to crap.
But guardians are not allowed to use scepter now?
There are about 3 fights in the game where guardian should use scepter. Staff is acceptable for running trash, pulls, Empower and a few instances where Line of Warding is useful, never dpsing. The other 95% of the time, guardians should be meleeing.
What are these pics from?
Check out the sticky at the top of this page. Good luck!
So basically you are saying people to bring 3 berseker geared players and mesmer and guardian.Or you can’t kill the boss??One more boss that will turn into a pure zerg.Putting 0 thought into killing it.
It is just a dps check just like Dwayna but with ’’enrange’’ timer???
Yay one more path that will turn out to be like CoF P1.Anet made very ’’smart’’ decision….cough,cough..Not at all
Actually zerker has nothing to do with it. I was the only person in full zerker on my team and we still killed in less than a minute. Considering you can’t crit the boss, PVT is superior. You can also range it as another person mentioned that he solo ranged it.
It’s pretty bad if you wipe. It seems like so many of them still do melee so even with the reflection your group takes massive damage.
So, either get it right with melee first attempt or bring your ranged weapons out and condi removal/healing and kite around the room in a circle wearing the boss down.
You can still kill the boss after a wipe. A couple of us ran in too early the first time and got killed by the lifesteal the tree does on the NPC. Just run in, start chaining reflects and melee your hearts out. It dies really fast.

This whole post is a perfect example of why having a good guild is crucial in this game. My guild did a guild run (8 of us) through this JP. Made it easy and grief-free. I will say, however, that we killed every red dot we came across while we made our way to the top. Nothing personal, just kinda the point of WvW. We didn’t camp the top or anything, just killed as we passed. <— that’s the proper way to kill people in the JP.
Camping an area is honestly just lame. It’s frowned upon in FPS games, and its frowned upon here.
Actually camping high ground (or supply rich, choke points etc.) is a valid tactic in most FPS games. You think a valid tactic that competition teams engage in is weak, but you think 8 versus 1 ganking in GW2 is legit. In FPS, teams are equal, there are counter measures for campers. There is no counter measure for 8 vs 1.
FPS is a team A versus team B where there is an actual tactical advantage like you said. You can actually win the match. And camping is frowned upon. Never said it wasn’t a viable strategy in FPS, just…an annoying one. I mean, sit in one spot and click mouse when you see someone walk by = lame (but effective).
The JP isn’t a match, it’s a JP. You don’t win anything from camping the top. You are just a griefer at that point.
Killing people on your way to the top is very different from camping the top and constantly killing anyone who comes by. If you are on the path up the JP and you see 8 red dots coming, get out of the way, hide, I don’t care. We won’t hunt you down, but if you are within attacking distance, you will be attacked. PvP does not need to include griefing.
Heck, if we notice we’ve killed a certain person a couple of times, we will consciously stop attacking them because we don’t want to be jack-kittens. If they have the tenacity to keep attempting that JP then who are we to just keep killing them. We prove nothing other than the fact we are kitten-holes if we do that, and trust me, I’ve definitely been on the end that keeps being killed.
When the same group of 3-4 kill you for the 6th time, you start to think “OK guys, it’s obvious you can kill me, can’t you just let me finish the JP and move on with my life?”
Oh the irony of thinking it’s legit to 8 vs 1 against non-combatants, but not legit to camp in an FPS, when teams are equal and a good team can easily overcome campers.
snip
I wasn’t advocating camping the jp, if you’ve read any of my posts you’d know I am vehemently against it in this situation. I know I don’t want to be in that puzzle for hours trying to get the cache, I wouldn’t want to impose that punishment on others either. Some people do want to impede the progress of others, fine, it is a PvP area after all. But I still retain the right of thinking they’re kittens.
I personally don’t think killing everyone I pass in the jp is cool, many in this thread agree with me. You do think it is cool to kill them all, you have a bunch of people on your side too. I think you’re a kitten and you think I’m a carebear/crybaby, whatever. Just different opinions.

If you melee I don’t believe the boss AOE will get you. The real threat is spider projectiles. I helped a friend get this path last week. We made sure to use classes with projectile protection and chained them. We killed the boss in less than a minute. Everyone just stay in the Feedback, Wall of Reflection, Shield of the Avenger etc and melee away.
Fine, you consider ganking non-combatants trying to do Living Story content to be true PvP. My definition of real PvP is just different I guess. Have fun with that buddy, sadly you actually will, while your server loses because you’re doing important things.
Yep, we’re getting destroyed right now because I knocked the stuffing out of some carebears in the JP. How will we ever recover?
Well, perhaps you are just a singular griefer. What i can see on my server is whole zergs of people, camping JP while their own server not only keeps losing territory in WvW, but just lost the leading place (and if the tendency keeps, they will not take it back before reset).
Truth is, most of the people there are NOT interested in challenge, duels, PvP or their server’s standing. They came to farm ambients. The moment they see bigger resistance, they melt (and start behaving, waving hands, not attacking etc). The same people, when in bigger crowd, suddenly start acting completely differently.Do not call it PvP, because you will only be degrading that term.
Yeah, I’m actually in the same contest as his. There haven’t been many zergs. Most people are actually pretty cool. The gankers in there have proven to be less than skillful. They keep starting stuff, then die pretty quickly, even in 1 vs 1. The competent PvPers are playing actual PvP.

big thread here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/TA-F-U-spiders-change/page/3#post2268298
basically, best strat atm is to rush into melee range and chain anti projectile skills together and burn the boss down. High dps helps, but since you can’t crit PVT gear is actually viable.
What I don’t know is how to deal with it after you wipe. It may be possible to get the whole group to run through the spider into the boss and get your guardian/mesmer/ranger/thief etc to pop anti projectile skills and start killing it.edit: winston beat me -_-
Actually you can still melee stack after a wipe. A couple of us died on the first try because we ran in too fast and got killed by the lifesteal it does on the NPC. We had 2 guards and a mes, so plenty of reflection. We just ran in, popped reflection and chained them. It went very fast. Thanks to Nikaido for enlightening me on how to do this after the change.
That was very cool of your pug. Impressive feat as well.
There is a video in another thread of a ranger soloing after his group perished. I’m sure others have done it as well. People just need to adapt to the battle instead of complaining in the forum that the battle should be adapted to their skill level.
People used to think the permanent dungeons were hard too. A week from now everyone who wants the achievement will probably have it and the rage in the forum will look silly.
People raged over the holograms being killed too fast. They all want to grind out the achievement the first day even though they had an entire month. Now the maps are littered with untouched holograms and all those rage posts from the first day are just silly.
I’m really not upset with the developers for this decision, it’s more disappointment in the amount of griefing I’ve seen and heard about. I overestimated the community and thought we were better than that. =/
Better than what? PvPing inn a PvP zone?
The way I look at it is I don’t really enjoy the PvE nonsense that much. So this is a way of rewarding PvP players with loot bags.
Lol, this isn’t the way I saw it. Sure I got killed by groups a couple times, but every single griefer that started with me, I killed. So maybe you guys should go back to the zerg where you feel safe. None of you could fight worth a crap 1 vs 1. Literally not a single one of you had any real battle skill. You guys think WvW is real PvP, when it’s nothing but a numbers game. And the fact is, Obsidian Sanctum isn’t even real WvW. They gave Obsidian Sanctum it’s own map so it wouldn’t take players away from doing actual WvW.
I found out last night the griefers in that jp basically suck elsewhere in the game so they try getting easy kills on other people who just want to get the cache and get out. Poor griefers, just trying to stroke your little ego’s, then still get your @sses handed to you.
It was decent, a step in the right direction. I’d still like harder content. Sure, we wiped a number of times my first time through, but never at any point did I think there was any danger of not finishing. Maybe if a total wipe kicked you from the dungeon or something.
I play PvP, both sPvP and WvW… I go there consensually, and die when I die, and don’t cry about it.
Funny, since you’ve made a thread here that’s nothing but crying about it.
Again, this might just be an Achievement that you won’t have fun getting. So don’t try. Better to do the things you enjoy than to get upset trying things you won’t. If you’re not cut out for PvP, then you’re not cut out for PvP. No shame in that.
Lol, what a stupid comment. Not liking jerks who come to the jp with the sole purpose of killing people trying to finish content has absolutely nothing to do with being cut out for PvP. Dude, get over yourself, you’re not as awesome as you think you are.
And all the people saying “It’s PvP, we don’t want the other servers getting supplies!”. Do you actually think you’re convincing anyone with that half @$$ crap?! Have some intelligence please. FACT – The only people camping there right now are people that like to grief. They don’t care one bit that someone is going to get ram blueprints. If they cared about WvW that much they would be in WvW playing actual WvW.

I admit, it was probably rather crass, rude, and mean to start a fight in a PvP area, yet everyone seemed to enjoy it, not just myself. For quite a while it was just me and a couple guildies trying to hold off easily 8+ people in the arena while most of our own server watched.
Was what I did kind of a kitten move? Probably, yet this is a PvP zone. People attack me on sight everywhere else. Normally I leave people alone when I see an unofficial truce going on out of respect anyway.
Yeah, it’s a PvP zone. Still a kittenr move in my opinion. If you want real PvP, go somewhere where everyone wants it. Pretty weak, picking on people just trying to finish some content and move on. At least you guys got to feel like bad*sses for a little bit.
I beat this dungeon with a full team of zerkers. We did have issues. We wiped multiple times at the lasers then again at the final boss. But none of us knew any of the mechanics and had to figure them all out. Once we knew, things got better and we adapted our strategy. I think if we went a second time in would have gone much better. We beat it none the less, so it can be done with all zerkers.
CoF Rhapsody… I cried, I smiled, I laughed.
You had me at zerker monocle.
Personally I don’t care as much about new armor sets as much, although it would be nice.
I really like the the battle system and would like to use it against more challenging content. I’d even be happy with heroic versions of existing dungeons at this point, maybe with better drops and more tokens (or heroic tokens that let you buy new types of dungeon armor entirely – exotic of course). They can’t really reward equipment with better stats for hard content in this game because the manifesto bible thumpers start to rage.
I’m even fine with the living story content, I have fun with some of it. But I thought the plan was to develop the living story while also improving or adding to existing dungeons. It seems most resources have been moved to the living story however.
There have been hints that there are upcoming changes. The leaked trait changes (while it seems some things will be nerfed, I’m hopeful that this will open more viable build options and improve balance between the class). The hints for upcoming additions to fractals. These give me hope.
This specific LoS is probably an exploit. If you get her in the right spot she can’t hit you and she dies very fast since you don’t have to dodge at all. Plus when you LoS it gets all those range happy pugs to pull out their melee which makes it go faster as well.
Either way, I would never range her. She’s still very easy to melee when played legit.
You guys must’ve been stacking in the wrong spot unless they fixed this today. I stacked the spider last night and it was fine.
Don’t know why your party left though. The spider is easy legit, just takes longer.
Now I know that there are always people like that in these kind of games, and I avoid them like the plague because they tend to lack social graces and manners…
TIL wanting to be efficient and using your right to choose who you want/don’t want to play with = lacking social graces and manners.
I’m not saying there aren’t a lot of morons and sh*tters in the CoF crowd that think they’re god’s gift to mankind, but generalizations are never good.
Well fine when I said “lacking social graces and manners” I meant the type of people who talk crap when the slightest thing goes wrong, or someone is doing 1% less damage because of <insert most nonsensical reason here> and suddenly it’s the end of the world as their farming run is going to take a whole few seconds longer.
You’re confusing a random idiot (the guy who yells at a pug), with speed run groups. Competent people know losing their temper with a pug will get you nowhere. In fact, some of the best speed runners are among the most patient of players. They take the time and thought to perfect their builds and use trial and error to design the perfect strategies.
All the speed runners I know, many from this forum, are very friendly. Efficient dungeon runners are asking for specific classes with specific setups because they want the desired result of very fast dungeon completion. They’re not being mean to people, they just want the the most bang for their buck.
Speed runners aren’t telling anyone how to run their dungeons. We’re cool with everyone running the way they want to. Why does everyone have to tell us how we should be running?
(edited by laharl.8435)
Shadowstep is the only difference I’ve noticed. The circles have always been that way and I don’t get hit by them enough to notice the damage. If you guys are doing full melee and use a mesmer, have the mesmer feedback the first AOE in phase 2 right on Lupi. You can all stand under it safely and dps him. If your dps is good enough you can get through phase 2 in a single feedback.
(edited by laharl.8435)
Is this on US-Servers? I play on Gandara EU and I never get kicked, I never get asked for gear check and I play whatever I want to play (I also bring a Ranger or Necro). I usually just stand in front of the COF entrance, cuz there are always 10-20 ppl standing there and ask for a group and we run through in usually 7-10mins, easy thing.
I just wonder where this happens all the time (reading often here all the time).
It only happens when people join standard speed run groups, but don’t have the standard setup (warrior/mes/full zerk/zerk orbs, scholar runes/standard sigils).
There are still plenty of regular runs advertised on gw2lfg. Sometimes the wrong people wander into the speed run groups and get rear end hurt (lol censor) when they aren’t accepted.

And those runs, admittedly littered with crap warriors, still go faster than non-zerker runs. It’s literally the stats getting those people through those runs, no skill needed. So people not being properly geared can impact the run.
Heck, I’ve had 3 warriors DIE at the Effigy, the mesmer and myself still killed it faster than most non-zerker groups.
